The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) says there will be "a slight delay" in the payment of allowance for January, 2016 and its management has sent out a message of apology to this effect.
In a press statement issued out on Wednesday, February 3, the NYSC management explained that the delay of January allowance was due to disparities in logistics and planning details for 2016 from the Ministry of Budget and National Planning, the Ministry of Finance as well as the NYSC itself.
In this light, there have been continuous efforts to ensure the situation is addressed in order to facilitate the payment of January allowance to all corps members.
The NYSC said:"Management regrets this delay, and is therefore working round the clock to ensure that all corps members receive their January allowance between now and next week.
"Please accept our very sincere apology for this delay."
In a recent development, the NYSC ordered its staff to declare their assets.
This is in keeping with the ongoing fight against corruption in the nation.
The Director-General of the NYSC, Johnson Olawunmi, ordered the personnel of the scheme to declare their assets in line with the code of conduct for public officers.
The corps boss gave the directive at the opening ceremony of its 2016 Annual Management Conference in Asaba.

Lowo Oyediran Ajanaku, 38, was brutally stabbed to death early this morning allegedly by his wife Yewande Oyediran nee Fatoki, at their Akobo estate home in Ibadan in the wee hours of today Feb. 2nd. The woman is said to be a lawyer and a Staff of Directorate of public prosecution at the Ministry of Justice, Ibadan, Oyo state.
Lowo was allegedly stabbed after a domestic dispute at their home. The woman hasn't been arrested yet as she's said to have vanished after the incident. Brooklyn police yesterday put out this photo taken from CCTV surveillance of 5 young men accused of brutally raping an 18 year old girl in front of her dad on Thursday night, January 7th. According to the story, the unnamed victim and her dad were inside Osborn Playground in Browns ville, Brooklyn about 11:15 p.m when the thugs approached them.
One of them pulled out a gun, pointed it at the father and told him to leave the playground or he would be killed. After the dad ran from the playground, each of the thugs took turns raping the girl...
The victim's father called 911 but when he returned with police officers to the scene, the suspects had disappeared. The girl was later treated in hospital.
The police is now looking for the thugs and released surveillance video of the group entering a nearby train before the attack. No one has so far come forward to say they know the guys...

A Corps member said she was raped by another corper friend she trusted. She sent the guys details and photos but since this is an allegation, I will leave that out now until the authorities confirm he's a rapist.
I would like to report a rape case. I considered going to the police but I'm sure the rapist might be able to pay his way out and no action will be taken. I'm a youth corper serving in Ondo state. On the 8th of January this year, I traveled to Edo State with a fellow corper whom I trusted very much. We were friends in camp and fortunately we got posted to the same local government, so it seemed like it was a plan arranged by heaven. So on the evening of Jan. 8th, we were in his friends room off campus and I slept off watching a movie on his laptop. Some time later I woke up ‎and found him touching me.
I resisted and he forced himself on me the first time. Although I tried fighting him off the first time, he easily overpowered me because of his size. After the first time, I cried for a while while he apologised profusely. Because I didn't have anywhere to run to and he held me down, he had his way the second time and didn't even bother apologising or anything. He just slept off and woke up begging and begging. ‎I searched online for places I could report rape cases to that weren't the police, but I didn't see any.

Village justice was meted to a woman after she was caught cheating on her husband with her nephew. The incident took place in a Cajarmaca, a small indigenous community in northern Peru. The woman was whipped by a village elder after being accused of seducing her 20-year-old nephew while her husband was away working in Spain.
A video of the public punishment shows the woman, bending over as one of the female leaders of the community lifts up her skirt and hits her backside with a stick.

A Tamil Nadu woman, who had resisted a Madras High Court suggestion to marry the man she accused of raping her when she was a minor, was forced to marry him. (pictured with her daughter)..
On December 29, 2015, tired of the court battles, the 22-year-old woman returned to him with her daughter born out of the rape after his conviction was set aside by another High Court judge and her case sent back to the lower court. She told the Cuddalore Mahila Court that she had married the accused after a settlement and they were now living together. The case was therefore closed and the man acquitted by the court.
Last June, Justice D Devadass, citing religion and its capacity for reconciliation, had referred her case for mediation with the accused. But the woman had slammed the order:
"Did the judge ever think how I suffered all these years? He knew I had a baby from that rape. And now this single order of his wants me to go through that suffering again."
In October, Justice A Selvam set aside the man's conviction and the fine imposed on him. He referred the case back to the Cuddalore court for fresh trial on an appeal filed by the man who claimed the girl was a "major" when they had a "consensual" relationship.
The victim said she was 15 when she was raped in 2008. Her parents passed away and she became the mother of a child born from the rape. The man was convicted and fined Rs 2 lakh by the Cuddalore Mahila Court in 2014 based on evidence that included DNA samples.
Last October, when the man's second appeal was being heard by the High Court, the prosecution submitted the woman's school transfer certificate to prove she was only 15 when she was raped, and that sex with a minor was rape under the law.
But Justice Selvam observed that the trial court had only relied on her oral submission and had failed to examine documents establishing her age. Justice Selvam referred the case back to the lower court for verification of her age and also set aside the man's conviction. The trial court was directed to refund the fine and compensation sum that had been paid by the accused.
The woman's brother told The Indian Express that she was "helpless" after the second High Court order.

US police have arrested a man who allegedly plotted to kidnap one of President Obama's two pet dogs. Officials say Scott Stockert - who is from the state of North Dakota - was planning to snatch one of the dogs, either Bo or Sunny.
Police in Washington DC found weapons in Mr Stockert's vehicle, including a shotgun, a rifle and a machete.
Agents say he made several outlandish claims during his arrest, including that he intended to run for president.
He also said he was the son of former President John F Kennedy and actress Marilyn Monroe, according to court documents.
Mr Stockert has been charged with violating the District of Columbia's gun laws.

The conjoined twins were born in Tondo of Miya in Ganjuwa Local Government Area of Bauchi State, over the weekend.
