PoliticsFormer Bauchi Governor, Yuguda Dumps GPN For APC by 9Ebiscoo(op): 5:34pm On Sep 25, 2018
Former governor, Mallam Isa Yuguda of Bauchi state has dumped Green party of Nigeria, GPN, for the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Bauchi state GPN chairman, Alhaji Sani Mohammed Bura exclusively revealed this to DAILY POST in an interview.

He said, Yuguda had dumped the party to further pursue his political career in APC.

” I can authoritatively confirm to you that former governor, Yuguda has left for APC, even though other GPN supporters followed him to APC, people like me and other executives are still in GPN and as I’m speaking to you on the phone, I am heading to Enugu state to attend the party’s NEC meeting,” said Bura.

It could be recalled that Yuguda was said to have been under the EFCC searchlight as his house was recently sealed by the anti-graft agency.

Besides, governor Mohammed Abubakar had initially boasted that his administration will follow constitutional means to recover funds carted away by his predecessor.

Bura stressed that the former governor’s defection was coming at a time he lost the senatorial slot to the APC in the just concluded bye-election in Bauchi State.

“Yuguda has confirmed to his supporters in GPN of his exit to APC, saying the doors are opened for those interested to do so to enable them contest in other platforms,” Sani confirm.

President Muhammadu Buhari has arrived New York ahead of the 73rd Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA73) which officially opened on Sept. 18.

Buhari accompanied by his wife, Aisha, departed the presidential wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja on Sunday morning.

A statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, said the high point of Buhari’s participation would be his address on Tuesday to the General Assembly on the opening day of the General Debate.

He said the presentation would also cover the areas of disarmament and denuclearisation, youth and women empowerment, climate change, rule of law and human rights, among others.

Adesina stated that Buhari would particularly canvass international support for the fight against corruption, the return of illicit assets, counter-terrorism, insurgency and curbing of irregular migration.

He said the president would also seek the support of the international community in efforts to re-settle Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and recharging the receding Lake Chad.

PoliticsOsun Decides: Why INEC Decision Is Justified – Ubani by 9Ebiscoo(op): 9:13am On Sep 24, 2018
The immediate-past Second Vice-President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Mr. Monday Ubani, has applauded the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, on its declaration of the Osun State governorship election as inconclusive.

Ubani speaking to Punch said INEC was justified in law to declare the election inconclusive.

Ubani said: “Since the difference in the number of votes between the two leading candidates of the PDP and the APC was less than the cumulative number of registered voters in the units where votes were cancelled, INEC, by law, has the power to declare the election inconclusive.

“In the Osun election, the leading candidate had 353 votes more than the APC candidate.

“The figure is less than the over 3,000 registered voters in the units where the election was cancelled.

“But whether or not the votes were justifiably cancelled is another question.”

PoliticsOsun Decides: INEC Reveals Who Will Choose Next Governor by 9Ebiscoo(op): 8:56am On Sep 24, 2018
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said only the votes of the people of Osun, will determine the next governor of the state.

Solomon Soyebi, Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee of INEC, said this in a statement on Sunday.

This followed the outrage as a result of the declaration of the poll inconclusive.

Joseph Fuwape, returning officer of the election, had said there were no significant votes to declare a winner.

Ademola Adeleke, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), had polled 254,699 ahead of Isiaka Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who had 254,345 votes.

Afuwape said since the number of cancelled votes, 3,498, exceeded the difference between the two leading parties (353), no winner could be declared.

Soyebi, while commending the Osun people, noted that the poll has been one of the keenly contested elections in recent times.

“Notwithstanding, the successful conduct of the elections, the returning officer, Professor Joseph Adeola Fuwape, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, has communicated to the commission his inability to make a return in accordance with the legal framework and INEC guidelines,” the statement read.

“This is as a result of areas where results were cancelled there was no voting or there were disruptions.

“Based on the results collated by the returning officer, the margin between the two leading candidates is 353, which is lower than the number of registered voters in the affected areas. Extant law and INEC guidelines and regulations provide that where such a situation occurs, a declaration may not be made.

“In the light of the foregoing, the commission met and decided that it will remobilise and return to the affected polling units on Thursday 27th September 2018 to Rerun the elections, conclude collation and make a Return.

“We appeal to all stakeholders and particularly the people of Osun state to continue with the maturity and peaceful manner they have so far approached the elections. The commission wishes to reiterate its pledge that it is only the votes of the electorate in Osun state that will determine who becomes the next governor of their state.”

