@DisneyGirl There are few places in Abuja to get steady work as a 3D animator in Abuja. However I would recommend @zpixel's offer. I know he's someone who values animators so that's a good place to start and is focused on creating innovative projects. Which is quite difficult in the Nigerian context. We're not doing that much 3D work at our studios for now but feel free to drop by when you are in town. We're one of the few dedicated animation studios in Abuja. All the best with your search. |
[flash=560,345] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oVjauvEWd3s?version=3&hl=en_GB&rel=0[/flash] A bit of fun for the kids, :-) |
This is an interesting topic. Especially as I love cartoons and I'm part of a production team that's recently released a new Nigerian educational cartoon for kids. I had this same discussion with a friend of mine last night who is a father. Getting the balance right is tough as a parent is tough. First of all getting the right T.V./reading/physical activity balance. Then when children do watch T.V. what type of programmes do they watch? It's not easy. |
Hi guys. Here’s an update on our Nigerian educational cartoon project for kids called Bino and Fino. We are working on new full episodes. But in the meantime we’ve decided to make our You tube channel a free resource of educational clips and episodes for families with children. Below are a few videos that can be seen on the you tube channel. Feel free to subscribe to the channel to make sure you don’t miss upcoming uploads. We aim to do one every 1-2 weeks. bzredder:Thanks for your thoughts. @bzredder |
[flash=560,349] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KI_-VCUr5Ys?version=3&hl=en_GB&rel=0[/flash] Pidgin English version Hi All. At my company we’re currently working on a Nigerian educational cartoon project. Some of those who have seen the cartoon have asked us to do a version in pidgin English. So we did a little example to ask people what they thought about it. So do you think a Nigerian’s children’s cartoon should have a pidgin English version? [flash=560,349] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NGY_VhD2MO4?version=3&hl=en_GB&rel=0[/flash] Standard English version Here's the post regarding this debate on our blog. http://binoandfino./2011/07/12/to-pidgin-or-not-to-pidgin/ |
Nice One. I liked the way each new type of dance was introduced. Visually top notch work as always. The only thing I didn't like was the slightly green tint of the piece. |
[flash=560,349] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a_S1cS4XTBQ?version=3&hl=en_GB&rel=0[/flash] A bit of fun for the kids. |
afam4eva:That's the idea. We want to reach the children where the 'naturally reside'. Like it or hate it, kids love cartoons. So one might as well use that medium to educate them. |
rastaman20:Thank you very much. Look out for the others. |
[flash=560,349] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vNlPvLoBY9g?version=3&hl=en_GB&rel=0[/flash] Here's some vedeo footage of the Abuja event. What was important was seeing the children and getting feedback from them, their parents and teachers. Thanks to those who came down such as @idmanzik . |
[flash=560,349] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vNlPvLoBY9g?version=3&hl=en_GB&rel=0[/flash] This is a video from the lauch of our Nigerian educational cartoon in Silverbird cinema in Abuja. The event took place on Saturday the 18th. |
[flash=560,349] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4foYm7VIhpQ?version=3&hl=en_GB&rel=0[/flash] We are working on Nigerian educational cartoon project called Bino and Fino. It will be used to teach various aspects of history, education and languages. This is a segment from the cartoon where one of the characters learns how to count in Igbo. We will do the same for other languages and will post those up once done. |
idmanzik:I really appreciate the feedback. We might be holding another screening with a few new things in a few weeks. So I'll keep you updated. Maybe your bro's friends etc might be interested. |
idmanzik:Many thanks man. I just replied on your other post. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Plenty of work still left to do. |
What?! You came? Why didn't you come and say hello as a fellow Nairalander? It would have been good to meet you. Thanks for coming down. We really appreciate it. |
idmanzik:Nice one. Thanks for supporting. See you tomorrow. |
Tomorrow is the day of the screening finally. Hopefully we'll see some of you there. |
I would say go for it but be as smart as you can. Make sure you have identified who will buy and where they can buy from before you even start.That would be my advice. Distribution will be tough. I'm not clear where your intended market is but it sounds like it's Nigeria. All the best with it. |
omo9ja1:@omo9ja1 Thank you. We have improved things since the youtube episode. But of course you can always keep improving. If you look at the first episode of the Simpsons or Sesame Street they are totally different to what we see now. popoyeh:@popoyeh Thank you. |
