Abubakar Shekau He is the leader of Boko Haram. He is said to be a fearless loner, a complex, paradoxical man - part intellectual, part gangster. Fondly called imam or leader by his followers, Abubakar Muhammad Shekau was born in Shekau village in Yobe State. Some say he is 34 or 35, others that he may be 43 - the uncertainty adds to the myths surrounding Nigeria’s most wanted man. Shekau was once thought to have been killed by security forces in 2009 - only for him to reappear in videos posted on the internet less than a year later as Boko Haram’s new leader. He has not been seen in public since. Instead, still images and video clips of him are released from time to time, mostly online, by the group’s faceless “public enlightenment department”. He is said to have met his predecessor in Maiduguri, capital of Borno State through a mutual friend, Mamman Nur, who is said to have masterminded the August 2011 bombing of the UN office complex in Abuja. Under Shekau, Boko Haram has become more radical and carried out more killings. He is fluent in his native Kanuri, Hausa and Arabic languages - he does not speak English. He is said to have married one of Mohammed Yusuf’s four wives and adopted their children. Shekau does not communicate directly with the group’s foot soldiers - he is said to wield his power through a few select cell leaders, but even then, contact is minimal. He is nicknamed “Darul Tawheed”, which translates as a specialist in Tawheed. This is an orthodox doctrine of the uniqueness and oneness of Allah, which is the very cornerstone of Islam. Kabiru Sokoto was arrested in February by the State Security Service (SSS). He was earlier arrested by the police, and ‘allowed’ to escape. His escape led to the dismissal of Deputy Commissioner of Police Zakari Biu. He was declared wanted, with a N5million ransom on his head before the SSS re-arrested him at Mutum in Gassol Local Government Area of Taraba State. He has been with the SSS. He is believed to be giving vital information which has been helping understand how the Boko Haram sect works. His real name is Kabiru Abubakar Dikko. The 29-year-old was born to the family of Umaru Jabbi of Gagi village in Sokoto South Local Government Area on May 9, 1983. After the death of his father, his uncle, Abubakar Dikko, adopted him and gave him his name. He completed his secondary education in 2003 and was admitted to the College of Nursing and Midwifery, Sokoto, where he was said to have been a truant with extremist tendencies. Abu Qaqa The SSS is also holding a man it said was the spokesman of the sect, Abu Qaqa. But Boko Haram has insisted that the man in the SSS custody is Abu Darda, its head of public enlightenment. He was arrested in February and has been with the agency since then. The sect said: “The person that was arrested was Abu Darda and not Abu-Qaqa. I am Abul Qaqa, the spokesman for the Jama’atu Ahlis Sunnati Lidda’awati Wal Jihad. Abu Darda is the head of the Lagina (Dept) of public enlightenment and not the spokesman. “The arrest of Abu Darda is an outright deception and betrayal by the Nigerian government and security agents. They proclaimed dialogue and are doing the opposite. His arrest has proved to us that they were waiting for us to avail ourselves so that they can arrest us. “We purposely sent Abu Darda to Kaduna to discuss with some key government functionaries on the issue of dialogue. Indeed, he had started talking to them but unknown to him, they (had) directed some security agents to trail him and arrest him. “This is exactly what happened. He volunteered to present himself for the dialogue but was betrayed. Everybody knows our capability and tactics of operation. It is evidently clear that none of our members could be caught on a platter of gold and without confrontation.” In May, his father was reported killed by the sect in Maiduguri because of his alleged revelations on the group to the SSS. Suleiman Mohammed He was arrested in May along with his wife and five children in the Farawa, Kano. His arrest came hours after blasts and gunfire rocked Maiduguri, the Borno State capital. Mohammed has been described as Boko Haram’s head of operations in Kano under the group’s suspected leader, Abubakar Shekau. Three pistols, a rifle, 1,000 rounds of ammunition and 10 Improvised Explosive Devices (IDEs) were recovered from his house. Ayuba Usman He was arrested in May at his shop in a market in Kano following information from suspected Boko Haram members arrested in raids. High profile suspects allegedly said Usman was providing combustible chemicals used in the manufacture of IEDs (improvised explosive devices) for attacks on innocent people in the city. Thirty-five drums of chemicals of 240 litres each and a dozen bags of combustible items were recovered during the raid on his shop in one of the markets in Dala Local Government Area of the state. Ibrahim Mohammed Ali A prime suspect in the coordinated attacks on Christian worshippers at the old campus of Bayero University, Kano in which 20 persons, including 2 professor, were killed. He was arrested in May. Ali, a diploma holder from Ramat Polytechnic, Maiduguri, Borno State, was nabbed by security operatives who had been on his trail. The JTF arrested him after surrounding a house located at Bubugaje, Sharada Phase III Industrial Layout in Kumbotso Local Government Area, where he was hiding. There was a three-hour shoot-out between the JTF and suspected members of the sect before he was arrested. |

