PoliticsI Have Been Vindicated – Etiebet by acesoul(op): 9:22pm On Mar 31, 2015
A member of the Board of Trustees, Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Don Etiebet, said he has been vindicated by the defeat of the PDP to the All Progressives Congress in the 2015 presidential election. He stated that when he discovered a crack in the party structure, he tried to get access to President Goodluck Jonathan but the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr. Godswill Akpabio, did not allow him or any other persons from the state access to the president. Etiebet added that what happened on Tuesday’s elections announcement was as a result of rebellion against the PDP. He added that half of the votes from the PDP controlled-states propelled the APC to victory.
The former petroleum minister stated that by the president’s actions in congratulating Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari(retd.) on the victory, saying it was a new beginning for the country’s politics.According to him, the result is exciting, adding that it was historic for the incumbent president in Nigeria to lose in an election.Etiebet said, “I will also like to say that it was not APC winning, it was not PDP losing. Do you know that from the analysis, the total number of votes lost by PDP controlled-states was more than half of the total number of APC winning votes? “You can analyse what happened by yourself. You will discover that somebody was misled somewhere, somehow; attention was not paid by the PDP hierarchy and the people had to rebel.“This is a rebellion against the party, including myself. I did everything to let them know that they were on a wrong course, but my Governor (Akpabio) tried to bring a local politics to national level; that he will not allow anybody else access to the president and to the leadership of the party.“And by God’s grace, I have been vindicated today. It is the PDP that lost the election.”
Etiebet stated that governorship elections in April 11 will follow the suit. The APC governorship candidate in Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Umana Umana, said he was happy that his party won the presidential election. He said, “I am happy that my party, APC, is behind the wind of change blowing across Nigeria.“With Buhari, the era of impunity has finally come to an end. The moment is historic for Nigeria. Buhari has character; he has what is required to turn Nigeria round, politically and economically.”
APC member and House of Representatives candidate for Uyo Federal Constituency, Mrs. Dora Ebong, said she was happy about the outcome of the presidential election. She stated that she did not have confidence in the electoral process because of the way a single man hijacked the process in Akwa Ibom State. She added, “In the just concluded presidential election, I went round the 42 wards in my Federal Constituency and I told my people that even if Akpabio succeeds in stealing all the votes from Akwa Ibom State for Jonathan and he did not win the vote in Kano, Borno or Sokoto, it will be sheer nonsense.”Former Commissioner for Information, Mr. Ita Awak, said thousands of PDP members had defected to the APC overnight. He stated that with what had happened, the state was ready to vote in “the peoples governor”, April 11

PoliticsYDP May Seek Poll Cancellation In Court by acesoul(op): 1:51am On Mar 31, 2015
The Young Democratic Party on Monday said it would proceed to court to seek the cancellation of the 2015 elections, following its exclusion from the ballot papers by the Independent National Electoral Commission as excuse. The party specifically said that the action fell short of the Electoral Act.
A statement issued in Abuja by the National leader of YDP, Henry Nwabueze, said the Prof. Attahiru Jega-led commission deliberately refused to include the party in the ballot even when it was clear that YDP had fulfilled the requirements having been proclaimed a political party. He said, “In compliance with the law, YDP submitted the list of its candidates to INEC for this 2015 general elections.
Today, the Young Democratic Party regret to inform Nigerians that INEC has failed because it unlawfully refused to include YDP in the 2015 general election ballot paper.“By this, INEC is practising democracy of the few, by the few and for the few. Accordingly, YDP calls on INEC to cancel the just-concluded March 28, 2015 Presidential and National Assembly elections and refrain from announcing the results, including the names of the winners or losers in that election.“Indeed, by virtue of the Electoral Act, Section 78, sub-section 4, YDP became a registered political party in Nigeria as of May 2, 2014. Although INEC is fully aware of this fact and in spite of numerous notifications, it nevertheless proceeded, against common sense and reason to exclude YDP in this 2015 general election.“This action of INEC is deliberate, violative of the Electoral Act, violative of the constitution and quite frankly, offensive to all notions of fair play and justice. In view of the unlawful exclusion of YDP, a lawfully registered political party in violation of the Electoral Act and a subsisting Federal HighCourt judgement, the leadership of YDP and its National Executive Council has resolved to proceed to court to seekfor cancellation of the March 28 presidential election and conduct of fresh polls to include YDP.”

