Kingsleypower@:
AhA Uniabj!!!...I applied 4 Uniabj in the year 2011, i scored 259 and my O'level result is okay...I was so confident that i will be admitted into the school but guess what when the list(s) came out, most of those admitted were those that scored 200-220,180-190 suprisingly students that scored 170 were also admitted and they were admitted into PROFESSIONAL COURSES like LAW,MEDICINE etc..while those that truly deserved the admission were left out...Once again i scored 259. Whats my point?? My point is, if you Want a good school that is MODERATELY fair apply to schools with proven credibility I'e Unical,Uyo,Jos,Port,Uniben,OAU,Ilorin etc there are many of them....But DO NOT apply To UNIABJ.. UNIABJ will only waste your time...#i stand to be corrected#.
You see bro, I quite agree with you. but there is something you should get straight! there is only one list which UNIABUJA cannot manipulate, and that is the merit list (also known as first list) this is the list which you can check on jamb's website even before it is pasted in school. Now, the fact that you scored 259 does not mean that at least 2 or 3 people from your state did not get above that score (remember state quota also has a part to play).
Now, this is where the problem lies: if u got a very high score but failed to make the merit list, only connection can save you...I know I shouldn't be saying this, but it's true. that's why I envy most other schools that sells supplementary forms to give people with high scores a second chance. but then, every school has it's own way of admitting new students. it is left for the student to make enquiries before making it his/her choice.

Richiez:
you need academic staffs to help you out with your course registration. unfortunately, they are the ones on strike. so I guess registration will have to wait until after ASUU strike.
mean while other administrative stuffs such as; submission of diploma forms, pgd forms, NYSC mobilization is still going on...

to be frank, the only set of people who are consistently in school are the Administrative staffs, SSANU, NASU, final year students, diploma students.....
For fresh students, you'll have to wait till after the ASUU strike.
i pray dat uniabuja should merge us when is strike is over,i cant stay for another 7month again

ASUU Strike: Nigeria lecturers vow to
continue strike as FG stops salaries
The government’s new directive starts from
September.
The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, is
“unshaken” by the federal government’s recent ‘No
Work No Pay’ policy on the striking lecturers,
PREMIUM TIMES has learnt.
The federal government’s decision to stop paying
the lecturers’ salaries was confirmed by the
university lecturers after their Thursday meeting.
Rising from ASUU’s zonal conference in Abuja on
Thursday, the union responded to the ‘No Work No
Pay’ strategy by stating that it had resorted to other
welfare strategies to cope with the effects of the
policy.
“The Federal Government has through the National
Universities Commission, directed universities to
stop the payment of our salaries effective
September this year and since then our salaries
have not been paid,” Clement Chup, ASUU Zonal
Chairman in Abuja, said.
“Part of (our) welfare strategy, involve distributing
food items, giving out soft loans and cash advances
to members,” he added.
The union is currently on an over three-month-old
industrial action over the failure of the government
to implement the 2009 agreement it reached with
the lecturers.
Festus Iyayi, a former ASUU President, said that the
union remains resolute in the face of the
government’s latest strategy.
“I can confirm that the federal government has
stopped payment of the salaries of academic staff,”
Prof. Iyayi, who led ASUU in 1986, told PREMIUM
TIMES.
“This ‘get them to capitulate by starving them’
policy has been employed by government in the
past. It did not work. Our members are ready to
make whatever sacrifices are needed to make
government honour agreements,” he added.
The federal government’s latest move may have
pulled the plug on negotiations between it and the
striking lecturers.
The government toed a similar path during the 2009
ASUU strike but the lecturers stuck to their guns,
with then ASUU President, Ukachukwu Awuzie,
stating that “they would not allow the issue of
salaries to dampen the desire of its members to
seek fundamental changes in the Nigeria’s
educational system.

