My firm seeks to purchase a 2001/2002 ford f150. After scouting with my oga around carlots in town, i decided to bring the search to nairaand. The vehicle we seek should prefarably look like the one in the picture and must be in lagos. Our budget is between 1M - 1.5M. Any dealer with such a ride should please post pictures and location, for my oga's initial appraisal and subsequent inspection.

Thanks to everyone for all the comments so far?, i am indeed very grateful. Its a pity that i had to start this thread dis late, until about a month ago, i never believed i would be able to even go abroad not to even talk about going for my masters. So when the opportunity came, uk schools just seemed like d way to go. I had an offer last year from a more prestigious uk school for an llm in petroleum law, but @ 16,000 pounds for just the tuition, i had to forgo it since it could not fit into the budget, hence my choice of RGU. My sponsors are days away from paying my fees deposit, and thus i still have 2-3 days to put all the plans on hold. the comments of shushu relating to the standard of education have merely echoed the advice of 2 close pals of mine who are in a similar condition as i am. But if i am to tell my sponsors that i am backing out of going to the uk without giving them an alternative option, i could be perceived as being a sissy who is scared of the unknown and is developing coldfeet, and dis could hamper the possibility of them wanting to render any assistance to me in future despite the fact that they are family. There is a fixed amount set aside for my purpose and i dont see dat amount increasing in the near future, i checked out the university of calgary in canada, and discovered that their llm degree in energy law is for a 2 year duration, what do i do if after a year all the money set aside for my living expenses runs out ![]() US schools , all energy law llms are 30,000 dollars and above add dat to living expenses of say about 13,000 dollars for one year and dat is about 6.9 million naira when u convert it( and i dont have up to dat amount), and in any case i cant resume at any until sept. next year. The whole thing has just been very fustrating for me, so i guess if i have to sppend 4plus million and wont get value for money, then its best that i just stay back and hope that "opportunity will come more than once for me" and hopefully that time it would have increased to 7 million naira ??All the above may seem like rambling to you guyz (i guess it is), so please forgive me for that, but the point i am trying to drive home is that i am hoping that in three days i can get someone who will be able to direct me to a school that fits within my budget but were i would still get value for my money. I dont want to throw away this chance but at the same time dont want to go and waste my time and huge resources. THANKS. |

violent:very wonderful suggesstions, I can assure you that there are many lawyers that are interested in personal injury claims, the fact that you dont read about all of them in the papers doesn't mean they dont exist. Its however unfortunate that our justice system is so sluggish that you discover that some of this cases have not ended 3-4 years after the suit was filed, then factor in the fact that u mght not be called to argue your case before the court of appeal a whole year after the appeal was filed, should give you a fair idea of how frustrating for both lawyers and litigants our court system can be. I know a lot of lawyers who unfortunately believe in sueing first and then asking questions later so trust me when i say there are many lawyers who are looking for the next victim to represent, but 3-4 years down the line, most litigants are frustrated and end up opting out of the suitsand deciding to seek justice from God. But we all have our areas of interest, the era of lawyers being jack of all trade has passed and specialization in the legal profession is fast gaining ground, thus while some lawyers may be interested in personal injury claims or fundamental human rights enforcement, some are interested in commercial law, some divorce etc. At the end of the day, it comes down to the area of interest of the individual lawyer. While i want to get "PAID", i think having a job in an area that you love or have an interest is more important, I have discovered that i enjoy briefs of a corporate & commercial nature and of recent developed a knack to no more about the laws that govern the exploitation of our country's natural resource hence my choice of an llm in oil and gas law. |
Jarus:Jarus thanks for the advice, did not know the above abt wale tinubu and co. violent:My initial plan is to work in the oil and gas industry and then return to law practice after some years. I believe, though without proof that, that the services of an oil and gas lawyer will be required in E&P firms, oil services companies, and also law firms that handle briefs on behalf of these firms. Though i must confess that i am not sure if such services are desperately required. I am being sponsored by family, i dont have such funds Just a little under two years experience as a lawyer I must confess that i have no links that i can leverage, as you pointed out if i had any such links i would have used them to secure a plum job. i have not considered a collaboration of such as regards the oil industry, i believe that to do such one needs to have at least an average knowledge of the workings of the oil and gas industry, anoda reason that prompted my decision to apply for the course. In all honesty, i had considered setting up shop with a couple of friends but i must confess that as weird as it sounds its easier to get money to go abroad to study than to be entrusted with even 1/3 of such funds to start ur own practice. |
yamakuza:thanks for the advice. That accomodation one be like war ooo, so many choices but high prices, was hoping to get something that costs less that 50 pounds per week. Which is why i asked in the hope that someone who is in aberdeen or had studied there in the recent past mite have some useful first hand info, will kip on searching. |
Dis Guy:funny thing is i do not know any lawyer that works in the oil and gas sector, my interest stems from my disgust at the mismanagment of our country's oil and gas resource. |
Also can the mod please oblige my thread a space on the front page so that i can get as many comments as possible, i have just some days before i take my final decision ![]() |
Hi guyz, i wish to ask for your sincere and constructive advice I just got an offer to study for an llm in oil and gas law at robert gordon university aberdeen scotland. So my question which i hope the house most especially lawyers in the oil and gas industry is "how easy is it to get financially rewarding jobs, having an llm in oil and gas law in general on one part and on the other part from robert gordon university in particular)" Anoda question is are there other countries where i could get a masters in oil and gas/energy law apart from the uk at a reduced rate, i checked some US schools that offer an llm in energy law but their fees plus living expenses for one year comes to about 6.8 million naira upwards whereas that of the Robert Gordon University is just a little above 4 million. ( many people have said i should not waste so much money going to the uk since in their opinion , the uk has nothing to offer international students in terms of gaining an international working experience since the new law in the uk is to the effect that you can no longer look for jobs upon completion of your studies but have to return to ur home country immediately you are thru.) but i contend that the uk is still cheap in comparison to the US that everyone advises i go. Anoda option is going to canada, but the course over there is for a duration of 2 years and considering that i am not getting any younger and my very limited finances is not a wise option. what do you guys think or suggest. BTW i currently work in a law firm (not an oil and gas specialty law firm) that pays 37k a month. Also is anybody going to aberdeen this september, have you gotten accommodation ?, if i accept rgu's offer i intend to get off campus lodgings since that of the school cant fit into my tight budget. |
oludunamis:i agree that the uk oil industry is diminishing but i ask of you, where else can one go to study as in my case an llm in oil and gas law for £8544. glowithdan:i have researched the us, did not find many schools with an llm in oil and gas/ energy law, and those i found are way more expensive than uk schools. As someone on a very very tight budget what do you advice i do. |
hi guyz, i just got an offer to study at robert gordon university, aberdeen scotland for a postgraduate course, can i get any advice as to how best to get cheap accommodation and any oda lifestyle tips that could substantially reduce my living expense cost. |