In what appears to be a show of errant nonsense, CBN Governor Sanusi Lamido Sanusi appeared in office in his full cheiftancy garb, to the chagrin of CBN staff. At a period when the whole nation and most especially the CBN family are mourning the demise of some of its staff in the ill fated Dana air crash, their boss seems unperturbed, and rather chose to extravagantly display his chieftancy attire. Call him whatever names you like, it does not remove the fact that music sensation, 9ICE, real names Abolore Akande stands a world apart from many of his contemporaries with his genre of music and bluesy delivery. With an album that every track is a little masterpiece and a reflection of his wealth of experience on the streets, 9ICE in this interview with Showtime Celebrity recalled how many things fell into place to create a double album that is powerfully raw and is fast creeping to have a chart-topping commercial success Read More here; http://community.ipledge2nigeria.com/forums/viewtopic/44/243?post_id=270#p270

You probably haven’t heard about Nwayeruwa, the woman who sparked a protest that twisted the hand of the British colonialists backwards until they had to give in on the issue of taxing women. We don’t do enough history in Nigeria; in fact, history is not being taken at all in many schools. If we have a good understanding of where we are coming from, we will understand why were are where we are, then we can move forward from there. So I am giving a little history lesson of my own and today we will be learning about the Aba Women’s Revolt of 1929. Here we go! Read More here; http://community.ipledge2nigeria.com/blogs/44/3114 |

Contrary to the news that broke a few days ago that Bayo Odusami, the showbiz impre-sario popularly known as Howie T was not shot, it can authoritatively reveal that the hefty CEO of Adrot Nigeria Limited, owners of Kiss Re-cords, actually escaped the bullets of armed robbers who shot at him on Saturday April 14. Just like a scene in a home video, SS gathered that Howie was driving his black Prado SUV around Mago-do, Lagos, aound 4.00 am when men of the underworld swooped on him. I just finished watching a review of the Abdulmutallab sentence and one thing caught my attention, A PERCEIVED CONSPIRACY THEORY. Kurt Haskell, one of the passengers in the Detroit-bound plane, while testifying said Abdulmutallab was allowed to board the plane without a passport and going through security. He said he's disappointed that the U.S. government allowed Abdulmutallab to get onto the plane. "Regardless of how media and government try to shape this case, I am convinced that Umar was given an intentionally defective bomb by a U.S. agent to stage a false terrorist attack to be used to implement various government policies. It really saddens me that the government won't admit its role in the event. Because of this case, I will never trust anything the government says, ever." Then, Haskell turned to Abdulmutallab. "Umar, you are not a Muslim martyr. You are merely a government patsy." And then i began to wonder, can these Americans really be trusted? |
I think the biggest reason for multi dating is perspective. When you are dating one partner your judgment seems to more clouded as opposed to when you are seeing several people and are blessed with the chance to remain objective by reason of the gift of comparison. You also see members of the opposite sex for who they really are instead of idealizing them and ignoring their faults. Read More here; http://community.ipledge2nigeria.com/blogs/44/2657 |
Hafsat Abiola-Costello Says on Channels TV that Al-Mustapha’s Death Sentence Ruling Is “Long Overdue”- Hafsat Abiola-Costello is the daughter of the murdered Pro-Democracy activist, Alhaja Kudirat Abiola. While responding to the decision of the court of the death sentence handed down to Major Hamza Al-Mustapha who was accused of ordering the death of her mother, she overwhelmingly described the sentence as a judgment and victory for Nigerians, stating that it was long overdue. Al-Mustapha and his accomplice, Lateef Sofolahan were sentenced to death by hanging until they are confirmed dead, after been convicted of the murder of Mrs. Kudirat Abiola along the Lagos Ibadan express way. Mrs Abiola who had believed in her husband’s victory in the June 12th Presidential election became a strong voice for the voiceless during the late General Sani Abacha’s regime, and as such became a threat to the government. In a move to stop her from getting the international attention she was getting as at the time, the Chief Security Officer to the late Dictator ordered for her killing through Sgt. Rogers. She was assassinated along the Lagos/Ibadan express way on 4 June 1996. Al-Mustapha, the former Chief Security Officer to the late Head of State, General Sani Abacha, as well as Lateef Sofolahan, the protocol officer of the late Kudirat have both been kept in jail for a 12-year-long trial which culminated into a death sentence yesterday. Hafsat Abiola affirmed that the judgment has further confirmed the judiciary as the last hope of the Nigerian masses. The deceased daughter, who spoke to Channels Television in Abeokuta, believed there had been “no doubt” of Al-Mustapha’s involvement in her mother’s untimely death, reiterating that it brings the end their continuous grieve. http://dailypost.com.ng/2012/01/31/judgment-long-overdue-hafsat-abiola-costello/ |