PoliticsIslamic Group Warns INEC Against Repetition Of June 12 by acesoul(op): 12:41pm On Mar 30, 2015
The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) spokesman, Prof. Ishaq Akintola, who spoke with National Mirror correspondent on Sunday commended Nigerians for showing high-level patriotism by coming out en masse to cast their votes.
He reportedly warned the INEC to avoid a repeat of the June 12 uproar, and urged politicians to relentlessly continue to calm their supporters in order to avoid violence before and after the announcement of the results. The religious body also tasked the electoral commission to treat the results with dispatch.

“INEC is advised to avoid unnecessary delay because this is capable of generating tension. We call on the Federal Government and the security agencies to fully respect INEC’s independence. Breathing down INEC’s neck or arm-twisting it at this crucial period should not be contemplated,” Akintola said. MURIC called the Federal Government’s attention to the June 12, 1993 debacle, and lamented that the poll that was considered the most free, fair and peaceful in Nigeria’s political history was criminally and callously annulled by the then military government.

“We all know what followed. There was widespread civil disobedience. Sanctions were imposed on Nigeria by Western powers. Life became unbearable and we are yet to fully recover from its impact 22 years later. Nigeria must not repeat the June 12 conundrum,” he said.
MURIC also urged stakeholders to allow INEC do its job without any interference or hindrance.

Meanwhile, the June 12, 1993 election is believed to be the freest and most credible election that has ever been conducted in Nigeria. The election was won by a business mogul, Chief M. K.O. Abiola, but was criminally and callously annulled by the then military government of General Ibrahim Babangida.

Abiola was jailed by Babangida for claiming to be the winner of the annulled poll, and while he was in incarceration, he died under mysterious circumstances.

However, fears associating with a repeat of the June 12 palaver might be a welcome call when one considers the recent comment of the national chairman of the Third Republic National Republican Convention (NRC), Chief Tom Ikimi.

Ikimi, who was a former member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), but recently defected to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was quoted as saying: the North should wait for 2019 before vying for presidency.

PoliticsVoting Counting Ongoing With Mobile Phone Lighting In Lugbe by acesoul(op): 10:34pm On Mar 28, 2015
Counting of ballots and collation of results have commenced
following the conclusion of voting in polling stations in the
FCT and across the state, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN)
reports.
A correspondent of NAN monitoring the process at the
Lugbe Market Polling Unit, reports that vote counting was in
progress under the cover of darkness, with mobile phones
as the only lighting source.
However, the exercise was being conducted under the
watchful eyes of security personnel, party agents and
voters, as there was no other alternative.
With accreditation of voters starting at 10.40 a.m., voting
stretched up to 7.03 p.m. from 3 p.m. as against the INEC
schedule of 5 p.m.
A total of 449 voters were accredited at the unit as against
the 1,666 expected, according to party agents.
They blamed the situation on the fact that many eligible
voters earlier scheduled to vote at the ACO/Sabon Lugbe
units failed to show up, due to the cancellation of the units
by INEC.
NAN learnt that the voters were only informed of the merger
of the ACO/Sabon Lugbe and Lugbe Market Polling units
this morning, a development which angered them.
They decided to disperse to their various homes due to the
distance involved, as mobility constituted a challenge.

Sporadic shootings was witnessed around 10:30am Saturday in Ozuaha community in Ikwerre Local Government Area. Thugs who had barricaded the road into the town, opened fire on a team of policemen and military police escorting Corps members to their polling unit.
The gun duel which lasted for about 25 minutes, has since left the town looking like a ghostyard. According to a police officer who helped brought the situation under control, the armed thugs advanced towards Ubima, hometown of governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi.
As a result of the development, the corpers and electoral materials were kept in several buses, preparing to leave the community. Our correspondent who arrived the area 5 minutes after the gun duel, saw pieces of shattered ballot boxes on the major road leading into the town. Tension was still very high when our correspondent left the area 30 minutes later.