PoliticsINEC Declares Osun Election Inconclusive, Gives Reason by 9Ebiscoo(op): 4:41pm On Sep 23, 2018
The Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) on Sunday announced the final results of the September 22 governorship election, in which the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP led with a total votes of 254, 698.

The All Progressives Congress, APC, however polled a total of 254,345 to come second in the keenly contested exercise.

The returning officer for the governorship election, Prof. Joseph Adeola, who announced the results reeled out the total number of valid votes to be 767,955 and rejected votes to be 47,843.

Adeola added that the margin between the PDP and APC which is 353, and the total cancelled ballots totalling 3348 will not make any party a winner of the contest, in line with electoral act.

He, therefore, declared the election inconclusive, as he said the exact date for rerun will be announced soonest.

PoliticsThe Lethal Legacy Of The Vietnam War by 9Ebiscoo(op): 6:59am On Sep 23, 2018
The independent newspaper of London recently reported that the government of Vietnam Republic is demanding from the United States Chemical giant, Monsanto, to pay compensation to the victims of Agent Orange herbicide mixture, which the company supplied to the United States military during the Vietnam war in the late 1960s.
It came in response to the firm being ordered to pay S289m to Dewayne Johnson, a 46 year old California School grounds man who claims his use of its Roundup weed killer contributed to his terminal cancer.

“The verdict serves as a legal precedent which refutes previous claims that the herbicides made by Monsanto and other chemical corporations in the US and provided for the US army in the war are harmless,” Nguten Phuong Tra, a spokesman for Vietnam’s foreign ministry reportedly said,
The superior court jury deliberated for two and a half days before finding that Johnson’s non-Hodgkin Lymphoma was at least partly due to using glyphoste, the primary ingredient in Roundup. Johnson regularly used glyphosate to spray fields while working as a groundskeeper.
Monsanto “acted with malice, oppression or fraud and should be punished for its conduct,” Judge Suzanne Ramos Bolanos announced in court. Johnson’s doctors testifies he is unlikely to live past 2020. The 46 – Year Old Bay area resident worked for a California county school system and applied the weed killer up to 30 times per year as part of his pest – control responsibilities. During that period, he mixed and sprayed hundreds of gallons of the chemical.
“Today the jury confirmed what we have known since our investigation began – that Monsanto knew Roundup contained cancer – causing ingredient and failed to take this product off the shelf and protect consumers. The company chose corporate profit and geed above humanity, “said Micah Dortch of the Potts Law firm in Dallas. Although not involved in just concluded trial, the firm represents more than 100 clients currently with similar claims.

Agent orange is a chemical herbicide and defoliant used by the US military to deprive Viet Cong guerrilla fighters of food and concealment. Between 1961-1971 the US military reportedly sprayed around 12 million gallons of the chemical substances on over 30,000 miles of Southern Vietnam.
Dioxin, according to experts, is a toxic element of Agent Orange and had been linked to major health problems such as birth defects, cancers and other deadly diseases. Millions still suffer to this day, as deformities are passed down to the offspring of exposed victims including Vietnamese and American forces, The Red Cross estimates that three million Vietnamese wire been affected by dioxin including at least 150,000 children born with some birth defects. Millions of American and Vietnamese are still affected directly or indirectly by the war time spraying of Agent Orange and other herbicides over Southern and Central Vietnam.
Monsanto has argued that “the government set the specifications for making Agent Orange and determined when, where and how it was used. Agent Orange was only produced for and used by the government.” In a post on its website, the company founded in St. Louis, Missouri, in 1901 and later acquired by Bayer AG. It notes that it was one of the nine government contractors who manufactured the chemical.
The Vietnamese compensation payment initiative is receiving broad public support within the country and contributing to strengthening her international image. Monsanto had in the past sued the California’s Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment for adding glyphosate to a list of cancer causing chemicals and lost as there was conflicted evidence linking glyphosate and cancer.

