THE leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the South-West are lobbying the national chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur (CON), to quickly assist in redressing the marginali-sation of the zone in the current political dispen-sation.

According to them, the people of the area have become what they described as tokenism, after being rail-roaded out of office at different levels.

The leaders conveyed their complaints through a goodwill message delivered on their behalf by a former Minister of Education, Professor Tunde Adeniran, at a grand reception held by PDP leaders from the six zones of the country for Tukur in Jada, Adamawa State, last Saturday.

A copy of the statement obtained by Saturday Tribune indicated the leaders expressed their belief and confidence in Tukur’s capacity and readiness to “work closely and relentlessly” with President Goodluck Jona-than and the National Assembly leadership to ensure good governance and consolidate demo-cracy.

However, they lamented that the South-West was currently facing serious challenges arising from gross marginalisation, which required an urgent attention and action by necessary authorities.

“The zone should be treated as a special area of concern, requiring the coverage of extra miles of mobilisation, motivation, reinforcement and con-solidation for it to resume its enviable record of contributing effectively to the party’s progress through democratic activism for which it has always been known,” the leaders stated.

While extolling the maturity, sound know-ledge of judgment, discip-line and integrity of Tukur, they declared that the “people of the zone (the current victims of tokenism) believe very strongly that the marginalisation and perceived ill-feelings towards them by the party and government will be addressed.

Marginalisation ke?

The only ones feeling marginalised are thieving PDP politicians from that zone. The Southwest and its people more or less operate as a semi autonomous region within Nigeria. The PDP Federal government barely registers in the consciousness of majority of Southwest people, except when it sends its army to the region without cause, and blocks meaningful initiatives to move the region forward.

Can the PDP Federal government please go away ... Southwest people do no need you! You are a bloody hindrance to the success of the Southwest. Please concentrate your thieving minds on the other five zones where you are guaranteed 99.97% of the votes!!
