Aarenaija: Please no dismissal. A few days in the cell will do. The arrest alone is enough humiliation for a good military officer. cool cool cool

Yot can't put an officer in the cell except if he is charged with treason or coup plotting. Even a 2/LT has that immunity not to talk of a colonel.

Some can't imagine the military men they constantly slobber over can be so humbled lol,get use to it squarepants and stop prancing around trying to make people believe a largely in indiscipline military is above caution, and I am saying this as a son of a veteran.
The Nigerian military is one of the most indisciplined in the world, have got little respect for that institution anyways.
Apologies to the few who served from their heart.
Bunch of clueless middle-aged failures-yes

You go to some of their facilities and you might see some basic stuff not functioning and no one to fix it. Normally we should have the best engineers in our military but noway! you will amazed at the shocking incompetence within.
They only go about denigrating the whole essence of service

The news of the arrest of the colonel by the Lagos state governor seem to have been over celebrated by the media and the general public.
Before making any conclusion or taking any position. We need to look at it the predicament more closely and objectively and then weigh the implication.
First and foremost, it is acknowledged that it was not right for the military officer to have broken traffic rule.
In any case, the governor should have applied some tact in handling the situation.
A colonel in the Nigerian Army deserves to be treated with respect especially in minor cases of traffic matters which is not a genocide or criminal offense.
The senior officer was courteous enough to salute and apologize to the Governor for the breach.
I acknowledge the goodwill and forthrightness of the governor. I truly respect and love him.
However, his action on this matter appears to be an over reaction and tend to portray him as playing to the gallery even though that may not be his intention.
This action could have damaging effect on him and on the entire nation. In view of the current state of the nation, actions capable of creating cold war or bad blood should be handled more professionally.
The governor should have applied tact and diplomacy by just calling the officer to order instead of the arrest for the following reasons:

Exigencies and peculiarity of the military function
The rank of the officer involved who could be a military administrator or even a Head of State in a military rule
The risk and hazard this men go through to ensure the security of the nation within and without

The truth is that the military still appear to me like the most disciplined set of people you can find in this nation
My conclusion is that when a military man is found wanting in any matter that is not criminal, the best step to take is to report him to his superiors within the military who would naturally take appropriate disciplinary measure. This is far better better than trying to use civilians to embarrass them.
These men truly deserve our respect.

But why did brf arrested this military man just because brt line is for his business but fashola forgot that this man is a force man on duty or to attend to some issues concerning the security of this country abeg that military man shouldn't have apologized to brf, rather he should have told him that there is an emergency that his attention is been needed not to start pleading, therefore making brf more important to his rank as colonel because that man can be a governor tomorrow but brf can not be a colonel[/b]

1) Why do people keep saying the colonel would have been a governor under military rule? Are they in support of military rule? Is it the job of the military to rule?

2) Why do people keep saying that the governor embarrassed the colonel? The colonel embarrassed himself by his action. People in uniform should respect their uniform and not bring shame to it by committing offences or acting in a disgraceful manner especially while wearing the uniform. If you act in a disgraceful manner while wearing the uniform, then you deserve all the embarrassment you get. If a policeman is caught drunk while in uniform, who is the cause of the embarrassment; the person that catches him, or the policeman who chooses to get drunk? Indeed it is right that a public spectacle is made of him iin order to deter others (on a thread a few days ago, people were complaining that uniformed men and other government officials are above the law).
