Five-year-old Romanian weightlifter becomes Internet star

Giuliano Stroe has six-pack abs before turning six years old. And he's also in the Guinness Book of World Records before he can probably even read it.

Though it's highly unusual (and possibly unhealthy) for a child to start weight training at such a young age, the pre-schooler entered the record books earlier this year after completing the fastest ever 10-meter walk with a weight ball between the legs, which is both both highly impressive and highly specific. Since then, a four-minute video of Stroe has hit the Internet and made him a viral sensation.

It looks like a training montage from a Rocky movie, minus the Survivor soundtrack. (And, interestingly, Guiliano Stroe is almost the same size as Sylvester Stallone.)

EducationGovt Ready For 40 Per Cent Pay Rise For ASUU by ade4cool27(op): 8:43pm On Aug 25, 2009
THE end to the lingering strike by university lecturers appears not to be in sight as the federal government yesterday said it could pay only 40 per cent salary increase against the 109 per cent being demanded by Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

Speaking on behalf of the federal government in Abuja, the leader of the ASUU/FG RE-negotiation Committee, Mr, Gamaliel Onosode said the initial agreement reached between the Federal Government and ASUU could not be sustained and as such, the government had made an offer of only 40 per cent salary increase.

"I consider it most desirable to reconvene without delay the Re-negotiation Committee now that I have received my Principal's definitive reaction to the provisionally agreed salaries. The purpose of this meeting, therefore, is to afford me, in my capacity as Leader of the Government Team, the opportunity to present to you the Academic Staff Salaries, which are acceptable to the Federal Government as affordable and sustainable," Onosode said.

Onosode also disclosed that subsequent negotiation on proposed salaries and other matters covered by the provisional draft Agreement, which was initiated by both team leaders, would be between the federal government and individual university councils with their appropriate staff unions.

As if not comfortable with their offer, the Federal Government's delegation felt reluctant to announce their offer to journalists but repeatedly stated that the federal government did not feel it could afford the 109 per cent increase demanded by ASUU and as such, could not adopt their demand. However, when pressure persisted that their offer be made public for proper enlightenment of the Nigerian public and stakeholders in the education sector, Onosode announced that government could only afford and sustain 40 per cent increase in view of the country's economic standing.

On funding of tertiary institutions, Onosode also said that definitive action has been taken by the government, towards improving infrastructural and instructional facilities as well as staff development through the Education Trust Fund (ETF) while the retirement age of 70 years remains. According to him, the relevant Amendment Bill is currently before the National Assembly.

"I should mention also at this point that definitive action has already been taken by government on the issue of funding with a view to improving university infrastructural and instructional facilities and staff development through the ETF," he said.

However, ASUU was not represented at the meeting to confirm their acceptance or rejection of the offer.

EducationWhy Study Abroad? by ade4cool27(op): 8:37pm On Aug 25, 2009
Studying abroad may be that defining moment in your education that will change your life. Nothing will be quite the same after you have studied abroad. Your perspectives will be global, your attitudes will be international and you will have memories that you will carry forever. Your resume will be more attractive, in some cases your language proficiency will be advanced, and you will have developed lifelong friendships.
The largest misconception that prevents students from participating in study abroad is its perceived inaccessibility. Students who do study abroad are often amazed at how easy it was to put the whole thing together. Financial aid is often available, every major field of study can partake, and study abroad is an experience available for every student. It's as easy as a working through a checklist. The following information is just that, it should be used only as a guideline, each university or college has their own study abroad policy.

Why study abroad?

Academic credit - The most obvious reason why students study abroad is to earn academic credit. You should consider the type of credit you will earn on your study abroad program. Will you earn credit towards your major or elective credit only? Will you receive grades or pass/fail credit only? You may study abroad to earn upper division credits in your major field or you may be overseas to earn some of your core or general education hours your freshman year.
? Language acquisition - The world market place is shrinking rapidly, many companies require second languages. Foreign languages are not only valuable in the work force they are valuable in the real world.
? Practical experience - Study abroad coupled with an international internship is an incredible way to gain some real world experience. Additionally you may find that only an international program can offer the real expertise you desire in your education. Australia is a great place to find a marine biology program, the engineering labs in Sweden may exceed your facilities at your home institution, and peace studies in Geneva would offer an insight that couldn't be matched in Nebraska.
? Resume building - International experience is ranked high among many employers as a critical asset for prospective employees. Study abroad shows that you are resourceful, adventurous, internationally minded, and diverse.
? Experience of a lifetime - In a couple years you will forget the name of your literature professor in Grenoble or the name of your dorm in Beijing, but you'll never forget the friends you made or the incredible experiences you shared.