The US Environmental protection Agency has gone back and forth on considering glyphosate a possible carcinogen. In its review of the chemical last year, it concluded glyphosate is likely not a carcinogen. But the World Health Organisation, WHO, has classified glyphosate as “probably carcinogenic. Ken Cook, President of Environmental Working Group, a US. Environmental organisation that researches toxic chemicals and advocates for corporate accountability says “Monsanto made Roundup the oxycontin of pesticides and now the addiction and damage they caused have come home to roost”
However inspite of the court verdict which is the first of several hundreds of lawsuits claiming Roundup causes cancer, and the green light given to proceed to trial, Monsanto supported by the US State Department and Pro-American NGOS continues to aggressively make and promote its products including its herbicides on the African market. Scott Partridge, Monsanto’s Vice – President said in a statement that the company will appeal the court verdict and will continue to vigorously defend this product which has a 40 – year history of safe use and continues to be a vital effective and safe tool for farmers and others, Nigeria’s Environmental Protection Agency must be alert to developments in the chemical industry as some of these herbicides namely Pendimenthalm, Roundup, Renew, Forceup, Buster, Galant NG etc are imported into the country and widely used as weed killers for farmers and others.

PoliticsOsun Decides: Why 435,000 Registered Voters Won’t Vote – INEC by 9Ebiscoo(op): 8:27am On Sep 22, 2018
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed that 435,015 registered voters in Osun State would not be participating in the governorship election today.

Olusegun Agbaje, the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Osun, made this known on Friday at a press conference in Osogbo.

Agbaje said 1,246,915 PVCs were collected from INEC by registered voters in the state as at Wednesday when collection of the cards for the election ended.

The commissioner, who said 1,682,495 voters were registered, warned that those who had yet to collect their PVCs would not be allowed to vote.

“The uncollected PVCs are safe in the commission’s custody, as we anticipate a credible election on Saturday.

“Those who are yet to collect their PVCs would not be allowed to vote.”

Agbaje also warned against vote selling and buying, saying those caught risk imprisonment of one year or N500,000 fine.

“Those also caught violating the secrecy of their votes may be jailed for six months or fined N100,000 or both,” he added.

Agbaje, who thanked the media for its support, however, insisted that only INEC could announce election results.

PoliticsWhy ‘fight’ Between Ambode, Tinubu Should Continue – SPN by 9Ebiscoo(op): 2:29pm On Sep 21, 2018
The Socialist Party of Nigeria on Thursday prayed that the fight between Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State and National Leader, Asiwaju Tinubu should worsen.

The opposition party in a statement on Thursday jointly signed by its Chairman, Rufus Olusesan and Publicity Secretary, Shoyombo M.K, urged Nigerians not to support Tinubu’s alleged quest to replace Ambode but to seize the opportunity to disrupt “the typical bourgeois politics wherein a tiny organised mafia is dictating the affairs and looting of collective resources.”

According to them, neither Ambode nor Tinubu deserved the sympathy of Lagos residents.

SPN urged Lagosians to reject Sanwo-Olu and Ambode and seize the opportunity to vote for its candidates to liberate Lagos from ‘moneybags.

“The Socialist Party of Nigeria states clearly that neither Sanwo-Olu nor Ambode represents a future that will make Lagos work for the mass of its poor working people, given the fact that they both represent the wishes and aspiration of big business and the moneybags.

“The struggle between the Mandate Movement loyal to Tinubu and Ambode is about business and profit interests of the contending forces of the ruling elite in Lagos.

“The disagreement between them should be used as an opportunity to free Lagos from “self-succession in power and installation of cronies as governors,” the statement said.

PoliticsWe Have Moved 10m Nigerians Out Of Poverty – FG by 9Ebiscoo(op): 2:42pm On Sep 19, 2018
The FG, through the minister of Budget and National Planning, Sen. Udoma Udo Udoma, says it has moved 10.073million Nigerians from poverty to prosperity.

He made the claim on Tuesday while speaking on arrangements for the 24th Nigerian Economic Summit (NES#24) held at the conference room of the ministry in Abuja.

He said the FG had taken steps to move over 10 million Nigerians from poverty to prosperity as one of the key priorities of the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP) by investing in the people.

According to him, the government had provided for 8.96million school children under the Home Grown School Feeding Programme; over 297,000 poor and vulnerable Nigerians supported with cash transfer of N5,000.

It has also successfully disbursed more than 308,000 loans of N50,000 and above under the Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme (GEEP) and 200,000 Young Unemployed Graduates Empowered through the N-Power scheme , while over 308,000 had been selected for consideration for the second batch.

“We have taken steps towards moving our people from Poverty to prosperity. Indeed, one of the key priorities of the ERGP is investing in our people. That objective has been behind many government programmes, particularly the social investment programme.

Under this programme, we have empowered millions of Nigerian youths, women and children. To combat hunger and achieve food security, we have raised capital provisions for agriculture from N8.8billion in 2015 to N149.2billion in the 2018 budget.

