The Day of the African Child is celebrated on 16 June every year by the African Union, in line with this JCI Nigeria University of Jos shall be running a day workshop, leadership Training and Poetry and Art exhibition for the creative Nigerian children with the theme “Hope for the Future”
Aims and Objectives
• The WORDS and PICTURES contest is channeled towards ensuring that every young potentials in Nigeria is discovered and build to becoming the world productive leader, This in turn will help the state develop a global partnership for development according to no 8 of MDGs goal and reduce poverty among the potential young future leaders living below poverty in the state.
• This project is aimed at helping young people think intellectually and get engaged in economy development process of the country though their creativity and productivity activities.
• Having realized that one who intends to lead cannot lead beyond what he knows which includes; books read, experiences had, places visited and relationship one keeps, it is therefore a necessity to create an opportunity for these ones to catch a glimpse of their desired future.
• Through WORDS and PICTURES, the history of a whole generation is expressed. So as a means of preserving our history, we see WORDS and PICTURES contest as a key answer.

Target Participants

Plateau state school students irrespective of class or department.

Schedule
Submission of Entry: 14th- 31st may 2012
Assessment period: 1st- 8th June 2012
Screening/ Audition: 9th June 2012
Grand Finale: 16th June 2012

Terms and Conditions
THEME: "MY STORY OF INSPIRATION"

Many people experience inner change that motivates them to create a better world.
Please share your story of inspiration that has affected your life and changed you to make a change in the world.

GUIDELINES: 1. Essays may be submitted by anyone up to 18 years old (as of May 31, 2012) in one of the following age categories:
a) Children (ages up to 12) b) Youth (ages 13 - 18)

2. Essay must be 250 words or less in English, original Art work must be submitted in hard copies and must not be larger than 24inches by 12 inches and no student is allowed to enter for more than one category

3. Essays must have a cover page indicating (1) category (Children or Youth) (2) essay title (3) your name (4) address (5) phone number (6) e-mail (7) nationality
(cool age as of June 16, 2012 (9) gender (10) school name (if applicable) (11) word count.
Teachers and youth directors may submit a collection of essays from their class or group. Please enclose a list of participants' names and the name and contact information of the submitting teacher or director.
* Entries missing any of the above information will not be considered.
All entries must be sent to artexnigeria@gmail.com

4. Entries may be submitted by postal mail

5. Essays or Artwork must be original and unpublished.

6. Essays must be written by one person. Co-authored essays are not accepted. Artwork must be painted by the student only.

7. Copyright of the essays entered will be assigned to the organizers.
DEADLINE: Entries must be received by June 8, 2012.
AWARD: The following awards will be given in the Children’s category and Youth category respectively:
1st Prize:
Children (ages up to 12)
1st Prize - Certificate and School Bag, Poster Colour or Pencil
2nd Prize – Certificate and Prize of Pencils and art books
3rd Prize- Certificate and Art Books
Youth (ages 13 - 18)
1st Prize – Certificate and Oil Colour Set easel and brushes
2nd Prize- Oil Colour set brushes
3rd Prize- Sketch Pad and pencils
Consolations Prizes

* 1st prize winners will be invited to the award ceremony in state capital of the state of plateau scheduled for June 16th 2012. (Travel expenses will be covered by the organizers.)

** All selected winners will be announced in June 11th for exhibition and price/award giving ceremony at a chosen venue.

NOTE: Only mails received before 4pm on the 31st will be considered.
