Politics / Wife Of DG SSS Orders Arrest Of Kano NNPP Guber Candidate, Directs Personnel To by abdulmumini60(f): 10:14am On Jan 09, 2023
Aisha Bichi, the wife of the director-general of the State Security Service, SSS, Yusuf Bichi, has ordered the arrest of the Kano governorship candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, Abba Yusuf, and barred him from boarding a Air Peace flight from Kano to Abuja on Sunday night.

DAILY NIGERIAN gathered that the crisis began at the gate of the VIP lounge of the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano when the motorcade of the politician caused traffic holdup, briefly delaying Mrs Bichi’s convoy from gaining swift passage into the controlled area.

Sources said the situation angered Mrs Bichi as her security guards started beating up people and hitting vehicles for “disrespecting Madam”Witnesses said as the dust began to settle, the NNPP candidate went into the lounge to meet her, being his wife’s friend, and complain about the personel’s untoward behaviour.

“No sooner had Abba approached her than she began raining insults on him. Although the state director of service attempted to calm her down, she continued pouring the expletives, saying she would not allow him to be a governor,” an eyewitness told this newspaper.

DAILY NIGERIAN gathered that the situation worsened when she sighted a member of the politician’s entourage, Garba Kilo, filming the altercation with his phone. “As she saw Kilo taking a video, she immediately ordered the personnel to kill him, saying ‘kill him, and nothing will happen’.She further vowed that she would not allow Abba to board same flight with her tonight. As she continued shouting, the state director of DSS pleaded with Abba to cancel his trip and go back home.

“As Abba insisted on boarding the flight, a reinforcement of DSS personnel shortly arrived at the airport and cordoned off the lounge building. Some hefty-looking operatives then stormed into the lounge and told Abba that he was under arrest,” said the source.

Sources further told DAILY NIGERIAN that the police DPO in charge of the airport later arrived in company of his subordinates to investigate the incident and take statements from the parties involved in the clash.

“After Abba gave a statement, the DPO went to the left wing of the lounge to take her statement, but she declined, asking ‘do you know who I am? Who are you to even confront me to write a statement?

“The DPO later eft without taking her statement,” said the source.

DAILY NIGERIAN learnt that the SSS operatives later released Mr Yusuf after the flight took off with the DG’s wife.

Spokesman for the SSS, Peter Afunanya, did not respond to DAILY NIGERIAN inquiry on the matter at the time of filing this report, just as spokesman for the NNPP candidate, Sanusi Dawakintofa, could not be reached for comment on the matter.

Mrs Bichi, believed by insiders to be meddling with the service affairs, had recently ordered SSS operatives to beat up her tailor in Abuja for failure to sew her cloths on time.

The stormy petrel had also ordered the removal of the service director at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja for allegedly refusing to welcome her last year.

Politics / Yahaya Bello Fills Nomination Form As APC Candidate For Kogi Poll by abdulmumini60(f): 7:37am On Nov 30, 2015
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has given its Kogi State governorship nomination form to its new candidate, Mr. Yahaya Bello, to fill. The development may have foreclosed the consideration of any other candidate as the party’s standard bearer. Bello filled the form, which was signed by a Commissioner of Oath. It was returned to the APC National Secretariat. It was learnt that the form was attached to the letter of nomination, which the National Chairman of APC, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, sent to INEC on Friday. The party retained Hon. James Abiodun Faleke as running mate – a position Faleke rejected, insisting on the mandate the people gave the late Abubakar Audu/Faleke ticket. A top officer of the party said: “We are in receipt of many petitions but it is already late for anybody because we have nominated Yahaya Bello as the party’s substitute for Prince Abubakar Audu. “Of course, we have automatically retained Hon. James Abiodun Faleke as our deputy governorship candidate. “As a matter of fact, we gave the nomination form to Bello to fill on Friday and we have duly submitted all relevant documents to INEC. “You can direct further enquiries to INEC and Bello, who is now our candidate.” It was gathered that APC rushed to give the form to Bello, despite the fact that it has up till December 1, to pre-empt legal action especially court injunction. A member of the NWC said: “We hastily concluded the nomination process to stave off any court injunction which may hinder the party’s chances for the supplementary poll on December 5. “We took advantage of Friday to seal the process because any of the aggrieved parties could rush to court before Tuesday and allow the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) to emerge winner of the Kogi Governorship Election on a platter of gold. “If we do not check the dirty war over the substitution of our candidate, APC may be the ultimate loser.” When contacted, a media aide to Bello said: “It is true that our principal has filled the governorship nomination form as presented to him by APC and we are aware that the form has been submitted.” A source in INEC also confirmed the submission of the form. “Yes, it has been submitted,” he said pleading not to be quoted.

Politics / Fayose Embarrassing Our Family, Says Brother by abdulmumini60(f): 8:29am On Mar 24, 2015
Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose’s eldest
brother, Segun, has appealed to the governor
to stop embarrassing the family.
He said their father was a gentle pastor, who
built and sustained a good name for the
family, before joining his ancestors.
The elder Fayose spoke with our reporters in
Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
He said rather than sustain the good name
which he inherited, the governor has been
embarrassing other Fayoses with the way he
insults elders like former President Olusegun
Obasanjo and the presidential candidate of the
All Progressives Congress (APC), Gen.
Muhammadu Buhari.
Segun, who is a United Kingdom-based
accountant, said the family cherished the name
it inherited from its late patriarch.
Emphasising that their father died with
contentment, the elder Fayose said the family
was known in Ekiti for sound character found
in every omoluabi.
He described Chief Obasanjo as Ayo Fayose’s
benefactor.
Segun said: “It is a pity Nigerians are
celebrating criminals. I am angry with
Nigerians for electing somebody like Ayodele
as governor. My children cannot come to
Nigeria because of the terrible situation of our
country.
“I don’t have a relationship with any of our
leaders because of their criminality and
anybody who says I collected money from the
opposition should step forward to challenge me.
Ekiti and Nigeria are bigger than Fayose’s
name and both names should be protected.
“I don’t want anything from anybody, but
Ayo should stop insulting and abusing my
father’s name. As a result of Fayose’s attitude,
many people believe the Fayose family is rude
but it is far from the truth.
“I have spoken to him many times, but he
refused to listen. Buhari and Obasanjo are old
enough to be his father and I don’t know why
he should be insulting them.
“I am always sad with the situation of this
country. Ayo’s arrogance is one of the reasons
I said people should not vote for him prior to
the Ekiti governorship election. If all I am
saying is not true, my six children should die
and I should end up in shame.
“Most of us abroad are not happy with the
situation of Nigeria. We are sad. When people
call me from Ekiti to complain about Ayo, I
tell them to forgive the family. People should
not see Ayo as an ambassador of our family

