Urgently need an answer.

The present Bible doesn't state what fruit they ate but a lot of people mistake that fruit to be an apple. Reason being that the word 'apple' in Middle English, is used to refer to fruits and nuts in general. And Middle English was used to translate the Bible.
The actual fruit they ate was probably written in one of the earlier versions of the Bible but got lost in translation.

I was thinking the same thing. Maybe the phrase, 'eating the fruit ' was used to mean carrying out an action and not literal consumption of fruit.
But try google, there should be more info there.

@OP, this is hard to tell. It might be figurative and it might be a real fruit as well. I have been told by some christian brothers that it is sex but I for one has not been able to decipher what exactly the fruit is.

There is no doubt that the forbidden fruit was a real fruit, but not necessarily an apple. It was the fruit that came from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil and most likely didn't have any seed in it.

I believe the whole "apple" thing is a metaphor. It could mean that Adam reached out for knowledge, tried to change his circumstance, experimented with the forbidden. That is what the whole "eating the apple" thing is about. Remember the story of the Greek individual who stole "fire" from the gods and gave it to mankind? The "fire" in this case is a metaphor for "knowledge". See?

Btw, I don't believe the whole "adam and eve" crap. Its just a creation story, same as hundreds of other creation stories of other tribes.

Obviously, from this passage it is not figurative. It was planted by God , and grew, and was in the middle of the garden of Eden. the garden of Eden is not Eve's body BTW. And the name of the tree is stated so i wonder why the question. The name of the fruit is the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil
