Sports / Jose Mourinho Says 'sack Me But I Won't Quit' by Acegoals: 3:21am On Oct 04, 2015
Jose Mourinho said he will not quit as Chelsea manager and told the club they must sack him if they do not want him in charge.

The Premier League champions lost 3-1 at home to Southampton, their fourth league defeat in eight games.

"I want to make it clear. One, I don't run away," said Mourinho.

"Two, if the club want to sack me they have to sack me because I am not running away from my responsibilities or my team."

Chelsea are 16th in the table, 10 points behind leaders Manchester City, who thrashed Newcastle 6-1. "To be champions now is very difficult because the distance is considerable,"

Mourinho told Sky Sports. "But I am more than convinced that we will finish in the top four, and when the season is so bad if you finish in the top four it is OK.

"Third - and I think this is even more important than the first and the second - it is a crucial moment in the history of this club. "You know why? Because if they sack me they sack the best manager this club had."

Chelsea's tally of eight points is their lowest after eight games in a top-flight campaign since 1978-79, when a win earned two points. Only Sunderland have conceded more than Chelsea's 17 goals this season.

"They are players who are performing really, really bad individually. It is clear we are being punished by too many individual mistakes," said Mourinho.

"I assume my responsibilities. The players should assume their responsibilities.

"There are other people in the club that should also assume their responsibilities and to stick together. This is what I want.

"You know I have a big self-esteem and a big ego. I consider myself the best, having the worst period and worst results of my career.

"Doing that as a professional hurts me a lot and doing that at Chelsea hurts me twice. I want to carry on, no doubt.

"Sadness brings sadness and bad results attracts bad results."

Faulty list

How? 1st 10 or the number 1
Jobs/Vacancies / 100 Top Companies To Work In Nigeria 2015 by Acegoals: 3:41pm On Aug 20, 2015
Standards! Yes. That’s what it takes for an indigenous firm to emerge the top company in Nigeria to work for, for this year, 2015. Nigerian professionals have spoken and to a large extent, I believe this counts. Young people/professionals are found where work is innovative, pay is good and there’s an everyday drive to become better at any given time. In fact, that is one of the reasons they stay longer in a firm.

Jobberman and Ventures Africa have released the 100 Best Places to Work in Nigeria 2015 and it is quite impressive to see Konga.com take the lead while others like Drugfield Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Insight Communications Ltd, NEMA, Authentic Value Nigeria Ltd and Channels TV follow closely on the list. But first, let’s get to know the Methodology use for this survey

Methodology

In collaboration with Jobberman, Nigeria’s largest jobs search engine, Ventures Africa conducted a two-stage survey to find the best places to work for Nigeria’s Millenials. The first stage comprised 335 companies with over 6,000 respondents from entry level to executive level between the ages of 20 to 35, 65 percent of whom were gainfully employed at the time of the survey in 2014.

The index was calculated by the weighted average of each respondent’s top five companies. This was selected using parameters such as company culture, dream company, staff welfare, gender equality, government institution, company’s prestige, salary, and non-salary benefits.

The second stage of the survey accounted for the level of satisfaction and happiness of employees. This index was calculated by the weighted average of each response, which was selected using parameters such as level of satisfaction, salary consideration, level of contentment, career growth, concerns outside work, and work-life balance.

For the first stage of the survey, the oil and gas companies were once again highly ranked in a majority of the categories. Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) was first in all but one category – “Government Institution to Work For” – where the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) came out on top. However, telecommunications and fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) companies also fared well. MTN and Nigerian Breweries emerged at the forefront among organisations in these categories. The list which follows reflects the public’s perception of firms from different sectors. It also illuminates the perception of millennials who work in these organisations and partook in the survey. This year, FMCG dominated, while firms from banking, telecommunication, oil and gas, and technology were represented significantly. Konga Online Shopping Ltd was voted the number one company to work for in Nigeria, based on employee response.

THE FULL LIST

1. Konga Online Shopping

Konga is Nigeria’s leading online retailer and marketplace. Founded in 2012 as an e-commerce start-up, it has grown into a $100 million company with almost 1,000 employees. Konga maintains an open-door policy that allows the staff to feel comfortable giving opinions and sharing ideas. Chief Executive Sim Shagaya also revealed that employees own 10 percent of the company’s equity. Nneka Obiano, a marketing associate notes, “I feel very happy working here and would advise jobseekers to apply when there are openings. Konga does not only bring out the creative part in you but ensures that you enjoy work-life balance.”

2. Drugfield Pharmaceuticals Ltd

The Microsoft Word is better and more preferred than the PDF file. This is not only for the benefit of the employer but for the applicant as well. Most Applicant Tracking Systems/Softwares (at least the modern ones) may not be able to read the PDF files and old versions of the MS Word.