Politics / OPC Factions Clash After Anti-jega Protest by abdulmumini60(f): 8:06am On Mar 17, 2015
Following Monday’s protest by the Oodua
Peoples’ Congress, OPC, factions within the
group have risen up to dissociate themselves
from the call for removal of Attahiru Jega,
Chairman of the Independent National
Electoral Commission, INEC.
The Gani Adams’ faction of the OPC,
accompanied by members of the Goodluck
Jonathan Campaign Organization, took to the
streets in Lagos to demand the removal of the
INEC boss ahead of the March 28 general
elections.
Mr. Adams said the rally was not partisan,
but a call for Mr. Jega to be removed from
office.
“What we protested for was the removal of
Jega over the poor distribution of PVCs in the
south, registration of underage in the north
and creation of additional 30,000 polling
units in the north,” Mr. Adams told
PREMIUM TIMES after the protest.
The OPC members, armed with guns, pocket-
knives, machetes, and charms marched from
the Lagos-Ibadan expressway through Ikorodu
road chanting anti-Jega songs.
Some of protesters harassed motorists and
passers-by while others vandalized campaign
posters of political parties, particularly those of
the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Last Friday, the Movement for the
Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra,
MASSOB, held similar protests across the
South Eastern states of Anambra, Enugu, and
Ebonyi where they accused Mr. Jega of
incompetence.
On Sunday, the APC claimed it had
uncovered a plot by the ruling Peoples’
Democratic Party, PDP, to use ethnic militias
to protest for the removal of Mr. Jega.
But Mr. Adams accused the APC and Lai
Mohammed, its National Publicity Secretary,
of peddling falsehood, adding that Monday’s
protest was peaceful.
“Nobody was attacked. Lai Muhammed
should stop peddling lies against our
members,” Mr. Adams said.
“Nobody touched their bill boards. It’s the
most peaceful rally I have seen. Even they,
APC, cannot hold a peaceful as successful
rally as that. As a matter of fact, over 30
Nollywood stars took part in the rally
including myself.”
“Against Yoruba interest”
Another faction of the OPC responded swiftly
and angrily on Monday, accusing Mr.
Adams of betraying the group and the Yoruba
people.
“We, the members of the National
Coordinating Council of the Oodua People’s
Congress, OPC, the highest ruling body of the
organization, wish to disassociate ourselves
from the shameful, destructive, violent and
reactionary activities of the Gani Adam-led
team which occurred in Lagos today,” the
group said in a statement.
“What was witnessed today in Lagos was the
highest level of political violence sponsored and
funded by certain elements in the Jonathan
government.
“Gani Adams is on his own and does not
enjoy the support of a large size of our
membership spread across the country. He is
working for the sponsors of violence against
our people who want the March 28 elections
not to hold. Unleashing terror on innocent
citizens and killing them is not the way of
democracy. It is not our idea of a people-
oriented advocacy.”
In 2013, the Mr. Adams-led faction of the
OPC secured a lucrative contract from the
federal government to secure crude oil pipelines
in the South West.
At the time, Mr. Adams justified the contract
by claiming that President Jonathan had also
awarded similar contracts to Niger Delta
militants and that the OPC deserved its share.
“For a group that has been doing a lot of
things for the society free of charge, it is not
too much to apply for a security job,” Mr.
Adams had said.
Monday’s meeting of the OPC faction was
attended by Shina Akinpelu, Monsuru
Akande, Sunday Adebayo, Kilanko Oladipupo,
Kehinde Ogunyale, and Gbenga Eegunlusi.
In its statement, the faction accused Mr.
Adams of being on “dubious project” and
using the pipeline contract from the
government as an excuse to recruit people to
work for Mr. Jonathan and PDP in the South
West.
“Gani Adams is acting against Yoruba
interest. The compromises he has made
amounts to selling the Yoruba to the present
government for a piece of Pipeline contract to
line his pockets,” the group said.
“OPC is not about pipeline contracts or any
other contracts for that matter. The Yoruba
interest is beyond contracts. We seek justice
and fairness from the current government.”
The group called on Yoruba sons and
daughters to join them in condemning Mr.
Adams and his “anti-democratic tendencies.”
“We must renounce him and remind him he
cannot sell the Yoruba race to Jonathan and
PDP on the cheap. He also has no authority to
speak on behalf of the Yoruba people,” they
said.
“We pity those who rely on him to win votes.
They will be sorely disappointed. Their
investment is a bad one already. We reject
today and always any attempt to use our
organization and its members for narrow and
selfish partisan purposes.
“We must remind them that the Yoruba
people cannot be hoodwinked by sweeteners.
No one should expect them to kow tow to an
individual who is a Lilliputian in the political
development and history of the Yoruba nation.”
While renouncing Mr. Adams and his
activities, the group also renounced other
Yoruba sons and daughters who are playing
roles inimical to the welfare and interest of the
South West.
“We call on our people to be vigilant
politically at this time. Nigeria needs a new
leadership, a new direction and a country
that works.” source premium times

