Nigeria Will Never Disintegrate- President Goodluck Jonathan Says by Balyz: 8:48pm On May 27, 2012
President Goodluck Jonathan today boasted that Nigeria will never disintegrate; rather, he said, the country will triumph over terror.

Speaking at the 2012 Democracy Day Church Service in Abuja, Mr. Jonathan also stated that, if not for the professionalism of the Nigerian Armed Forces, “anything will happen” in the country.

President admitted that Nigeria is riddled with challenges, but assured Nigerians “that Nigeria will never disintegrate.” He added, “Our forefathers worked hard to bring us together as a nation. When people begin to reckon with Nigeria it is not because of the oil we produce. Some of us get deceived. Those who read so much about oil and the global oil will think that we have oil, but if you divide our oil per head, what do we have?

Nothing. The volume of oil we produce can’t be compared to what we have in the Middle-East. But whenever you talk about Nigeria people reckon with us because of the potentials we have and the size of the country. We have very few countries that have the kind of geography we have – from the Atlantic sea through the mangrove swamps, through the rain forest through the savannah, into the semi-desert areas.”

The president also spoke about the enchanting landscapes of Adamawa and Cross River states.

Mr. Jonathan vowed that Nigeria would survive the selfish interests of individuals and groups.

Has GEJ ever heared of the saying "Never say never"? GEJ must understand that you cannot force people to stay together if they don't want to. The problem in the case of Nigeria is that no one consulted with all the various ethnic groups back then and asked them if they indeed wanted to share a country together. We were just lumped together. This can be likened to a man and a woman who do not love each other and have nothing in common being forced to get married to each other and stay married. They might just end up killing each other.

The same can be said of Nigeria. Unless we practice true federalism with regional governments, people will continue to be miserable and as long as people are miserable, they will continue calling for a disintegration of Nigeria. 2015 will be interesting indeed because GEJ should understand that the northern leaders do not want another southern president. They say it is their turn to rule and even if there will be no rigging of the elections and a non-northerner is voted in fairly, northern leaders will still not accept that president. I see trouble ahead.

Of course it won't. Rather, it will continue to rot till we become extinct.

Um, actually that's wrong Mr."Northerner-is-the-boogey-man", Nnamdi Azikiwe was the tie breaker that lumped everyone together.
