Don't mind the common yoruba clearing agent now posing as a marine engineer. grin As if he has a clue what he is saying. Talk about a chemist dishing out medical diagnosis as if they are doctors an initiating a quack treatment. These things only happen in Nigeria.

I feel the pains of those who ask about Ibaka seaport. That project has had panic bells ringing across Nigeria and there is a concerted effort to frustrate it. But for how long? Just as they have continued to frustrate other Eastern ports by denying certain types of imports commonly used in the eastern markets. All these things boil down to seeking sound political power in the center. That is why we must make sure those who have sworn the destruction of Igbo people in Nigeria, must never rule us again.

its not possible that the whole coastline from cross river to delta doesn't have a single spot deep enough for ports .
If you know how the whites create ports out of mere puddles, you will see that even Onitsha river port is more than enough for anything, not to talk of the deep seas in SS..

Just like Onne and Lagos ports were built on tributaries leading to the ocean. If you look at google earth, Calabar port is also on a major tributary of the cross river leading to the ocean. It's only draw back is that Nigerian governments have not equipped the port with cranes to off load big ships.

Most great ports in the USA in Galveston Texas, New Orleans LA, Gulf port-Biloxi, Miami Florida, Wilmington NC,New York , Savannah GA, Boston MA, etc.were all built in major river tributaries leading to the ocean. The sense in doing this is to keep the ports accessible to the ocean, while shielding it from the violent ocean waves.

So that man does not know what he is talking about. He is speaking out of the usual hatred and desire to deprive one part of the country amenities so that another part continues to benefit from their misery.

I like the bolded, Ibaka seaport is the nemesis of the of some nigerians that want to maintain a monopoly of ports business in Nigeria! they succede for this long because the eastern flank of the country were not in position of authority to get it done. Ibaka seaport will be built, but it require men of courage and political savvy to jump all the hoops that has been layed against the project. Thank God for Gov. Akpabio,He himself is a nemisis to those against the project. All the neccessary approvals for the port has been obtained the ball now lies the the Federal executive council to approve it and release funding for it, just like they have already done for the Lekki port.

If building a seaport was like building and airport, cheaper, and states could do it alone without waiting for the FG and Private investors. Ibaka Seaport would be berthing ships as we speak. The meddlesomeness of the FG parastatals have not helped the project.

The first phase of the project alone which is the deep sea component without the embankment, jetties and warehousing is a whooping $2billion.
The whole project from start to finish is expected to cost $6billion. thats a Lot of money. Even the FG cannot sponsor that by themselves at a go hence the tiring balancing of act of carrying the Private investor, FG and state Govt.
But Gov. Akpabio has promised to be the governor that sees to the ground breaking of that project before he leaves office and i believe him because of his track record.

Now that's quite huge. Looks impossible to achieve I must confess especially now that oil price is nose diving sad.

I believe we need Chinese or world bank loan to construct this port.

Its a gradual process that will be executed in phases. Akwa Ibom State is not exactly penny pinching state. so overtime they can fund a substantial part of the project. all the state needs if the FEC to approve and release its part of funding. and the rest will be taken care of.

Just like they did for the state airport started with the basics Runway and a temporary terminal.once aircraft started landing, they are now focused in expanding the airport with a parrallel runway/taxiway, an new and bigger terminal building which are under construction and an MRO which the building itself has been completed.

The same principle will be used for the seaport which is building the basic part, building the deep sea component for seagoing vessels start berthing over time the other additions will be made.
Trust me i have seen the planning for this port barring any sudden twist in the political climate in the country this port will be built. the only thing that can slow this project down is If GEJ is not elected in 2015 which is highly unlikely.

Ibaka deep seaport is the answer to the viability of all the eastern ports those that are opposing it know this for sure. because once ibaka is onstream Calabar, warri, portharcourt, onitsha will all use it as their trans-shipment point, where very large vessels that presently do not visit any ports in Nigeria, because of their size and the limitation of our existing ports to handle their bulk and size can bring goods for all those port in one trip and they will break the bulk at ibaka and move them to their respective end ports thereby making then viable, because issues like dredging or not enough cargo will be will be eliminated as shippers can use smaller ship and even barges to float their containers to any desired end port no matter how shallow the water draft, A transshipment point as Ibaka deepseaport will make all our existing riverport and new one viable for business. Jetties can be built in all our inland waterways, and they will all be viable because of a major feeder port at Ibaka.

