From experience I would advice you don't do that again unless she is completely indispose for that period and not because of party. This is a scam always used on the first timer by most hospitals.

It was used on me and I lost my first child.

Sorry for your loss.

This event I am to narrate happened to me on Wednesday 7/12/2016.

I was going to Mushin to buy some furniture materials as I was told I could see varieties on Ladipo street at Mushin.

I took the car and I drove from Sabo Yaba towards Jibowu and continued my journey to Mushin after crossing the rail line.

Being not too familiar with the route, after passing the NNPC Petrol station by my right I stopped at the next filling station (I think its
Conoil petrol station) to ask for direction and to possibly park there to go and buy what I needed.

They directed me to stop at the next filling station that the adjacent street is where I was going.

I proceeded keeping to my right since I will be stopping at the next filling station, at the next junction there was a light traffic caused by
these Keke Napep and the Danfo Buses as I slowed down all of a sudden I just found these 2 guys in front of my car saying that I should park.

These 2 guys are not in uniform and I wonder who they were, but there eyes are hardened, fierce and look like thugs.Since I wasnt using Air Conditioned and rolled down the glass halfway but locked the door, I was trying to ask them what is the problem.

One hefty guy just came by the door and pull the door lock knob up and forcefully entered my car.

Why and what is my offense?

The guy said I was obstructing the traffic!!!

How? I was surprised. It is not as if I stopped my car!, I didnt jump traffic light! I didnt cross lane! I was just driving.

Being naive of their antics, the hefty guy already inside my car said I should make a u turn and go and join the queue again.


That is how i found myself in their office: ODI-OLOWO/OJUWOYE LOCAL COUNCIL DEVELOPMENT AREA

At their office a well revised mild drama played out:

The guy inside my car asked me to drive from the gate to the back of the compound which is somehow isolated. In my mind I began to fear for my life.

Abi these guys wants to kill me? But I met some vehicles and their owner there, some begging the Local Government Officials.

One fierce looking man posing like their Oga (Boss) came out and asked me and the guy what happened. I tried to explain as above but I was rebuffed, threatened and harassed that they will impound my car, they will jail me, one of them even threatened to assault me if I keep on saying I am innocent and that what I need is to do is pay them money to release my car. That they will deflate all my tires and break my windscreen if I do not cooperate that I should go and look for money inside my car or they will forcefully open the car and search it.

Meanwhile the Oga called another light skinned complexion guy and asked him to write caution of N15,000 for me, with a stern warning that I will add additional N500 for me to release my car!


Because of the threat to life, apparently nobody knows where I am and I was surrounded by close to 5 hefty guys, I obliged them and take the paper.

Their Oga now walk me to where some 2 men were sitting down with one woman that look like cleaner to go and pay.

The money with me was not enough I had to deposit N10500 and quickly dash to an ATM Machine to balance up.

I managed to speak with 2 of the persons that their car was driven into the premises and what I learnt was that one of the officials of the local government jumped into their car, one even told me his keys were roughly taking from him and the vehicle driven by the said official.

I am still traumatize and felt really bad about the experience. This to me is extortion, harassment and blatant disregard of law by public official.

It is expected that I face a mobile court as they call it and be confronted with the video evidence of my offense if they have any. I should also be allowed to have a representation if a court is staged. Is it the drive for revenue generation that is making them to resort to extortion? Is this the Lagos we are building? Where you can be harassed and extorted for no apparent reason than a public official looking at your face and guessing this one will not give us problem and cannot do anything.

Apparently, they play on people emotion, threaten them since time is money in Lagos. Also because people just pay and go and most Lagosian will not want to pursue Legal action as its expensive and time wasting.


What the YOU can do.


1.) Share/narrate your experience on this thread. My Lawyer friend suggest we want to at least 100 stories of extortion and harassment by these local government official to prepare a case against them.

2.) Help share this story on your social media pages.

3.) Tips to avoid such occurrence to naive motorist like me

Can we raise a website for social justice platform, where funds can be raised to take legal action against public officials fond of extorting
monies from people? If you like to join this crusade please signify.