Students give Fed Govt
one month to end ASUU
strike
Posted by: Adesoji Adeniyi in News
The Coalition of Students’ Activists (COSA)
has given the Federal Government a
month’s ultimatum to meet the demands
of the Academic Staff Union of
Universities (ASUU) as laid out in its 2009
agreement with the union.
The students urged labour unions and civil
society groups to join the university
teachers’ strike to ensure proper funding
of the Education sector.
Addressing reporters at the Obafemi
Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun
State, the students said they would call
out their colleagues for a massive protest
over the protracted strike.
Their spokesperson, Juwon Sanyaolu,
warned that if the Federal Government
failed to meet ASUU’s demands before the
ultimatum expired, the nation would
witness serious students’ street protest.
Sanyaolu said: “We are unequivocally
giving the Federal Government a month to
meet all the demands it signed with the
union, or to witness unforgettable massive
street protest across the states,” he said.
He said it was worrisome that five other
academic unions, including College of
Education Academic Staff Union
(COEASU); Academic Staff Union of
Polytechnic (ASUP); Non Academic Staff
Union (NASU); Senior Staff Association of
Nigerian Universities (SSANU); National
Association of Academic Technicians
(NAAT) and Nigeria Union of Teachers
(NUT) besides ASUU have threatened to
go on strike over one demand or the other.
He said the development is an indication
that the education sector is on the verge
of collapsing.
He said: “Calling on the ASUU to suspend
the current action without its demands
being met could be disastrous. And as far
as the early 90’s, government sponsored
free education with money generated from
cocoa and oil palm but still, there were
demands for more and adequate funding.
Nevertheless, things were more bearable
then but have been growing worse even
though the government seem to generate
more revenue from oil.”

ASUU Strike Update: “Answer ASUU Or
We’ll Shut Down Nigeria” – Labour
Congress Threatens FG
Labour activist and General Secretary,
National Union of Electricity Employees,
NUEE, Joe Ajaero has given the Federal
Government one week to resolve its
differences with the Academic Staff Union of
Universities (ASUU) or cripple the country with
the mother-of-all-strikes.
Ajaero who was speaking during the opening
of a training workshop organized for labour
leaders in Enugu, threatened to ally with other
unions across the country to join ASUU on a
solidarity stike if the impasse persists.
He said: “If ASUU issue is not addressed, we
will shut this country alongside other unions.
We will ally with other unions and make sure
that nothing works in this country.”
Ajaero said government was being insensitive
to the plight of Nigerian students because the
children of the rich are studying outside the
country.
“This is not a strike based on demand, it’s
based on agreement. As government, you
must honour your agreement. Here, there’s no
social security, the price of food is high, the
same goes for electricity tariff. We are going
to join our children to stay at home and let
them run the system,” he threatened.
The labour leader said that the time has come
to bar public office holders form sending their
children to schools abroad or travel overseas
for free treatment, noting that not until then,
will government take the various institutions
serious and put things the way they should be.
Ajaero however, reassured electricity workers
that the union would ensure that everybody
receive their entitlements before the final
handover to private investors and urged them
to make good and judicious use of the money
and not go on spending spree.
“They are playing politics with us but all we
have told them is to give us our entitlements
and we will handover tomorrow. They said
before the end of this week; if we don’t see
evidence of payment, we won’t handover.”
According to him, the workshop is to prepare
them for better management of the funds
through skill acquisitions and entrepreneurial
skills and urged them to take the workshop
serious.

