Art, Graphics & VideoRe: Divided We Stand: Synergy In The Industry? by AdamuW: 12:12pm On Jun 25, 2008
I agree that anyone with any sense knows that if the Nigerian visual creative industry is to stand any chance of progressing then companies and individuals have to join forces in order to handle higher end and more specialised jobs. I feel from my limited research, those in the web development and software arena are already starting to do form alliances. But the 3D animation/visualisation field, which is my core area, is not even close to doing this yet. But looking at the forum there have been some notable lights who have being doing their best by giving 200% to push things forward. No need to mention them as they, and we all know who they are.We all know the Nigerian terrain is not the best for our various industries but that is changing fast.

What I would like to do is to offer some practicioners in the various fields the opportunity to meet up in one place in a professional setting, free of charge. It will be a chance to have a face to face meeting where people can introduce themselves, show their work and discuss. Let's call it a small real world version of this forum. My office is based in Abuja so that is where the meeting will take place. We have facilities to host around 10-15 if there is that much interest. Those into these fields should attend:
[li]3D Animation
Visual Post Production
Editing
Web Design
Web Development
Graphic Design
Digital Photo Manipulation (Photoshop etc)[/li]
[li][/li]
One key thing to stress is that I see a lot of egos flying around on the forum. That is NOT what this is about and you better leave that at the door if you want to attend this. This is about a cooperative effort to push things forward so our various industries can be taken seriously and develop properly.

I am also a realist. Nothing might come of this and there might be no interest whatsoever. But we have to move beyond just talking about things.

I am very busy so I might not reply to posts on time but I always make it a point to check in at least twice a week.

So the ball is your court guys, Let's see how serious some of you out there.

All the best,

Adamu

I think 3D Nigeria should be kept alive. I stumbled across it earlier this year and was dissapointed to see it go down. I appreciate it is hard to keep such a thing going outside of work hours etc so I applaud you for it. I am not into web design etc so I can't help in that regard. However I have experience in 3d and 2d motion graphics. I can probably help in giving general advice and posting up work examples.

'Dje' I took a look at your website. Good quality work. I especially liked the indoor renderings done for Alphines and Cardinni. Thanks for getting in touch via email. It would be good to arrange a meeting.

'Damseremie' I checked out the '3d modelling & Animation' topic to see your work. Do you have any more recent examples you can show? I couldn't get access to the 3Dnigeria website and the examples you posted are more than a year old. I am asking because, judging it on a professional level, I think the images I saw need more work. However 1 year is a long time in computer graphics so I am sure your skills have now improved. That is why I am asking if you have any more recent work to show. I will drop you an email.

Always interested in meeting people in the field 'ninelives'. Could you you post up some of your works so I can get an idea of which area of graphics you are in? If client confidentiality is an issue that is no problem. I will contact you by email anyway. Thank you very much for replying. I forgot to leave my contact email last time round. Here it is 'Adamu.W@e-black.net '

I thought I would resurrect this topic. I have recently set a small CGI consultancy in Abuja. We are yet to start fully operating but I'm looking for 3D animators/Modellers, photoshop operators etc. If things pick up we will be looking for such people to use on a freelance/permanent basis. At the moment the type of work we specialise in is high quality 3Darchitectural visualisation. Main software pipeline is AutoCAD, 3D studio MAX, Photoshop. Obviously your skill level has to be decent.I have attached some images of recent projects we have worked on.

All the best.

PoliticsRe: 'All Nigerians Are Corrupt', Says Oprah Winfrey by AdamuW: 10:48am On Jul 27, 2007
No one still has provided a link that either shows Oprah saying this or at least has a direct quote of her saying 'ALL nigerians are fraudsters'. So it seems like people are getting incredibly angry over hearsay and rumour. If all her program said was that there are some Nigerian fraudsters then what's new? It's nothing that hasn't been said by other Nigerians in this forum already.

On a general point what I think we can take issue with is lazy international jounalism and media practices. Basically what I mean is that when the Western media organisations want to talk about corruption they immediately point to Nigeria as a prime example. Of course corruption goes on in all countries but we are currently an easy media target. The same as when they talk about terrorism, they point to Al quaeda, when they want to talk about famine they use Ethiopia. It's media shorthand.

As far as I am concerned, to make the world see us in a different light we have to start here at home. When we as a country are a force to be reckoned with globally then the rest of the world will see us in that way and be more respectful. Japan did it decades ago, China and India are now taking the lead. Those countries are far from perfect but they are taking giant strides in progression. I hope we will do it eventually. It will be a hard long road. We have the talent in abundance to get there. The reasons stopping us have been talked about many times over in this forum so I won't go there.

As for Oprah, never really liked her programs etc. Have no time for them. It's nothing personal against her. Whatever anyone thinks about her you have to acknowledge the achievements made as a black woman in America and to sustain it over decades. That is not easy. But I don't depend on her to know what is going on in my country. Shouting all kinds of insults at her without proper evidence doesn't really solve anything.
Art, Graphics & VideoRe: Graphics Gurus: What's Amazing About This Picture? by AdamuW: 5:03pm On Jul 26, 2007
It looks like an optical illusion to me. Everything in the picture is real. The painting of the globe is real but designed to look in proportion from the exact position the camera is placed. Thats why the people are looking at the globe because from their angle it probably looks really distorted. But if they walk round to where the person holding the camera is placed then they'll see what we see. That is my guess.

Hi Kashikapor,
I've recently set a small 3D animations studio in Abuja. We focus mainly on stills but also do animations as well. I personally have Character Animation experience. I took a look at the Pepsi Link you sent. The Character Animation element of it is not too complex as long as you have the characters modelled and rigged. Basically we are not talking Character animation to the level of Shrek etc. As Yomi said, if you have more info about what the character is and what they are meant to do, that would be more helpful. If that is confidential to the project then we can get in touch privately. If you would like to take a look at our standard of work, as we are new to Nigeria's market, give me an email and I can send you a link to our portfolio. All the best with the project otherwise.
