discounted rate. The first phase

The Nigeria Police Force
has launched a special
Close User Group package
which will enable officers
and men of the Force to
communicate seamlessly
with themselves and their
family members at a
specially discounted rate.
The first phase of the
scheme, christened
COOPCOM, which includes
100,000 Glo lines and data
connection, was launched
in Abuja on Thursday, July
5.
The project, an initiative of
the Nigeria Police Force
Cooperative Society, is
designed to enhance the
crime-fighting capabilities
of the officers and men of
the Force and ease
communication with their
family members,
particularly when on
posting in different
locations across the
country.
The Inspector General of
Police, M.D. Abubakar,
who launched the project at the
Force Headquarters, Abuja, said
that the CUG will enhance the
ability of the force to fight
crime. He also described the
facility as affordable and
secured. "This CUG is cheaper,
faster, has a wider range and is
secured because it is in-house".
The IGP was represented by the
Deputy Inspector General (C
Department), Mr. Kachi Udoji.
Globacom's Head of Public
Sector Department, Mr. Tunde
Amunikoro, explained that the
COOPCOM will allow members
of the CUG to communicate
among themselves free of
charge for as long as they
desire at a low monthly rental
while they also pay very
minimally for calls outside the
CUG.
According to him, the project
has been painstakingly designed
to also make life easier for
families of policemen across the
country. “We have considered
the rate at which officers of the
Nigerian Police Force are
transferred across the country,
leaving their families behind at
various commands. This scheme
will certainly reduce the
communication gap while on
such postings,” he said.
Amunikoro said in order to
ensure high quality of service on
the network, Glo had built
excess capacity to
accommodate the
communication demands of the
Force. He disclosed further that
Glo had also injected several
soft and highly motivating
packages into the scheme to
make it very user-friendly and
cost-effective.
