Super Eagles midfielder Mikel Obi will be eligible for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final tie against Cote d’Ivoire on Sunday, the team’s media officer has confirmed.

Meanwhile, the Confederation of Africa Football and the Local Organisisng Committee of South Africa 2013 will hold a press conference in Johannesburg this morning to announce decisions on suspensions and other matters concerning the ongoing tournament.

after Nigeria’s 2-0 win over Ethiopia on Tuesday when
it was claimed that Mikel had bagged two yellow cards in
the group stages and could miss the quarter-final clash
with Cote d’Ivoire.

Incidentally, Mikel was present at the press conference
and did not refute the claim, while CAF representative
Emmanuel Maradas said the issue would be cleared the following day.

But, after days of confusion, Ben Alaiya, the spokesman for the
Eagles, is sure Mikel will play on Sunday.

“Mikel will play because in our records he has only one yellow card,
the one he received against Ethiopia. So he has not been suspended for
the quarter-final as far as we know,” Alaiya told Complete Sports yesterday.
