Idiot

How come when it comes to scheming to occupy the post of president so he can steal more money,Mr Atiku seems to always find his voice?

Well President Jonathan has more serious issues to address now than to respond to over ambitious criminals like Atiku

If there is genuinely no zoning, why the noise GEJ must have 8 years?
If you can bear to think about it without getting your knickers into a twist (because GEJ's involved). . .you will realize that as the incumbent president, GEJ is entitled to have 8 years, (if he can win a second term). Simple, He doesn't need any "pro-zoning" arguments.

Anti GEJ elements & co,
The only time zoning was ever adhered to strictly was during 1999 elections where the entire nation practically stepped back and allowed the South-West to go for the presidency. After 1999,every other presidential elections had candidates from across the country.
Zoning was just a temporary platform used to apologize to the 'South' for denying MKO Abiola his mandate.
Mind u,MKO Abiola won the June 12 elections even when there was no talk about zoning. This should tell core northerners that in a free and fair election, even in today's Nigeria, the best candidate will always win regardless of ethnicity...of course the political party has a huge role to play.

@Gbawe and other anti GEJ elements, una never tire?

Off topic: why havent any of u guys condemed ACN for sacking over 700 striking doctors in Lagos? If a PDP govt pulled same stunt, the likes of Gbawe would have used his big English to dissect and condem PDP,accusing them of 'retrogression and retardation'.

LOL...u r all hypocrites,trust me!

Ozegbe: For GOD's mercy and sake this people should leave this election matter till 2014 na, abi are we about to jump from 2012 to 2015. Instead of this people to be thinking of how to make this country move forward, they are busy thinking of who will hold power next. NA WA FOR OUR GOVERNMENT SEF

Sadly, the PDP has ensured that this is not possible. They have dragged the entire Nation into the fight amongst their members. At all levels, they are firmly in control. Yet all they give us is misrule and, currently, terrorism. It is the PDP keeping politics on the front burner with how various factions within the Party are more obsessed with gaining power than forcing their own President to lead well.

Also, in the face of the crippling leadership ineptitude we are witnessing, what will Nigerians gravitate towards discussing if not the politics of 2015 that may bring an end to this current "fresh air" nightmare?

There is at least an aspect of these talks to do with how badly and disappointingly GEJ is leading.

A very simplistic argument pandering to sentiments and not logic. If, ultimately, employers and employees cannot see eye to eye then a parting of ways is inevitable. Get that into your head. If the Doctors say lagos is not giving them what they want, then they have the option of seeking what they want elsewhere while Lagos , as their employer, reserves the right to sack them and bring in Doctors happy to work under terms others have rejected as "unnaceptable". Simple.

Whatever the merits of both sides, there will be a point, considering the sector involved, when an employer will simply put an end to the impasse by sacking employees, as is legally allowed, when the relationship has broken down irrevocably.

I wish GEJ would just abandon any ambition to run,and let the so-called 'PROGRESSIVES' and the 'OWNERS OF NIGERIA' rule, and let us see what they have to offer, even though from precedents, they have being an epic fail.
But i think they would have to resolve not only boko-haram,but also the Niger-delta in all its fury.
What a great time,it would be.
The magnitude of the failure of that govt would be unprecedented that it would be an insult to retarded people,if they are called 'retardeens'.
It would be a very interesting time.

Which probe are you referring to?

When was Atiku given a clean bill of health, please let's not even go there.True Atiku has not been convicted and jailed(as he ought to have been)but that's only because our law enforcement agents and judicial officers show so much respect for corrupt big men.Consequently,Atiku(just like all other corrupt thieving politicians that have held one political office or the other in the past, but are not in jail),is free to contest for councillorship or indeed the presidency, but he should stop seeking to score cheap poltical points by taking pot shots at those who's time it is to rule.
BTW,I dare him to do so on the platform of another political party and not teh PDP that he has repeatedly worked against in time past, even if he lost on ALL those times.
Atiku WILL NOT BE PRESIDENT in 2015,the PDP WILL NOT field him.SO tell me what options he has.Can he float his own political party?s if he floats one, only he,members of his family and his partners in crime will join him in that misadventure, not even all you political noisemakers that do not even vote, not to talk of mobilising others to do so,will join him. Then what will be his options? Will ACN or CPC field him

Gbawe:

God forbid an Atiku Presidency, in an age Nigeria should be looking at the likes Fashola and Duke, but Atiku would be a lousy Politician if he does not take political advantage of certain issues events have 'favourably' thrown up.

Do you remember that the constant argument of team GEJ was that Jonathan never signed up for zoning and that Nigeria should be moving towards a "merit based system" where anyone should run for the Presidency without "discrimination"? Atiku, IBB et al were made to look the retrogressive bad guys by other insincere politicians cleverly taking advantage of issues and mouthing what they are not committed to.

Remember that Atiku and co were very committed to zoning to the extent they insisted GEJ must not participate? Remember also that, in showing they were committed to zoning, both Atiku and IBB stated categorically that they would hand over to an Igbo deputy in 2015? Remember the support IBB and Atiku were enjoying from the likes of Ken Nnamani and Soludo?

What will now have caused this U-turn if not that Atiku and other Northern hawks want to flip the script on those who propagated certain armuments yesterday and now want to depart from that today?

