The lawmakers say the President and the security chiefs need to answer questions regarding the growing insecurity and crises in the North

The House of Representatives passed a historic resolution Tuesday, summoning President Goodluck Jonathan over excerbating violence that has gripped the nation for more than a year.

Federal lawmakers usually mandate the appearance of government ministers and other officials, while the president's address before the National Assembly holds annually during budget presentation, and occasionally during the visit of some international dignataries.

This time, the president is to officially brief the lawmakers on the current state of insecurity mainly in northern states.

He is to appear with his defence chiefs.

The date for his appearance has however not been named, meaning the lawmakers may allow Mr. Jonathan the discretion of choosing a date in line with his schedule.

More details later..

I cant see d president honouring this invitation. A further strain in d relationship between d house and jonathan will ensue. Is this a first step towards undermining d president and initiating impeachment proceedings against him? time will tell. we need to pray for dis country.

^^^ The President's party holds MAJORITY in both the House and Senate. Enough of the inane excuses please.

This might be a good idea. Summoning the President may help us better understand why it seems NOTHING IS BEING DONE.

And for those of you who do not understand why the President is also being summoned, it is because, according to the Nigerian Constitution, He is the one in charge of the Police Force.

Please take time to read up on your Nation's constitution during Lunch time.
215. (1) There shall be -

(a) an Inspector-General of Police who, subject to section 216(2) of this Constitution shall be appointed by the President on the advice of the Nigeria Police Council from among serving members of the Nigeria Police Force;

(b) a Commissioner of Police for each state of the Federation who shall be appointed by the Police Service Commission.

(2) The Nigeria Police Force shall be under the command of the Inspector-General of Police and contingents of the Nigeria Police Force stationed in a state shall, subject to the authority of the Inspector-General of Police, be under the command of the Commissioner of Police of that state.

(3) The President or such other Minister of the Government of the Federation as he may authorise in that behalf may give to the Inspector-General of Police such lawful directions with respect to the maintenance and securing of public safety and public order as he may consider necessary, and the Inspector-General of Police shall comply with those direction or cause them to be compiled with.

(4) Subject to the provisions of this section, the Governor of a state or such Commissioner of the Government state as he may authorise in that behalf, may give to the Commissioner of Police of that state such lawful directions with respect to the maintenance and securing of public safety and public order within the state as he may consider necessary, and the Commissioner of Police shall comply with those directions or cause them to be complied with:

Provided that before carrying out any such directions under the foregoing provisions of this subsection the Commissioner of Police may request that the matter be referred to the President or such minister of the Government of the Federation as may be authorised in that behalf by the President for his directions.

(5) The question whether any, and if so what, directions have been given under this section shall not be inquired into in any court.

It amount to irresponsibility on the part of the c i c ,I'm dead sure had it been he woke up this morning and found his wife vomiting as in been sick I'm sure his trip would have been cancel, instead a representative would have been send.just a year ago during his campaign he was busy telling us that he was part of us,he shared in our pains sorrows etc .take it or leave no reasonable and responsible father would decide to go work when he knows that hi house is on fire.

Rocking the house? Please please it is rocking the minds of Nigerians who have allowed this to distract them from the main issues the Nation is yet to deal with, even 6 months into yet another year.