How do I find a program?

THE BEST PLACE TO START IS TO MAKE CONTACTS WITH STUDY ABROAD EXPERTS /CONSULTANTS??,

EducationDon’t Give Up –don Tells ASUU by ade4cool27(op): 8:22pm On Aug 25, 2009
Renowned professor at the Lagos State University (LASU) and former Dean, University of Lagos (UNILAG), Professor Lai Olorode has charged the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to take their fight to a logical conclusion,
Speaking during a media briefing during the week in Lagos, Prof. Olorode remarked government’s insensitivity to the dwindling fortunes of education in Nigeria has rendered “the talk about re-branding a complete trash”.

The Professor stated that because the education sector in the country lacks a zero percent well -being, the university system especially, are completely sick and depressed.

His words: “In all the courses in all our universities, we are grossly understaffed. Here, we do not have the lecturer-student ratio. I hope that ASUU is prepared for a very long fight because even if the issue of ASUU is resolved tomorrow or in the next one week, I’m not seeing this government being eager to get students back to the classrooms.

“My submission is that they are trying to keep the student s from campuses till 2011 because of their plan to rig the election come 2011. And one other reason they may not return the students to campuses is that they have made up their minds that they are going to impose school fees on the universities. They are trying to divide and rule at the same time. This is the reason they are t asking each of the universities to negotiate with its staff”. he said.

Prof. Orolode noted that for some reasons, the Yar’Adua government lacks the political will to implement the terms of collective bargaining adding that unless it has the political machinery to implement policies, it cannot be heard. He therefore appealed, to ASUU leadership to consider the sponsorship of some retired professors to contest for the Senate.

Speaking through its National Chairman, Professor Ukachukwu Awuzie, ASUU pointed accusing fingers at those it described as forces in government who are bent on frustrating the emergence of a centrally signed agreement with ASUU. Chief among the list was Education Minister, Dr. Sam Egwu.
Others who also came under the hammer of the striking lecturers include the Executive Secretary of NUC, Professor Julius Okojie,

RomanceConscious Love by ade4cool27(op): 9:05pm On Aug 12, 2009
Love is a sentiment so sacred that but few know what it is. It is a term used but not understood. The warm glow of impulse, the fascination of one person to another, is not love; it does not deserve the name. True love has an intellectual basis, a deep thorough KNOWLEDGE of the one loved. A clear UNDERSTANDING of them. A good ATTITUDE towards them and yourself and them to you. But obsessing or trying to catch up with loved objects and bestowing on them the thoughts and affections, is without reason, without judgment, and is excessive, temporary, and sensual. Impulsive love is perfectly blind. It will soon be placed on unworthy objects as worthy. True love does not loose itself in a desire to simply be loved and can not be created for this purpose. It seems to me that those who are caught up in their desire to love and be loved or base it on unpredictable swaying feelings are willing to loose their own individuality. We are not a mere machine to be guided by another's will and another's mind or ours or their unreasonable emotional feelings. Neither should merge their individuality in that of the other. In so much as the person that I am I believe each is to ask, ''What is right?'' ''What is wrong?'' ''How may I best fulfill life's purpose for us?'' Let the wealth of your affection flow forth to the one you approve of. The one who has your best interest in mind and the one who's interest you approve of. Based on this your love for them and theirs towards you will be deeper and stronger, your love for another or each other will be purified and strengthened. We will have a clear mind for the love we deserve when we deserve it by our own actions and theirs. Not for the love we simply desire based on investing of one-self's own feelings,

A dramatic late strike from Andres Iniesta saw Barcelona snatch a 1-1 draw with Chelsea and a place in the UEFA Champions League final

ichael Essien's spectacular opener appeared to have the Blues on course for a second consecutive final, but it is Pep Guardiola's side that will do battle with Manchester United in Rome on 27th May.

Chelsea knew they could ill-afford to adopt the defensive approach that served them so well during a goalless first leg in Camp Nou and set out to attack their illustrious opponents from the off.