Politics / Fayose Is An Embarrassment – Kwankwaso by abdulmumini60(f): 9:24am On Mar 16, 2015
Kano State governor, Dr Musa Rabiu
Kwankwaso, yesterday took the Ekiti State
governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose to the cleaners
over his use of vile language and verbal
assaults on individuals and the Northern
region, saying he has become a national
embarrassment and should be taken to the
psychiatric hospital.
Kwankwaso who stormed Lagos to counter the
effects of alleged ‘dollar rain’ in Lagos State,
South West zone and to reunite the Arewa
Community in the zone now divided over the
sharing formula of Mr President’s largess
also visited the national leader of the All
Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola
Tinubu with Hausa leaders to reaffirm their
loyalty to the party despite the financial
inducements.
The governor who lamented the insults and
virulent language being used to deride General
Muhammadu Buhari and the Northern
region in general by President Goodluck
Jonathan and his campaign group said, “The
North will reply them on March 28 in the
presidential polls.”
“When I had an opportunity to serve my
National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), I was
sent to Ogun State to serve as a member of
NYSC and has always had this belief that
this part of the country parades an array of
people who are well cultured, respectful people
ranging from Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Chief
Ernest Shonekan, Chief Obasanjo, Asiwaju

others
Politics / Jonathan’s N9b Contracts ‘fuel Anti-jegaprotests’ by abdulmumini60(f): 8:30am On Mar 16, 2015
Those pushing for Prof. Attahiru Jega’s
removal do not seem to be tired – a protest is
slated for Lagos today.
The Jega-must-go march is being led by an
amorphous organisation – The Coalition of
Concerned Nigerians – backed by the Oodua
Peoples Congress (APC).
The protest is coming after the weekend action
against the Independent National Electoral
Commission (INEC) chair by the Movement
for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of
Biafra (MASSOB) in the Southeast.
It is all at a price – N9billion – the All
Progressives Congress (APC) said yesterday.
The APC accused the Jonathan administration
of sponsoring ethnic militias to foment trouble
before, during and after the March 28 and
April 11 general elections, saying the N9
billion recently paid out to some ex-militants
and ethnic militias is aimed at mobilising them
to scuttle the polls.
In a statement issued in Lagos by its National
Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed,
the party said the protests by MASSOB
seeking the sack of the INEC Chairman were
orchestrated by the administration as part of
its continuing efforts to sabotage the elections.
It said the next group that has been mobilised
to protest against Jega and the use of card
reader is the OPC, which is also a beneficiary
of the N9 billion payout, ostensibly for pipeline
protection, but in reality to prepare the ethnic
militias for their reprehensible role in scuttling
the elections.
The APC said more ethnic militias are to be
enlisted by the Jonathan administration to
continue the protest against Jega and the card
reader, in order to give the impression that
Nigerians want Jega sacked and are also
against the use of card reader.
As from today, some companies owned by
some former Niger-Delta militant leaders and
prominent Nigerians are to take over pipeline
protection from the police and the Nigerian
Security and Civil Defence Corps, following
President Jonathan’s approval of their
contracts.
They include Government Ekpemuopolo (aka
Tompolo); Mujaheedin Asari Dokubo; and
Chief Bibipori Ajube (aka Gen. Shoot-At-
Sight).
According to a source, seven companies have
been allocated “regions” or operational areas
as follows: Egbe Security River One (Bayelsa);
Gallery Security (Mosinmi -Ore); Close Body
Protection (Edo State); Adex Energy Security
(Rivers); Donyx Global Concept (Lagos and
Ogun); Oil Facilities Surveillance-(Delta) and
New Age Global Security (Mosinmi-Ibadan).
The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation
(NNPC) will coordinate the multi-billion
naira deal.
The APC expressed sadness that a President
who inherited a united nation has done
everything he can to divide the country along
ethnic and religious lines, including patronising
ethnic militias who serve no other purpose
than to champion sectional interests at the
expense of national unity.
It wondered why President Jonathan would
pay N9 billion to a handful of people at a
time of great economic downturn and falling
Naira, as well as in a situation in which
many states cannot even afford to pay their
workers because of dwindling allocation from
the Federation Account.
‘’A profligate government that has been bribing
people with dollars and ferrying huge funds
around practically to buy votes has outdone
itself by paying out all of N9 billion to a few
Nigerians, with less than three weeks to the
elections. Shortly after the payment, some self-
serving groups started organising protests
that, for all intents and purposes, are being
orchestrated to scuttle the polls. This is a
shameful show by the federal government,’’ the
APC said.
The Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) confirmed
that it will be part of today’s protest.
While its founder Dr. Frederick Fasehun
denied knowledge of the planned protest last
night, its coordinator Chief Gani Adams said
the OPC will be joining another group to stage
the protest.
According to him, about five million people in
the Southwest have not collected their PVCs,
barely two weeks to elections.
“The INEC boss cannot disenfranchise our
people for not just any reason. We are equally
protesting because Jega created about
30,000 polling units in the North without
creating any in the South. This is an
indication that he has his own agenda. We
cannot fold our hands when majority of our
people are being denied their legitimate right.”
“If Jega feels that he cannot cope with the
situation on ground before the election, he
should resign and let another competent man
be saddled with the responsibility.”
Politics / Ex-house Speaker, Ghalina’abba, Dumps PDP by abdulmumini60(f): 8:56pm On Mar 15, 2015
former Speaker of the House of
Representatives, Ghali Na’Abba, has dumped
Nigeria’s ruling Peoples Democratic Party,
PDP.
In his resignation letter dated March 15, Mr.
Na’Abba, who led the legislative chamber
during the Olusegun Obasanjo presidency,
accused President Goodluck Jonathan of
reducing governance to a ridiculous level and
splitting the country along ethnic and religious
lines.
The ex-lawmaker’s letter was sent to the
chairman of the PDP Sharada Ward in Kano
Municipal Local Government Area and titled
“Notification of Resignation from PDP, each
organs and committees.”
The letter was also copied to the PDP
