I will advice you take them to the hospital probably antibiotics will be prescribed.

Meanwhile u can dissolve sugar in palm oil and give them every 2 hours.

Concerning this sugar/palm oil solution, my question is; is it a whole cube of sugar or a small quantity, also d palm oil, is it teaspoon or tablespoon?
Thanks

You sure it's just teething? Why not get medical help? One week is much for recurring fever my dear!

2 cubes is okay
Use ur discretion with the quantity of d palm oil.
The solution should not be too thick nor too watery. just a paste like but very light.
Give every 2 hrs.
Only for mild cough sha.

As an adult, hot water + Honey + lime + ginger is a great home remedy for cough.

Don't attribute every fever to teething please see a doctor.

Teething fever usually subsides once the tooth has crowned. Take care.

Hey mamas, how did our weekend go?

I know we are all looking for activities for our kids and I hope we are still reading. Baby E is now sounding out Numbers (1 to 7) by herself and sings "Twinkle Little Star" like an Opera singer (she likes hitting the high notes at the end of the line "what you are!"wink. Here are 2 more DIY activities we can do for our kids, one teaches them numbers and alphabets, the other is good for teaching shapes. For the one teaching shapes, all you need is a cardboard, some pieces of cardboard and stick velcro to the back and front (velcro is like N100 to N200 per yard and that is more than enough to make this project. If you can get craft foam paper (it used to be N500 for 30 or more pieces), it works better for the shapes and it is already coloured and flexible for bending and is soft and not easy to chew off bits for munchy babies. The economy may be bad doesn't mean we can neglect mental development and these are easy and affordable. Baby E was disturbing everyone today to I mixed edible paint, gave her paper and that kept her quiet till bathtime this evening. HTH.

This is great stuff ma'am. How did you get these?

Nasal aspirator should be used occasionally as it can make the whole situation worse.

Have you tried silverbird? Get original silverbird and dilute it with any oil (coconut or baby oil) and apply it on the crown of his head. Apply it on his head after every bath time and occasionally during the night whilst he's asleep. Silverbird must be super diluted as it's quite strong. You can also apply a few drops around his cot. Remember again to really dilute silverbird with the oil and the smell of the oil must not be over powering.

Once he's 12 weeks old, buy OLBAS OIL. Apply the oil on his clothes, cot, etc few times a day. Olbas oil helps in relieving nasal congestion.

Another option that's recommended by doctors is to run a hot/warm shower in the bathroom with the door closed and after some few minutes, take your baby to the bathroom and have him inhale the steam. i have tried this personally a few times but it didn't work for me until I tried the silverbird method.

Another method is to place a bucket of hot water near you and have someone cover you (your baby on your laps) with a blanket and then your baby can inhale the steam. I have tried this (I sprinkled silverbird in the water) and it did work. I also used an aspirator immediately after and I was able to suck out a lot of mucus. However, you have to be very very very careful with this method because of the hot water so as to avoid any accident or burns.

Finally, have you taken him to the hospital to complain and have your son looked at? If its a case of serious congestion, the catarrah might have to be sucked out using a specialised hospital aspirator. Your doctor might however decide not to do anything as they feel this is a phase that will pass.

I've already done some of these things. Steam, silverbird and coconut combo, silverware in hot water, they help to an extent but sucking out the mucus is the problem. I think the best thing is to take him to the hospital like you said.
Thanks, God bless you.

try mashing his body with hot water before bathing him,not the one that will injure but it should hot to help clear the catarrh.it helped my lo.

Yeah, I even put a small hot towel (not too hot) on his nose and it helps to loosen up the mucus but getting it out is always the issue. Thanks

Apart from blood tests, how did they confirm diagnosis of Sepsis (most Nigerian hospitals don't do catheters for very little kids and lumbar puncture too is tricky). How long has he been on antibiotics?

Is he able to tolerate any food? If he's accepting formula try and ensure its a soy based one, dairy products can aggravate stooling

What type of aspirator have you using ? Is it the "bulb" type? I find them completely useless as they remove little or nothing.

I attached pictures of a very good aspirator - "nosefrida nasal aspirator". If you can get it where you are based, it's really good. It's a bit similar with the hospital aspirator ( at the hospital, the child is swaddled with a cloth and a tube/pipe is inserted the right into the child nostrils and pressure is used from a tube like machine to remove all the snot and mucus - a very heartbreaking and rather distressing procedure to watch I must say).

With this aspirator, you use your mouth to suck the tube and all the mucus is extracted out. You can read online for more information/reviews on it.

Cerelac too has milk how about just plain pap for now? Isomil is a soy based formula though it's not that pleasant tasting if you get me you could try it for this period. That cerelac has plenty milk which could be aggravating the stools

We cannot emphasize enough the importance of hanging out with other women who are doing what you’re doing. Swaddling, nursing, trying out bottles, using front carriers, swings – these are some of the things you’ll discuss. But there are also the sensitive issues of body image, careers, and relationships.

It’s quite likely that you and your partner are experiencing parenting a little differently. Finding other women with whom you can share your experiences is important. Furthermore, it is an excellent motivator to get you out of the house.

The First Time Moms’ group (Nigeria) is a wonderful opportunity to meet other new mothers, and to speak honestly about the challenges and joys of this important change of life! Take time for yourself to talk through big changes and connect with and support other women on the same journey.

Congrats on the birth of your daughter.

First of all, is your breastmilk flowing? If it's not, she won't be encouraged to suck because she's hungry and she's expecting the taste of milk in her mouth.

However, if you are sure your milk is flowing, then keep breastfeeding AFTER she's being bottle fed and in between meal times (when she's not hungry). Even if all she does is to suck for few minutes, don't be discouraged and continue. If you do this persistently, she will get used to the texture of the nipple in her mouth.

I will also suggest you do a bit of skin to skin contact. Drape her in blankets and cuddle her next to your topless chest. Skin to skin contact has been said to encourage the flow of breastmilk.

Mama the milk is flowing o, though not as I would want. I'll try your method cos its painful she doesn't suck. Went for check-up today at the hospital and saw other mothers breastfeeding, it was painful.

@ All mamas
A family friend told my mom that a child not breastfeeding can be the work of 'awon aye'. She said the baby will be seeing a pair of eyes glaring at her when she tries to suck and that the remedy is a leaf used to wash the breast. Pls who has heard of this before and how true is it

You are funny o! Awon aye ke? Putting their oju on "Godmother"? Please mama don't let desperate situations make you no longer have faith in God.

As long as your baby is having regular wet diapers and adding weight all is well and your milk sufficient too.

If for any reason bm don't flow well abeg carry yourself go buy formula ebf is not by force o! See how you are already beating yourself up because other women are breast feeding their kids at the hospital shocked how are you even sure their own milk outlet is better than yours? Please and please don't give yourself unnecessary heartache over a non issue angry

Holy Ghost fire roast and blind any awon aye putting eye on Godmothers breast in Jesus name amen kiss

Give it time and keep putting your baby to breast with time she will latch on! Forgive me if my tone is offensive.