Over N82billion has been disbursed as credit to more than 350,000 farmers under the Anchor Borrowers’ programme. 14 moribund fertilizer blending plants have been revitalized through the Presidential Fertilizer Initiative (PFI), with a total capacity of 2.3million metric tons of NPK fertilizer. .
.
Nigeria’s milled rice production has increased by about 60% and since 2016 eight new rice mills have been brought into production,’’ he added.

PoliticsEnugu 2019: Ex-commissioners Endorse Ugwuanyi For Second Term by 9Ebiscoo(op): 9:54am On Sep 18, 2018
Former Commissioners in Enugu State under the auspices of Forum of Enugu State Former Commissioner (FEFCOM), on Monday unanimously endorsed Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for a second term in office.

Members of the forum, who conveyed the message to Gov. Ugwuanyi when they paid him a solidarity visit at the Government House, Enugu, stated that the decision was in appreciation of his administration’s giant development strides, peace and security initiatives, and all-inclusive policy.

They said they were highly impressed that Gov. Ugwuanyi has kept faith with “his promise of seamless transition by continuing with most of the developmental policies of his predecessor especially the Visit Every Community (VEC) initiative which His Excellency has expanded by creating a full directorate with one of us as the head”.

The elated group, which has the immediate past Commissioners for Local Government Affairs (Hon. Barr. Okey Ani) and Rural Development (Hon. Dr. Eric Oluedo) as conveners, added that the governor has been ensuring prompt payment of workers’ salaries and retirees’ pensions “resulting in the payment of one extra full month salary to every Civil/Public Servant in Enugu State to celebrate the 2017 Christmas”.

The former members of the State Executive Council disclosed that Gov. Ugwuanyi’s administration has completed the Enugu State Diagnostic Centre and has also commenced the construction of 200-bed Igboano Specialist Hospital, Enugu, noting that “the initiation of the International Medical City Agu-Ekwegbe is very impressive”.

On peace and security, the forum commended Gov. Ugwuanyi for ensuring that “Enugu State continues to be ranked as the safest state in Nigeria as recently pronounced by the Inspector General of Police”.

They maintained that “the recent provision of Hilux Vans, equipped with sophisticated security gadgets is a proof that the life and security of every resident of Enugu State are the primary concern of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s administration”, stressing that “businesses are springing up simultaneously in the three senatorial districts of the state”.

The former cabinet members also applauded the governor for constructing five ultra-modern fire service stations across the three senatorial districts of the state, after 56 years, as well as the unprecedented employment of over 4000 primary and secondary school teachers.

On politics, the ex-Commissioners said: “Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has through his political sagacity brought stability in the polity of Enugu State and has gone ahead to reach out to other political parties other than his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in his firm belief that governance is about the people and not based only on political leanings”.

According to them, “the grant of N10 million to each of the 450 autonomous in Enugu State for the execution of projects that are dear to the hearts of their people and the immediate release of the sum of N5million as part of the grant, is in consonance with Governor Ugwuanyi’s development thrust”.

Foreign AffairsFormer New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg Considering A Run For President In by 9Ebiscoo(op): 6:17am On Sep 15, 2018
Michael Bloomberg appears to be focusing on 2020.

The former New York City mayor, best known for his liberal-Republican-turned-Independent stance, is reportedly planning to run for president in the next election.

Bloomberg, who also considered Independent runs for office in 2008, 2012, and 2016, will run as a Democrat in 2020 and challenge Donald Trump, The Times of London reports.

A source close to the British publication confirmed that the 76-year-old billionaire is allegedly making a run for the White House.

“Mike Bloomberg told me he is going to run in 2020,” the source told the newspaper. “He has the money to see it through while other candidates knock themselves out.”

Representatives for Michael Bloomberg did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

In a separate report by The New York Post, Bloomberg announced in June during a fundraiser that he would be returning to this polls, but this time, for the Oval Office.

“Before you leave I want to get your cell phone number,” he told attendees at the end of his speech, “because I’m thinking of getting the band back together.” His comment was well-received, reports the publication, as the audience applauded for the man who they believed was expressing interest in a presidential run.

In 2016, Bloomberg announced on his website that he would not move forward with his run for the presidency, claiming that “an independent candidacy would split the Electoral College and allow Congress to elect an extremist.”
Joe Raedle/Getty Images

Added the three-term mayor: “When I look at the data, it’s clear to me that if I entered the race, I could not win. I believe I could win a number of diverse states — but not enough to win the 270 Electoral College votes necessary to win the presidency.”