chairman in Kano, North West Zone
National Vice Chairman, National Chairman,
and Chairman of the party’s Board of
Trustees.
Mr. Na’Abba blamed President Jonathan and
other previous leaders of the PDP, which has
ruled Nigeria since 1999, of putting the
country in in a bad situation.
“In the sixteen years the Party has been
ruling at the center, the Party’s leadership has
failed to lead by example,” he said.
He, however, had the harshest criticism for the
current president, saying, “No administration
has used religion and ethnicity to divide
Nigerians more than the current
administration under the leadership of Mr.
Goodluck Jonathan.”
The former lawmaker did not state if he was
joining any other party but told PREMIUM
TIMES on phone that he was being lobbied
by other parties to join them. His supporters in
Kano, whose governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso,
also dumped the PDP for the All Progressices
Congress, APC, however expect the ex-
lawmaker to also join the main oppostion
party.
Read excerpts of his resignation letter below.
“You are no doubt aware of the abysmal level
to which the leadership of our great Country
under President Goodluck Jonathan and the
Peoples Democratic Party have reduced
governance to, as a result of which our great
Party has been losing its sons and daughters
including so many of its founding fathers and
members by the day,” the Kano-born
lawmaker stated.
“All efforts of critical members and fathers of
the Party to offer advice remain always
unheeded. It pains most of us that majority of
the founding fathers that had died like Chief S.
M. Afolabi, Alhaji Muhammad Abubakar
Rimi, Chief Solomon Lar, Professor Osammor,
Chief S. B. Awoniyi etc all died as a result of
their frustration by and with the Party.
“Those living like Dr. Alex Ekwueme, Malam
Adamu Chiroma, Dr Shettima Mustapha,
Alhaji Asheikh Jarma Dr. Victor Odili, Mr.
Isaac Shaahu and many others are equally
living with such frustration. While others like
Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Alhaji Isyaku
Ibrahim, Alhaji Musa Gwadabe, two former
National Chairmen, Chief Audu Ogbe and
Chief Barnabas Gemade etc had since left the
Party.
“The Party and the administration clearly
possess neither compassion nor empathy.
“The Country’s and the Party’s leadership
have become cabalised to the extent that while
Nigerians are aware that they have a
President in the person of Dr. Goodluck
Jonathan, they are at the same time at a loss
as to who governs their Country. Both Nigeria
and the PDP are left to drift. In the sixteen
years the Party has been ruling at the center,
the Party’s leadership has failed to lead by
example.
“Instead, it has left us with the conventional
wisdom that people cannot succeed in life
unless they are ruthless and unprincipled. The
Party has become characterized by corruption
and impunity in the way and manner
candidates for elective positions are being
selected to the extent that in almost twenty
states, crisis has engulfed the Party over the
Gubernatorial primaries and the manner other
candidates for other elective positions emerged.
“In short, the Party and the Country’s
leadership have failed to consolidate democratic
gains for sister African Countries and other
transition Countries to follow. Instead, under
the current leadership, Nigeria is suffering
from loss of esteem, as we are now most often
consigned to the back seat of international
relations. Most worrisome is the current
anxiety of most Nigerians as the regime
wobbles and tumbles toward the oncoming
election.
“It has today become incontrovertible that
cartels and shady characters are becoming
visible, important and indispensable factors in
Nigeria’s governance. It appears those at the
helm of affairs are more comfortable with such
characters of easy virtue than with patriotic
and altruistic Nigerians. No doubt, in our
Country today, the quality of governance is
going down by the day.
“Critical National Institutions that unify and
wield Nigerians together have been dragged
into politics, contrary to wise counsel and
political correctness. No administration has
used religion and ethnicity to divide Nigerians
more than the current administration under
the leadership of Mr. Goodluck Jonathan. The
ultimate test of any leader is looking at what
has remained after he is gone.
“You will agree with me that such pervasive
political behavior should under no
circumstances be tolerated by all who subscribe
to decent and conscionable political practice. I
have relentlessly pushed for reform of the
internal policies of the PDP individually and
collectively, without success. In fact it is
common knowledge that all critical members of
the Party have been made irrelevant by the
Party.
“Members who are pliant and who lack
principle and who stand for nothing are
always more trusted by the leadership to carry
out Party assignments. Such members are said
to be “loyal”. Such loyalty is nothing but a
euphemism for people who stand for nothing.
Because no one is trusted by the leadership
both at governmental and party levels, only a
handful of party men and women are always
entrusted with such party tasks as National
Conventions, fund raising. Such men and
women are now fully re circled.
“Their faces are today so familiar to the eyes
of Nigerians. As a politician with political
science background, it is obvious to me that
PDP is both self-destruct and irredeemable.
Coupled with the regimes divisive and
unpatriotic disposition, Nigeria has become a
bye-word for “touch and go”, if examples of
contemporary nations are anything to go by.
The challenge before Nigerians today, in order
to secure a new lease of life therefore, is how
to get out this inept leadership that has
neither allure nor inspiration.
“In its place, Nigerians deserve not just a
good President, good governors , and other
political office holders, but true and exemplary
leaders. And within this context, leadership
that is more truly both transactional and
transformative and which have more
competence and capacity to govern. Nigeria
needs leaders with a clear vision for the future.
Leaders that will lead not from the back, side
or front but from within. Leaders that will
provide courageous and moral leadership the
dearth of which has led to the weakening of
political and economic institutions throughout
Nigeria.
“For the above and many reasons, effective
today 15th March 2015, I hereby tender my
resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party,
it’s organs including the Board of Trustees
and all other committees to which I belong at
National and State levels.
“I pray that your mind and those of other
Patriots would also be illuminated with truth
so that you may also act wisely and
accordingly. This comes with the renewed
assurances of my highest consideration and
personal respect”.

