A young woman was stunned when she ordered meat pie at a fast-food restaurant and got a 'surprise' package. Maybe due to the ongoing economic recession in the country or to sheer wickedness, some Nigerians have taken to 'surprising' consumers with 'unexpected' results when they make purchases. Recently, a young man ordered fish pie and saw boiled beans inside and of course NO FISH. Now another social media has shared her experience with food bought from a public place. According to her, her friend had ordered meat pie from a fast-food joint in Abuja, but was surprised when she found cooked noodles instead. https://gossip.naij.com/1094135-lady-orders-meat-pie-sees-noodles-instead.html See the picture below:

Nigerian Music icon, Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2face, has donated N3.5 million to the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) to support humanitarian interventions. The commission disclosed this in a statement by Mr Hanson Tamfu, External Relations Officer, UNHCR, Nigeria, on Monday in Abuja. He said the donation from the 2face Foundation was to support the commission in providing life-saving support to families forcibly displaced in Nigeria and across the continent. Tamfu said that Tuface expressed joy and commitment to helping the victims of insurgency who have been forced to flee their homes as a result of the unrest in the North-East. He said the musician also pledged his continuous support to UNHCR in its humanitarian assistance to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and other persons. The officer quoted Tuface as saying, “I am proud to support the UN Refugee Agency because of its proven track record of being at the fore front of displacement emergencies. “ I want to help people who have been forced to flee their homes because of different issues. “ I care about them and this donation is one of such efforts because we plan to have a major charity concert in June to raise money whilst offering my music and talents to the world for donations towards this noble cause. “I am confident in UNHCR because it knows how to make a difference in the lives of millions of women, children and men who have lost everything but hope,“ Tuface said. Tamfu said that UNHCR is almost entirely supported by donations from governments, who contribute 89 per cent of its annual funding needs. He disclosed that UNHCR and its partners require USD2.45 billion to provide critical life-saving assistance to the displaced families in Africa. He said that funds were required to meet the enormous needs of displaced persons with the number of the world’s displacement at more than 63.9 million. The officer explained that this was also due to an unprecedented level of over 19.4million of those living in Sub-Saharan Africa, the needs are enormous. Mr Valentin Tapsoba, UNHCR’s Director of the Africa Bureau, appreciated Tuface for his generosity and contribution to UNHCR’s cause. Tapsoba said that having someone of Tuface’s calibre who recognises the needs of the people who have been forced to flee their homes was extremely encouraging. He said that it was a clear step in the direction of an Africa that takes ownership of its own challenges and strives to address them. Tapsoba said that as a musician, who has been singing for over two decades, his campaign would cut across all generations and make an impact. The Bureau Chief said that in Nigeria, the UN Refugee Agency responds to the needs of the more than 1.8 million displaced. He explained that since the needs were overwhelming, the agency has turned to Africa’s philanthropic world to meet some of the funding gaps, which are worrisome and huge. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the donation from Tuface, founder of the 2face foundation, is to kick-start UNHCR’s first ever fundraising campaign in Nigeria. www.jamienaija.com/2017/02/2face-idibia-donates-n35m-to-unhcr.html?m=1

Prof. Francis Otunta, the Vice Chancellor (VC), Michael
Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, in Abia,
has confirmed the discovery of a new drug for the
treatment and cure of HIV/AIDS. Otunta said the finding followed years of scientific research by the institution. He said that the breakthrough was made by Prof. Maduike Ezeibe, a researcher in the university. According to him, Ezeibe had presented the drug to the University management, Senate and Council, where he explained the processes he went through to arrive at his finding. The VC also said that Ezeibe had equally presented the drug to his colleagues in the medical field and nobody had contradicted his finding. “Prof. Ezeibe is a researcher in Veterinary Medicine and one may wonder how he discovered a drug to cure a human ailment,” he said. Otunta said that the university was in the process of mass producing the drug for further clinical trials on persons living with HIV/AIDS in the country. Ezeibe, who is a professor of Veterinary Medicine and Clinical Virology, said that the drug was produced with Aluminum Silicate and Magnesium Silicate (Synthetic Aluminum-Magnesium Silicate). He said the medicine could be a major foreign exchange earner for Nigeria, if approved by relevant authorities. Ezeibe said that he presented the research findings to the World Virology Conference in Atlanta in 2015, and Antonio (Texas) in 2016. He said that he was also about to sign a memorandum of understanding with a U.S.-based Scientific Research Publishing, publishers of World Journal of AIDS, for the publication of his book “How I came about the cure for HIV/AIDS”. Ezeibe, who said that the medicine was patented in August 2014 in Nigeria, called on the FG to help him to secure international patency for the drug. He said: “If commercialised, the Medicinal Synthetic Aluminum-Magnesium Silicate would become an alternative for petroleum to the Nigerian economy.” www.jamienaija.com/2017/02/nigerian-professor-discovers-cure-to.html?m=1 |

The All-Nigeria Conference of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS) says it has embarked on sensitisation of its members on handling security challenges in view the rising spate of school-targeted kidnappings. Mrs Omotunde Lawson, President, Lagos State Chapter of ANCOPSS, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that the sensitisation focused on how schools could secure their environment. ANCOPSS president spoke against the backdrop of the recent spate of the abduction of students and staff in some schools in Lagos and Ogun States. She advised school principals to clear overgrown weeds in their premises to prevent kidnappers from using such bushy environment for their nefarious operations. “We are also sensitising our members on how to comport ourselves in times of danger. “Schools with bushes are to clear them while security guards should ensure that no one goes into the school compound or comes out without signing,’’ she said. Lawson said that the Lagos State Government had pledged to recruit 5,000 neighbourhood watchmen who would also help in securing public schools. The ANCOPSS president, however, urged both staff and students to be vigilant and report potential security and safety threats around schools to law enforcement agents. |