Following the announcement, Bloomberg remained closely tied to the election and showed support for Hillary Clinton during her campaign. At the Democratic convention in July 2016, Bloomberg poked fun at Trump’s The Apprentice background, claiming that this was “not reality television; it was reality,” The New York Post reported.

He went on to refer to President Trump as “a dangerous demagogue” and a “risky, reckless, and radical choice,” advising the audience to vote Clinton who he claimed was a “sane competent person with international experience.”

Although Bloomberg has vocally disagreed with the current president, a representative from Trump’s team reportedly admitted to the New York-based publication in August that the former mayor would pose the biggest threat for a re-election.

“If I were a Democrat strategist and somebody said to me, ‘Who do you want to be the Democrat nominee for president of the United States?’ there’s only one name I would choose and his name is Michael Bloomberg,” former Trump adviser Corey Lewandowski said.

“Mike Bloomberg created tens of thousands of jobs over the course of his lifetime,” he continued. “That is a story the American people like and he’s an outsider. I think it would be a very competitive race.”

Politics2019: Labour Party Rejects Mimiko’s Presidential Bid by 9Ebiscoo(op): 8:32am On Sep 14, 2018
Labour Party on Thursday rejected plan by a factional National chairman of the Labour Party, Abdulkadir Abdulsalam to adopt Olusegun Mimiko as the party’s presidential flag bearer for the 2019 general elections.

DAILY POST reports that Mimiko, a two-term governor of Ondo State, had on Thursday declared his intention to run for presidency on the platform of the Labour Party.

He had said, “I have found it compelling to declare my intention to run for president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

However, Mrs Ebere Ifendu, National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party reacting to the news, in a statement, warned Nigerians and political aspirants to disregard Mimiko’s announcement as its presidential candidate, since neither the national executive council nor the national convention were notified.

She further issued warning to other aspirants to desist from going against the constitution of the party and to disregard Alhaji A. A. Salam.

Her statement read “It has become necessary for the leadership of the Labour Party to draw the attention of the general public to the fraudulent collection of Expression of Interest and Nomination Form fees from innocent and unsuspecting political aspirants.

“That is for those who desire to contest various elective positions under the Labour Party through Alhaji A. A. Salam, the former national chairman of the party.

“It would be recalled that A. A. Salam was removed at the special national convention of the party held on 3rd October, 2017.

“This illegality was also confirmed by the Independent National Electoral Commission report, presented by the three INEC officials that were detailed to supervise its conduct.

“Credible information reaching us revealed that A. A. Salam concluded arrangements to pull a rented crowd to declare Olusegun Mimiko as the Labour Party’s Presidential Candidate.

“This illegal event in Abuja on Thursday, 13th September is a total violation of Article 27, section 1, subsection i and ii of the Labour Party’s constitution.

“Where the National Executive Council identifies a credible and nationally acceptable person, it shall nominate and present such a person for ratification only at the national convention as the party’s presidential candidate.

“The same rule applies to the nomination of a gubernatorial candidate in section 3, subsection i & ii, in the case of which the state Congress is saddled with the responsibility of pronouncing their gubernatorial candidate.

“All intending aspirants and candidates, willing to contest elections under Labour Party, should desist from dealing with A. A. Salam and Julius Abure on election matters. Those who make payments to them do so at their own risk.

“Consequently, the party hereby disowns and rejects Olusegun Mimiko as its presidential candidate, since neither the national executive council nor the national convention has been notified, as provided in the party’s constitution referred to above.

“Be informed also that a court contempt proceeding has been served on A. A. Salam and his gang leaders.

“Any attempt by them to convene an illegal NEC convention or any gathering of such similitude will amount to a court contempt and a total disregard for the rule of law.”

CelebritiesYvonne Jegede Blames Mobile Phones As Cause Of Celebrity Depression by 9Ebiscoo(op): 6:43pm On Sep 10, 2018
Actress Yvonne Jegede has expressed worries over the increasing number of entertainers battling depression. Recently, singer Harrysong, Samklef and rapper Wale all took to social media to reveal their battle with depression.

Reacting to the news, Yvonne Jegede attributed such depression to mobile phone addiction and the need to get validation on social media.