Politics / American Delegates, Nigerian Intelligence Chiefs Clash In Washington Over Shift by abdulmumini60(f): 11:00am On Mar 14, 2015
A mild tussle ensued on Wednesday at a
special briefing in Washington DC when
members of an American pre-election mission
disputed claims by two Nigerian security chiefs
that their delegation endorsed postponement of
the elections.
Giving updates on preparations for the re-
scheduled elections, Ambassador Ayodele Oke,
Director-General of the National Intelligence
Agency, and Rear-Admiral Gabriel E. Okoi,
Director of Defence Intelligence, said the
Nigerian government has overcome most of the
security and logistic problems that led to the
postponement of the election.
Mr. Oke said the election delay was
occasioned by incidences of criminal violence,
widespread tension and Boko Haram
insurgency, which were occurring in tandem
with considerable shortfall in the electoral
calendar.
“INEC was having challenges with regards to
the distribution of permanent voter cards
(PVCs)”, he said, “while another important
tool, the card reader machine were not fully
yet tested and deployed” across the country.
Speaking on the insurgency, Mr. Okoi
confirmed that Boko Haram effectively
controlled 14 local government areas in the
run-up to February 14, the day elections were
scheduled to commence.
The terrorists’ threat virtually preempted any
form of electoral activity in the occupied areas,
the intelligence chiefs said.
“Consequently INEC, after robust consultation
with key stakeholders, deferred the elections by
six weeks in accordance with constitutional
provisions”
Re-emphasizing the gravity of the conditions
that led to the decision to postpone the
elections, Mr. Oke said that “that when the
election was postponed, the NDI and IRI who
are both on the ground issued a joint
statement which corroborated and gave fuller
explanation as to the reason why INEC took
the decision it took,” adding that the statement
is on their website.
But speaking after the security chiefs’
presentations, representatives of the National
Democratic Institute (NDI) and the
International Republican Institute (IRI), who
were present at the event, took an exception to
Nigerian officials’ representation of their
statement.
Former US assistant secretary of state for
African Affairs, Ambassador George Moose,
said “nothing in the statement justified
postponement”.
Mr. Moose led the eight-person joint pre-
election assessment mission that visited Nigeria
January 15-20, this year.
He said while the delegation’s statement
recounted the prevailing conditions of the
electoral process and specific challenges to the
polls, it did not recommend any change to the
electoral calendar.
On the contrary, the delegation expressed
“concern that postponement would increase
post-election risks”. Other members of the
NDI, IRI delegation spoke in the same vein

Politics / Awujale To Jonathan: Don’t Expect Obas To Campaign For You by abdulmumini60(f): 7:34am On Mar 13, 2015
THE Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru
Adetona, yesterday advised President Goodluck
Jonathan not to expect any Oba in Ijebuland
to campaign for his re-election in the
rescheduled March 28 presidential election.
Oba Adetona said any monarch seeking to
persuade the people to vote for any politician
in the general elections, which, he described, as
“full of tension”, would bring “trouble” upon
himself.
The monarch told the president, who arrived
at his palace in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State at
about 11:15am to sell his achievements and
programmes, that he had already told his
subjects – Christians and Moslems – to act
wisely and never to vote for corrupt politicians
(ojelus).
His words: “In Ijebu here, it is not possible for
any Oba – not even in Ijebu, in Yorubaland –
to go out and say vote for this, vote for that.
That person is looking for trouble. But they
should give them (politicians) the opportunity
to present their programmes, so that the
people can make up their minds on what to
do.
“I think this is a very sound democratic
principle and that is what I have decided to
do; to give you the opportunity of meeting the
people.
“One, they will see you as a person; how
beautiful you are, whether to engage with you
or not, to listen to you and see if there are
areas where we can meet. As a result,
everybody congregating here, they belong to
different groups.
“They are Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP)
members, All Progressives Congress’ (APC)
members and from All Progressives Grand
Alliance (APGA). They belong to various
interests, and when they come, they get to the
gate and shed their togas.
“PDP will remove their PDP, APC will
remove their own and APGA will remove
their own. They are coming to the palace to
meet their ruler and paramount ruler, to
receive that important august visitor, who is
coming to their lands and give him all honour
that is entitle to him.”
The monarch added: “In all our churches and
mosques, after prayer, they will pray for you,
the governor, for me and all their leaders as it
is so required both in the Bible and in the
Qur’an. Therefore, I thank you Your
Excellency for having this opportunity to
address our people, to listen to you and to
hear your programmes and what you have in
stock for them. And we shall all pray to God
for guidance. Because the Muslims would say
‘guide us to the right path’. God will show us
the way because He is the only one that can
show the way to people.
“Therefore, I thank you Your Excellency most
sincerely for making this trip. God knows the
best. He is the ruler of the Universe, He knows
everything and He can do everything.
Everything is possible in the presence of God –
that is why I occasionally go to the church to
put up a song.
“Each time I have course to talk to our people,
I have always told them in the churches and
mosques that when you are going to vote,
make sure you back your sons and daughter,
who will give something back to you, not the
ojelus (corrupt politicians). But those who will
be honest with you and who knows the way of
God – those are the people you should vote for.
Not those who will give you two, three spoons
and mortgage your future. It is not right.
“I am sure over the years, there has been
improvement. But this election is full of tension.
I don’t know how it is so. Since 55 years, I
have never seen any election that is full of
tension like the one we are having now. My
prayer is God should guide us and make sure
that there’s peace, harmony and tranquility in
the country.”
Also, the Dagburewe of Idowa-Ijebu, Oba
Yinusa Adekoya, who spoke on behalf of the
Ijebu Traditional Council (ITC), drew the
attention of Jonathan to the Mabolufon flyover
that runs across the Sagamu-Ore expressway
at the Ijebu-Ode stretch of it, which was
constructed by Governor Ibikunle Amosun.
Oba Adekoya said the Ijebus remained very
grateful to Amosun for the intervention and
urged the president to quickly “reimburse” the
governor for the cost of building the fly-over to
enable him use the money for other projects
being executed in parts of the state.
He also enlightened the president on the
history of the Ijebu people in Ogun State,
saying they have been around in their present
location for more than 1,000 years with the
Awujale as the supreme head.
According to him, Ijebu has always been the
land of peace and harmony, and made up of
people reputed for commerce and industry,
who have contributed immeasurably to the
nation’s development.
Oba Adekoya reminded Jonathan, among
others, of the moribund Iwopin Paper Mill, a
Federal Government project in Ogun
Waterside; the almost abandoned Olokola Free
Trade Zone(OKFTZ), Olokola Deep Sea Port,
and the people’s clamour for an Ijebu State.
But, Jonathan, who came to the palace with
PDP National Chairman Adamu Mu’azu,
Bayelsa Governor Seriake Dickson, Senator
Musiliu Obanikoro, Ondo State Governor
Segun Mimiko, Ogun State Deputy Governor
Prince Segun Adesegun, left around 12:53pm
disappointed.
Jonathan of the PDP is facing a stiff
opposition to his re-election from the APC
presidential candidate, Gen. Muhammadu
Buhari.
The president, however, told his hosts that he
was in the palace to seek the monarch’s royal
blessing and support for the general elections.
He stressed that if elected, his administration
would be able to complete some of the projects
he started.
He promised Oba Adetona and other Ijebu
traditional rulers that the issues presented to
him by Oba Adekoya would be looked into, if
given the mandate..
Jonathan said: “Within the past four years,
we have tried as a government; you know
government cannot complete all projects within
four years period.
“The problem of Federal Government is that
Nigeria is a very vast country and you may
do much and some part of the country may
not even notice what you’re doing. But we
have done quite well.”

