Sports / Just Breaking! All Spanish La Liga Matches To Be Suspended by Acegoals: 12:54am On May 07, 2015
The Spanish football federation says it is suspending indefinitely all end-of-season games in disputes with the government, including over TV rights.

A federation statement (in Spanish) said it was also unhappy with receiving only 4.55% of pools revenue, though it said it was still open to dialogue.

All matches will be suspended from 16 May, including the domestic cup final.
In the top division, Barcelona lead La Liga rivals Real Madrid by two points, with only three games left to play.

'Players unhappy'

In the statement, the RFEF federation said it had acted after three months of talks with the government had failed to resolve the dispute.
It said more than 600,000 players and 30,000 matches across the country would be affected by the suspension.
However, it also stressed: "At the same time, and yet again, we reiterate the offer of dialogue to the Spanish government."

The RFEF acted after the government last week approved a new law on collective bargaining for TV rights.
The law - which still needs to be approved by parliament - aims to regulate the rights to broadcast matches in Spain's first and second divisions.

The government has so far made no public comment on the federation's statement.

"The initial assumption is that this move has been taken in an attempt to head off a players strike which had been threatened for that weekend," said Andy West, a Spanish football expert.

"Players are unhappy with some terms of the deal, including the low percentage of revenue on offer to lower league clubs.
"The issue of TV rights is a long-running one with most people recognising that Barca and Real receive far too much at the moment. Realigning it is not easy though," Mr West added.

You'll sure find a befitting job this new month by God's grace if you do your part and play your cards rightly well.

But first how did this Workers' Day come about?

According to International Business Times, Uk, the day was chosen to honour the people who died during a demonstration in Chicago in 1886 when workers were striking for an eight-hour working day. A bomb was thrown at the police, leading them to fire on the protesters. Four demonstrators and seven policemen died in the violence.

Please i also need a job. I studied Microbiology and i graduated with second class upper. Please am interested in ANY vacancy in kwara, osun, Ekiti or Oyo state. Thanks

Hello girl, just position yourself really well and pray too. Just a tip: Do you know you do not have to wait for a job vacancy to be released? Try as much as possible to visit you dream firm websites and try to get through to the HR via mail. Get the company name, go to LinkedIn and search for it, choose People or search for 'Human Resources, Samsung Nigeria' (as example) it will bring out every person in HR department for Samsung in Nigeria. Send a professional contact mail or get their personal mail, send your CV and a superb cover letter. Believe me, if a position comes up for which they do not want to go public, yours MAY be the first they'll look at. Now imagine if you do this for 50 companies...

1st Class? A lecturing job will best fit at this point. Anyway, if she detests teaching, God will help her securing a job too. She should craft her CV well too. And she should state in her personal statement that she made s first class, it will sell her. Your personal satement is meant to 'sell' not just 'tell'.

Jobs/Vacancies / Re: What An Excellent CV Looks Like And Know The Reasons Why! by Acegoals: 11:39am On Jan 28, 2015
OP I really want to commend you for a very nice job! Weldone.

But I will like to state that this format is a RESUME and not a CV. The different between the two is simple: RESUME is tailored to the job, the specific job while a CV is a chronological presentation of your experience, skills and YOU!

For all reading, please re-read the OP's writeup again and you'll agree with me that the OP only used 'CV' once! All through, the word 'Resume' is being used.

Check out the link where the OP copied the write up from. It say 'How an excellent RESUME' looks like...' and not 'How an excellent CV looks like...'

The title of this post should be edited so that readers will stop being MIS-LED. This post is correct for RESUMEs and not for CVs.

This is Nigeria, do not present this for any job vacancy that says 'send or submit your CV' you'll be shoved aside. However always be mindful of what is used in a vacancy advert. Some multinational companies like those of the UN (UNICEF, UNESCO, UNDP) may require RESUME. Be wise! Really experienced positions do require a resume but if you're just starting out and not up to 5, 7 or 10 years, don't think of a resume. Follow what the Job Advert says.

@Acegoals, we do our best to give you all the necessary information to ACE that goal of yours in getting a job. We are committed to that cause.