Posting via her IG page, Yvonne Jegede wrote:

”The other day I watched a documentary talking about the millennial have become a group of people that rely on their phones(which I find myself included), every minute looking for validation from people who are just mere illusions and figures. The reason why you have 1000 followers and only get 10likes and “maybe” 1comment.
We wake up to our phones and the last thing we touch is our phones. Now our lives are based on why didn’t I get enough likes like I did yesterday? Am I loosing my friends/fans? Don’t they like me anymore?
NB- THEY NEVER LIKED YOU. PERIOD. They followed you because they saw you on tv or heard your song on the radio and not because you carry Louis Vuitton bags, fly a private jet, the kind of house you live in nor the type of car you drive.

I’ve seen comments online about me being “broke” and “Yvonne shut up you don’t have shit” “Are you even a celebrity?” I don’t even flinch, because I will never post or write about my personal life online for nobody except it has to do with my work and it’s progress, whatever I do with my income or proceeds are none of anybody’s business. I’m not the strongest person online and I ain’t got nothing to prove either, especially your validation will not add value to me nor my bank account.

The more people put pressure on themselves trying to compete, trying by all means necessary to get one thing they cannot afford but they feel the need to because they feel that is what I need to do to get people to like me, then you endanger yourself and your self esteem.
Please everyone be careful out there, keep your phones away sometimes and spend time with your family and friends “the ones you can physically see” and don’t let the internet enslave you.

Leke, who is one of the frontiers of the label, also said, “I won’t lie, I listen to Fela’s music a lot and by my assessment, his works are one of the greatest compositions you ever find in the world. You cannot get bored with his works. So, Nigeria has produced great musicians with good music and I am hoping we leverage on this fact.”

He added, “Music is very important and it is beyond what is being pumped out to the society. It is beyond entertainment because it connects to the mind and has effect. This is why we are committed to support the gospel music industry, especially young talents from RCCG. Personally, I love rap music to a fault and I am happy we have a rap artiste under the label. I pray God will help us in achieving our dreams by supporting talents in producing works that will affect lives positively and win souls for the kingdom,”

“The past eight days have seen me go from one crisis to another owing to the injuries ( both internal and external ) that I sustained , but I offer all these painful moments to God as so many acts of love . By his grace , I am out of the critical phase ( sic ) , ” he posted.

Barguma told newsmen that the suspect approached him in his office with a fake EFCC identity card claiming to be from the Intelligence Unit of the commission.

“When I called the name of my brother working with the EFCC in Abuja and other names of EFCC officials I know, he said he didn’t know them.

PoliticsLots Of Soldiers Reportedly Killed As Boko Haram Attacks Military Base by 9Ebiscoo(op): 7:31pm On Sep 02, 2018
At least 30 soldiers have been killed, following an attack by Boko Haram insurgents on their military base. The insurgents, according to AFP, were said to have invaded the military base, located in the North-East, near the border Nigeria shares with Niger.

According to sources who spoke to AFP, the soldiers attacked the army establishment at Zari village, near the northern axis of Borno State, late on Thursday. The troops had to temporarily

withdraw their attacks, following the heavy fighting that took place. Another military source, who preferred not to be named, was quoted as saying: “they came in large numbers in trucks, carrying heavy weapons and engaged soldiers in a battle that lasted for an hour. We lost at least 30 men. They overwhelmed the troops, who were forced to temporarily withdraw before reinforcements arrived.”

Reinforcement, however, later arrived before some sense of normalcy was restored. While the fight lasted, the terrorists raided the army base, carting away weapons and other military equipment, before they were repelled by a fighter jet.

A military officer, speaking on the incident, said:-

“The terrorists also suffered heavy casualty from the bombardment.” According to one of the sources, the terrorists may have attacked from nearby Garunda village, where 17 soldiers were killed and 14 left injured in a similar attack, but on another military base, in August.

Meanwhile, a statement credited to the Nigerian Army on the incident, read:-

“Troops…have successfully routed Boko Haram insurgents in an encounter that ensued yesterday evening at Zari village.” There was no mention of soldiers being killed, but the army noted that “several Boko Haram fighters and weapons” were destroyed in the incident.

PoliticsFG Must Stop Unlawful Arrests, Detentions, Says Amnesty International by 9Ebiscoo(op): 6:28pm On Aug 30, 2018
Amnesty International on Thursday accused Nigeria’s government of carrying out unlawful arrests and practising “enforced disappearance” — detention without trial — to suppress dissent.

“The Nigerian government has used enforced disappearance as a longstanding tactic to silence critics and instil fear in civilian populations,” the rights watchdog said.

