Manchester City may have wrestled the title from their grasp, but Manchester United have been awarded two prestigious honours for their dominance of the Premier League.

Sir Alex Ferguson was named the best manager in the Premier League's 20-year history and Ryan Giggs won the best player award at a ceremony in central London.

Ferguson, the victim of a taunt by the City striker Carlos Tevez during the Blues' title-winning parade in Manchester on Monday, was not in London on Tuesday. The chief executive David Gill picked up the award on his behalf.

Giggs did receive his award, which was given to him after he beat off competition from the likes of Thierry Henry, Paul Scholes and Dennis Bergkamp to clinch the vote from a panel of experts.

The Welshman has made 909 appearances for United and is the most decorated player in the English game while Ferguson has won 12 Premier League titles since he took over the Lancashire club in 1986.

The former Manchester United team-mate Gary Neville said of Giggs: "Ryan Giggs will go down as the most successful British footballer of all time and I cannot see anyone ever overtaking him.

"He has surpassed all records in terms of domestic titles and he has incredible desire, quality and spirit. He's just fantastic to watch every single week."

Ferguson pipped Arsène Wenger, José Mourinho, Harry Redknapp and David Moyes to the manager's award.

Fergie is one of the greatest but 12 titles in 20 years? that's 60% league success.
Compare Pep Guardiola's Records
Guardiola became coach of FC Barcelona B. On 8 May 2008, Barcelona President Joan Laporta announced that Guardiola would succeed Frank Rijkaard as the first team manager. He signed his contract on 5 June 2008. In his first season as manager, Barcelona won the treble of La Liga, the Copa del Rey, and the Champions League. In doing so, Guardiola became the youngest UEFA Champions League-winning manager ever. The following season, Guardiola and Barcelona won the Supercopa de España, the UEFA Super Cup, and the FIFA Club World Cup, bringing the manager's tally to the maximum of six trophies in six competitions in one year, thus completing the first ever sextuple.
On 8 September 2011, Guardiola was awarded the Catalan parliament's Gold Medal, the highest honour. On 9 January 2012, Guardiola received the FIFA World Coach of the Year for Men’s Football award, with 42% of the votes, ahead of Manchester United’s Alex Ferguson, who received 16%, and José Mourinho, coach of Real Madrid, who had 12%.
On 27 April 2012, Guardiola announced he would quit as Barcelona manager on 30 June, after achieving 13 titles in four years at charge of the club.

or The Special One (7league trophy in 8 years in 4 clubs)

In eight seasons of club management, including an eight month sabbatical in 2007–08, Mourinho has led his club to win its domestic league seven times, the UEFA Champions League twice and the UEFA Cup once. Since 2002, Mourinho has not gone a full calendar year without winning at least one trophy.

The run was broken by Sporting de Gijón on 2 April 2011, when they defeated Real Madrid 1–0 at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium in La Liga. If not Giggs, then who? Obviously you started watching ball just recently. Go back and watch matches like Man Utd vs Juventus (2000/2001) Champions League when Man Utd beat them 3-0 in Italy. Watch the second goal of that match where Giggs got the ball in hi own half, and mesmerized 5 players before slotting the ball past Gigi Buffon who could not even dive for the ball; just watched it go in.

Or watch the winning goal during the 1998/98 FA Cup semi final between Man Utd and Arsenal. I have watched Giggs since 1992 and he is simply the best. Thierry Henry would come in second. Henry did not play so long in the Premiership.

The only player that was capable of taking it from Giggs is Cristiano Ronaldo, the first EPL player to win world best.

EPL best goal was awarded to Wayne Rooney's overhead bicycle kick against city last season. This was awarded about three weeks ago.

They both deserve it. Fergie for his relentlessness, doggedness and bounbackability- he shut dalgish up, he shut wenger up (well wenger shut himself up) he got mourinho sacked, he got scolari sacked, Ancelotti does the double and he also sees him get sacked. he has lived through every manager in the premier league and has come out tops. Mancini peeped him this year but he did it with goals difference and a budget capable of solving nigeria's subsidy issue. he is an easy pick as the greatest manager in world football and IMO the greatest manager ever in sport history! He was credited for endearing himself to the hearts of ManU fatefuls by stating that he wasnt hired to win trophies. Instead he was hired to over take liverpool and make ManU the best team in England. 25 years gone by and he has near done it.

Giggsy on the otherhand for his tenacity and longevity peeps thierry henry and shearer IMO. but Henry shouldnt be too far off-he held the premier league in a choke hold for 6 of his seven seasons there winning the PFA player 2 times (back to back) and the writers award 4times (a record). He had the golden shoe 4 times finishing second 2 of the other three times. As far as I am concerned he was the world footballer of the year in 03 (when it was given to zizou the last time) Giggs didnt neccessarily light up the premier league with his goals like CR7 did but he was with his manager through it all and at the end of the day players would eventually be judged by the trophies they amassed. For this alone Giggsy would end up being the greatest player ever. Except (and i pray) that Wilshere and chamberlin start winning trophies and then by 2026 they would've won 14 league titles, 10 FA cups, 4 UEFACL titles etc etc... I hope and pray because i am a gooner through and through! grin

Apology to Giggs, but I dont think he deserved it. Why not Alan Shearer the highest goal Scorer in the EPL and the one who won the best player of EPL in 10 years?. When has staying long in Manchester United the criteria for the best Player in 20 years? Goals, Goals and plenty of it, that is what Shearer brought into the game, what has Giggs brought? He isnt even the Captain for those long years that would have guide us to say he led Man Utd through those years. Methinks the likes of Andy Cole, Thierry Henry, Robbie Fowler etc who ignite the EPL with goals even comes before Giggs.
As if that is not enough, those voters are so biased that they prefer Rooney's goal against Manchester City to that of Dennis Bergkamp against Newcastle United.

A WELL DESERVED HONOUR. THOUGH THAT DOES NOT TAKE AWAY THE FACT THAT CITY IS THE EPL CHAMPIONS FOR THE 2011/2012 SEASON.
