Sports / Agents Are Set To Unite Barcelona Star And Ronaldo At Juventus by Abasyho: 9:10pm On Jul 12, 2020
Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo could play on the same team for the first time in history

- Barcelona legend Rivaldo believes agents are looking to persuade the Argentine to join his rival at Juventus

- It is understood Messi could walk out on Barcelona when his contract expires at the end of the season

Lionel Messi could be making a sensational move to join his long time rival Cristiano Ronaldo, according to Rivaldo.

The 2002 World Cup winner believes agents are planning to make the biggest transfer in footballing history come to pass.

Messi has reportedly been unhappy at Barcelona and is set to leave at the club end at the end of the season.

And Rivaldo claims agents are ready to make the Argentine forward's next stop Juventus, where he would feature along with old-time rival Ronaldo.

According to Spanish radio station, Messi would see out his £500,000-per-week contract at the club before moving on next summer.

Rivaldo told Betfair: "With all this speculation, I believe that some agents are already dreaming about a Messi-Ronaldo double at Juventus and how big it will be around the globe.

"If that happened there would be a world "boom", and I believe Juventus would quickly recover any investment on the Argentinian thanks to the boost they would get from visibility and marketing.

"It would be historical to see both playing together and I'm sure many Juve sponsors would love to help financially, so, it's also a possibility for Messi.

"If there are rumours about his exit, then of course every club will be thinking about how they can sign him.

"That said, the two best players in the world for the past ten years playing at the same club would be massive.

"If he is considering leaving the club, then something mustn't be good in the Barcelona dressing room and perhaps he is tired with all the constant problems that have surrounded the club in the last few months."

Messi has also been linked with a move to Manchester City to be reunited with his old boss Pep Guardiola.

It is understood that Messi claimed that he would only remain at the Camp Nou if his former teammate Xavi Hernandez is brought in to the fold.

But Xavi recently signed a new deal with his Qatari club Al Sadd after helping them win a couple of trophies in the past few years.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Lionel Messi was not on the scores sheet for Barcelona in their 1-0 win over Real Valladolid at the Estadio Jose Zorrilla this weekend.

But the Argentine forward still managed to achieve another feat as he became the first player in the history of the Spanish League to score 20 and assist 20 goals in one season.

The 33-year-old created an assist that helped Chilean midfielder Arturo Vidal score the only goal that separated the two sides after regulation period.

Health / COVID-19: 17 Banks Seek CBN Approval To Restructure 32,000 Loans by Abasyho: 6:29pm On Jun 26, 2020
In apparent reflection of the severe impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the economy, 17 banks have written to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) for permission to restructure 32,000 loans granted to individuals and businesses.
The said loans, amounting to several billions of Naira, are going bad.
Deputy Governor, Financial System Surveillance, CBN, Aisha Ahmed, disclosed this in her personal statement at the last Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting.
Stressing the need for the apex bank to grant forbearance to banks to temporarily restructure loans of businesses and individuals as a way of mitigating the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the banking system, Ahmed said: “Even as the CBN monitors the potential risks to financial stability, it is gratifying that financial soundness indicators have remained strong, despite the headwinds and rapid expansion of credit (gross credit increased by N3.0 trillion between end-May 2019 and end-April 2020) driven by the Loan to Deposit Ratio (LDR) policy.

