Appleyard: The lootings is wrong, burning the church is wrong. But the point is, much of this could have been averted if the presidency has been all over the place condemning the gruesome act, appealing to the people and speeding up the prosecution process so people's minds can come down a little bit. But sadly, none of this happened.
Calling and speaking with the family of the dead is a step in the right direction, but is not enough. It isn't Floyd's family that's protesting in the street now.
Address the nation, promise changes, and because human beings are the same everywhere, I tell you, many of the people making up the rioters will step on the gasket and a sizable portion of the riot will stop. Before you know it, the riot will die a natural death.
Unfortunately, some blind folks here think Trump don't need to address and plead with the rioters because to them, all of them are Antifas, thugs, and worthy to be shot. That's how you know a crazy fanatic.
I can't believe that someone in this thread could open his mouth to say if the president calls for the prosecution of the cops involved, he would be usurping the powers of the court. Can you imagine?.

If my memory is right, Buhari was in DC last summer and he met with Trump in the White House and he was very complimentary to Buhari and Trump never brought up the case of Biafra independence. Saying that because I know a large percentage of the Trump lovers here on nairaland are supporting him thinking he's their gateway to getting Biafra. I have nothing against your Biafra because I have no ball in the game but I can assure you with 100% certainty that Trump doesn't give a hoot about you or your Biafra. If he doesn't care about Black and Brown people in his country, what the fvck do you think he cares about you in a Continent he disparages by calling in his own word a shiiithole. Think over that for a second. The best part of this is that a massive voter registration is going on in America as I speak and in Chicagoland alone, we have registered a little over 30.000 young men and women that just turn 18 or about to turn 18 before the election. Appleyard: I am a Nigerian, a blackman to the core, but above all, one that fears God.
I'm for reality, not a fanatic. What is wrong is wrong, and we can do nothing against the truth.
Where Trump is right, I will hail him, but where he is wrong, I will indict him as well.
I know that after my life here on earth, I will give account of my life to God, and that include what I stood for and what I didn't stand for. It is only someone who have sold his soul to the devil, the father of lies, that would praise Trump on this one. How can a president not publicly address a nation in crisis is beyond me. Even our dull Buhari still manages to address issues of public importance. I'm very disappointed in Trump on this one. Those who are blind to the reality can go on supporting him for this senseless show of irresponsibility. God will judge everyone of us. I respect you for that. People here know that I love Obama but I called him out after the continuation of the useless wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. I hated his stand on abortion due to my Catholic education but the problem with our guys here that fawn over Trump is that they think of him as next to Jesus Christ. He's a perfect being to them. Some of these guys love Trump more than their fathers and that's very sad knowing that these are the same kind of people Trump and his Nazi followers hates with all the cells in their souls. |

Appleyard: Exstcly my point. But unfortunately, it's like you are talking to a brick wall. Extreme fanaticism is sequel to terrorism. Its a pity seeing how fellow brothers could hail trump on this one. Timbuktuo yesterday was calling George Floyd's brother that was calling for calm and non violent protest in America Uncle Tom. Do any sane person say that to a guy that his brother was lynched in broad day light by Nazis in uniform. Some of these Trump lovers here never condemned the brutal way George was killed while begging for his life. They are only worried about the looting and burning. I am against looting and burnings too but alk those stores that were looted are fully insured and they will be compensated by the insurance companies for their loss but nothing can bring the lives of George and thousands of other Brown and Black people that has been killed by Nazi police officers. |
Foreign Affairs › Re: American Politics Thread: Trump Is The 47th President! by Abbeybailey(m): 12:35pm On Jun 02, 2020 |
Appleyard: Use your brain. Did you watch the video or not? Even a child in the belly knew Floyd was murdered. What? Are you saying if the president calls for the prosecution of the officers involved, it would mean the president is usurping the judicial process? What'e wrong with some of you? Since when does calling for prosecution means passing a guilty verdict? Are you serious?
Yes, as much as I hated to admit it, Obama (whom I deem a monumental failure as much as blacks are concerned) did address the nation and called for justice for the murder of Garner, even after a grand jury cleared the cops involved of any criminal charges. He made a promise that they will see they get to the bottom of it, and the next few moments saw the Department of Justice conducting a separate investigation of their own, not withstanding the final outcome therefrom.
Here is the catch: when you're the president of a country that is highly divided across racial lines, do your best to douse tensions in times of public unrest where the subject matter revolves around race. Trump could have done his part (and even use this opportunity to leverage his re-election drive) by sddressing the nation and advocating for justice for the murdered Floyd. Then appeal to the rioters by promising a deep review of policing activities in relation to the public. Mind you, more than 30 million people and their sources of income are already devasted by the coronavirus outbreak and the consequent lockdown effect.
What you're seeing on the street now is not just a problem of white supremacists or blacks boiled-over anger for years or systematic racism, nor just ANTIFA or some imagined dark groups hijacking the protest to score political or racial points. Its all part of it, but the real thing here is that people are broke and angry. A hungry man is an angry man, and the last thing you can think of is making remarks that could aggravate the whole situation. Unfortunately, that's what Trump did. He was completely wrong for not addressing the issue in a manner that conveys sensual feelings. He is all for the economy, and laboured strenuously for it, and wants the lockdown doors to open quickly so things can get back to normal, which is good. Then why give the same people a reason to stay more time in the streets?
Heck, don't tell me " when the looting starts, the shooting starts" is a good and welcomed statement in this hour, or is it? Don't tell me calling protesters "thugs" (when we all know what that statement suggest and to whom it is implied) in such critical hour is a welcome and well guarded statement? You're better than this man. That I like Trump for certain reasons don't mean I should support his failures as well.
On the bunker issue, I repeat it was needless to have run into a bunker. Jesus. This isn't even a code-red situation that warrant he been moved into a bunker. The entire situation is too dramatic to imagine. I'm beginning to think that either someone in his inner circle is trying to sabotage trump reelection or he is just been plain stupid. That bunker retreat crystalyzes Trump's AWOL response to George Floyd's death and subsequent riot that's still ongoing. It's unimaginable that up till now, the president who wants economic activities to bounce back in full swing is yet to address the nation and it's streets crowded with rioters in a formal telecast, even if its from his underground bunker. And here you are supporting this wreckless failure.
Alright, may be a black man gruesome murder isn't worth it, Hong Kong and China are more important to talk about. BIG SHAME on Trump on this one. Seriously Appleyard, it's like I am dreaming but to be candid, you are spot on. A president should be for all the citizens of his or her country regardless of race, gender or wealth. Trump truly believes that he is the President for Whites in Red States and since we know politics is an act of Addition not Subtraction. There's no single addiction to his coalition. 2020 is not 2016 because Americans are suffering with 41millions job lost, 20% unemployment rate and over 106.000+ Americans dead of Trumpvirus. How can he win with that number. We shall see on Nov 3rd. |