Jonathan okays oil jobs for Tompolo, Fasehun,

The Federal Government is set to execute its
new plan to safeguard the waterways and oil
pipelines.
The Presidency is believed to have directed the
Police and the Nigerian Security and Civil
Defence Corps (NSCDC) to quit the job for
some companies, which have been signed on by
the government.
The companies are owned by some former
Niger Delta militants and prominent citizens.
They include Government Tompolo;
Mujaheedin Asari-Dokubo and Chief Bipobiri
Ajube (aka Gen. Shoot-At-Sight).
There is also founder of the Oodua Peoples
Congress (OPC) Dr. Frederick Fasehun who
said last night that his company was being
considered for the multi-billion naira contract.
The OPC National co-ordinator, Otunba Gani
Adams, who is also said to be part of the
deal, declined comments last night, saying he
was at a meeting.
The takeover is said to be with effect from
March 16.
According to a source, seven companies have
been allocated “regions” or operational areas
as follows: Egbe Security River One (Bayelsa);
Gallery Security (Mosinmi -Ore); Close Body
Protection (Edo State); Adex Energy Security
(Rivers) ; Donyx Global Concept(Lagos and
Ogun); Oil Facilities Surveillance-(Delta) and
New Age Global Security (Mosinmi-Ibadan).
The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation
(NNPC) will coordinate the jobs.
Details of the deal are sketchy as only few in
government are in the picture.
A source said: “The so-called new deal for the
protection of waterways has not been made
known to members of the Federal Executive
Council, unlike in the past.
“Maybe this is an ad hoc arrangement to
achieve a political purpose because some ex-
Niger Delta militants on January 24 met at
the Government House, Yenagoa and vowed to
declare war if President Goodluck Jonathan
does not win the March 28 election.
“Asari Dokubo specifically said: “We are
going to war. Every one of you should go and
fortify yourself.”
Responding to a question, the source added:
“These former Niger Delta militants are
benefiting from all manner of pipeline
protection contracts.
“Apart from being on retainership with
NIMASA, I am aware that in 2009, a
former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Chief
Ufot Ekaette presented a memo on December
2, 2009 to the Federal Executive Council for
the award of the N1.8billion Kurutie Shoreline
Protection and Reclamation contract.
“A company, KFT Kpudoh, allegedly owned
by Tompolo and another called Phoenica
Nigeria Limited, bid for the said contract.”
Based on the advice of the Bureau of Public
Procurement, after a thorough technical audit,
the Shoreline Protection and Reclamation
Contract was awarded to Phoenica Nigeria
Limited by FEC. But the award of the contract
to Phoenica fetched Akaette death threats. The
government later reviewed the contract.”
A source in Warri, Delta State, said the
contract for pipelines in Delta State would be
executed by Oil Field Surveillance Limited, the
same company, which had previously handled
it. It is owned by Tompolo.
“What I was told is that it has been awarded
for Delta, Edo, Ondo, Bayelsa, Rivers, Lagos
and Ogun states. Like the one of Lagos State,
I learnt it’s being anchored by Dr Frederick
Fasshun and that it’s going to commence on
Monday,” the source said.
The NSCDC Deputy Commandant General in
charge of Operation, Evans Ewuurum, said the
corps was yet to receive any circular on the
contracts.
Nigeria has been battling with huge revenue
due to vandalism of oil and gas pipeline.
The Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral
Usman Jibrin, recently disclosed that Nigeria
had been losing an estimated 100,000
barrels of crude oil valued at N1.18 billion
daily to oil thieves.
This amounts to an annual loss of N433.62
billion.
The Minister of Power, Prof. Chinedu Nebo,
said pipeline vandalism led to shortage of gas
for firing power plants.
The electricity market, which has 5,500MW
installed capacity now generates an average of
3,575.85MW following paucity of gas as
vandals who always strike whenever the sector
is about to hit 4,500MW”.

