CrimeCP Summons Policemen Allegedly Involved In The Rape Of A Widow For Not Wearing.. by adebanji261(op): 10:21am On Jul 31, 2020
CP summons policemen allegedly involved in the rape of a widow for not wearing face mask; transfers case to SCID

The Commissioner of Police (CP) Rivers state, Joseph Mukan has transferred the case of alleged rape on a 32-year-old widow by a policeman to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).

The rape victim alleged that a four-man police team arrested her on Tuesday night, July 28 for not wearing a face mask, but, rather than take her to the station, they took her to a guest house where one of them named Inspector Peter Iba raped her all night “at gunpoint” (read here).

She said they arrested her at Sakpenwan, Tai Local Government Area, for not wearing face mask while she was in transit on a Port Harcourt bound vehicle from Bori.

CP Mukan on Thursday opened investigations into the matter with summon on the four man police team and the victim, transferring the case file to the SCID after hearing from both parties.

Police Spokesman, Rivers Command, SP Nnamdi Omoni, stated that, “The CP ordered the matter investigated. She (victim) made her statement yesterday (Wednesday) and today (Thursday) we were at Tai Police Station. Unfortunately the men that had encounter with the lady are not from Tai Police Station as she insinuated. They were rather from Mobile Police Base 56 at Bori.

“Today all the parties were here. After hearing from them, the matter is being investigated. CP has directed transfer of case file to SCID for further investigations at the end of which the report will be made public.

“They (suspects) made a lot of denials and confessions, but the investigations will reveal what happened. Witnesses will be involved, scene of crime visited and other things to follow in course of investigations.”

He said the “accused officers were with the Rivers Police Command. Definitely they will be invited to the SCID and we will keep the public informed”.

EducationBreaking: Secondary School Students In Exit Classes To Resume August 4 For WAEC. by adebanji261(op): 4:43pm On Jul 27, 2020
Breaking: Secondary school students in exit classes to resume August 4 for WAEC exams starting August 17

The Ministry of Education has announced that exit classes in Secondary schools across the nation will reopen for academic activities on August 4.

A statement released this afternoon July 27, by the Director of Press, Ministry Of Education, Ben Bem Goong, says students in exit classes are to resume immediately after the Salah breaks so they can take their WAEC examinations scheduled to begin August 17.

Goong said this decision was taken at the virtual consultative meeting of the Federal Ministry of Education, Commissioners of Education in the 36 states, the Nigerian Union of Teachers, Proprietors of Private schools, and Chief Executive of Examination bodies.

The Federal government had initially suspended the reopening of schools due to the increase in the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases.

EducationFG Considering GCE As Replacement For WAEC Exams - Minister by adebanji261(op): 4:59pm On Jul 25, 2020
The Federal Government through the Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajiuba, has said that SS3 students may have to sit for the General Certificate Examinations (GCE) in November if there is no shift in the timetable of the West African Examination Council (WAEC).
The Minister revealed this during the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 briefing on Thursday, July 23, in Abuja.

{FACE OF HELIOGISTS ONLINE CONTEST} CHANCE TO WIN 21K AND MORE PRIZES
According to him, sitting for GCE examinations may become the only option for Nigerian students if the government cannot convince WAEC to shift its examinations.
He further added that, in the event that Nigeria finally meets up with the WAEC timetable, subjects such as Igbo, Hausa and Yoruba will have to be shifted behind to make room for writing of general subjects with other participating countries.
Nwajiuba said that the government would meet with stakeholders again on July 30, to review the guidelines, provisions, and preparations for safe reopening of schools.

CrimeWoodberry's Fraud Case Was Dismissed Because The US Government Charged.... by adebanji261(op): 3:23pm On Jul 24, 2020
Woodberry's fraud case was dismissed because the US government charged him with a slightly different crime - Lawyer

Michael Nash, the Chicago lawyer representing Olalekan Ponle a.k.a Woodberry has revealed why the fraud case against his client was dismissed by a US court.

LIB reported earlier that the United States government on Monday July 20th filed a motion through its attorney John R. Lausch, requesting that the case against Woodberry be dismissed without prejudice, even though he was indicted by a grand jury on an eight-count charge of wire fraud.

However commenting on the development, Nash told Premium Times that the case was dismissed because the government charged his client with a slightly different crime.

He said;

“The government dismissed the case because it charged him with a slightly different crime. In the long run, no difference.”

