If God has given us freedom to do whatever we like why do religious leaders condemn suicide, most especially since it is an act that is done voluntarily and does not in any way affect others.

There is really no express doctrine or instruction regarding suicide in the bible. suicide indicates somebody in some personal trouble and unable to cope with his inadequacies in life. i think christianity tends to frown on suicide because "it shows" that you have not applied christian principles in dealing with your personal crisis/issues, christianity is supposed to redefine your value system.
