Immortalizing MKO is not the issue here. What i dont subscibe to is renaming Unilag to MKO university. There are other ways to immortalise him. There is MKO polytechnic and stadium.

All those UNILAG students go humble themselves. Oh! I hate this. Jonathan has removed location from unilag. When you hear University of Lagos you can think that it is located in Lagos but when you hear Moshood Abiola University you think of one school in one kind of location. Truly, i don't have anything against late chief MKO but that naming drops UNILAG rank in Nigeria. Read this conversation: Guy1: oh boy, what's the name of your school? Guy2: I'm in Mashood Abiola. Guy1: is it the polytechnic or the university?

I mean we have several academics...emeritus profs and all who have made their marks, sure if he had named it after any of such people wouldn't have complained e.g wole soyinka university...never liked the idea of mixing politics with academics personally...he should have rather named an event square, tourist attraction site or errect a statue for him at a main city entrance...so this is nothing personal or about GEJ

This is utter rubbish. He is not a millitary head of state like IBB to change the name of a University without consulting with the school authorities. There is a Professor on STV right now that is very mad at the President's decision to make such a change without consulting the school's senate. They are mourning the past VC at the moment with the burial scheduled for Thursday. GEJ needs to consult with stakeholders before making decisions that affect them. This is DEMOCRACY!!!