Assistant U.S. Attorney, Joseph D. Fitzpatrick who spoke on behalf of the plaintiff also told the publication that although the complaint is dismissed, the grand jury's indictment is still active.

Fitzpatrick said;

“We dismissed the complaint, but the indictment (charging 8 counts of wire fraud) is still active. We cannot comment on the dismissal of the complaint, but I wanted to make sure you knew the indictment is still active.
"Mr Ponle has now been charged by indictment, instead of being charged by the complaint by FBI”.

It was further learnt that the suspected Nigerian fraudster is still in the custody of the U.S. Marshal.

Please teach young girls to make money, not every day relationship advice it’s becoming sickening- Tonto Dikeh

Tonto Dikeh has appealed to mentors of young ladies to also teach them how to make money and not relationship advice which according to her is becoming sickening.

In a post she shared on her Instagram page on Friday July 24, the mum of one said women should also aspire to become successful like the successful men they tend to be attracted to.

She pointed out that having a successful man by your side as a hardworking lady is not wrong but that some women just believe that a man must be their success ticket.

She added that there is so much pride in women being successful on their own terms. Her post reads
Please Teach young girls to make money, not every day relationship advice (It’s becoming sickening)

Chasing after a rich man is not an achievement..

Don’t get me wrong,Having a rich man by your side to support your OBVIOUS hard work is not a sin.
But there are some Extremely lazy girls/women who just feel that a man most be a success ticket..
Some women will have 1million and buy kayamata for 900k and then still cry economy bad..
Women who don’t believe in themselves to amount to nothing unless thru. A man or aphrodisiac
#Success seeks success just like we women are attracted to successful men so are men attracted to successful women..
Sisterly leave kayamata, Work, Pray and be a BOSS He too can be proud of..

TEACH THEM HOW TO ATTRACT MILLIONS NOT JUST men.

#ps:- Dear young girls there are still women out there conquering the world on their Own..
There is Pride in been your Own success!!

PoliticsMembers Of House Of Representatives Issue Warrant Of Arrest For NDDC Boss.... by adebanji261(op): 1:41pm On Jul 16, 2020
Members of house of Representatives issue warrant of arrest for NDDC boss after he and his team members walked out on them

Members of the House of Representatives Committee on the Niger Delta Development Commission NDDC have issued a warrant of arrest against the acting Managing Director of the Interim Management Committee(IMC) of the NDDC, Professor Kemebradikumo Pondei, who walked out on them today July 16.

Pondei and his team were at the House to appear before the panel investigating activities of the commission.

Recall that on Tuesday, July 14, a mild drama ensued at the committee hearing after Pondei failed to explain a N143 billion shortfall in the 2019 budget. Unable to answer the questions thrown at him by the Commission, Pondei asked for time to go back and address the N143 billion discrepancy raised by the committee members.

When he appeared before the house today, Pondei said he and his team members were not prepared to make any presentation before the committee. He objected to Chairman of the Committee, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, presiding over the investigative hearing, insisting he cannot preside over a matter in which he is also an accused.

While members were still making contributions on the issue, the Nation reports that Pondei sought permission to leave and walked out before the committee could grant or reject his request.

The furious lawmakers accused the Interim Management Committee of trying to frustrate legislative functions and ordered a warrant of arrest be issued against him.

The Committee members also unanimously passed a vote of confidence on its Chairman.

Students threaten to stage protest if FG fails to announce date of resumption within two weeks

Nigerian students in tertiary institutions have threatened to stage a protest if the Federal government fails to announce a date for resumption of academic activities in all institutions of learning within the next two weeks

The students have been at home since March when schools were shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

?
The students under the aegis the National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS), National Association of University Students (NAUS) and National Association of Colleges of Education Students (NANCES), at a virtual meeting, decried Federal Government’s approach towards resumption of learning institutions in the country.?

?They condemned the Federal government’s decision to cancel the 2020 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASCCE).? According to the students, WASSCE can be written while observing social distancing and other safety protocols.?
“It is hardly feasible that coronavirus may be eradicated in a fortnight and after months of observing several safety measures, there are little or no gains in the results so far recorded.?
?
‘Huge funds have been used to contain the spread of the virus, but we still have poorly equipped medical centres across the country” they said

The students urged the Federal government to stop salaries of university teachers and other officials for advocating the continued closure of schools without proffering solutions to the COVID-19 pandemic.?

PoliticsResident Doctors At Ogun Isolation Centre Join Strike by adebanji261(op): 3:12pm On Jul 15, 2020
Resident Doctors at the COVID-19 treatment and isolation centre have joined their colleagues in the ongoing strike.