Special plea to seun and mods of this section. Please I'm sorry again for the links included on my suspended thread 'Unadvertised Job Vacancies for Today'. Kindly restore it and all perceived 'spam' links shall be removed as I could not totally do it the last time it was temporarily restored before the system logged me out. People are seriously missing out on some positions I have which would not ordinarily be found on jobs websites because they're from HR friends in other companies and I do not want to open another thread. THANK YOU!!!

Career / Re: Is It Possible To Apply As An Intern In Any Company As A 300level Student by Acegoals: 4:12pm On Dec 10, 2014
It is very much possible and a welcomed idea. You may not even need a letter from your department. Just walk up to the company with a nicely written CV and a short cover letter. Submit it to the right person and wait for a response. Better still you could try to get the email address of the company or HR Manager and send the letter and CV online.
Career / 3 Things That Starts To Loose Importance After Leaving School by Acegoals: 3:50pm On Dec 10, 2014
I had the rare opportunity of listening to Gbenga Ajayi an Online Sales Account Manager with Google responsible for Google’s biggest clients in Nigeria and he spoke briefly on the title of this post.

When in school, we all feel the energy and vigour of being young and seek relevance in the academic world, we rep our course of study and try to meet up with the tasks before us; assignments, exams, quizzes etc. But out of school is a different world where things or almost all the accolades of being a fresh graduate starts fading out. Here are 3 of such things…

Your Degree
“I am a graduate” But of what? Engineering, Communication, Law, Nursing, Education etc Yes! That’s when you just graduate. People may be concerned about the degree you have. You have BSc or BEd or MBBS, well that’s nice. But do you also know that thousands of other youths have got the same thing and are in the same job or career space as you. Therefore the question is, as time goes on, what other values are you placing on yourself? What other things or skills or achievements stands you out or places a tag of difference on you as a graduate of years before. Are you taking more courses in your field for more knowledge? The more years you’re out of school, the more your degree loses relevance and experience and professionalism speaks. So go get it!

Your Grade
As fresh graduates some persons do include their grades in their CV, but 3 to 5 years down the line after school, who cares about your grade? NO ONE! Wole Soyinka, as most people know, graduated with a third class degree (though has been refuted by the Prof. himself). But today he is a renowned personality in the society. I could go on and on to mention names. Whether you graduated with a First, Second or Third class degree or even a pass, once you have bagged that degree, people are watching and they want to see you succeed. And I as well believe that the adrenaline to succeed flows in you. Take control of your world and go out there to rule. No one cares what grade you graduated with if after you leave school and 6 to 7 months down the line there’s nothing to show for it.

Your School
University of Ilorin; of Lagos; of Nigeria; OAU, Unizik etc. Great schools right? I agree with you. But of what use is the name of your school to an employer who wants value for his/her money to be paid into your salary account every month? It is on rare cases and usually for entry level vacancies that a firm may require that you be a graduate of a particular school and most times for the SIWES program too. Three, four, five years down the line (if you do not wish to further in the same school) you may only return to your school either for the convocation ceremony or to receive your certificate and after that, the name of your school may only come up on your profile and that’s all!

So what’s the way forward? Its quite simple. The very day you left or once you left your school via the gate for further journey into the market for green pasture and impact in your world, then it is up to you to take some certain right decisions and move on for good because people are looking up to you. Be it entrepreneurship, job search or master’s degree, whatever you’ve set your mind to do, it is now up to you with God. Good morning and have a great week ahead.

Career / Re: After Graduation, What Next? by Acegoals: 4:44pm On Nov 30, 2014
Very nice question sylvalord.

But the very answer lies in what you are actually doing now while in school and its a good thing that you're asking the question very early. Thank God for you. My younger sister is in Uniben too and she's got her last 2nd year paper coming through next week.

Do not bother yourself with whether it will be boring or not or what will happen. The question I would ask now is "What are you doing now as an undergraduate?" Because what you do now determines your course after school and you may not even need to search for jobs and you'll just get the best that people are struggling for. Below is an article I wrote and I wish you read it and pass it on to your colleagues or friends also in school. I've saved you the time of clicking on a link. But here's the article and the link you can share...