Here in Yola south LG, there are no ballot papers as I speak, so we are just waiting in our various wards waiting. No accreditation has also started @ all. And an official I called said the elections might be postponed to tomorrow. Really hope say na joke sha. |
Hmm !!!, where do I start from sef. To the guy complaining about corpers collecting 10 grand, : here in adamawa, some of the corpers have collectected 10k and they were told that it's 1/3 of their 30k allawee for the exercise. Were I hv a problem is with d̶̲̥̅̊ 1k daily feeding allowance, while in some LG's they are getting it, in some others they are being paid a reduced 800 naira, and some oda's have not collected feeding allawee for one day. As to those arguing as to weda an OS was developed for INEC, let me assure you that an OS was indeed developed for INEC. But dats anoda story, the real headache is that the OS is so basic and has a lot of bugs that need fixing, that was the reason for them updating the software first from ver. 1.2 to ver 1.4 then to the scanner problem solving 1.8. I am actually a member of the technical support team, that is moving from centre to centre upgrading this systems, and trust me those scanners just start responding, some of my fellow corp members just begin to look at me like one bad ass tech genius(I'm a lawyer) *big smile* (as to why I am on tech support for INEC, na anoda long tori),but seriously in all the seven villages I visited yesterday only one of the scanners did not respond to d̶̲̥̅̊ upgrade, but that one was already physically mutilated. However, news reaching me from other places is that while version 1.8 fixes the scanner, it is also crashing a lot of systems so trust me when I tell you anoda upgrade is on the way. As to the quality of the systems : I hope ppl don't take dis d̶̲̥̅̊ wrong way, but the best and fastest of the three is the one by Avante, those by zinox and haier are way slower in responding, are prone to shutting down without warning or just packing all togeda. Which brings me to the way d̶̲̥̅̊ systems are being handled by corp members, a lot are just too impatient with the systems, they send to many commands at once, or the same command repeatedly just because it did not respond totheir earlier command. My simple advice is to be patient wit the systems, they are damn slow so if U̶̲̥̅̊'re not careful, it will shutdown or restart. Also avoid using the scanner in direct sunlight, it will malfunction, prefarably set in a room or atleast under a well shaded area, tree, canopy etc. As a general comment, while the ddc machines have loads of problems of their own, some oda problems faced by their operators is caused due to lack of basic computer, which is not really their fault but a reflection of the nigerian problem, I was meant to be an ARO 1 but I am now on tech support and what I am using to do my job is just basic common sense and my experience as a computer owner for the past seven years or so, and I don't mean to brag but I do a good job. Everyone wants to know which company I work for, I just smile and say nothing, how do I tell dis guyz I am a lawyer and a corper like dem whose only mandate is to update the OPENVR OS and leave and yet I am solving some oda so called problems which are not really problems if U̶̲̥̅̊ knew what to do in d̶̲̥̅̊ first place. What I am trying to deduce is that it is hightime our government paid more than lipservice to the issue of computer literacy in this country. You want your youths to carry out a computer based registration process but you neva taught them how to use one until a week to the exercise and you think all will be well ![]() HELL NO !!!! |
The process here in adamawa leaves much to be desired, from non-availability of machines to oda issues like d̶̲̥̅̊ inconclusive training of corpers meant to carry out d̶̲̥̅̊ process and the almighty faulty fingerprint scanner. Corpers also have to contend with the disorganization @ INEC which has caused a lot of them travelling to far off local govt's only to be told that by the resident electoral officer that he has no record of them being posted there, thus they have to return to yola to receive further instructions (I am a victim). The EO's are also using indigenes in place of corpers so that they can get a share of their salaries. I saw yesterday a polling unit where the ARO 1 who is incharge of the ddc machine is stark illiterate wit no knowledge of hw to use a computer and as I speak there are corpers in that LG who have not been posted anywhere, but the EO still insists on not using them. As I write this I am inside the INEC HQ in yola and about 200 ddc machines are just arriving from God knowswhere, but my point is why are they just getting here 2 days after they should have been put to use. Wanted to take a pic but to many guys wit guns around so I took the pic U̶̲̥̅̊ see codedly but I think the new cartons stacked on top of each oda are obvious. The empty cartons U̶̲̥̅̊ see hv just been opened and d̶̲̥̅̊ briefcase with d̶̲̥̅̊ ddc machine inside removed. |
