Akinwande Oluwole "Wole" Babatunde Soyinka (Yoruba: Akinwándé Oluwo̩lé Babátúndé S̩óyinká, pronounced [wɔlé ʃójĩŋká]; born 13 July 1934) is a Nigerian playwright and poet. He was awarded the 1986 Nobel Prize in Literature, the first African to be honored in that category.

Soyinka was born into a Yoruba family in Abeokuta. After study in Nigeria and the UK, he worked with the Royal Court Theatre in London. He went on to write plays that were produced in both countries, in theatres and on radio.

He took an active role in Nigeria's political history and its struggle for independence from Great Britain. In 1965, he seized the Western Nigeria Broadcasting Service studio and broadcast a demand for the cancellation of the Western Nigeria Regional Elections. In 1967 during the Nigerian Civil War, he was arrested by the federal government of General Yakubu Gowon and put in solitary confinement for two years.

Soyinka has been a strong critic of successive Nigerian governments, especially the country's many military dictators, as well as other political tyrannies, including the Mugabe regime in Zimbabwe. Much of his writing has been concerned with "the oppressive boot and the irrelevance of the colour of the foot that wears it".[4] During the regime of General Sani Abacha (1993–98), Soyinka escaped from Nigeria via the "NADECO Route" on a motorcycle. Living abroad, mainly in the United States, he was a professor first at Cornell University and then at Emory University in Atlanta, where in 1996 he was appointed Robert W. Woodruff Professor of the Arts. Abacha proclaimed a death sentence against him "in absentia". With civilian rule restored to Nigeria in 1999, Soyinka returned to his nation. He has also taught at the universities of Oxford, Harvard and Yale.

From 1975 to 1999, he was a Professor of Comparative Literature at the Obafemi Awolowo University, then called the University of Ife. With civilian rule restored to Nigeria in 1999, he was made professor emeritus. Soyinka has been a Professor of Creative Writing at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. In the fall of 2007 he was appointed Professor in Residence at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, California, US.

Wednesday 12th July, 2017 -NationalinsightNews

The Chairman Senate committee on ICT and Cybercime Senator Abdulfatain Buhari today, Wednesday July 12.
Called the attention of the senate to the need for the Federal Government to intervene on the crisis rocking Ladoke Akintola University of Technology with the intent to support in funding the institution so as to save the future of the students and the institution
Buhari, APC representing Oyo North Senatorial districts in a motion titled “Urgent move by the Federal Government to intervene in Ladoke Akintola University of Technology imbroglio in order to save the future of the innocent youth which was also co sponsored by 43 other senators urge Federal government to find immediate solution to the problems by injecting funds needed for the school to re-open immediately
He also urge the Federal government should set up a committee that will look into the whole situation in order to provide permanent solution by taking over the institution.

Though his prayers were not taken but the Senate called on the governors of the two owner states to sit down and find a lasting solution to the problem especially on the issue of ownership
Senator Buhari in his paper expressed displeasure that LAUTECH which hitherto had the reputation of being the best state owned university in the country now had nothing to his credit than the reputation of being the most strike ridden university in the university as the university cannot an academic year without going on strike for more than 10 months or more due to persistent nonpayment of salaries of members of staff
He noted that the current pitiable situation of LAUTECH has pathetically shown that the continuous joint ownership in the management of the affairs of the university by the present state is difficult and it has become necessary for the Federal government to intervene and review this nature of ownership “
Part of the motion read “worried by the fact that the university is currently in the middle of a strike which has crippled the activities of the university for more than a year due to the inability of the parent state to provide the sum of N4Bn to pay the accumulated salaries and areas if members of staffs and thereby leaving over 3000 members of staff of the university wallowing in economic hardship and poverty.

“Saddened that the career of over 34,000 students of the university are currently under jeopardy turning them into social miscreants and leaving the parents who have labored to give their wards quality education languishing in pains and agony for no fault of theirs”
Majority of the Senators who contributed to the motion described the situation as sympathetic and call for immediate action on the issue to as to save the future of the younger generations and the ones to come
Senator Barabbas Gemade from Benue north in his contributions said “ This motion is a very sympathetic one, especially when it affects 34, 000 young people who are today in jeopardy of an institution that is not working, we must find a way of dealing with this problem so that the issue at stake will be cleared for the children to enjoy their school lives”,

“Many states today are in economic situation that did not give them permission to finance their university properly, however they still need to do what they have to do the state of Oyo and Osun have not acted properly as far as this important institution is concerned, when they university was established it was a single state and when the state was split into two each wing went and establish another state university abandoning the one that had to run they were not wise in taking the decision”

He however suggested that the two states should be compelled to meet up with their responsibilities on the institution and find a lasting to the imbroglio.
Senator Babajide Omoworare in in his contributions called the attention of the Senate to the efforts made by the government of Oyo and Osun to rescue the institution by setting up an auditing firm to look into the finances and management of the institution with a view of finding a lasting solution to the problem.

