The 2016 BET Awards are finally here and your favorite singers, actors and actresses are getting recognized for their achievements in the entertainment industry.
Broadcast live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, the awards show has already announced winners in two important categories including Samuel L. Jackson for the Lifetime Achievement Award.
"It's an honor to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2016 BET Awards later this month," the actor said in a statement. "I'm humbled to be recognized by my peers and to join the company of the exemplary recipients before me."
In addition, Grey's Anatomy star
Jesse Williams will be recognized for using his celebrity platform to shine a light on important causes. "Jesse has proven to be a true pioneer of our generation," BET said in a statement. "[He] is a refreshing new face of activism during a time of crisis in this country."

Drake, nominated for best male hip hop artist, will go up against Beyonce, Rihanna, Kendrick Lamar and Bryson Tiller for video of the year. Newcomer Tiller, Chris Brown and Future are all nominated for four awards each.
Beasts of No Nation , which won actor awards for both Idris Elba and Abraham Attah at this year's Spirit Awards , is up for best movie alongside

A resident in Igbolomu wo gave his name as Uduimoh Ipeakhai, said streets in the areas were now deserted as people fled home, adding that schools, shops, markets and other businesses centres in the areas were now like ghost town as people deserted them.
Leadership reports that parents were said to have hurriedly ran to schools to take their children home while the police and army tried to restore some tranquility in the area.
An eye witness, who spoke on condition of anonymity said the militants invaded a school in the area, but allowed the children to go unhurt, warning them not to return to school again.
Residents fleeing Elegbete area said they are doing so because they do not know when the militants would launch another attack. The fleeing residents were seen carrying their loads, mattresses.

Although unconfirmed source had it that 13 people were killed in the attack by the militants who gained access through the creeks and water bodies in Ikorodu.

It was learnt that three Armoured Personnel Carriers, APC, have been deployed to the troubled area as military men and the police were seen with guns patrolling the area.
Confirming the attack, police spokesperson Dolapo Badmos said everything was now in control.
According to Badmos, the police authority had deployed well armed policemen to maintain peace in the area, adding that the army had also been deployed to the area to prevent further crisis.

DSP Zubairu Abubakar , the Command’s Public Relations Officer disclosed this on Sunday in Kaduna in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
According to him, the patrol team of Sabon Tasha Division received a distress call from a woman who was robbed by armed men at the Kakau over head bridge.
``When the patrol team arrived the scene, the robbers jumped out of their vehicle and ran into the bush.
`Members of the patrol team chased them and succeeded in arresting four of them," Abubakar said.
He said that dangerous weapons were recovered from them, while investigation is still ongoing.
Abubakar appealed to the public to give security operatives maximum cooperation in order to boost the fight against crime.
