Lagosians were shocked about the recent 'merry-go-round' tour embarked the 57 Local Government Chairmen (including LCDAs) in the state to the United Kingdom.

The trip is estimated to cost tax payers over £724,000 (N181 million) on their Air travel and Accommodation alone. This figure excludes their estacodes that usually triples the figure above.

Mrs Abayomi Folake of Amuwo Odofin estate, in Mile 2, described the trip as "inhuman and wondered why the whole 57 Chairmen and their aides in the state should embark on such a leisure trip at this time of economic hardship".

The chairman of PDP, Opposition party in the state, Captain Tunji Shelle (rtd), mourned that "we view this recent misplaced trip of the council chairmen to the United Kingdom as insensitive and absurd, especially as the trip must have cost the state a lot more than what the striking doctors are demanding for consolation, pending the final settlement of their grievances".

"How can anyone rationalise the trip at this period, when the chairmen should been monitoring how the councils’ health facilities have been activated to ameliorate the pains of the ongoing strike by doctors?"