ASUU STRIKE Latest: FG, ASUU Meet
Again Presidential Villa To End Strike
Vice President Namadi Sambo led the Federal
Government team in a renewed negotiation with
ASUU to resolve the lingering strike that has
crippled the universities.
The meeting held at Aguda house, Presidential Villa
on Friday.
In attendance on the part of the Federal
Government were the Supervising Minister of
Education, Barr. Nyesom Wike, Executive Secretary
of National Universities Commission, NUC, Prof.
Julius Okojie and technical staff of the Federal
Ministry of Education.
Scan-News gathered that ASUU President, Dr Nasir
Isa Fagge and his executives were accompanied to
the meeting by Committee of Vice Chancellors
leadership.
It was learnt that an earlier meeting between Barr.
Wike and ASUU leadership teased out areas of
possible concession of both sides.
Scan News gathered the Federal Government may
concede to ASUU the right to participate as a major
stakeholder in the execution of NEEDS
Implementation Projects in the universities.
ASUU had complained that the Suswam Committee
excluded them from the implementation of projects
in the universities.
On the part of ASUU, the meeting agreed that they
should suspend their strike, while the process of
implementation continues.
A Vice Chancellor of a northern university attending
the meeting said that key issues will be ratified and
the strike may be resolved in less than two weeks.
According to him, the vigour and forthrightness
introduced by the Supervising Minister of Education,
Barr. Wike who opened diplomatic channels with
ASUU leadership.
“Our belief is that with the ground work already
done, this strike should not last more than two
weeks”, he said.
If they strike a compromise, the Federal
Government will release ASUU’s september Salary
today and the lecturers will get their alert next
week, it was gathered.
The leaders after the two hours meeting that ended
about 2pm on Friday did not issue a statement.
Scan News gathered that they will reconvene on
Monday before Sallah.

ASUU strike: Don’t force
youth to react – Bishop
warns FG
The Catholic Bishop of Nsukka Diocese, Rt.
Rev. Godfrey Onah, at the weekend,
warned politicians to retrace their steps, as it
would not be possible to quench the anger of
Nigerian youth who may soon run out of
patience over the poor treatment they are
getting from government and their leaders at
various levels.
The clergyman stated at the funeral mass
organized for Lolo Josephine Oyima Abba,
mother of the Enugu State Chairman of the
Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Engr. Vita
Abba at Ede-Oballa, in Nsukka Council Area
of Enugu State.
He warned that such neglect could force the
youth to revolt against their leaders
The Bishop cautioned that it would be difficult
to stop the youth if they were further pushed
into frustration.
He threw posers to both the government and
the Academic Staff Union of Universities,
ASUU, on the reasons behind the over three-
month-old industrial action that has
paralyzed academic activities.
He said, “I know that I
have enough persons here
and also hopefully, enough instruments to
carry this message to the ears of the highest
echelons of power in this country.
”The common people, the students and their
parents, whom I represent, do not believe the
explanations the politicians and the
academics are giving for the strike; we don’t
believe them and we are appealing to them
in God’s name to remember we will all end
this way (pointing to the dead); let them end
this strike immediately.
”I want to ask a question; it is a question not
a statement. I am asking the leadership of
the country; is it really true that you don’t
have enough money to improve upon the
quality of education in this country or is it
that you are stocking up money in
preparation for 2015 in order to buy your way
to power or to secure your future indefinitely
through corruption?”

ASUU Strike: Government Blinks, Agrees To Spend
N200b Each For Four Years To Bring Nigerian
Universities Up To World Standard