azpekuliar: Thank you ancestor, I may have been a toddler in 1992 with no access to cable TV but it is immaterial now. As a lover of history it is my sworn duty to correct obvious obsufucation of the facts. Donald Trump is not the first American President to invoke the Insurrection Act. If it was good in 1992 to end the rioting and looting that was then confined to Los Angeles, then it must be good in 2020 to end the rioting and looting spreading concurrently across several cities in America. The insurrection act that was invoked by Bush was just that in the sense of bringing the deadly riots spreading all over metropolitan LA to a halt unlike the ones Trump is threatening to unleash the power and viciousness of American military on American citizens that's unheard of in American history maybe with the exception of the civil war. My main point is that Trump is a divisive figure in America. A president brings people together in times of pain and anguish but the Nazi loving Trump is not mentally capable of doing that. |

Appleyard: What a babel! Secret Service my foot. Is the CIA the head of the president or the president head of the security? Who is ruling who? Heck, this is not even a crisis with a code red alert, and you're here creating imagined threats from Satan's scrotum!
You saying the president has no choice about his security is a very stupid and puerile excuse to make. I can't believe sensible people will go this length to defend stupidity and shameless show of irresponsibility.
You think if one diabolic organization wants Trump dead, the perfect timing would be during a public riot when the security apparatus of the state is 1100% on alert and fully activated? You blind fanatics are the naive ones here, my friend. Making up silly excuses for failures of the president during such a critical time is to me lame and mypoic.
Which president hops like a frog into an underground bunker during protests in a section of his country, not to mention when such protests doesn't even have anything to do with the president style of rulership or policies? There was similar widespread and violent protest during Obama time for similar issue of police brutality, how many bunker did he run into? Other presidents in America has seen far worse cases and even threat to their personal lives, which one of them runs into a bunker?
Not quite long, we saw the huge and devastating protests that shut down much of France, which bunker did Macron ran into? Which of them prefer to make provocative statements, or prefer to talk more about human rights in another man country while his own is on fire?
Trump had all the time to host a press conference in front of the white house where he finds it convenient and shameless to talk about China and Hong Kong's autonomy vis-à-vis human right in Hong Kong, when his own crazy police state are killing both black, white, green and yellow, without provocation. He didn't deem it worthy to talk about the gruesome murder and the ongoing riot in his recent press conference, and you're here supporting him for running into a bunker like the Russians are coming with Topol M and Satan 2? Men, you should be ashamed for the president on this one. He got it all wrong this time. Stop being a blind fanatic.
No level of threat to the president could have deter him from making a national telecast addressing the riot, calling for the quick prosecution of the racists cops involved, proposed reformed to pplice use of extremem force, and plead with the people to go back home. That's what a responsible president does, not feigning ignorance to what's happening and running into an underground bunker like the protesters have breached the White house. It's only an idiot that would hail Trump's handling of this one. Appleyard, you know you and I and few others here are doyennes here. Seriously, you are metamorphosising before my eyes. You are absolutely right on point. A mark of a leader is to calm down a situation especially when the nation is grieving and in pain. Trump is not mentally capable of doing that because he sees himself as a President for certain part of the country. A president is a calming voice during trying period in US. Let me give you an example. About 30 years ago in Los Angeles, Rodney King was brutally beaten by four white police officers and Los Angeles and it's suburbs literally went on fire and George Bush Snr came out and addressed the nation and there was calm. 911 happened under Bush jnr, and George Jnr went to NY City and stood on top of the Twin towers ruins and addressed the nation and calm the nation down. Clinton did with Queresh cult followers and so did Obama called down the effects of Ferguson riots but here we have a president Trump who is mentally incapable of putting out the fire burning in America. This on going problem started from frustrations of seeing Blacks and Brown's being killed disproportionately by Nazi police officers. I can give you twenty names of recent black men and women that have been slaughtered by White racist police officers not to talk about Ahmaud Arbery that was slaughtered by a racist father and son just for jogging in their neighborhood. Can these coons that support Trump think of what the families of the lynched people are going through ?. |