I saw this program on the DG of NTDC.
I was glad that someone was finally thinking about developing our tourist sites and how to safely bring in tourists to Nigeria.
This is an area the Enugu state government should facilitate in collaboration with the Ethiopian airlines, SE hotel proprietors and transporters in the region. Other SE governors need to come on board too.
The first step in helping world tourists to see our festivals and tourist sites have been possible with the direct international flights into the Akanu Ibiam International airport from many African cities and world cities connecting via Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The next step is to develop a Cultural Tourism calendar of major cultural events/ tourist sites of the region, which can be advertised via the Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation (NTDC) to invite foreigners willing to experience the events. Other neighboring states in the SE and even Kogi and Benue state can contribute to the calendar if they wish to have tourists visiting their cultural events too.

The genius is to assist a prospective tourist to organize visa, Flight into Enugu, Hotel accommodation and secure air-conditioned local transportation to and fro while in Nigeria for one tour price. All done in one down payment for all these service paid even before they leave their country of origin. This creates peace of mind for the tourist and reduces hassle/ anxiety for a first time tourist to Nigeria.
Therefore, our travel agencies will work with the marketing agencies in the various countries with the assistance of the NTDC to help prospective tourists arrange hotel accommodation and comfortable, reliable transport and security while they are in Nigeria to see these numerous African wonder events and sites. Short stay visas will now be stamped at the airport of entry, which makes the visa hassle less daunting for the tourist.

For example, if someone living in the USA intends to travel to South Africa to see a carnival, you will pay a fixed amount which takes care of your airfare, hotel accommodation in SA and a comfortable transportation to and fro the event. This encourages many tourists to visit South Africa in spite of the high crime rate, knowing their trip, who to pick them up from the airport and where to stay will be taken care of by the tour agencies registered with the government there.

Therefore, Safe and clean Nigerian states as Enugu should work with Ethiopian airline, NTDC and the hotels to make this type of tour a reality for those willing to visit from abroad. Tourism is a goldmine area Nigerians typically ignore chasing the elusive oil wealth.

If Seaports cost $2- $6 billion dollars to build, how did poor countries like Jamaica, Haiti, Mozambique, Madagascar, Eritrea, Djibouti, Benin Republic, Sierra Leone etc find such mind boggling funds to build seaports ?

I seriously doubt the quote of $2 -6 billion dollars for Ibaka deep sea port. Even deep sea ports the size of a medium Nigerian city cost about that much in USA, where we know cost of labor is astronomical.
Yet, Ibaka seaport isn't supposed to be that huge to be bigger than 3 square miles area of some of these gigantic seaports that cost billions of dollars to build. It is like comparing the cost of Heathrow or JFK international airport and saying because it cost $200 billion dollars to build New York JFK airport, we shouldn't build an international airports in Nigeria or Uyo because we cannot find such funds to build a JFK like international airport in Nigeria. Yet, we don't need international airports that gigantic like JFK or Heathrow in Uyo or Enugu.

For example, Gwadar deep seaport in Pakistan pictured below cost only $250 million dollars! ...and also built by China!
If we can get something like this for phase one at Ibaka seaport, we can start there for now.Don't be surprised that what they are quoting for $6 billion dollars may not even be as big as Gwadar deep seaport!
So $300-500 million dollars for the initial phase of Ibaka seaport should be considered for now. The port can be expanded and improved with time.

I don't support this idea.
Every city suppose have independent port rather than this transshipment you're saying hereundecided
Nigeria is not an island, so it is better to offload container from the ship to the ground then move it with mack truck rather than you to transfer it to another slow movement(ship) to get to another location before you will finally make use of truck.
Its either they built independent port for cities that worthy it or they save the money for that decisive project for charity homes.

Egyptians army are building their second canal(man made water that can entertain all seizes of cargo ship) while Nigerians are still doubting the power strength of technology.

My brother this you're defense is daft and shallow, so we are going to fold our hands while others are doing the right thing because civilization started in their country?
Are you sure you're an Igbo man?
Civilization in Nigeria started in the northern part of this country and as we are coming up, our abode was bombed to pieces, yet will rise again to overtake them and even overtake those from western part of this country.
So if we must chop frog, make we chop the big ones, so that if we are called the frog eaters make we proudly answer YES.