VP Namadi Sambo and ASUU Representatives led
by Dr. Fagge
By SaharaReporters, New York
Towards ending the ongoing ASUU strike, the
Federal Government has committed to spending
N200 billion in the 2014 budget on the
universities as well as on each of the next three-
four years until the universities are brought to
world-class standard. This is in addition to the
N100 billion dedicated and already made
available for 2013.
The government has also increased to N40
billion as a first installment, funds for the
payment of earned allowances to the striking
lecturers, an improvement from the N30 billion
previously released.
This information is contained in an internal
Federal University of Otuoke statement by
Professor Bolaji Aluko, its Vice-Chancellor, seen
on Wednesday night by SaharaReporters.
On the earned allowances, he explained,
“Government will top it up with further releases
once universities are through with the
disbursement of this new figure of N40 million,
so Vice-Chancellors are urged to expedite this
disbursement within the shortest possible time
using guiding templates that have been sent by
the CVC,” the circular said.
Professor Aluko said the development followed
meetings on September 19 and Oct 11 of
representatives of the Association of Vice-
Chancellors of Nigerian Universities, led by CVC
Chairman, Prof. Hamisu of ATBU and ASUU
Representatives led by its President, Dr. N.
Fagge with the Vice-President of the Federal
Republic of Nigeria, Arc. Namadi. Sambo,
Minister of Education Barr. N. Wike and others.
Of great interest to stakeholders, Vice-President
Sambo, appealing to ASUU to call off the strike,
apologized for the "take-it-or-leave-it"
comments credited to the Minister of Finance,
Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala at the onset of the
strike. The Minister did not seem to have been
involved in either meeting, perhaps as the
government’s way of soothing the feelings of
the university teachers.
Other points of agreement at the meetings
include the following:
Project Prioritization: Universities will now be
allowed to determine their priorities and not be
“rail-roaded” into implementing a pre-
determined set of projects with respect to the
NEEDS assessment. Decisions are not to be
centralized.
TETFund Intervention: Government assured
that the operations of the TETFund will not be
impaired, and that the regular TETFund
intervention disbursement to Universities will
continue, unaffected. So the NEEDS
assessment capital outlays are in addition to
regular TETFund intervention.
Project Monitoring: A new Implementation
Monitoring Committee (IMC) for the NEEDS
Assessment intervention for universities has
been set up to take over from the Suswan
Committee. The new one is under the Federal
Ministry of Education and chaired by the
Honorable Minister of Education. In addition, to
build confidence and ensure faithful
implementation and prevent any relapse as
before, the Vice President will meet quarterly
with the IMC to monitor progress.
Blueprint: ASUU was mandated to submit a
blue print for revitalizing the Universities to
the Vice President.
Prof. Aluko further stated that a signed
document will soon be issued to itemize the full
issues on which the consensus he had outlined
here, as brokered by AVCNU, was reached.