Atiku is calling them out here in a nuanced manner. I.e stick to your "President on merit" argument of the past and let us see how you fare based on that alone. Let everyone, including GEJ, compete and fight. No favours, no advantages for anyone and no discrination against anyone. In other words, let democracy be a game of number, popularity and merit as team GEJ previously argued. [b]No automatic claim to the Presidency for any region of Nigeria.b]

The recent strike by Lagos State doctors and how Fashola is dealing with it have taught me that most supporters of ACN in Nairaland are malicious and mischievious in analysing political events in Nigeria in that if it was the GEJ administration that was involved in Lagos toll gate saga and now Lagos State Doctors industrial action and GEJ deals with them the same way Fashola is confronting them which is not all that bad anyway, he will be utterly condemned. Indeed my brother. Why on earth will he claim I will automatically support the sack of Doctors because it is sanctioned by an ACN Governor?

Publisher is a clear example of those who argue emotionally and sentimentally. With regards to the doctors issues, we have to look at things dispassionately. Let us use our head here. If the demands of the Doctors are as a result of the breach in the terms of their employment contract then Lagos is toast legally. If this is a new demand Lagos is not accepting, then a parting of ways should not not be deemed an "unacceptable" solution by anyone who has ever been in a work relationship involving an employer and their employees - especially considering this is a critical life-or-death sector. Employees can always demand what they deem to be better conditions but employers reserve the right to refuse and tell them to look for said better conditions elsewhere. Simple. You can always hold your employers to ransom but must always bear in mind that they call your bluff and tell you to look elsewhere for what you want.

Fashola is a lawyer and I doubt he will flagrantly act outside the law. This action may be unpopular but we should all shun sentiments to accept that lagos reserves the right to sack the Doctors. Let them go to Court and make a case for unfair dismissal. Simple.

Oh boy, listen to urself...so it's like that now?
If the PDP federal govt(employer) had told the world that it was unable to pay 18k minimum wage and workers went on strike. You would have supported FG if they sacked striking workers and recruited fresh hands comfortable with earning less than 18k minimum wage, right?
Guy,u r indeed a world class hypocrite. The demands of the sacked doctors could have easily been met with half of the funds used to celebrate Tinubu's 60th birthday bash.

Look, drag this back and forth as much as you want. What you need to do is spare the forum your emotional take on issues. If there is a contractual breach, let the Doctors go to Court and win. If not let them accept they have been sacked by a Government that has told them to look for what they want elsewhere. Very, very simple.

I have been an employee and an employer in my life. I take no sides here but I recognise the right of the employers, especially in a critical sector, to replace employees who will not work because their demands are not being met. No need to automatically side with the 'underdog' because it is romantic to do so.

As one example, see the article below. For many others examples, google "striking workers sacked" to see that empoyees , worldwide, cannot hold employers to ransom forever or insist successfully that it is their way or no way.

900 striking oil refinery workers sacked

Almost 900 workers at the Lindsey oil refinery were sacked after unofficial strikes at the terminal, the plant's owner Total confirmed.

Last night's dismissals followed an escalation of wildcat strikes over jobs yesterday when workers from several power stations and oil plants across the UK took unofficial industrial action.
Lindsey oil refinery protesters earlier this year Lindsey oil refinery protesters earlier this year

The dispute flared a week ago at the Lindsey oil refinery in Lincolnshire when a contractor laid off 51 workers while another employer on the site was hiring staff.

Around 1,200 contract workers at the terminal, which is owned by Total, have been taking unofficial action all week as efforts were made to convene talks.

In a statement, Total said striking workers were taking part in an "unofficial, illegal walk-out" that was "repudiated" by both Unite and the GMB unions.

But Unite said it was "extremely concerned" about Total's actions and was working frantically to facilitate immediate talks with the company's local management.

A spokesman for the union said: "We are extremely concerned about the ramifications of the employer's actions.

"We are urging all parties to get back around the negotiating table to resolve this situation."

Total last night confirmed around 900 workers on a construction project at the refinery had been sacked.

The oil and gas giant said it was "frustrated and disappointed" by the failure of staff to return to work for negotiations.

The company was accused of breaking a local agreement not to cut any jobs, but a spokesman denied there was any such deal in place.

Yesterday, workers at several other sites across the country joined the industrial action, affecting power stations at Drax and Eggborough in Yorkshire, Ratcliffe and West Burton in Nottinghamshire, Fiddlers Ferry in Cheshire and Aberthaw in South Wales.

Contractors at a BP refinery near Hull also joined the strike action.

Energy company E.ON said up to 150 contract workers at the Ratcliffe-on-Soar power station walked out in support of the Lindsey oil refinery strike, but homes would not be affected by the strike.

Earlier this year, the Lindsey oil refinery was hit by unofficial action in a row over the recruitment of non-UK workers.

The Total statement read: "Total can confirm, with regret, that our contractors have now started the process of ending the current employment contracts for their workforce on the HDS-3 construction project.

"The contractor workforce has been engaged in an unofficial, illegal walk-out since last Thursday, June 11. This action has been repudiated by both the Unite and GMB unions.

"The main contract company, Jacobs, and Total have repeatedly sought to encourage the workforce to return to work so that proper negotiations can take place.

"This is in line with the union and industry agreed process that negotiations over illegal strikes cannot commence until the workforce has returned to work.

"It is frustrating and disappointing that these attempts have failed."

The statement also said contractors who wanted to return to work on the construction project had until June 22 to reapply for positions.

The project will remain closed until next week

Come on Jmaine. You cannot tell us dismissively "let 2015" arrive when Atiku talks but was not equally vocal when Dokubo-Asari, Edwin Clarke et al were insisting GEJ "must" complete 8 years and "GEJ must run" in 2015. You were also around when many, many shouted "Igbo Presidency in 2015 non-negotiable". Why now ungraciously call Atiku's utterance a slur when you did not tag the 2015 utterances of others as such? Did you condemn Asari-Dokubo similarly? Did you admonish other Southern voices against talking about 2015 prematurely ?