The doctors who work at the Isolation centre located in Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu, Ogun State, reportedly vacated their duty posts at the isolation centre following the directive by the Association of Resident Doctors, OOUTH, Sagamu.

This was confirmed in a statement jointly signed by the president of the association, Dr Popoola Mutiu and the secretary, Dr Osundara Tope.

The ARD which comprises Resident Doctors, Medical Officers and House Officers under the national body of NARD had begun an indefinite strike since July 1, but exempted members who work at the isolation centre from the strike.

However, the association said it changed its decision and asked the members to leave the isolation centre in protest against the alleged maltreatment of its members by the government.

The statement reads in part “Since the government has chosen to simply rub the issues without any form of real commitment, our members working at the COVID – 19 Isolation Centre will henceforth join the Industrial action.

“We expect the government not to dethrone reasoning or shirk from responsibility expected of a considerate, sincere and truthful government. We call on Ogun State government not to leave us up a creek without a paddle.

“Our service to the people should not be abridged by the ineptitude of the government. We work for the common good and sound health of the people of Ogun State.

“Insouciance on the part of government shows gaucherie and a faux pas which does not befit the principle of justice, equity and transparency expected of Ogun State Government.”

Philadelphia bans large public gatherings until February 2021 due to COVID-19 pandemic

The city of Philadelphia has announced that it is cancelling all large events including the city's marathon and Thanksgiving Day parade until the end of February next year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney made the announcement on Tuesday, July 14, saying ban on large events includes festivals, parades, concerts, carnivals, fairs, flea markets and block parties, such as the Thanksgiving Day parade and the Philadelphia Marathon are all cancelled.

In a tweet, he wrote: 'He I'm disappointed to confirm that we are canceling large public events through February 28, 2021 due to the public health crisis.

This was not an easy decision to make. The health and safety of residents, workers, and visitors must be our top priority.'

Philadelphia bans large public gatherings until February 2021 due to COVID-19 pandemic

The mayor also said that 40% of new confirmed COVID-19 cases in the city are people under the age of 30. "This underscores the importance of avoiding social gatherings, especially for young people," Kenney said.

The ban does not apply to any first amendment events like protests and demonstrations. Private outdoor events for ceremonies such as weddings, will be allowed to go ahead if there are fewer than 50 guests. Organized outdoor sports with fewer than 25 people are also permitted.

The decision to ban the next six months of events comes as the U.S. faces a surge in coronavirus cases.

Officials reported 148 new cases Tuesday afternoon, bringing the city's total to over 27,700. The city's death toll stands at 1,637.

PoliticsMistakes Of My Administration Were Not Out Of Selfishness - Obasanjo by adebanji261(op): 2:28pm On Jul 14, 2020
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has stated that the mistakes of his administration were not made out of selfishness.

Speaking in an interview with The Point Newspaper, Obasanjo averred that his administration’s mistakes were genuine and was devoid of personal interests.

He said;

“People who worked with me, it doesn’t matter where they come from, they remember what we did together. There is no question of favouritism, there is no question of, yes, this is my kith and kin. There is no question of this is my personal interest.
“I never say that we didn’t make mistake or we are perfect, but whatever mistake we made was a genuine mistake. It wasn’t a mistake we made as a result of selfishness.”

On claims of him not doing much for the Yorubas, Obasanjo said;

“Some Yoruba have come to me and said you didn’t do enough for the Yoruba. I said, ‘Yes, did I do for Nigeria?’ They said, ‘You did?’ I asked, is Yoruba not part of Nigeria? If I did as I could for Nigeria and Yoruba are part of Nigeria, then I have done for the Yoruba as well as I have done for Igbo, Hausa and so on. I think that must guide us,” he said.
“Yes the question is what is my guiding principle? Nigeria. You know it is true I became the President on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Now I am not a PDP man, I am not an APC (All Progressives Congress) man, even I am not an ADC (African Democratic Congress) man. But if you ask for my party, I will say Nigeria is my party.”

The former President who called on incumbent leaders to look beyond the moment because their actions will be a reference point later in the future, affirmed that Nigeria can be great with generational consistency in good leadership.