PoliticsFew Hours To Election, Read What Buhari Is Telling Jonathan To Do by acesoul(op): 11:27pm On Mar 27, 2015
Few hours to the presidential election, the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Rtd. Gen. Muhammad Buhari has cautioned President Goodluck Jonathan. Vanguard reports Buhari has called on President Goodluck Jonathan to call to order security agencies who are straying from the proper cause according to the peace pact signed recently. This, the retired general made known in a press statement today. Here is the full text below:

On Thursday, March 26th, President Goodluck Jonathan and I signed a new accord reinforcing our commitment to violent-free elections. The new accord is a follow up to the Abuja Accord which we signed, along with nine other party leaders, on Jan. 14th 2015, to show our commitment to free, fair and credible elections in our dear country. I take these accords very seriously, and this has reflected in the issues-based campaign which I ran all through the period of electioneering campaign, despite the provocative and sleazy campaign directed at my person and my party. But recent developments across the country, ahead of Saturday’s elections, run against the contents and spirit of the peace accords. For example, the ink with which we signed the new peace accord had barely dried when we started hearing reports of violence directed against members of our party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), as well as glaring acts of harassment and intimidation being carried out against the opposition by security agents across the country. Advertisement Shots were fired at the convoy of the Director General of my Campaign Organization, His Excellency Gov. Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State, in Rumuolumeni, Obio Akpor area of Port Harcourt, a few hours after the second peace accord was signed, leaving two persons injured. I do hope this is not a confirmation of the information reaching my party that some notorious security agents have been deployed to Port Harcourt to restrict the movement of Gov. Amaechi. In Ondo State, a serving APC member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Eniolorunda Omosule, was arrested and detained by the police for no reason other than to keep him away until after elections, while we have heard reports of an alleged meeting in Ibadan between the Commissioners of Police in the South-west and PDP officials. In Imo, we have read of how more than 30 armed mobile policemen were unleashed on some APC youths at Mbutu in Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area, with the policemen firing indiscriminately, smashing doors and windows and arresting some of the youths, while there are alleged plans to deploy troops clothed in DSS uniforms to the South-west to help the PDP to rig the elections. These are worrisome developments, more so because they involve security agencies, which are supposed to be neutral and professional in carrying out their constitutional duties of protecting the lives and property of Nigerians, irrespective of their party affiliations. I remain committed to the two peace accords which we signed to ensure free, fair, transparent and peaceful elections on Saturday and on April 11th, and once again I urge all my supporters to shun all acts of violence, even in the face of the worst kind of provocations.

However, the wordings of the accords must mean something if indeed they are the paper they are writing on. The new peace accord we signed on Thursday called on INEC and all security agencies ”to ensure strict adherence to their constitutional roles”. This is the minimum requirement for us to have credible elections. When those who are being paid to protect Nigerians turn around to unleash violence on them, it portends great danger for the polity. With less than 24 hours to the Presidential elections, I call on President Goodluck Jonathan to immediately call the errant security agencies to order, in the spirit of the peace accords. The President should make it clear that any security agent who engages in acts that are inimical to the success of the elections will face the full wrath of the law.

During the good old time of Gen. buhari, One Dollar was less than one Naira It is really incredible today the tallness in the difference...During the good old times everything was on first come first serve basis, there was zero tolerance for corruption. During the good old times Oil refineries in port Harcourt, Warri & Kaduna were built & running at full capacity. Anybody with questionable wealth was afraid to display it in public and there was Zero tolerance for indiscipline. During the Good old time everything was in order, Nigeria had no debt at all, Twenty oil depots were built and functioning, Western world can't interfere, Chad invaded were sent them packing but did not harness their Land. During the good old time our economy was NOT running on generator, we can sleep with our eyes closed because we were secured, Countries like Indonesia and Malaysia need not to set example on how to deal with drug ushers. During the Good old times Littering the public place was a crime, the Maitaseine Islamic Sect insurgency in the North was crushed on record time.

we want those days when Buhari was a military Governor but did not amass illegal wealth, we want those days when Buhari was a Minister of Petroleum but did not hire a private jet for N10 billion. 19. We want those days when Buhari was a Head of State but did not loot the Treasury.

We want those days when
Buhari was Head of PTF but did not steal the
Fund even in the days of Abacha when
stealing was the order of the day We can't afford another 4yrs of waste in the hands of PDP!!! Take us BACK to the good old days of this our great nation.