Politics / PDP Plots To Postpone Election Again, Sack Jega – APC Vanguard by abdulmumini60(f): 5:46pm On Mar 01, 2015
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has
raised the alarm over the relentless scheming
by the Jonathan Administration and the PDP
to push for another postponement of the 2015
general elections, unless they can perfect a
rigging plan, and called for the imposition of
global sanctions on whoever scuttles the polls.
In a statement , Sunday, by its National
Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed,
the party said the multi-pronged efforts to
prevent the elections from holding as
rescheduled include the use of some 23
portfolio political parties to seek a further shift
in the election dates and the destabilization of
INEC’s election plan through the orchestrated
removal of its Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega.
It said the same 23 satellite parties of the
PDP that were used to push for the six-week
postponement of the elections have again
started testing the waters by pushing for a
further shift in the elections in the six-states of
the North-east, ostensibly to allow the
conclusion of the counter-insurgency battle and
also to allow those displaced to return home.
”The plan is to use the same bogey of
insecurity in the North-east to push for
another postponement in the elections. The
signs are ominous indeed. The body language
of the President and his party does not
support the holding of elections. They are
mortally afraid of losing because the use of
PVCs and Card Readers have thwarted their
rigging plans,” APC said.

Prof. Attahiru Jega addressing pressmen
shortly after interactive session with Senators
at Senate Chamber at National Assembly
Abuja. Photo by Gbemiga Olamikan.
The party said while the 23 parties are
pushing for the elections to be further
postponed, the Jonathan Administration and
the PDP are simultaneously forging ahead
with their plan to remove Prof. Jega and
replace him with a malleable acting Chairman
whom, they believe, will do their bidding.
”Once they remove Jega, his replacement will
either seek more time to organize the polls or
simply jettison the plan to use Card Readers,
thereby opening the door for those who have
been buying up PVCs to use them.
”Is it not interesting that the same
Administration that has been flaunting free
and fair elections as a key achievement has
now gone for the jugular of the same man who
organized those polls? Is the man they don’t
want not the same person who organized the
2011 polls which the Administration has
described as free, fair and credible? What
has now gone wrong between them and their
poster boy for successful elections? it queried.
APC warned that the consequences of another
postponement of the elections will be dire
indeed, especially because it will create a
constitutional crisis that is capable of
endangering the country’s democracy and
destabilizing the country in its entirety.
The party called on Nigerians, especially the
civil society, to be very vigilant in the days
ahead, as the cloud of uncertainty becomes
thicker and the vultures begin to circle.
It also called on the international community
to consider imposing stiff sanctions on key
members of the Jonathan Administration if
they force another postponement or scuttle the
polls.
”We believe that Nigerians themselves bear
the utmost responsibility for the success of their
nation’s democracy and the survival of their
country, and we commend those who have
stood up to be counted in the ongoing battle to
have free and fair elections.
”However, we also believe that the
international community has a role to play in
helping to check the desperadoes who are
using the Laurent Gbagbo rule book as if it
was made for them, and who will not hesitate
to bring the whole system crashing down on
all if that is what it will take for them to
perpetuate themselves in power.
”Nigeria is too important to be toyed with or
allowed to go under. For example, Nigerians
make up more than 56% of the estimated
ECOWAS population of 300 million. A
destabilized Nigeria, therefore, is a destabilized
West Africa and, indeed, a hobbled Africa!
”That is why we believe a travel ban and
tough economic sanctions from the
international community against these agents
of destabilization will be in order. This is a
patriotic call,” APC said.

Politics / Presidency Wants To Ground Mycampaign , Backers , Says Buhari by abdulmumini60(f): 9:53am On Mar 01, 2015
The All Progressives Congress
Presidential Campaign Organisation
( APCPCO) yesterday alleged plan by
the Presidency to ground all aircraft
being used by the party’s presidential
candidate , General Muhammadu
Buhari , as part of a grand plot to
cripple his campaign .
Also being targeted for freezing by the
authorities , according to APCPCO are
the bank accounts of stalwarts of the
party.
The Director , Media and Publicity of
the campaign team , Mallam Garba
Shehu , said in a statement that the
move to destabilise Buhari might not
be unconnected with the massive
global attention on the APC after
Buhari ’ s sterling performance at
Chatham House, London last
Thursday .
Shehu described the Presidency ’s alleged
plot as desperate , anathema , criminal
and inimical to the nation’s nascent
democracy and civilised human
behaviour .
But he vowed that any such move “will
be foiled by the citizens who have taken
over the movement of change as
symbolised by General Muhammadu
Buhari . ”
He added that the authorities plan to
“ use the Aviation Ministry and the
secret arm of the Security Service to
hound and clampdown on members of
the APC, by prospecting obnoxious
means that would ground private jets
belonging to senior members of our
party, in order to halt and slow down
Buhari ’ s world -acclaimed phenomenal
popularity as President -in- waiting.
Shehu added , “There is also a plot to
block or freeze the bank accounts of
APC chieftains like Senator Bola
Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Rotimi
Amaechi ( Director General of APC
Presidential Campaign Organisation),
and other prominent leaders believed to
be funding the General ’s campaign ; and
availing him their aircraft for
electioneering purposes . ”
Shehu recalled that private jets
conveying APC Governors including
Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State and
Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State , had
in the past being either prevented from
taking -off or landing during crucial
political occasions, particularly during
the run up to the last governorship
election in Ekiti State .
The organisation regretted what it
called PDP ’s descent into the abyss in
its desperate bid to retain power ,
stressing that the party has become so
delusional that it now fabricates
outright lies to blackmail and denigrate
the APC and its presidential candidate
and his running mate Prof Yemi
Osinbajo , all in an attempt to divert
attention from the mess it has created
in every facet of lives in the country .
He cited how the Attorney General of
the Federation ( AGF ), an appointee of
the President , used his office to do a
counter- affidavit and supporting written
address to give tacit approval to a
nocturnal group’ s desire to truncate the
use of card reader in the coming
elections .
He said: “an online news blog , Sahara
reporters , made copious public display
of the two documents ; the AGF , in
doing a volte face , denied giving
authorization to the staff members of his
Office in that ignoble service to the
Nigerian state.
“ A patriotic Nigerian soldier, Captain
Sagir Koli , had done a painstaking and
elaborate audio recording of the meeting
in which the Presidential order for the
rigging of the 22 nd June, 2014 Ekiti
governorship election in favour of the
Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP ) was
handed down.
“ Among the people present at the
meeting were : Mr . Ayo Fayose, the
greatest beneficiary of the nefarious
rigging plot , Mr. Musiliu Obanikoro
as the Minister of state for Defence ,
Brigadier -General Aliyu Momoh , the
commander of 32 nd Artillery Brigade ,
Alhaji Jelili Adesiyan, Minister for
Police Affairs , Otunba Iyiola Omisore ,
PDP governorship candidate for Osun
State .
“ Meanwhile , Ayo Fayose, Jelili
Adesiyan and Musiliu Obanikoro had
variously made statements in attesting
to the veracity of the nocturnal meeting ;
President Goodluck Jonathan , pressured
to probe the incident, peremptorily
foreclosed such investigative check when
he said ‘ If someone comes up with a
spurious allegation that has no
substance and the person disappears, of
course , what do you want me to do ?’
“ Obviously, this President is not
mindful of his oath of allegiance to the
Federal Republic of Nigeria! The
evidence of audio recording with the
available technology can be used to
ascertain the truth about the plot ,
regardless the presence or absence of
the source of it . Apparently , the
President , caught in the act of ordering
an electoral heist , is unwilling to
initiate a probe that will indict and
incriminate him .
“ The Director of Communication for the
PDP Presidential Campaign , Chief Femi
Fani -Kayode , said with uncanny
impudence that the APC Vice
Presidential candidate , Professor Yemi
Osinbajo , was made to agree to an
oath to resign six months after and
allow Senator Bola Tinubu , in the event
that APC wins the Presidential election.
“ Quite evidently, this piece of bunkum
was meant to vitiate the integrity of our
respected Vice Presidential candidate by
the band of dishonourable politicians in
the PDP . We state , without any iota of
equivocation , that this is untrue and
unfounded .
“ We have shown these examples of the
PDP -led Presidency’s conduct in
desperately laying hold at straw despite
the rejection of the Nigerian people ,
ahead of the general elections . The
resort to deliberate falsehood and
unfounded allegations represent the
PDP -led Presidency’s unmistakable
beclouding of the campaign issues of the
forthcoming election. ”