Obasanjo added;

“The point you must bear in mind is that this country can be a great country. We have everything to make this country great. And that is what always worries me. When you see what we can do, how to do it, and we are not doing it. That is really unfortunate.
“Can we get there? I believe we can. All we need is one generation of consistency in leadership, we will be there. That is what we need. We need one generation of right leadership consistently.
“When you are in a position of leadership, don’t think only of today, think of tomorrow, because, look, you would be a reference point. How did he perform? How did he do? What did he do? In future, people would refer to it. For one thing, I have no mind for malice. I cannot even think of malice. And when I have a job to do, I sink myself into it.”

CelebritiesEFCC Urges Court To Deny Popular Social Media Influencer, Adeherself Bail by adebanji261(op): 2:18pm On Jul 14, 2020
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC) has urged an Ikeja Special Offences Court to deny popular social media influencer, Adedamola "Adeherself" Adewale bail.

Mr. Samuel Daji, the lead prosecuting counsel for the anti-graft agency, made the plea on Monday, July 13, during Adewale’s bail hearing on a charge of possession of fraudulent documents.

“I urge the court to refuse the bail of the defendant and order accelerated hearing,” Daji said.

Before the bail hearing, the defence counsel, Mr. Tunde Salami had applied to the court to grant bail on liberal terms to Adewale who had been remanded in EFCC’s custody since July 7.

Following the submissions of the defence and prosecuting counsel Justice Sherifat Solebo adjourned the case till Wednesday, July 15, for ruling on the bail application.

Adeherself was arrested last month following intelligence received by the Commission on the activities of some young men allegedly involved in internet fraud in the Lekki axis of Lagos State.

She was recently arraigned on a one-count charge of possession of fraudulent documents.
PoliticsSuspended EFCC Boss Ibrahim Magu Writes Presidential Investigation Panel... by adebanji261(op): 8:17pm On Jul 11, 2020
Suspended EFCC boss Ibrahim Magu writes presidential investigation panel; speaks on the allegations leveled against him and makes demands

The suspended boss of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, has complained about the “unfortunate” handling of his investigation for alleged corruption, saying he has consequently been “paraded like a common criminal”.

Magu on Monday, July 6, appeared before the presidential panel investigating allegations of corruption leveled against him by the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami.

Premiumtimes reports that Magu in a letter written by his lawyer, Wahab Shittu, and sent to the Presidential Investigative Committee on Friday, July 10, said he had not seen the petitions containing the allegations against him nor has the committee availed him with their terms of reference. The letter which was reportedly sent to the Committee on Friday, July 11, reads in part
“Mr Chairman, since the 6th of July when our client honoured your invitation, he has been consistently applying to the Committee to be given the petitions containing the allegations of CONSPIRACY, CORRUPT ENRICHMENT, ABUSE OF POWER/OFFICE, which request has not been honoured or obliged till date. Our client has also informed us that he remains unaware of the terms of reference of this distinguished Committee.”

The letter also related Magu’s discomfort with his continued detention at the Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department FCID “without being informed of the allegations against him and the deserved opportunity to timeously study and respond to same.”

Magu in his letter complained that “witnesses are called and examined by the Committee behind his back and without allowing him and counsel of his choice to participate in the proceedings involving these witnesses.”

The suspended chairman of the antigraft agency said he had been a target of campaigns of calumny by the media taking advantage of his detention to spread damaging, false and prejudicial allegations.

Among such “unfounded allegations which never featured in the proceedings of the Committee thus far,” the letter said, were that Mr. Magu gave Vice President Yemi Osinbajo four billion naira (an allegation Mr Osinbajo has denied); that he ran secret accounts; procured cronies to front for him; and that he acquired properties in Dubai.
“These campaigns of calumny have greatly affected the morale of our client and damaged his hard earned reputation and that of the Commission (EFCC)
It continued, “that our client as a result of this campaign of calumny has been paraded like a common criminal and subjected to all manners of insults and embarrassment just for serving his nation diligently and efficiently as the arrow-head of the anti-corruption campaign of this administration.
This unfortunate development is happening even before the determination of the petitions before this Honourable Committee with prejudicial consequences.” the letter read in part

Magu in his letter made seven requests from the committee, including its terms of reference; access to the petitions against him to “enable him study and prepare a robust defence”; intervention of the committee to facilitate his release from the FCID detention; and adequate time to respond to the allegations against him with necessary materials and evidence.

He also sought an opportunity to confront the petitioners with his own defense; and requested that witnesses be examined in his presence and his counsel. He then asked the committee to guarantee “his right to fair hearing including his right to liberty in the course of the proceedings of this distinguished Committee.”

The investigative committee is yet to comment on Magu's letter.