It said some detainees had been held incommunicado for up to nine years or more, without access to family or lawyers, and others have continued to languish in prisons despite court orders for their release.

Amnesty cited the case of journalist Abiri Jones, who it said had been detained by the Department of State Services (DSS) for two years without access to family or lawyers.

“At the beginning, the government denied detaining him, only to later release him following pressure from civil society organizations. It is unacceptable that many families are going through the same turmoil Abiri’s family went through,” said Osai Ojigho, head of Amnesty’s Nigeria section.

The rights group said people suspected of links to the Boko Haram jihadist group, Niger delta oil rebels and pro-Biafran activists had suffered a similar fate.

Amnesty asked the government to account for some 600 Shiite members of a pro-Iranian group called the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), allegedly held since deadly clashes with the military in December 2015.

“We call on the Nigerian government, as a matter of urgency, to end unlawful arrests and incommunicado detentions,” Ojigho said.

“Enforced disappearance is an instrument of intimidation that grossly violates human rights. It is unacceptable and must stop.”

On Tuesday, President Muhammadu Buhari drew the flak of opposition, civil society groups and lawyers for remarks on the rule of law.

Buhari, a former military dictator in the 1980s but who was elected in 2015 and is seeking re-election in February, said the “rule of law must be subject to the supremacy of the nation’s security and national interest.”

PoliticsNASS Would Have Been In Chaos, Democracy Gone If… — Jonathan by 9Ebiscoo(op): 6:21am On Aug 30, 2018
…Lauds Saraki’s leadership of NASS

By Henry Umoru

ABUJA— FORMER President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, said, yesterday, that with the current unfolding issues in the country, the National Assembly would have been in chaos but for the strong commitment and quality leadership style of Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki.

According to the former President, if the National Assembly is in tatters, the nation’s democracy, probably, would have been considered gone and forgotten.

Speaking, yesterday, in Abuja when Saraki paid him a visit in his Maitama residence, Jonathan commended the Senate President for the firm and progressive leadership he had provided for the National Assembly.

He stressed that the tremendous support being enjoyed by Saraki from lawmakers in both the Senate and the House of Representatives buttressed his leadership ability.

He said: “Senate President, let me use this opportunity to commend your leadership abilities. Looking at what is happening in the country, if not for your strong leadership, probably the National Assembly would have been in chaos and if the National Assembly is in tatters, then of course, democracy is gone.

“I am quite pleased with the kind of relationship you have with the House of Representatives members and how you have been able to hold the National Assembly together because on the day the parliament was invaded, though the target was the Senate, the House of Representatives members were as active as well, if not more active than senators and that cannot happen by chance.”

Earlier in his remarks, Saraki said his visit was to pay his respect to the ex-President and also inform him of his formal return to Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Saraki said the current realities in the country showed that all those who love the country must work together to return the country to the path of growth, fairness, equity and justice.

CrimeShock Report! Popular Prophet Beheads Lover For Money Rituals [full Details/phot by 9Ebiscoo(op): 9:12pm On Aug 29, 2018
Two-self acclaimed prophets, who allegedly conspired to kill a woman and mutilated her body for ritual purpose, have been apprehended by men of the Ogun State Police Command.

The suspects, Olusola Akindele, of no fixed church, and Ayodele Bamiduro of the Lion of Judah Church of Christ, 13, Robiyan Avenue, Robiyan, near Ijoko, were nabbed following a technical intelligence-based investigation on the dastardly killing.

Crimepuzzle gathered that the 40-year old victim, simply identified as Iya Aanu, had on July 30, 2018, visited Olusola, who she had been dating for two years, in his Assess Road residence at Mosefejo.

After making love, and the lady relaxing, the wicked lover manifested his beastly nature and smashed Iya Aanu’s head with a pestle-like wood, dragged her to a room within the apartment, where she struggled effortlessly for survival but was later overrun by her assailant lover, after which she lost the battle.

Olusola, investigation revealed, once again, dragged her lifeless body to the bathroom and severed her head and hands, and later dumped the remains in an uncompleted building behind his residence.

The assailant, Crimepuzzle further gathered, took the severed head and hands to his accoplices’ Lion of Judah Church of Christ on 13, Robiyan Avenue, where he buried them.

The ugly incident, which attracted the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Iliyasu Ahmed and some of his principal officers to the community, was greeted with mammoth crowd who came to catch a glimpse of the ritual murderers.