Politics / I Am Underpressure To Sellmy PVC- Watervendor by abdulmumini60(f): 8:34am On Mar 01, 2015
Ibrahim Auwal is from Funtua in
Katsina State. He is a water vendor in
the Federal Capital Territory (FCT),
Abuja. He is one among many others
who have vowed not to sell their
Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) for
monetary gains, even as he struggles to
survive. OIBOH PETER writes on the
optimistic vendor.
As the struggle to get his daily bread
continues, Auwal Ibrahim, a water
vendor, who hails from Funtua in
Katsina State, and lives in Nyanya,
Abuja says he would not sell his voters’
card despite the hardship that he faces in
Abuja. The vendor is one amongst many
Nigerians who have vowed not to sell
their voters’ card for any reason, even
though politicians have been trying to
entice them with bags of rice and cash.
According to Auwal, “one fateful day, as
I went out to do my business with some
of my friends at the point where we fetch
water, we were discussing as usual and I
was asked if I would sell my PVC for
N10,000. I was shocked by the
statement. Since then, I have being under
pressure to sell my voters’ card. I was
told by my friends that a certain
unnamed lady asked them to look out for
people with PVCs so that she could buy
them.”
It is no longer news that some people are
taking advantage of the extension given
by the Independent National Electoral
Commission (INEC) for the collection of
PVCs to perpetuate dubious agenda. In a
chat with LEADERSHIP Sunday, the
water vendor said that he is confident he
will vote in the election even though he is
under pressure to sell his voters’ card.
Auwal, who continuously expressed his
optimism about voting with his PVC,
added that he took the pains to travel
from Abuja to Funtua, his home town, to
register during the INEC registration
process. He stated that the orientation he
had on the forthcoming election from
INEC gives him confidence to participate
in the elections.
The water vendor said he had been eager
to get a voters’ card so that he could
participate in the elections, saying that
was why he made out time to travel to
Funtua to collect his PVC. He reiterated
that he has decided to vote for candidates
of his choice no matter any amount of
money anybody will give to him.
Reacting to the shift of the general
elections, he said he was not happy about
it because he had arrived Katsina, his
state of origin, for the voting before the
news came to him that the elections had
been postponed. According to him, the
little money he gathered from the water
business was spent on travelling to the
village for the election.
According to Musa Abu, brother to
Auwal, “some crooks that want to make
money from politicians and continue to
increase the suffering of Nigerians have
deviced means of buying voters cards from
the public. One however, wonders how
they want to make use of the PVCs being
purchased. Investigations revealed that
hawkers around town who have their
voters cards are being enticed with little
amounts of money to sell the card.
Also, there was a speculation that some
political campaigners go from house to
house convincing the less privileged in the
society with food items and cash to get
their votes. According to Francis Momoh,
one of the hawker, who has had a first
hand experience, some people came to him
saying they needed those that have the
PVCs and that they are ready to pay
any amount of money. He said he will
not be a victim of crooks.
Meanwhile, one of the reasons for the
shift in the election dates by the
Independent National Electoral
Commission (INEC) was for all registered
voters to use the opportunity to collect
their PVCs from the commission. No
doubt some residents of the Federal
Capital Territory (FCT) are still
struggling to collect their PVCs just like
voters in other parts of the country.
Auwal travelled on two occasions to
Funtua before he got his voters card.
In a city like the FCT, where the cost of
living is on the high side, for someone like
Auwal and others, shelter is a big
challenge, what they feed on comes from
their businesses every day. Ordinarily, it
will be difficult to believe that the water
vendor had to travel from Abuja to
register and collect his PVC against the
2015 elections, but the power to make
any change depends on votes.
and prospective voters are not leaving
any stone unturned.