FEC approves $1.3b for construction of Lekki deep sea port - See more at: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2013/12/fec-approves-1-3b-construction-lekki-deep-sea-port/#sthash.9rfhnZxz.dpuf
The Federal government Wednesday took the initiative to decongest existing ports in the country as it approved a $1.35billion contract for the construction of a new Deep Sea Port in Lekki- Lagos State.
Minister of transport Senator Idris Umar who briefed state house correspondents after the weekly Federal Executive Council meeting said the project which is expected to be completed within the next four years is to constructed under a public private partnership PP arrangement on a concession basis for a period of 45 years after which it will revert to the federal government.
The Minister explained that the federal government has 20 percent equity in the project with Lagos state having 18.5percent equity while the private investors have 61.85 percent stake in the project.
He said “Council approved the issuance of a Guarantee to cover financial obligation of the NPA to pay compensation in the event of expropriation, war, civil disturbance, breach of contract and other event of default as per the concession agreement for the development of the port, as $800million out of the project cost is to be funded through debt financing while the balance of $554.5million is to be contributed by equity.
- See more at: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2013/12/fec-approves-1-3b-construction-lekki-deep-sea-port/#sthash.9rfhnZxz.dpuf

If FG's contribution to lekki seaport is $1.3 billion, and FG will own only 20% stake on this project and the state and private sector will share the remaining 80% of the cost now do the maths on how much the project will cost. the Ibaka seaport is expected to follow simillar funding % but the difference is that FG=20%, AKSG=20% and private consortium = 60%.
For those of you that are quoting how expensive this project is and copying wikipedia cost. seaport is not cheap if it were a $500million project you would have seen significant progress at Ibaka by now and even lekki by now

Yes its expensive but not all that money will be spent at once. A deep seaport is not an everyday shallow port project. As big as Nigeria is. As of today we do not have a single deep seaport, if it were a cheap project it would have been developed eons ago. there is a big difference with a deep port and shallow ports.

As a Deltan, i was seriously concerned that the Effurun roundabout be made a spectacular beautiful sight, thank God Uduaghan listened and beautified it with flowers and a big water fountain.

The same zeal that i have for the Naira triangle in Enugu because i know its potential to create a powerful ambiance of Enugu. I hope Chime will beautify that triangle or roundabout of sort, to make an indelible impression on anyone coming into Enugu before he leaves the Lion Building in May,2015. Ofcourse also putting a water fountain in the middle of it like the Effurun roundabout in pictures 1&2.

The King's square Benin is another such big roundabout and even has a museum of Benin history built in it as part of tourists attraction.
Last picture is King's square Benin. One hopes that the Naira triangle should be fitted with water fountains and the whole area fenced off with railings and used to beautify the city.

"Civilization started in Egypt"

Blackmen actually started Egyptian civilization, if in doubt Google "List of Egyptian Pharoahs" click on the Wikipedia article,70% of pictures there(from the 1st dynasty down) are Negros. They current inhabitants of Egypt do not in anyway resemble ancient Egyptians.

Never knew Ethiopia is a landlock country. Maybe that's why they prioritized on Aviation, which is what we should do in South East

Yes, Ethiopia fought a bitter war in the 1990s to keep it's north-east province of Eritrea, that was Ethiopia's only access to the sea.
Eventually, they realised that they didn't need access to the sea in order to prosper,so they let Eritrea break away from Ethiopia. Today, Ethiopia is one of the fastest growing African economies and Eritrea that now owns the entire access to the sea is a failed state of sorts. grin grin grin grin grin

This lesson again buttresses that what develops a country is the peoples' ability to look inwards and plan their lives around what is their own, instead of fighting for what God had given other people. Talk of northern Nigeria's abundant mineral wealth and arable land blessings wasting away, while all focus is to cheat in order to control the oil wells in other peoples' land!

Conversely, Enugu state must disregard the deceitful calculated Nigerian calumny against coal power plants and iron/steel making factories , Cement making and other industrial uses of coal. We must focus on attracting investors into the coal industry and aggressively pursue & promote those investments that will revitalize the Enugu coal industry again.

South Africa, United States of America, China, Brazil, India, Poland and Germany are a few of the major world economies whose electricity power supply is based up to 50% from coal !!! Infact SA electricity is more than 90% from COAL! Is Nigeria cleaner or more environmentally friendly than USA, Germany or South Africa? The same Nigeria that has refused to stop gas flaring as part of oil extraction? You can see Nigeria deliberately refused to use coal energy so that they would not develop that industry primarily located in the SE region!

Don't call me sir,I guesed its the way I approched u, and am sorry, still a teen. If the next Governor likes he will call for work to resume on the project,he also replicated same gesture in Asaba, abandoning the flyover and the mall, though they've resumed work on Effurun mall recently, and it was supposed to open 1st.
