Really? In my Edo state? Maybe for people close to you Mr Governor, because a lot of people I know who did not have jobs at the beginning of your regime still do not have jobs. Some have started one small business or another to survive, while some have left the state. 1 Like |

dacillin: Thank you very much. I just had time to check the thread now. Before we even go into further argument, do you know Nigeria is yet to have a National Policy on Solid Waste Management? So what will guide the international treaties we are signatory to, as well as programs, investments, etc. in the waste management sector? In my numerous outreaches, I've noticed that some people want to do the right thing, but there is no infrastructure. Even if the average Nigerian decides to start sorting waste into various streams, do we have colour-coded bins or effective collection systems in our urban/rural areas? The EPR is one of the most important programmes in waste management and was designed to make manufacturers of consumer goods take full responsibility for their products’ lifecycle especially at end of life phase, NESREA is the agency driving it, how well has the agency fared in policing the programme? I agree that there is need for behavioral change especially on littering and indiscriminate dumping of refuse, but the government also has to step-up. 3 Likes 1 Share |

omaigala: Thank you. We will keep trying our best to make governments at all levels listen. Waste management is often not considered a priority and absence of clear legislation and strong regulations makes it more complicated. |

Education / Nairalander Makes Case For Nigeria's Informal Waste Workers by AdesuwaObasuyi(f): 8:00am On Aug 07, 2019 |
I was one of the experts invited to speak at a 2-day Waste Symposium organised by Cranfield University and West Africa Energy in Lagos State, Nigeria. The symposium held on 25th and 26th July, 2019, and was themed ‘Achieving sustainable waste management and energy from waste in developing countries.' I made a presentation on 'The Integration of the Informal Waste Sector into Nigeria's SWM System: Barriers & Success Factors', the informal waste sector with workers such as the scavengers/wastepickers, is considered as the most directly vulnerable group in solid waste management and from my perspective, the economic and health state of Nigeria’s informal waste workers is a severe issue that needs urgent attention. My story was featured on page 25 of the @nigeriantribune on Tuesday, 6th August, 2019. Read online: https://tribuneonlineng.com/232202/ I was also interviewed by the TVC News crew, here is the link to the TVC news clip and my interview: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z3720xC2MCM My tweet on the event: https://twitter.com/adesuwagreen/status/1154346299875090432?s=19 15 Likes

Education / The 21st Century Nigerian And Environmental Degradation by AdesuwaObasuyi(f): 11:40am On Nov 23, 2018 |
Human beings and the environment are co-dependent on each other but a lot of people in Nigeria are ignorant and oblivious of environmental responsibility, this makes environmental degradation a profound challenge which requires immediate attention. Environmental degradation is the deterioration of the natural environment through pollution, depletion of resources, habitat and ecosystem disruption and the eradication of wildlife leading to the reduction of the general health of the environment. The deterioration of the Nigerian environment should be a principal concern of young Nigerians as it has direct implications for health and well-being both now and in the future. The causes and effects of environmental degradation must be addressed and tackled because the environmentally friendly use of natural resources and environmentally sustainable economic growth improves lives. The Nigerian environment must be maintained and preserved for both present and future generations. Read more here: https://adesuwaobasuyi..com/2018/10/the-21st-century-nigerian-and.html 3 Likes |
Education / Discussion On Waste Management In Nigeria by AdesuwaObasuyi(f): 7:47am On Nov 22, 2018 |
"A city that cannot effectively manage its waste is rarely able to manage more complex services such as health, education, or transportation." - Culled from World Bank's What A Waste. It is sad that in 2018, waste management in most cities in Nigeria is inefficient. I have opened this thread to see how this issue can be addressed amongst us as young people. I also have a thread on it on twitter, you can also join in the conversation(https://twitter.com/adesuwagreen/status/1054871145302896640?s=19). What is happening in your city/community regarding waste management, how do you think things can improve? 1 Like |
