Police Restores Calm At Manso-nsiana by KwameP: 12:03pm On Jul 23, 2012
The mining site for the Chinese nationals operating at Manso-Nsiana in the Ashanti Region is currently being heavily guarded by the police.

This is to prevent the Chinese from operating until the issue of legal permit is resolved.

The Chinese nationals engaged the residents of Manso-Nsiana in a fierce gun battle on Thursday when the residents attempted to prevent them from engaging in their illegal mining activities.

The residents of the area earlier threatened to arm themselves to attack the illegal Chinese miners in the town.
Some of them who spoke to Citi News said their intention is not to harm anyone but to fight for the ejection of illegal Chinese miners out of town.

“There are about three Chinese mining companies here and the kind of trauma they are putting us through is unbearable. They have taken over our only source of water and they guard it with guns. If something is not done soon we will arm ourselves for protection”, said one of the residents.

But reports indicate that calm has returned to the town.

Speaking to Citi News, the Manso Nkwanta District Police Commander, Superintendent S. K. Kwakye said, “we have deployed the police patrol team to guard the area both day and night and we have asked the Chinese to stop work since the case is under investigation.”
