I read your post on how you are finding it hard to break into tech.

What you need is to change your approach. I don't know what you are doing but you are doing it wrong.

Even if you acquire an extra degree, no one will hand you a role in tech if you are not competent.

You need to take the tech thing serious, learn the trade. Bad as it may be in 2025, people are sending rejection letters to HRs because they got offers from another company on twitter.
Hmmmn... It is well

Hello everyone,

I’m at a crossroads in my career and could really use some advice from those with experience. I’m a 30-year-old male, and I’ve been teaching for several years now. While I appreciate the experience, I can’t shake the feeling of stagnation—I haven’t truly advanced in my field or made significant strides related to my course of study.

Now, I want to take a bold step forward, but I’m torn between two paths:

Pursuing a Master’s degree to deepen my expertise and possibly open up better opportunities in my current field.
Starting afresh by enrolling in a university to study a computer-related course, since tech is a field I find intriguing and potentially rewarding.
I’d love to hear from those who have faced similar decisions or have insights into the best path forward. Which option do you think offers better prospects in the long run?

Looking forward to your thoughts!

I've been trying to break into the tech industry for a while now, focusing on frontend development. So far, the journey has been anything but easy. I managed to land an internship with a startup at some point, but it was short-lived due to financial challenges the company faced.

Every day, I scour LinkedIn and Nigerian job platforms, but tech jobs are scarce. Most openings I find were posted weeks ago, and for the few fresh ones, the number of applicants skyrockets almost immediately, making it nearly impossible to stand out.

Frustrated, I decided to explore foreign opportunities, especially remote roles. But that path seems even tougher—most employers prioritize candidates who are domiciled in their countries. The competition is simply on another level.

Now, as 2025 approaches, I find myself at a crossroads. I want to ask experienced tech professionals and those who've navigated similar struggles:

Is it worth pushing forward and improving my skills to stay in the frontend path?
Are there specific strategies or skills that can help me stand out in such a competitive space?
Or, should I consider pivoting to another field entirely?
Your insights would mean a lot to me. For those who've been in my shoes, how did you break through? What advice can you share for someone trying to find their footing in tech?
Are you mocking me?

You make it sound so easy like you are the one dishing out the jobs.

Look at this roles in Europe on LinkedIn:

Lead Dotnet Developer 14 hours ago · Over 100 applicants

Senior C# Developer -16 hours ago · 83 applicants

Java Software Engineer 2 weeks ago · 57 people clicked apply
This shit is crazy. The only place you'll get fewer applications is those Scandinavian countries and those ones sef depends on whether it's remote or onsite. Simple entry level jobs sef don get over 100 applicants, the rest will be thrown into the bin.

Bullshit. I only responded as to not discourage newbies. I also heard the same thing then that it was saturated. I was working in Nigeria left Nigeria learnt another language and still working in the same field which is said to be saturated 😂😂. If you are in Nigeria and you have the opportunity to learn to code better take it very seriously especially if someone is supporting you with electricity and internet. Take it like your life depends on it. You can continue being negative it’s none of my business. You don’t know me and I don’t know you.
And I told them oh.

True o. In our time they said developers weren’t needed cause Wordpress and wix existed and people on Nairaland were doing website for 15000. Anyone that has opportunity to learn programming in Nigeria should take it very seriously.
What about challenge for junior and beginners to get a foothold in the industry.

Well, from what I'm able to gather here, it's dangerous venturing into web development as a beginner. It's better exploring other niche that are complex. It sucks being a beginner these days.

Better start freelance work now before men go too join am like sardine

Or

Build something and profit mustn't be a startup

2019 - I built a site for pirating Korean movies
No ads , nothing hosted on my home server

2022 - I sold the site for unknown amount of BTC

Most of my work na volunteer based, work for free, na fellow progeammera day refer me to their bosses for contract work
Freelance is a different story compared to even applying to jobs, a lot of folks on those freelance websites. As for volunteering I am considering that too. It's just a way to advertise myself. Thanks

It’s like that as a beginner. You just need to be more patient and more intensive with your job search. I remember when I got into the field back in 2020 it wasn’t also easy to get a job. I was applying everyday. I would set LinkedIn to worldwide and apply to any job I come across. I joined forums like Reddit too and would chip in on discussions and that’s how I found my first gig.

I would advise that you keep on learning. Learn more advanced front end stuff and get good at them like web animations and stuff like that then continue to apply. Also work on your interview skills so you don’t blow up any little opportunity you have.
Aside animations which other things, I'm well aware of TS, nextJS, shadCN thinking of picking up graphQL too so many on my mind tho.

I don't like writing JS for mobile, Dart is closer to java for me and performance, but I will advise React native for jobs since it's faster to learn
You can use TS with RN but I understand where you are coming from sha.

Why flutter?
Is it that it's the future or just a shiny new toy. Because me sef wan pick up either of the two just to boost employability
