Really? In my Edo state? Maybe for people close to you Mr Governor, because a lot of people I know who did not have jobs at the beginning of your regime still do not have jobs. Some have started one small business or another to survive, while some have left the state.

Hello Adesuwa.
Thank you and congratulations for your positive contribution to the society. I am affiliated with the Nigerian Institution of Environmental Engineers and presently serve as Chairman of the Benin Chapter. We would be glad to partner with your organization in the quest to protect our environment. Would prefer to take the discussion offline but I don't have a Twitter account. You can kindly reach out to us through nieebenin@gmail.com.
Kind regards,
Noghayin Guobadia.

Ok, I will send in an email.

I am a corp member serving at Jigawa and the level of waste here is growing. It isn't as bad as most cities yet but in a few years it would be.

I would like to connect with you and discuss ideas I have and seek your advice, thanks.

Please send me a message.

I must first commend you for being a friend of the environment. i disagree with you on the comment above. I'm a environmentalist, i know what the government have being doing in this regard. if you remember, when FEPA was not living to expectation, Govt. change it to NESERA which has being doing fine and Nigeria is signatory to many International treaties.
the only solution to environmental challenges is proper awareness of people starting from grass root especially their mind set.
"Remember what you threw to the environment, is the environment is going to throw back at you. becareful of your environment.............Dacillin"

Thank you very much.

I just had time to check the thread now. Before we even go into further argument, do you know Nigeria is yet to have a National Policy on Solid Waste Management? So what will guide the international treaties we are signatory to, as well as programs, investments, etc. in the waste management sector?

In my numerous outreaches, I've noticed that some people want to do the right thing, but there is no infrastructure. Even if the average Nigerian decides to start sorting waste into various streams, do we have colour-coded bins or effective collection systems in our urban/rural areas?

The EPR is one of the most important programmes in waste management and was designed to make manufacturers of consumer goods take full responsibility for their products’ lifecycle especially at end of life phase, NESREA is the agency driving it, how well has the agency fared in policing the programme?

I agree that there is need for behavioral change especially on littering and indiscriminate dumping of refuse, but the government also has to step-up.

Common sense should have told you she was interviewed by a journalist and the same people who interviewed her put her picture in the article that was published. Or are you in some way saying she’s the editor or owner of the newspaper where this was published. It’s better to keep quiet than to comment and remove all doubts

Thank you very much for this. I just replied him though and I didn't know you had responded on my behalf.

You made a case for waste workers and took a picture of only yourself?
And placed it in newspaper?

Is there NO EXTENT that a woman will go to seek attention?

I am not the writer of the column, the writer got interested in the post-event article and decided to publish it. Here's the link to the article I wrote on the subject and it contains pictures I took during my research: http:///2ZoHkxk.

I would love to bring a company that specialises in this area but I don't really know how it will fare well in the business environment and the politics in state governments.

We can discuss this.

This is commendable. But there's a vital part of this whole recycling thing that environmentalists are talking about. The welfare of these scavengers.

They are exposed to all infections and to make it worst, don't wear adequate protective gears and all.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2. Our waste management structure is very poor especially in the most states and LGA apart from the FCT whose best is not enough.

This is something that environmentalists needs to push down the throats of these nonchalant governors.

Thank you. We will keep trying our best to make governments at all levels listen. Waste management is often not considered a priority and absence of clear legislation and strong regulations makes it more complicated.

This is the type of thread that ought to make FP. But here it is still lying fallow. If it were to be 'Alexrep. Gives two Oloshos award for peace', it will be on FP in no time.

That being said, AdesuwaObasuyi, I commend your contribution in this regard. Especially when it's not all about keeping our environment clean, but a topic that stands for the welfare of people who has taken it as a job to ensure we live in a clean environment.

A week ago, I saw a woman sitting comfortably on a hip of waste that was loaded into a truck. She sat so comfortable that i wondered if she would later sit at a table to eat.

She had no apron, no boots, to nose guard......

And at the end, a take home of at most 20k in a month.... I'm sure it would be less though...

Thank you very much.

You raised a very important point, I actually spoke with the men and women who work on the dumpsites on the importance of always wearing PPE, I wrote about their responses in my article.

I have always wondered why Nigerians don't separate the recyclable waste from non recyclable ones when dumping them. we have a wealth of raw material wasting in Nigeria.

The lack of infrastructure is a huge barrier.
It's sad that we are yet to start taking advantage of the opportunities in sustainable waste management as a nation.

While I may not agree with some of your submissions, I'm proud of you pretty AdesuwaObasuyi.
You are the real feminist....you've redefined the narrative for Edo females and shown us that a woman's true beauty is not in her facial features but in the strength of her brain.

I hope other ladies here can realize that being a feminist is standing up to societal ills and global challenges like Environmental sustainability and social injustice in a world that thinks it is the job of a man.

Not to see themselves as bosses because they can smoke shisha and party just as hard as slaykings.
Then demand equality.

Nice one.

Thank you very much.

I was one of the experts invited to speak at a 2-day Waste Symposium organised by Cranfield University and West Africa Energy in Lagos State, Nigeria.

The symposium held on 25th and 26th July, 2019, and was themed ‘Achieving sustainable waste management and energy from waste in developing countries.'

I made a presentation on 'The Integration of the Informal Waste Sector into Nigeria's SWM System: Barriers & Success Factors', the informal waste sector with workers such as the scavengers/wastepickers, is considered as the most directly vulnerable group in solid waste management and from my perspective, the economic and health state of Nigeria’s informal waste workers is a severe issue that needs urgent attention.

My story was featured on page 25 of the @nigeriantribune on Tuesday, 6th August, 2019. Read online: https://tribuneonlineng.com/232202/

I was also interviewed by the TVC News crew, here is the link to the TVC news clip and my interview:

Education / The 21st Century Nigerian And Environmental Degradation by AdesuwaObasuyi(f): 11:40am On Nov 23, 2018
Human beings and the environment are co-dependent on each other but a lot of people in Nigeria are ignorant and oblivious of environmental responsibility, this makes environmental degradation a profound challenge which requires immediate attention. Environmental degradation is the deterioration of the natural environment through pollution, depletion of resources, habitat and ecosystem disruption and the eradication of wildlife leading to the reduction of the general health of the environment. The deterioration of the Nigerian environment should be a principal concern of young Nigerians as it has direct implications for health and well-being both now and in the future. The causes and effects of environmental degradation must be addressed and tackled because the environmentally friendly use of natural resources and environmentally sustainable economic growth improves lives. The Nigerian environment must be maintained and preserved for both present and future generations.

Education / Discussion On Waste Management In Nigeria by AdesuwaObasuyi(f): 7:47am On Nov 22, 2018
"A city that cannot effectively manage its waste is rarely able to manage more complex services such as health, education, or transportation." - Culled from World Bank's What A Waste.

It is sad that in 2018, waste management in most cities in Nigeria is inefficient. I have opened this thread to see how this issue can be addressed amongst us as young people. I also have a thread on it on twitter, you can also join in the conversation(https://twitter.com/adesuwagreen/status/1054871145302896640?s=19).
What is happening in your city/community regarding waste management, how do you think things can improve?
