Reflecting on the New Minimum Wage of N70,000 and the Current Fuel Price Hike

The recent implementation of the N70,000 minimum wage in Nigeria requires careful consideration, especially given the current fuel price hike. Remember, the President had even proposed raising the minimum wage to N500,000, contingent upon increasing fuel prices, to balance the economic impact of higher wages.

Just imagine you work at a local store where your boss decides to give everyone a big raise to N50,000. This sounds great, but then, due to rising costs of running the store, the prices of everything in the store also go up. For example, if the store has to pay more for delivery trucks and others, they might increase the prices of groceries and other items.

Imagine you’re a farmer who decides to pay your workers more, lets assume N7,000 a day instead of N3,000 as usual. This is great for the workers, but you also need to buy more fertilizer for your crops. If the cost of fertilizer goes up, you might need to increase the price of your crops to cover these higher expenses.

So, even though your workers are earning more, they might find that the prices of the food they buy from you are higher because of the increased cost of producing it. As a result, the benefit of their higher wages is diminished because they end up spending more on food.

In a similar way, increasing wages in the broader economy can lead to higher costs of goods and services if fuel prices rise, which can offset the benefits of the wage increase.

As we move forward, we pray that the Dangote Refinery, recently inaugurated, will help stabilize fuel prices and reduce dependency on imports. May this refinery be a shining example of progress and contribute to Nigeria's economic stability.

BRIEF BIOGRAPHY OF HON. ASHAFA MUHAMMAD JABAKA

Hon. Ashafa Muhammad Jabaka is a youthful Nigerian politician happily married with kids.

Born into the family of Mal. Muhammad Jabaka, he started his early life at Agwarege Secondary School and Talata Mafara primary School for his primary and post primary education before proceeding to University of Sokoto where he obtained his first degree in Pure Chemistry. He hails from Zamfara State.

Hon. Ashafa is the founder and CEO of Ashafa Foundation, he is also the National Youth Campaign Coordinator for Governor Yahaya Bello's Presidential Aspiration. He is also a business mogul running in different sects of business identities.

Hon. Ashafa foray into politics started a long time after completing his service in Abuja, where he joined youthful organizations, served and worked with associates in different political run. Hon. Mohammed Usman Kawu was born on the 6th of November, 1987 in Niteco, Tudun Wada South in Chanchaga Local Government of Niger State. He's a grandson to Alh. Usman Baba Giwa and a son of Mohammed Usman Maude (Chaska).

He joined politics around 2005 with a political party of PDP which he later decamped to Apc where he became Member of APC solidarity Youth vanguard, also a member of Lead Generation Initiative, served as State Coordinator of PAN Africa United Development, member of Youth Frontier Network, member of Nigeria Red Cross and also a member of EFCC/NYSC club. Hon. Usman Mohammed Kawu served APC at the grassroot as the Youth Leader of his polling unit.

It is worthy of note that over the past 20years, he has become a major player in Niger State political terrain. Hon. Kawu's political dexterity has always endeared him to men of goodwill.
