ayoncox: What is a nation like Nigeria doing with Sharia law when it is not an islamic republic, that is the question. Good question....Nigeria is not an islamic republic.. It is a secular federation that allows each state some level of legal independence... That is the balance of our system.....unity (as in one nigeria) but in diversity.... I hope you get this? It Means..every state has right to preserve its culture and belief.. As long as it stays within the national law.. |

Broveens42: Any government has every right to protect its citizens based on general knowledge of laws exported to them. You told them you are a secular state, but infused sharia law to the country's criminal code.
Nobody is saying, forming a true Islamic country is bad. You raised a valid point, But.let us be clear...Shariah only applies to Muslims in certain states that democratically adopted it For personal and moral cases--not the entire country.. It is not infused into national criminal code for everyone.. The real issue is not the presence of shariah.....But ensuring that all citizens regardless of their faiths are treated equally...Under one constitution.. |

casdoruche: He has no point
Sharia is a law where barbarism and Neanderthal behavior of primitive man is exhibited.
Talk about stoning to death Killing unbelievers in the most brutal way We see Sudan We see terror organizations built on sharia principles.
You kill and burn like animals
Those are not laws Those are religious extremism and intolerance Women have no rights Laws are meant to fit in with the current reality Sharia laws are from 1400 years old
Punishments for stealing for instance says amputation in sharia law. There were no organized prisons then but now we have prisons and we see people get rehabilitation. What happens when you cut off such person hands Same law allows you to marry children from 9 years which we see the health risk. How does that work.
We have Christian laws too We have traditional worshippers laws too
Why should sharia law alone be It is good to have strong opinions, but we should also understand things Before condernming them. Sharia law when properly practiced is not about barbarism..It is a system moral , social and legal order.. That exist long before colonial influence.. The problem is not the law itself..How some people a busy or misapply it.. Even the amputation law you mentioned Is applied only on strict conditions.. proven theft no property excuse.. and full due process in reality,it is rarely carrIed out.. |

But if what bashir Ahmed said in reaction to US interfering about Sharia law..then he has a point in principle.. Trump has no right to dictate internal religious or legal system..unless there is a clear human right violence |

Orkpekyandega: Since Trump designated Nigeria as a country of particular concern, some unscrupulous elements are spreading propaganda about imperialism citing Libya and Iraq. One needs to live long to see how political food can change vocal activists into miserable sycophants. They didn't understand the open prayer the Pope made after the death of over 200 Christians in Yelwata, killed by Islamic terrorists around a Catholic mission. He was wailing to God and also wailing to man simultaneously. One of the men who heard his wailing is his brother, President Trump. These miserable propagandists didn't talk about imperialism when a group of "core" Northern elites went to the US in 2014 to beg the US to designate Nigeria as a country of particular concern, which made the US invoke the Leahy Law that prohibits the sale of weapons to Nigeria. They didn't know about imperialism when the terrorists massacred Christians in their sleep in Plateau, Benue, Southern Kaduna, Nasarawa, Kastina, Kebbi, Adamawa, Taraba and other Christian areas. When the Buhari government freed the captured Islamic terrorists and integrated them into the society, they didn't think of imperialism. They didn't shout imperialism when Deborah Yakubu was brutally murdered in cold blood or when Leah Sharibu was kidnapped for her faith. Imperialism or colonialism or neocolonialism kpai you there! The beauty of this designation is that President Tinubu who has prioritised his second term over the lives of Nigerians will sit up. He will give the "core" Northerners an ultimatum to withdraw their boys. He will then follow up by asking the military to clean up the system. In the next couple of weeks, the so-called Islamic bandits will go into hiding including their sponsors in high places. There will be a national policy to return IDPs to their ancestral homes after the Army has cleared out the uncircumcised terrorists. We will see victory at last. The jihad is coming to an end and there will be victory for all men of goodwill. President Trump will be remembered as the friend who employed maximum pressure to end the conspiracy against Christians in Nigeria. We will reclaim our land, we will take back our country from these children of darkness, and we shall build a collective future where Christians and moderate Muslims will live in peace and prosperity.
- Stephen Akuma Sir, The truth is...we must stop judging whole religions by the actions of a few extremists.. Every religion has people who misuse it for hate..but that doesn't make the faith itself evil.. Killing of Deborah Samuel was a deep strategic and a total failure of humanity..not a victory for any religion. No faith supports murder....Muslim doesn't and Christian too either. |

SmartPolician: I learnt that anyone who could speak Hausa or Fulani from outside Nigeria is allowed into Northern Nigeria and considered their brothers and sisters. Now, the entire country is paying the heavy price for something people in the South know nothing about.
It's even more disturbing that security operatives know those sponsoring terrorism in Nigeria but won't expose or prosecute them because they are influential people. This nonsense can only happen in Nigeria, and no sane person should tolerate it.
The west needs to pay attention to what's happening here because this is not how to run a country. Government officials don't seem to care about the wanton killings happening across the country because their family members aren't directly involved. You are 100% right ..l have no comment to argue with you on this. |

These guys cannot move from one community to another killing people and you expect everyone to keep quiet because the state security apparatus and government officials have been compromised. Bro, l understand your point....and you are right that the killing must stop..but we shouldn't blame an entire ethnic group for the crimes of a few.. GeneralOuki: oga every settlements in the pre colonial Nigeria had thriving settlements, trade and leadership before the Europeans arrived. But in the case of Lagos, it's urbanisation and modernisation all are attributed to the European influence which lasted for more than a century. You are right, the European influence played a big role in lagos modernization.. No one is denying that, but it is important to separate colonial development from cultural ownership.. Lagos didn't start with the British..am l right or wrong? It was already a yoruba settlement led by the Awori and later under some yoruba groups before colonial era The European only made lagos their base..because it was already a well established and strategic yoruba town |

GeneralOuki: Yoruba did not build anything, it was built up by the Europeans. That was the Europeans colonial sit of power for more than a century Lagos didn't start with the Europeans-----They only expanded what they met... The Aworis and other Yoruba groups had built thriving settlements.. trade and leadership long before the colonial rule. Lagos become a megacity doesn't erase its Yoruba roots, it only proves how strong those roots are. |

I hope we won't cry foul and call them names? Me I'm for Nigeria o, not for any ethnic sentiment. Otherwise each region shd stand on their own. And this is the only pathway to a better Nigeria. I understand your point, but what is happening now is not nepotism, it is balance. For years, other regions had their turn and enjoyed the advantages of leadership without calling it favoritism. Now that the south west is being recognised for its consistency, contribution hardwork ,suddenly it is nepotism ? that is not fair reasoning. Breaking up wont solve our issues, building together with justice and competence will. |

Sharia court is part of the problem. The problem isn't the shariah court itself...it is how justice is being handled in this country... Even without Christian court, corruption and bad leadership still exist everywhere.. We should stop blaming religion for what failed governance and selfish politicians have caused.