The Senate President, Bukola Saraki however ruled that the two state governors should sit down and find a lasting solution to the crisis rocking the institution especially on the issue of ownership.

PoliticsSaraki Swears In Ademola Adeleke As Osun-West Senator by ADEWUMIMichael(op): 1:22pm On Jul 12, 2017
The Senate has sworn in Ademola Adeleke as the lawmaker representing Osun West Senatorial District.

The new lawmaker was dressed in white agbada and ‘M’ shaped cap, the signature dress of his late elder brother and predecessor, Senator Isiaka Adeleke.

The senior Adeleke represented the senatorial district at the Senate before his death on April 23, 2017.

The younger Adeleke walked into the chamber at 11:19 am, accompanied by his wife, children and some unidentified guests. He was sworn in immediately.

Clerk to the Senate, Mr. Nelson Ayewo, conducted the oath taking in the presence of President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, and other lawmakers.

The process ended at 11:22 am, after which Adeleke walked to Saraki for a handshake.
The ceremony took a dramatic turn when the Deputy Minority Whip, Senator Abiodun Olujimi (PDP/Ekiti-South) led Adeleke round the chamber to introduce him to members of the PDP caucus.

As this was ongoing, Adeleke made his now popular dance steps, which generated laughter in the chamber.

A video of the lawmaker’s peculiar dance steps in celebration of his victory at the by-election had gone viral on the Internet and social media.

Adeleke had defected from the All Progressives Congress to the PDP before the poll and defeated the APC candidate and choice of Governor Rauf Aregbesola, Senator Mudashiru Hussain, at the district’s by-election on Saturday.

The Independent National Electoral Commission had issued a certificate of return to Adeleke on Tuesday.

The late Adeleke represented the district on the platform of the APC, while his younger brother succeeded him as PDP senator.

It is calling for worldwide notice, celebration and exchange of pleasantries, dining and full of appreciation to God seeing a set of twin, born together, survived through the odds of living and maeking their 104th birthday together alive.

I would like to say Happy Birthday to Piere and Paul Langerock of Belgium on their 104th birthday marked on Saturday 8th July 2017,

Piere and Paul lived together throughout the years back, worked together as court magistrates, surprisingly they are both unmarried and currently sharing a room at a nursing room in Ghent, Belgium.

The pair said they sometimes regretted not having had any children or grandchildren, but they were each other’s best friends.

The elegantly dressed centenarians who had long careers as court magistrates in the 20th century, said they preferred speaking French and being addressed as Pierre and Paul.

If Piere and Paul could survive the next two years (live up to 2019), they would both advance from oldest living twin to ever living old male twin on earth. The record would be matching in 2018 when they will be 105.

Christianity EtcRe: 5 Most Important Things You Need To Know About Speaking In Tongue by ADEWUMIMichael(op): 9:55am On Jul 09, 2017
adepeter26:
Impaired speech == speaking in tongues
I wept for your ignorance
Christianity Etc5 Most Important Things You Need To Know About Speaking In Tongue by ADEWUMIMichael(op):
Without a doubt, speaking in tongues is the most controversial spiritual gift mentioned in the New Testament. Is it from God or the devil? Should believers ignore it, oppose it, or embrace it? There are many legitimate questions regarding the gift of tongues that deserve a thoughtful, biblical response. Let's tackle five of them.

1. Is speaking in tongues from God or the devil?
The most important thing you need to know about speaking in tongues is what Jesus said about it, and He did not mince His words in Mark 16:17: "And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues." Jesus declared that tongues is a supernatural sign that can and should accompany everyone who believes in Him. God does not give His children any bad gifts, so we shouldn't fear or ridicule the gift of tongues.

2. Are people making it up when they speak in tongues?

The gift of tongues is a known or heavenly language unknown to the speaker that enables him or her to communicate directly with God. Paul said in 1 Cor. 13:1, "If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels..." When you receive the gift of tongues, in a split second the Holy Spirit downloads a language into your spirit without you ever having to learn it.
In 2006, researchers at the University of Pennsylvania took brain images of five people while they spoke in tongues. Their research was published in The New York Times . The leader of the study team was Dr. Andrew Newberg, who arrived at this conclusion:

"We noticed a number of changes that occurred functionally in the brain. Our finding of decreased activity in the frontal lobes during the practice of speaking in tongues is fascinating because these subjects truly believe that the spirit of God is moving through them and controlling them to speak. ...Our brain-imaging research shows us that these subjects are not in control of the usual language centers during this activity, which is consistent with their description of a lack of intentional control while speaking in tongues."

When they prayed in tongues, their frontal lobes, the willful part of the brain we use to think and control what we do, were quiet. The language center of their brains—the part we use to speak in our native language—were quiet as well. The people were not in a trance; they were fully aware of what was happening. The researchers were unable to pinpoint which part of the brain was controlling this behavior of speaking in tongues. Dr. Newberg went on to say, "The amazing thing was how the images supported people's interpretation of what was happening. ... The way they describe it, and what they believe, is that God is talking through them."