Non-performing loans (NPLs) ratio stood at 6.6 per cent at end April 2020, compared with 11.0 per cent at end April 2019, while other prudential ratios remain robust.
“This resilience notwithstanding, the industry remains exposed to shocks from spillover effects of the pandemic on macroeconomic conditions. This underscores the importance of regulatory measures to mitigate the effects of the crisis, such as granting forbearance to banks to temporarily restructure loans for businesses and households most affected by Covid-19 and the Global Standing Instruction policy to limit NPLs.
“As at end-May 2020, staff reports indicate that 17 banks submitted requests to restructure over 32 thousand loans for individuals and businesses impacted by the pandemic, representing 32.94 per cent of total industry loan portfolio, with the manufacturing and general commerce sectors constituting the bulk of the restructured facilities. Results from ongoing impact assessment of Covid-19 effects on impairment by banks, indicate modest impact given regulatory policy measures already implemented. These, coupled with close monitoring by authorities and enhanced risk management practices by financial institutions, would help to mitigate the emerging risks and preserve financial system stability.”
Events / 120 Compete For Mr, Miss Nigeria International by Abasyho: 6:23pm On Jun 26, 2020
Nigerian FlagA total of 120 contestants is jostling for the 2020 Mr and Miss Nigeria International (MMNI) as contestants from 10 countries compete for Mr and Miss International Africa (MMIA).
The organisers, Brendance and Crusader Ltd. (BCL), gave the figures in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Thursday.
Bredan Nsikak, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of BCL, told NAN that the registration for the competitions, extended from May 31, ended on Thursday (June 25).
Nsikak said that the 120 contestants would participate in the audition for the MMNI contest tagged: “Rebirth Edition 2020”.
He noted that 2020 MMNI audition had more entries than the last edition which recorded 110 entries and produced Denis Idara and Peter Abah as the 2019/2020 MMNI.
“The registration for the two pegeants, which had been on and was extended, has ended today, and 120 contestants met the requirement for the MMNI audition restricted to Nigerians, and we have confirmed them.
“We will be having contestants from 10 African countries for the MMIA pegeant which the current MMNI King and Queen will be representing our country,” he said.
The CEO attributed the increase in the number of contestants for MMNI to the COVID-19-induced restrictions which, he said, made more people to have time for the contest.
He added that no fewer than 25 aspiring contestants were disqualified due to age falsification, as the age limit was pegged at minimum of 18 years and maximum of 28 years.
According to him, the audition to begin on July 1, would be virtual since social distancing is still bein observed across the country.
“More contestants turned out this year, most likely because of the lockdown as they have more time; we screened out the overage and underage.
“Coronavirus is spreading; this is the reason we are going virtual for the audition starting next week, although there might be direct audition,” he said.
According to him, the grand finale is billed for October at the Muson Center, Lagos State, after auditions in Lagos, Abuja, Ibadan, Imo and Benue which would hold in batches.
He gave the participating countries for the MMIA to include Ghana, Ivory Coast, Uganda, Zambia, South Africa, Sudan, Tanzania, Cameroun and host, Nigeria. (NAN)
Politics / Threat By Sacked NWC To Go To Court, Mere Media Creation ― APC Govs Forum by Abasyho: 6:15pm On Jun 26, 2020
Chairman of the PGF and Governor of Kebbi State, Atiku Bagudu
By Johnbosco Agbakwuru – Abuja
Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, on Friday said that the alleged threat by some members of the dissolved National Working Committee, NWC, of the party to challenge their dissolution in court was a mere media creation.
The APC Governors operating under the umbrella of Progressive Governors Forum, PGF, also said that the proposals made by President Muhammadu Buhari for the dissolution of the rancorous NWC has reduced distraction for the President.
Speaking to State House correspondents, after meeting with the President, Chairman of the PGF and Governor of Kebbi State, Atiku Bagudu, explained that they were at the State House for a ‘thank you’ visit to appreciate what President Buhari has been doing for the progressive family.
He also said that the delegation was at the seat of power to introduce the Chairman of Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee, Mai Mala Buni to the President.
The PGF Chairman said that the President at the Emergency NEC demonstrated to everyone in the country that he will never sacrifice due process for expediency.
Asked why the delegation was at the State House, he said, “This is a thank you visit to Mr President. I have in the delegation the brand new Chairman of the All Progressives Congress Caretaker and Extraordinary National Convention Planning Committee, the Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum, member of the Caretaker and Extraordinary National Convention Committee, representing the North-Central, His Excellency, Alhaji Abubakar Bello, the Kogi State governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello and myself.
“We thanked Mr President for all he has been doing for the Progressive family, which culminated in the visionary and momentous resolution of party disputes that took place yesterday (Thursday). Testimonials, news, commentaries, media from across the country are all happy for what has been done yesterday (Thursday).

“Equally, to appreciate all the gains that had been made under his capable, brilliant and visionary leadership. Our country is more food secured, the economy, though challenged by the Coronavirus pandemic and recovering from the 2016 recession, is doing better than most countries in similar situation.
“Accountability has increased tremendously, we are hearing of security gains on daily basis in all parts of the country and those are what Mr. President campaigned upon. Nigeria has one of the most robust responses to the Coronavirus pandemic, all because of his thoughtful imaginative and patriotic leadership.
“At the same time, we are here to introduce, yet again, the Chairman of our Caretaker and Extraordinary National Convention Planning Committee, who is a very seasoned administrator and politician, the governor of Yobe State, His Excellency, Mai Mala Buni, and to thank him on behalf of the Progressive Governors’ Forum for deeming it fit to include three governors in the committee: the Chairman, governor of Niger State and the governor of Osun State; Gboyega Isiaka Oyetola.”

Fielding question on how the delegation was received by the President, he said, “He is happy that at last, we have one less distraction because Mr President is conscious of the mandate given to him by Nigerians. And even though he bothers a lot about his party, what dominates his daily action are economy, security, transparency, and the progress of Nigeria. So he’s very happy.”
On the allegation that some members of the sacked NWC were contemplating to approach the court to challenge the dissolution of the executive committee, he said that it was a mere media creation as there was no such plan to drag the party to court.
He said, “Media says a lot of things, but Mr. President is very clear that he received due legal advice and remember, before the 2019 primaries, Mr. President demonstrated to everyone in this country that he will never sacrifice due process for expediency.
“Even when it was convenient to extend tenure of the then executive so that we don’t have a convention and primary at the same time, Mr President said no, no matter how tough it is, we are going to do the correct legal thing.
“So, Mr. President will never do anything which the constitutional provisions of party, talk less of the country, does not allow him to do.”
Members of the delegation were Chairman of the PGF, Bagudu, Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum, NGF, Kayode Fayemi, Chairman of the Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee, Mai Mala Buni, a member of the Caretaker Committee and Governor of Niger State, Abubakar Bello and the Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello.