OKX:@OKX Thanks. We're just following in your footsteps and all the other pioneering Nigerian animators out there. Wizardofoz:@Wizardofoz Hello. Actually this was a nationwide effort which reflects the values of the Bino and Fino Cartoon project. Talent from many corners of the country took part in production.As the creator I want the cartoon to promote togetherness amongst our people and not splits along tribal lines. |
[img]http://binoandfino.files./2011/06/abuja-launch-flyer-for-upload.jpg[/img] To mark the Day of the African Child we will be having an Abuja launch and screening of the Bino and Fino Nigerian educational cartoon project. Here are the event details. 'Bino and Fino is a cartoon series about a brother and sister named Bino and Fino who live with their grandparents ‘Mama’ and ‘Papa’ in a modern day city in Africa. Bino and Fino have many adventures where, with the help of their friend Zeena the Magic Butterfly, they discover and learn things about the world. We will be having the Abuja premiere of the cartoon on Saturday the 18th of June at Silverbird Cinemas in the Silverbird Entertainment Centre. There will be two screenings. They will take place at Cinema Hall 1. (If demand increases we might switch halls but that will be clearly indicated on the day of the event) The hall will be open from 12:00pm. The first screening will be free and will start at 12:30. The second screening will take place at 1:45 and will not be free. The charges are N1000 for adults and N500 for children.’ It’ll be a nice event for children and parents to attend. For all of you animators based in Abuja it would be a good opportunity to see and critique a local animated production on a big cinema screen. It’d be good to see you there. Lagos hang tight we'll be coming to you soon. Bino and Fino website http://www.binoandfino.com Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/binoandfino Blog: http://binoandfino./ |
Well some people have already started. Check out Spaceboy Nigeria http://spaceboynigeria.com/ . He's a very strong advocate for Nigerian comics. There are other artists and companies which you can find out about via his Blog. I know in 5 years the Nigerian comic/animation scene will be quite different as there are many projects now in development. We hope you support them when they come out. |
Ok now I understand about the last skit. I feel you on the political front. You guys keep flying the flag on that and we'll try to join you when we can! It's very important what you are doing. keep it up. We all know it's not easy. |
@zpixel Nice work as always. I didn't quite get the ending skit though. Also have small issues with the editing and pace but that's all subjective. Will watch again and spread the word. Keep it up. We're itching to get back to the political sketches as well but we're focusing on the kids project for now. It's hard to do when there's so much juicy political material to comment on. All the best. |
@Grandtener, Good advice but it's a bit off topic. :-) |
Interesting. Obviously it's something that needs to be studied carefully. There's pros and cons to such schemes. I don't know enough about it to make a judgement yet. However just because the US and UK etc are going crazy collecting everyone's data doesn't mean we should do the same by default. I do know many citizens in both countries think their governments have gone too far in collecting and monitoring data to the point that it's almost a police state. One only has to look at elements of the U.S. Patriot act to see how dangerous this can be. So we have to take things step by step and consult with the public. Of course this consultation won't happen by the way. :-) I know that. I'm just saying that's the ideal thing to do. |
grafikdon:@Grafikdon Thanks man. Long time no see. I hope all's going well on your front. I managed to speak to Segun a few months ago. You guys are doing great things. Looking forward to the next instalment. aphek:@Aphek No problem. We don't have to agree. Whatever gets the results. |
texazzpete:@Texazzpete The original post was about Sesame Street not our animation that's why I didn't put our cartoon video up in this post. But we had to post a pilot episode on Youtube, Facebook, Nairaland etc last year to get feedback from people and what we had to improve. There's one thread about it. Here is the video. [flash=560,349] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rQ5sOMOYwkQ?fs=1&hl=en_GB&rel=0[/flash] |
aphek:@aphek That's fine. Both methods can create amazing worlds depending on the imagination and skill of the team behind the project. But I do know that I can mock up a design concept with characters, rig it and get animating etc faster in 2D than in 3D. I have fair exprience in both so does my team and we agree on that. But it's animation so it's subjective to an extent. One thing that was definite was the speed of production of the 2D techniques we used over the 3D ones we researched. |