PLEASE READ

Undergraduates whilst in school have many opportunities to build up themselves for the imminent future and life they are to face after school. Many have it come easy while some undergo life situations to make it out in colours and become successful thereafter. But there are some activities in school that are beneficial to undergraduates and will help them in their career after school. These activities are some I wished I had done myself but nevertheless, I’ll list them so that you reading this may start off or tell someone you know in school to begin right away.

Volunteering/Internship:
This is a sure career booster! Many undergraduates leave school with a heap load of experience up their sleeves and this puts them on edge with an advantage because they can either launch fully into their career either as an experienced personnel or graduate trainee. You can intern or volunteer during summer break. This could be for free since you’re getting quality hands-on experience of what you’re learning in school and believe me most companies will not reject your application for a free internship or volunteering.

Freelancing:
Okay, so you don’t want to give your services for free? Then freelance! Freelancing is one of the best ways of having a portfolio of your projects for clients. This is a sure career shaper for undergraduates that they may not even need to look for job after school. What can you do? Do you have skills that you think you can sell to clients for a token? Then market yourself and be a freelancer today. You can even go online with it.

Forming Partnerships:
This is one thing I did not wake up to on time while in school. Most young successful businesses today started from university partnerships(Facebook, Jobberman). And it is one of the best ways of getting it right even after school because you may have been friends or colleagues with your partners before graduation and there is more trust. Forming partnerships may not necessarily be formal. It may start from study groups, classmates, fellowship friends etc. When the time is ripe and you know there is an idea of a business that can solve a problem, sourcing capital will be easy and you can garner motivation and courage for a start-up.

Capacity Building:
Build yourself! One of the reasons why some recent graduates (without any experience) have excellent resumes is because they built themselves by trainings, seminars, conferences etc. while in school and through that they developed skills that are pertinent for their career in the immediate future. This likewise gives confidence build up and prepares you for life after school.

Networking:
Your network determines your net worth! Don’t just go through the school from the front gate and come out via the back gate. Meet people! Make the best use of every opportunity you have to get contacts and make friends. From there, partnerships can be formed and the balls can be set rolling. Mingle amongst people of intelligent and like minds and you’ll see your network grow and eventually determining your net worth. Connect on social media, get into the buzz of things and events, involve in meaningful discussions in class, online forums etc.

So, that’s it. Oh! Were you expecting more? I said five and five it shall be my dear (refer to the title and read very s l o w l y . . .) Until next time. Always remember that no one will be held responsible for your successes or failures except you and…

Wow! Good writeup! Kudos bro. Keep it coming.

One question though.

The setting (location) of the short story is not made known. Except of course it is Calabar as you almost portrayed with the traditional music in the bus.
Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Please O! What Is The Needed Length Of A CV? by Acegoals: 10:34am On Nov 20, 2014
PrinceofParis:

Have you been to an interview with a one page CV as a recent graduate. Made that mistake at my first interview and the first question was "is this all you can say about you?"....I started selling my self with skills and other competencies to be on the safe side. The next sentence was "you sound smart, but you didn't act smart with this your Resume".
Lesson, a CV is you relating to the job on paper. For me a well structured, spaced and organized 2 page CV is ok for a recent graduate.

I agree with you. In fact you are right. Do not make the mistake of going for an interview with a one page CV. Is that all you've got? No informal or even formal experience at all? No leadership roles taken during all your (at least) four years in the university or even in school fellowship? No active roles or work experience during NYSC? No internship in school or training at all? No professional, informal, or whatsoever certification? You did not belong to any group in school, lets say Rotary Club and you did not undertake any role? PLEASE THINK AGAIN!!!

As a fresh graduate do not take a one page CV to an interview please. But it is ideal that your Education comes before on your CV before your other Internship or informal or work experiences because for a graduate trainee position which no experience is required though, what I want to know first is if you are truly a fresh graduate (year of graduation) and you have the course and 2:1 or 1st class required for the job before I move to your leadership experiences which will be a plus to you and will whip up my interest in you. Good luck.
