Politics / Tinubu Plotting To Be President, Says PDP by aceguy1(m): 9:17pm On Feb 27, 2015 |
Presidential Campaign Organisation of the Peoples Democratic Party has alleged that a former Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, is plotting to become the President of Nigeria through what it called the back door. It said the plot by the former governor, who is a stalwart of the main opposition party, the All Progressive Congress, was to take over as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in the event that the APC candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari(retd.), wins the March 28, presidential election. Director of Media and Publicity of the PDPPCO, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, made this allegation at a press conference in Abuja on Friday. He nevertheless said the campaign team of the PDPPCO wished Buhari a long life. Fani-Kayode said skeletal information available to the PDPPCO suggested that the Vice Presidential candidate of the APC, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, was picked by Tinubu and “forced to take an oath” to resign his appointment six months into the new cabinet, should the APC win the elections. After his resignation, the PDPPCO further alleged that the party would field Tinubu as his replacement and to wait for the health condition of Buhari to worsen to Tinubu’s advantage. He asked Buhari to “watch his back,” adding that the “gang-up” against him and Nigerians was situated on the calculation that his health would deteriorate and lead to his death, paving the way for the expected “new vice president” to take over power. Fani-Kayode said, “It should baffle well-meaning Nigerians why Tinubu has decided to draft Buhari, despite his age, acrimonious background and questionable health status, into the presidential race whilst ensuring that his stooge, Prof Osinbajo, was foisted on the general as vice presidential candidate. “The reason is that the PDPPCO wishes to use this forum to expose the ungodly plan by Tinubu to seize the presidency of Nigeria by subterfuge. “You will recall how Tinubu wanted to be running mate to Buhari in spite of the nationwide resentment for Muslim-Muslim ticket that he and Buhari planned to foist on their party men and women. “Senator Tinubu had justified the (planned) ticket by saying that competence was the important thing and not the issue of religion. “But when he and Buhari could not push through the agenda within the APC, he (Tinubu), after been given the opportunity to nominate a vice presidential candidate, decided to prop up his stooge in the person of Prof Osinbajo. “Now, the real reason Tinubu nominated Osinbajo has been made known to us and we hereby offer a public service to the Nigerian people by drawing national attention to it. Credible pieces of information at our disposal indicate that Tinubu has perfected plans to come to power through the back door. “Tinubu, according to our information, has compelled Osinbajo to swear to an oath that after six months in office, he would resign as the vice president, in the unlikely event that their party wins. The wicked plot, as laid out by them, is to force Osinbajo to resign for Tinubu to be nominated by Buhari as his replacement.” Fani-Kayode added, “The ultimate objective of this plot is to ensure that Tinubu becomes President. The script is simple: given the questionable health of Buhari, Tinubu, who is desperate to be president for his own selfish reasons, will simply bid his time in the evil expectation that Buhari will not be able to go the whole hog. “How wicked can those that hatched this plan be? How unfair can they be to the North, to Buhari and to Nigerians? We wish Buhari long life. Senator Tinubu’s dangerous plan is about getting power. This is sad. No thoroughbred Yoruba man or indeed Nigerian wants to get power through the misfortune of another person. “But this is the perfidious path that Tinubu is passing through. This is repugnant.” |
Agriculture / N1bn Lost Daily To Rice Importation —FG by aceguy1(m): 8:00am On Feb 26, 2015 |
THE Federal Government has said that the country loses about N1 billion everyday from importation of rice, even as it assured that Nigeria will soon stop importing the grains. Special Adviser to the President on the New Partnership for Africa’s Development, NEPAD, and African Peer Review Mechanism, APRM, Mrs. Fidelia Akuabata Njeze, disclosed this at a one-day stakeholders’ forum on the establishment of the Nigeria/ECOWAS rice sector policy and regulation advocacy platform, in Abuja. She added that due to the importation of rice, Nigeria had been exporting jobs and financial resources for the transformation of the domestic rice sector in the country. Speaking in similar vein, Ministry of Agriculture, Dr. Akinwunmi Adesina, also assured that “Nigeria is already at exit door from importation.” The minister said this when he inspected the 420 hectares of rice farm and mill owned by Olam Nigeria Limited in Rubuki near Doma, Nasarawa State. He said 2.9 million metric tonnes of high quality milled rice was expected to be produced from the farm starting from the next farming season. The minister noted that with the importation of about two million metric tonnes of rice per annum, the issue of rice import will soon stop. “We are going to be the Thailand of Africa in terms of rice production and export,” Adesina said The minister also said no fewer than 670 jobs were created in 2013 through rice production. He disclosed that 1.9 million metric tonnes of rice was produced in the 2013 dry and wet seasons thereby contributing N320 billion to the Gross Domestic Product, GDP.

Politics / Amosun To Fayose - No Sane Person Will Wish Another Dead by aceguy1(m): 7:52pm On Feb 23, 2015 |
The Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has berated the Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, for his continuous scathing remarks about the health status of the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari(retd.), saying Buhari is stronger than Fayose. He said this on Monday while speaking with journalists after meeting with 705 community development associations and cooperative societies in the state at the June 12 Cultural Centre, Kuto, Abeokuta. Fayose’s recent remarks came on the heels of the ongoing visit by the APC presidential candidate to the United Kingdom, where he met former Britain’s Prime Minister, Tony Blair, among other engagements. The Ekiti State governor had alleged that Buhari had gone for a check-up on his alleged failing health, instead of a working visit as claimed by the APC. But Amosun said it was not in the character of the Yoruba to wish anyone death. He said, “It’s a big shame from the quarters where the allegation came from. We are Yoruba. “There is an unwritten rule: t’aba n ja, bi ti ka ku ko (Even if we are quarelling, it is not to wish each other dead). “Even in this instance, we are not fighting. We want to represent our people. How can a sane person wish somebody else dead. It is a disgrace to our race as Yoruba for somebody to be wishing another person dead. “For your information, General Muhammadu Buhari is even stronger than the character that is saying the man is weak; maybe because of the military background.” Amosun, who was part of Buhari’s entourage to the UK, said he had to struggle to catch up with the 72-year-old retired General, despite his own age of 57. He said, “Even because of the way I walk, it’s like catching up with him. For his age, maybe because of his military background. It’s like seeing Baba Obasanjo too and say he’s old. “This is the man that is very agile; we are even telling him that you have to slow down. This is the man that we met together with Tony Blair. We left the place and we went to about five different places. The man is hale and hearty. “Even when we went to Ben Television, I told him ‘you can’t follow me, you have to go home’. He was willing, he was ready even in the cold. The man was walking round.” He further berated the ruling party for going viral on the Internet with falsehood, on the purported visit of Buhari to a London hospital. He added, “You can see the photoshop they are using; they are saying a lot of rubbish. This is not politics. It is descending to an abysmal level and I think all lovers of democracy and all lovers of humanity should caution them. “Politics shouldn’t be like this; saying that he (Buhari) has three months to live. They are just talking rubbish. “Politics will finish. Where would they be when you begin to talk this rubbish? I think it’s a shame and I think they are descending to a level that is unheard of, that negates reasonableness and good thinking. It’s against our tradition as Yoruba.” While talking about his administration’s interaction with the CDAs and cooperative societies, Amosun said he had gone to all the 236 wards in the state and met all the CDAs in their various locations.