Disclosing how the suspects were arrested, CP Iliyasu, at a press conference held at the scene of crime at Mosefejo, this afternoon, who described the incident as a very sympathetic case of conspiracy and ritual murder by so-called men of God, stated that on August 10, 2018, a complaint was lodged at the Agbado Police Divisional Headquarters by the Baale of Igbore Robiyan to the effect that a headless, decomposition body of a woman was found in an uncompleted building within the community.

According to the police boss, “upon the report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Agbado, CSP Olatunji Omonijo, was given a matching order by myself to unravel the mystery behind the killing and fish out the perpetrators of heinous crime within shortest possible time

“In compliance with the directives given to him, the DPO went on a technical intelligence-based investigation and succeeded in arresting one Olusola Akindele, 42 and Ayodele Bamiduro, 42.

“On interrogation, Olusola Akindele, who claimed to be a prophet in a church, confessed that the victim was his woman friend, who he simply identified as Iya Aanu. He stated further that they had been dating and hibernating for two years. On the fateful day, the deceased came to visit him, as usual, and after they made love, and the woman was relaxing, the so-called prophet surreptitiously brought out a very big clog that looked like a pestle with which he smashed the woman’s head”, the CP narrated.

The police boss added that, Olusola later cut off the head and hands of the unfortunate woman before throwing her remains in an uncompleted building behind his house.

He said, “The severed head and hands of the victim were buried at the back of Lion of Judah Church of Christ, situated in another area within this vicinity at 13, Robiyan Avenue, belonging to Ayodele Bamiduro”

Describing the incident as the highest peak of wickedness, barbaric and man inhumanity to man, CP Iliyasu assured the public that on completion of forensic investigation, the suspects would be made to face the full wrath of the law by being arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction, even as he advised the public to be discretional with whom they associate and always notify one person, at least, wherever they were going, to ensure their security and safety.

The CP also charged the general public to always be vigilant and mindful of happenings around them and those they associate with, while seeking their continued support for the police by availing them with information that would help to nip crime in the bud.

Politics2019: APC Accuses Gov. Wike Of Extorting From Students In Rivers To Fund Electio by 9Ebiscoo(op): 6:39pm On Aug 28, 2018
The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has accused the Governor of the State, Nyesom Wike, of plotting to levy students of all tertiary institutions in the state with various sums of money.

The party said the Governor was trying to achieve this through the heads of such institutions to support the 2019 campaigns of the governor.

This claim was made by the State Chairman of the APC, Hon. Ojukaye Flag-Amachree in a statement forwarded to DAILY POST
by the state Publicity Secretary, Chris Finebone.

Flag-Amachre said that the scheme had already commenced by the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, IAUE, Rumuolumeni, Port Harcourt in a circular by the school authorities requesting each student of the institution to pay a dubious entrepreneurship training levy of N20,000.

The statement added, “The collection of this fee of N20,000 is part of a grand design by Gov. Wike to use the heads of tertiary institutions in Rivers State to raise funds through sundry levies to support the governor’s 2019 campaigns. Already, students of IAUE have been served a circular to that effect.

“The plan includes levying each student to submit their typed projects with a payment of N20,000 each for the binding of such projects. You can imagine how callous this governor can be,” Ojukaye declared.

Speaking further, the APC State Chairman wondered why the governor should compound the problems of students and their parents in Rivers State when families are going through rough time to survive.

“In most other states in Nigeria, governors are alleviating the burden on students and their parents through scholarships and bursaries but here in Rivers State Gov. Wike is heartlessly inflicting pains and anguish on students and their parents.

“It is disheartening how we got to this sorry pass. Elsewhere, caring governors in many states are paying students bursaries and awarding scholarships just to lessen the burden on students and their parents. But here, Gov. Wike withdrew young men and women the previous administration placed on foreign scholarships and now he is levying students in local institutions in the State to raise money for his 2019 political campaigns. This is wickedness at its highest level.

“Most saddening is that this whole thing is happening at a time the Economic & Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has uncovered fraudulent withdrawals of over N117bn of our money by Gov. Nyesom Wike since he assumed office in 2015 with no explanation or purpose.

The APC State Chairman called on students and parents to resist the various suspect levies tertiary institutions are demanding from them as such spurious levies were meant to fund the insatiable lust for money by Gov. Wike.

“Let me appeal to our students and their parents not to succumb to the fraudulent levies Wike is using heads of tertiary institutions to request from students.

“Students and parents should vehemently reject the levies; they should refuse to pay those illegal levies as they are only meant to fund Wike’s 2019 campaigns.”