Business activities at the Abuja secretariat housing the majority of the federal ministries were on Monday paralysed as workers refused to show up in obedience to the nationwide strike against the removal of fuel subsidy. However, the Minister of Health, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu, threatened that he would implement the no-work-no-pay rule for workers of the ministry and its parastatals who refused to turn up for work. Chukwu, who was disappointed that a majority of the workers failed to report for work, said the ministry would be forced to punish them. He said, “Some workers are here and like you observed many others didn’t turn up. There are basic laws of the country that if you don’t come to work, you don’t get salary. So, I believe it will be implemented. “I don’t have issues with the unions for now. There are normal public service rules and if any member of staff feels he or she has been unjustly treated, the worker has a right to petition the appropriate quarters and lay a formal complaint, and of course, it will be looked into in its own merit.” Our correspondent learnt that the civil servants decided not to report to work due to a security alarm said to have been raised by the United States Embassy over a planned bomb in the Federal Capital Territory. As early as 8am heavily armed security officials cordoned off the secretariat, including the portion housing the Office of Head of Civil Service of the Federation. But the President of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria, Mr. Olaitan Olukunle, told our correspondent that the strike recorded 70 per cent success in Abuja. He said, “So far, the whole thing went smoothly and there was no problem at the time I got field reports. We recorded 70 per cent success, but I have to wait for a comprehensive report for us to come to accurate judgment. We will continue with the strike so long as the government refuses to back down. In Taraba State the report I got was that civil servants did not come out to work.” The Secretary-General of ASCSN, Mr. Solomon Onaghinon, described the strike as “very successful.” He said, “The Abuja secretariat has been shut down and since that is the hub of civil service and government business, the strike can be described as very successful. “Reports reaching me indicated that all the secretariats in 23 states have been closed down by the strike and in Lagos it is very successful.” http://www.punchng.com/news/minister-threatens-no-work-no-pay-rule/ |

Falana, Aremu others hold up Lagos traffic in subsidy protest The protesters in Lagos have sat down at Fadeyi along the Ikorodu expressway, chanting solidarity songs and calling for divine punishment for the proponents of the subsidy removal. The action has caused a traffic snarl on the road which happens to be the busiest in Lagos. Among those sitting on the road presently are former ASUU President, Dipo Fashina, Human rights activist, Femi Falana, NLC vice president Issa Aremu, Segun Sango and students. 10:00am Organised Labour under the Joint Action Front today in Lagos commenced a protest against the removal of the fuel subsidy by the Federal Government. The protesters booed President Jonathan and Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo state over the development. They said the cabinet of President Jonathan, including the minister of Finance and the Petroleum minister are insensitive to the plight of Nigerians. They also berated Oshiomhole for supporting the removal of the subsidy, calling him a traitor to the cause. The protest has attracted thousands who flocked to the NLC office in Yaba from as early as 7:30am chanting solidarity songs . They also displayed placards which said the administration was 'rudderless'. Some of the inscriptions on some of hte placards read "Jonathan is rogue; Oshiomhole is a traitor; Iweala is an agent; Diezani is a rogue". Presently, protesters have shut down filling stations around Lawanson in Lagos. Among the stations sealed are Oando, MRS and Total. They accused them of compounding the plight of poor Nigerians by selling at the new pump price. They vowed to vandalise them should they go ahead to continue selling. The protest is now being joined by students from the Lagos State University (LASU) who were already being weighed down by high school fees. http://dailytrust.com.ng/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=151495%3Alabour-fuel-subsidy-protest-begins-in-lagos&catid=34%3Adeveloping-stories&Itemid=191 |