ASUU Rejects N600
Billion Offe....
ASUU rejects N600 BILLION
offer
Varsity teachers remained
adamant last night, saying
their strike would go on,
despite the government’s shifting of its position. The
strike has been on for four
months.
More cash has been
pledged for projects on
the campuses. Besides, the earned allowances due to
the teachers have been
increased from the initial
N30 billion offer, which the
Academic Staff Union of
Universities (ASUU) rejected. The teachers are
insisting on the 2009
agreement, which they say
President Goodluck
Jonathan was part of.
Besides, they say, they do not trust the government.
According to a circular by
the Vice Chancellor of the
Federal University, Otuoke,
Bayelsa State, Prof. Bolaji
Aluko, to the staff of the school, quoted yesterday
by the news website,
Sahara Reporters, the
government has pledged
to spend N200 billion on
the universities in the 2014 budget and the same
amount annually for the
next three to four years.
This is in addition to the
N100 billion already made
available this year, but which ASUU has rejected.
The government has also
increased to N40 billion, as
a first installment, funds
for the payment of earned
allowances to the striking lecturers – an
improvement from the
N30 billion previously
released.
On the earned allowances,
Aluko said: “Government will top it up with further
releases once universities
are through with the
disbursement of this new
figure of N40 million. So,
Vice-Chancellors are urged to expedite this
disbursement within the
shortest possible time
using guiding templates
that have been sent by the
CVC,” the circular said. Aluko said the latest
development followed
meetings on September 19
and Oct 11 of
representatives of the
Association of Vice- Chancellors of Nigerian
Universities, led by its
Chairman, Prof. Hamisu of
Abubakar Tafawa Balewa
University (ATBU) and
ASUU representatives led by its President, Dr.Nasir
Fagge, with Vice-President
Namadi Sambo and Minister
of Education Nyesome
Wike.
A source in the Ministry of Education last night also
confirmed that the
meeting took place.
“But the government
decided to leave the
announcement of the decision to the ASUU
chiefs,” the source said.
It was gathered that
Sambo urged ASUU to call
off the strike, as he
apologised for the “take- it-or-leave-it” comments
credited to Minister of
Finance Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-
Iweala at the beginning of
the strike. The Minister did
not seem to have been involved in either meeting,
perhaps as the
government’s way of
soothing the feelings of
the university teachers.
Other points of agreement at the meetings include:
•Project Prioritisation:
Universities will now be
allowed to determine their
priorities and not be “rail-
roaded” into implementing a pre-determined set of
projects with respect to
the NEEDS assessment.
Decisions are not to be
centralized;
•TETFund Intervention: The government assured
the teachers that the
operations of the TETFund
will not be impaired, and
that the regular TETFund
intervention disbursement to universities will
continue, unaffected. So
the NEEDS assessment
capital outlays are in
addition to regular
TETFund intervention; •Project Monitoring: A
new Implementation
Monitoring Committee
(IMC) for the NEEDS
Assessment intervention
for universities has been set up to take over from
the Suswam Committee.
The new one is under the
Federal Ministry of
Education and chaired by
the Minister of Education. In addition, to build
confidence and ensure
faithful implementation
and prevent any relapse as
before, the Vice President
will meet quarterly with the implementors to
monitor progress.
.Blueprint: ASUU was
mandated to submit a
blueprint for revitalising
the universities to the Vice President.
Prof. Aluko stated that a
signed document will soon
be issued to itemise the full
issues on which the
consensus was reached. But ASUU last night was
unimpressed with the new
offer. National Treasurer
Dr. Ademola Aremu said
the offer failed to meet the
teachers’ expectations. He said the offer falls short
of the agreement signed
with ASUU by the
government.
Aremu insisted that ASUU
would not end the strike until the 2009 agreement
is fully implemented by
injecting N500 billion into
the universities yearly to
shore up the system’s
quality. Aremu, who spoke to our
correspondent on the
telephone, said any offer
below what is contained in
the signed agreement,
would amount to unilateral repudiation of
an agreement the
government willingly
signed in 2009.
According to the unionist,
ASUU is not making any new demand, but a mere
implementation of an
agreement. He pointed out
that the Memorandum of
Understanding (MOU)
signed by both parties in 2009 stated that the
government would
commit N1.5 trillion to the
system in three years.
He said: “ Even if the
Federal Government made that promise, it would be a
unilateral repudiation of
the 2009 agreement. By
now, the government
should have injected N500
billion. That amounts to N100 billion in 2012 and
N400 billion in the current
year.
“As a matter of fact, any
new commitment from the
Federal Government is belated. Implementation of
the agreement ought to
have started before this
year. I don’t think there is
any way we can trust this
government, going by its past behaviour on this
issue.
“The mandate from our
principal as at the last time
we met was that we won’t
end the strike until the agreement is fully
implemented.
“We do not need promises
again. What we need now
is actual implementation.
What if they do not release the funds again after
making the promise?
“It was this same Mr
President that mid-wifed
the agreement in 2009
when he was the Vice President. The MoU was in
his custody. He studied the
agreement well before
asking then President
Umaru Yar’Adua to sign it.
We can’t trust this government.

