Good morning friends, thanks for joining ME for this week’s EDESON WEEKEND FACTFILE NEWS, I’m wishing you a scintillating weekend.

FIRST IN THE NEWS is the BIG STORY of the WEEKEND:
>> court in Delta State has sentenced a farmer, Mr. Chukwutem Eke to death by hanging by, having been found guilty of beheading a 15-year old boy for ritual purposes. He was said to have been contracted by a pastor of a certain white garment church to commit the act for ritual purposes.

AND NOW, THE MAIN NEWS HEADLINES: 1. Local Government Election holds in Ogun State today. No fewer than three thousands security operatives have been deployed to all the polling units in all the local government areas of the state.
2. The Ekiti State government has commenced the evacuation of beggars and lunatics from the streets of Ado Ekiti, with a plan to return them to their states of origin. The state’s Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Mr. Folorunso Olabode, who supervised the exercise, said the measure was to check the security challenges in the country. The commissioner said the beggars and lunatics were capable of being manipulated by evil people. Olabode said the measure was also in line with the desire of the state government to make the streets of the state capital beautiful, adding that the beggars and sundry undesirable elements constitute nuisance.
3. Nigeria’s First Lady on Thursday had a road named after her in Abuja. Patience Jonathan Road is said to link the defense police officers wives association office (DEPOWA) with Shehu Yar'Adua Barracks around Area. In addition, she was sworn in as a Permanent Secretary in Bayelsa State yesterday.
4. It has been reported that American rapper, RICK ROSE is visiting Nigeria for concert on Friday, August 17, 2012, According to reports, the weird rapper William Leonard Roberts II popularly known as Rick Ross, will storm the commercial nerve centre of Nigeria, Lagos for the Summer Jam Fest 2012 concert at the exquisite Eko Hotel and Suites. We shouldn’t be in a hurry to forget that the beard and huge hip hop superstar did the remix of the song, ONYENYI with Nigerian born twin-singers, P-SQUARE.
5. Storm 360 Entertainment has launched an Online Radio, The Inc just announced the launch of Storm FM - Nigeria's first record label operated online radio station. Storm FM will feature latest music from Storm 360 Artists, DJ mixes, artist interviews, behind the scenes audio and exclusive content. Storm FM will be exclusively available on “Jandus Radio Mobile Application”.

6. Did you know that Nigerian footballer, Mikel Obi was not on TWITTER?. Well, he just created his TWIITER Account on Thursday this week and the account is already verified.

7. As London gears up for the Olympics, Africa's most dynamic country, Nigeria is brought to life at Stratford. The East London borough of Newham will be treated to a feast of African music when top Nigerian artists take to the stage at the historical Stratford Theatre Royal from 21 to 25 July 2012 as part of the New World Nigeria Sports and Cultural Showcase.

8. Yesterday’s Mass shooting in Colorado movie theater during midnight showing of "The Dark Knight Rises" left at least 12 people dead and 58 injured. Reports say people were gathered inside the Century 16 Theaters in Aurora, Colorado for a midnight showing of Dark Knight when a lone gunman entered the theater around 12:30 Friday morning and opened fire. Reports from the scene indicate that some sort of explosive device was used during the incident.
9. Computing giant Microsoft has made the first quarterly loss in its history after it wrote off some of the value of its online advertising business. The loss came after it wrote down the value of Aquantive by $6.2bn (£3.94bn; 5bn euros), which failed to bring the profits expected by Microsoft. That led to a $492m loss in the three months to the end of June, compared with a profit of $5.9bn a year ago. The company has not made a loss since it joined the stock market in 1986.
9. The International Court of Justice rules that Senegal must immediately try former Chad leader Hissene Habre on charges of killing opponents, or otherwise extradite him to Belgium.
10. Guatemala's prison director was murdered on Wednesday July 18 by a gang from within the prison.
11. A Russian court rules that three feminist punk rockers who sang a protest song in Moscow's main Orthodox church will remain in pre-trial detention until mid-January 2012.
12. Report says South Africa's former police chief Jackie Selebi is to be released early on health grounds from his 15-year sentence for corruption.
13. Also in the week, Tunisia's ex-president Zine El Abidine Ben Ali has was sentenced in absentia to life in prison for complicity in the murders of 43 protesters in the 2011 revolution that toppled him.