So play safe; send in MS Word.

Jobs/Vacancies / A Good Formula For Writing The Career Statement On Your CV by Acegoals: 2:05pm On Jul 11, 2015
What is the Personal Statement?
The Personal Statement is a short statement that summaries your CV. It is a statement that sells a candidate's qualities, experiences and career objective to an employer. The personal Statement is one of the most important parts of the CV. Sometimes, the employer/recruiter stops are reading the Personal Statement and do not go further to read the CV.

Missing it at the Personal Statement is very consequential because it is one of the only tools you have to sell what you have done and intend to do to the employer in few sentences.

Note: A Personal Statement for a CV is way different from a Personal Statement for a university application. Personal Statement for CV is shorter while that for the university application could take as much as two pages.

3 Characteristics/Components and Samples of the Personal Statement

It is important that you begin your Personal Statement with what sells you most out of the 3 components. The Personal Statement is like an advertisement; it is meant to ‘sell’ and not just ‘tell’. The Personal Statement must should have the following components as basic.

Qualities/Attributes: Most Personal Statements begin with the qualities or skills of the person. It depends on the area of approach you will come from; starting with qualities/skills augurs well for graduate CVs as experience may not have been acquired at this point. Be careful not to use buzz words like ‘innovative’ and ‘creative’. This bores the recruiter, having probably seen it in 56 other Resumes. If you must use buzz words, do not leave them as stand alone.

An example of a Personal Statement that begins with personal qualities/skills is below:

An individual with sound knowledge of SEO mechanics, social media campaign strategies, and the total workings of the Microsoft Software package. I possess vast skills and the ability to influence and communicate with hands on experience of over 3 years in content writing and development, social media management and digital marketing. I'm a self-driven person with flair for a workplace that supports innovative thinking and allows for prompt input in company overall growth.

Experience: This is the number of years you have been on a particular profession. Usually, some really experienced professionals begin the Personal Statement with something about their experience because it sells them pretty well especially when such experience cuts across various industries. If you’re a fresh graduate, I’d advise not to begin your Personal Statement with experience because you virtually have none except for internship or volunteer activities which may not sell you as well as your qualities will.

An example of a Personal Statement that begins with experience is below:

A Human Resources professional with over 26 year’s industry experience that cuts across various corporate spheres such as Recruitment, Law, Information Technology, Integrated Services, Oil and Gas, Talent Outsourcing, Telecommunications, Marketing and Digital Services, Engineering and Insurance. A Talent Manager with an enviable writing skill and the ability to successfully integrate IT with best employee management practices and training/improvement.

Career Objective: The career objective states your expectation in your career in being part of the particular firm. Here you try to succinctly present your value to the company if employed and how it will help you advance your career. For most people, it is awkward to begin the Personal Statement with career objective and it is quite rare for anyone at all because it does not really fit. The mistake fresh graduates make on their CV is to use just the career objective as their personal statement. The best thing to do to sell yourself is to include both the qualities/skills with the career objective.

Drawing from the first career/personal statement, the last sentence is an example of how you could fashion out a career objective.

To conclude on this episode of the Sample CV series, I’ll like the following to be carefully noted when writing the Personal Statement for your CV

Always know that for every job (except if is the same job position that requires the same skills) the personal statement should change
Your personal statement must be targeted at a job and not just generic. This may not be the case for fresh graduates but I strongly advise you target the job skills you’re applying for (if the title is not Graduate Trainee or Management Trainee of which the role may not be known). For example, the first career statement was for a Social Media Manager/Marketer or Copy Writer/Developer while the second is for a Human Resources specialist

Make it very short. Do not include all your skills in the personal statement especially as the next part of the cv is left for that
You can write in the first person or in the third person; just don’t use both
Use the job advert copy/ad to write the personal statement

The mistake fresh graduates make on their CV is to use just the career objective as their personal statement. The best thing to do to sell yourself is to include both the qualities/skills with the career objective.

Drawing from the first career/personal statement, the last sentence is an example of how you could fashion out a career objective.

To conclude on this episode of the Sample CV series, I’ll like the following to be carefully noted when writing the Personal Statement for your CV

1 - Always know that for every job (except if is the same job position that requires the same skills) the personal statement should change

2 - Your personal statement must be targeted at a job and not just generic.

3 - Make it very short. Do not include all your skills in the personal statement especially as the next part of the cv is left for that

4 - You can write in the first person or in the third person; just don’t use both

5 - Use the job advert copy/ad to write the personal statement