ASUU to meet over strike, says not

THE National Strike Coordinating Committee, NSCC,
comprising of principal officers and Zonal
Coordinators of Academic Staff Union of
Universities, ASUU will be meeting Saturday to take
stock of the ongoing strike embarked by the union
that is entering the fourth months.
Meantime, ASUU said that it was not under any
pressure to call-off the strike despite what it called
sponsored protests and rallies against the union,
stressing that before the union decided to embark
on the strike, it holistically took objective
assessment of the situation.
One of the branch Chairmen of ASUU and member
of NSCC who spoke exclusively to Saturday
Vanguard on the condition of anonymity said that
the meeting will take place in Ondo state and that
there would be a situation report including the
meeting representatives of ASUU had with the
Federal government last week’s Friday.
He said,”We are meeting tomorrow, National Strike
Coordinating Committee. Tomorrow is arrival. Our
Principal officers and Zonal Coordinators met with
government last week Friday, one week today, so
we want to discus the outcome of the meeting, after
that we will now meet.”
Commenting on the plethora of protests by different
groups over the strike which could be mounting
pressure on the union to call off the strike, he said
that “There is no pressure on us. We look at things
objectively and remember that even me as I am
talking we cannot suspend the strike.
“We have to get inputs from the branches that is
why our strike is always very tight, because before
we declared the strike, we have collected inputs
from all branch officers in the universities in
Nigeria, we collated it, discussed it extensively for
two days before we declared the strike.
“And if there is any offer made by government, we
have to look at it, that is the principal officers ten of
them in number, the zonal coordinators who take
over functions of NEC during the strike, so, they will
look at what government has offered, brief us the
branch chair persons then it is at this point we will
now know whether to convene an emergency NEC
to look at it holistically.
“By the time they are briefing us, they will also ask
us to brief our committee members and take the
issue to the congress, it is not a one man show, all
these ones they are talking about politics it is not
true, the process right from the least of all the
lecturers to the highest that is the professor from
each branch, we collate all their responses, it is only
when they advice us to suspend that we suspend, it
is not just one man show.”
He explained that during strike situation, the
National Strike Coordinating Committee comprising
of principal officers and zonal coordinators always
take over the functions of NEC, adding, “every
single week, the zonal coordinators will take the
information to the various branches who will now
take the information to congress, collating
information from congress, the branch chairman will
take it back to the zonal coordinator, the zonal
coordinator takes it back to NSCC, the reason is that
NEC has the larger component, we are many.”
He said that the reason behind allowing the smaller
number of officers to meet during strike situation
was to cut cost.
“Why NEC cannot meet during the strike is because
of cost, we are more in number. In NEC we have
over 100 people, but NSCC will be between 10 and
20, so it is manageable, we have a channel of
communication.”
All attempts made to call the National President of
ASUU, Dr. Nasir Fagge failed as he neither picked
calls put across his GSM line nor replied the text
message sent to him.

”Return to classrooms”, Jonathan appeals to ASUU
on october 19, 2013 at 5:03 pm in news
Ado-Ekiti – President Goodluck Jonathan on Saturday in Ado-Ekiti appealed to members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to return to the classrooms in the interest of their students.
He made the appeal at the inauguration of the College of Engineering Complex at the Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD), Ekiti State.
The three-storey college complex was also named after the President.
Jonathan urged ASUU members to heed his appeal saying that whatever their grievances might be, keeping students out of school for four months was unpatriotic.
“I once again appeal to the entire membership of ASUU to pause and ponder on the adverse effect of their action on the future of the vibrant youths of this great nation.
“The collective destiny of tens of thousands of tomorrow’s leaders should not be held hostage to vagaries of labour disputes.
“As long as we are humans, as long as we are a developing society, this labour dispute must come up.
“I always say that even in the developed societies we hear about labour dispute; and there is no society, even the most developed, that has provided the facilities for every worker.
“Our security services, the Police, the Armed Forces, Navy, Air Force and para-military, intelligent services are also operating in an environment that is not the best.
“If all of us should go on long strike because our environment is not at its optimum, then definitely we can never get the Nigeria of our dream.
“So, let me use this unique opportunity that I am interfacing with our future leaders, our students, to plead with ASUU members.
“If it is a genuine strike keeping students out of classrooms for almost four months, by that they have demonstrated to everybody that they have a case.
“And if the strike is motivated by some other interests, they have also achieved that by keeping students out of schools for more than a semester,” he said.
The President emphasised that the freedom of association and the right of workers to go on strike should not be abused to harm the country’s interest.
“I believe that labour has the right to go on strike, but in that strike, any action taken must be built on patriotic zeal.
“In as much as you can go on strike, you must be patriotic to our country.
“No matter how and what you feel about Mr president and the federal government, I plead with ASUU that for the sake of our students, they should resume classes,” he said.
President Jonathan assured all that the government would continue to work with all Nigerians to build a better country for all and future generation.
He noted that as long government had shown commitment to improving the qualities of infrastructure in the universities and the operating environment, ASUU should reconsider its stand.
Jonathan noted that if students of private universities could get their degrees within three and half years as witnessed in ABUAD, “it is unacceptable that students of public institutions are kept for extra one or two years