Speaking in tongues is clearly not a fabricated language, as these scientists have confirmed. It is a spiritual language given to us by God to communicate with Him.

3. Is speaking in tongues a fringe gift that only a few people receive?

The gift of tongues was the most common spiritual gift in the New Testament church. The Bible tells us in Acts 2:4 that all of the original 120 disciples at Pentecost spoke in tongues in the Upper Room: "All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them." We don't know if they all received the gift of faith or healing or discernment, but we know for a fact that all of them received the gift of tongues.

Today, there are more than 600 million charismatic-Pentecostal believers worldwide, the second-largest group of Christians after Catholics. Pentecostals and charismatic churches are by no means a small, fringe movement; on the contrary, they form the fastest-growing religious movement in the world. The gift of tongues is not reserved for a select few. Paul made it clear in 1 Cor. 14:5 that he wanted every believer to pray in tongues (for personal edification) and prophesy (to edify the church): "I would like every one of you to speak in tongues, but I would rather have you prophesy."

4. Did the gift of tongues cease after the first century, or is it still active today?
The doctrine of cessationism is firmly entrenched in Reformed Christianity. This is the belief that the apostolic and charismatic gifts (including speaking in tongues) ceased after the original 12 apostles passed away. However, several notable early church fathers

—such as Justin Martyr (100-165), Irenaeus (115-202), Tertullian (160-220), and Origen (185-254)—recorded that the spiritual gifts, including speaking in tongues, were still active in the church in their days, long after John had passed away around 100 AD.

Peter proclaimed in Acts 2:39 that the gift of tongues is for everyone who is called by God: "The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call." Paul wrote in 1 Cor. 13:8-9 that when that which is perfect comes, tongues will cease. That is a reference to the Second Coming of Christ. The Bible teaches that no one is perfect except Jesus. When Christ returns, we will not need to speak in tongues to communicate with God because we will be with Him. But until then, the gift of tongues is available to any believer who desires it.

5. What are people saying when they pray in tongues?

The Bible reveals five main things that happen when believers pray in tongues:

1. They are speaking directly to God. 1 Corinthians 14:2, "For anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God. Indeed, no one understands him; he utters mysteries with his spirit." Tongues is an intimate and direct line of communication with God.

2. They are declaring God's wonders. Acts 2:11, "We hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues!" Far from being nonsense, when we pray in tongues we are actually declaring the wonders and mysteries and majesty of God. How could that possibly be a bad thing?

3. They are praising God. Acts 10:46, "For they heard them speaking in tongues and praising God." Even if we don't understand what we are saying when we speak in tongues, we are praising God in the Spirit (1 Cor. 14:16).

4. They are edifying themselves. 1 Cor. 14:4, "He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church." Praying in tongues is like a spiritual workout—it builds you up and makes you stronger spiritually.

5. The Holy Spirit is praying through them, declaring God's will. Romans 8:26-27, "We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express...because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God's will." Praying in the Spirit will bring revelation and insight into God's will for your life.

If you do not believe in the gift of tongues or have had a bad experience with the charismatic movement, I encourage you to the study the Scriptures with an open mind. Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal the truth about tongues to you.

If you desire the gift of tongues, pray for it in faith until you receive it. Jesus said in Luke 11:13, "How much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?" Sometimes we have to ask and keep on asking, seek and keep on seeking, and knock and keep on knocking until we receive our answer to prayer.

If you already have the gift of tongues, use it every day. In 1 Cor. 14:18, Paul boasted about how often he prayed in tongues: "I thank God that I speak in tongues more than all of you." Tongues is a real language, and as with any language, you have to use it in order to increase your fluency and vocabulary.

Are there excesses and abuse with the use of the gift of tongues? Yes, of course, and they need to be corrected, but don't throw out the baby with the bath water by rejecting the gift of tongues altogether. Let us take the words of the Apostle Paul in 1 Cor. 14:39 to heart: "Therefore, my brothers, be eager to prophesy, and do not forbid speaking in tongues " (emphasis added.)

but first you have to believe in the trinity meaning Jesus Christ is God

take it line by line

our father... meaning u are professing Jesus Christ as your Lord

hallowed be your name ..Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
. u exalt God and u believe in the his powers.

give us this day. u are dedicating the day to God

and the rest is explanatory .

now if you praise God , ask God for forgiveness and protection from evil , your daily bread ( successful in what you do )

what more can you ask for againhuh

our God is a simple God . some people have made him look uncessarily complicated ,for their selfish interest

saying the our Father every morning will do wonders in your life.

don't trust me

don't trust anyone

but trust only God and his words
OK thanks

I thought there are conditions attached to speaking in tongue in the bible, such as.
1 when the holly spirit descend on you...
2 when there is some one to interpret what you are saying..
..and I also realize that, the apostles spoke in other people's language...
...but how you people speaks in tongue in the absence of all this is what I don't understand. can you clarify me on this pls.?
Actually, as you said it, you can only speak in tongue when the holy Spirit descend on you,

There's no way anybody can speak in tongue without the Holy Spirit descending on the person,

Otherwise, it's fake
