You are very naive, you are making a decision because of your friends. If you guys switch position I'm very sure they will not turn down that offer. It will shock you that those so-called friends would ghost you when they make it and you will live to regret it. Person wey get head no dey get cap, they say. |

airsaylongcome: Yes AI will lead to the loss of some jobs just like Word processing led to the near-death of "typist". But not a widespread loss of jobs, especially in IT, as a lot of doomsday sayers are predicting. For the Nigerian market, has there really been a slow down? Or is there a competence gap between available jobs and the talent pool. I almost definitely don't think AI has had an impact on job losses in the Nigerian tech space. Not yet at least and possibly not as impactful Oh but I think the Nigerian market is not yet a big market for tech because we have few investors on the industry. If you go to linkedin, most jobs I see there have expired and those that show up are with a shitty pay requiring humongous skillset. |

airsaylongcome: So wait a sec, you honestly think GenAI tools like ChatGPT has led to the slump in the job market? Really? The market is cooling because a lot of employers were "over subscribed" in terms of employee hire. So it's purely a business decision to right-size their labour force and not a decision driven by the near ubiquitous presence of AI I understand your analysis. Post COVID the market has nose dived. But we should not downplay the effect of AI however little. What can you say about the Nigerian market. What's the cause of their predicament? |

What he has in his CV is similar to what ETH had when coming to United. It's only a matter of time when fans start throwing insults at him. He needs to be ruthless with those rotten players in United otherwise he's gonna end up like his predecessors. |

MT: Nigeria is not finished. Maybe you are.
People are still getting good jobs.
I consult for a financial institution in Nigeria on enterprise tech solution and I know young guys (between 24 to 27 years) getting jobs every week, travelling out on holiday to western world, balling big and coming back. Most of them work remotely, enjoy their lives. Companies abroad headhunt most of them, and the bank keeps recruiting with good pay in Nigeria standard.
These guys easily go to any embassy and get visa. I witness it. These guys choose and pick jobs. Banks place them on special salary scale, different from the operations guys. They have enviable perks. Banks send them on trainings in western worlds and they never think of japa. They go and come back, even collect fat estacode.
I am not talking about any dicks and harrys, I am talking about tech guys, which is my turf . Come to Island in Lagos and see for yourself.
So, if you are finished as an individual, there are some people killing it big in Nigeria, and hey, they are not politicians but they have skillsets which you lack.
And hey, how is Chile where you are slaving? How many folks have these privilege you re talking about. There is a high barrier for entry level folks here in the tech field. Those guys doesn't represent the sample of space of Nigerian job seekers in the tech industry. |

emma2024: I have been a nairalander for years now with another account but I created this one for the purpose
I am 41 without any accomplishment. Single and broke.
I have a low self esteem that I am always afraid of the unknown. I have been fighting this for years but to no avail
My friends I started with in the industry are doing very well but I am still at the bottom.
I missed so many opportunities because I was thinking I could not handle it.
Even though my friends believe in me but fear always ruin it for me.
I hardly apply for jobs and get interviews because of fear of failure.
I have worked hard, learnt so many things and master of none.
My industry is now saturated and to get a job now is very much harder.
And if I want to get another job I will be starting out afresh and companies are looking for experienced people.
The knowledge I have is already phasing out.
I am full of regrets and confused. I feel I have wasted my life.
Can I still make at this age? How do I remove this low self esteem? I am getting depressed as everyday passes by.
I am currently working in a startup Show me way, me sef need skills |

IyaTola: I can sense the frustration, self-doubt, and despair in your words. First, please know that you're not alone, and many people face similar struggles.
*You are not a failure*
At 41, you've got experience, skills, and knowledge. Recognize your strengths and accomplishments, no matter how small they may seem.
*Breaking free from low self-esteem and fear*
1. Acknowledge and accept your emotions. 2. Identify negative self-talk patterns and challenge them. 3. Focus on your strengths, skills, and achievements. 4. Set realistic, achievable goals. 5. Celebrate small victories. 6. Seek support from friends, family, or a therapist. 7. Practice self-care (exercise, meditation, hobbies). 8. Learn to reframe failure as an opportunity for growth.
*Overcoming fear of failure*
1. Recognize that failure is a natural part of growth. 2. Break down large goals into smaller, manageable tasks. 3. Develop a growth mindset. 4. Take calculated risks. 5. Learn from others' successes and failures. 6. Practice positive self-talk. 7. Visualize success.
*Revitalizing your career*
1. Update your skills to match industry demands. 2. Network and attend industry events. 3. Highlight transferable skills. 4. Consider freelancing or consulting. 5. Explore related industries or roles. 6. Create a strong online presence (LinkedIn, personal website). 7. Seek guidance from mentors or career coaches.
*Starting fresh*
1. Don't view it as starting from scratch; leverage your experience. 2. Focus on building a strong foundation. 3. Set clear goals and timelines. 4. Surround yourself with supportive people. 5. Stay positive and persistent.
*Depression and mental health*
1. Seek professional help (therapist, counselor). 2. Talk to trusted friends or family. 3. Practice self-care. 4. Join support groups. 5. Prioritize mental health.
*You can still make it at 41*
Many successful individuals achieved their goals later in life:
- J.K. Rowling published Harry Potter at 32. - Stan Lee created his first comic at 39. - Vera Wang became a fashion designer at 40. - Julia Child published her first cookbook at 49.
*Actionable steps*
1. Schedule a therapy session. 2. Create a list of your strengths and accomplishments. 3. Set specific, achievable goals. 4. Reach out to friends or mentors for support. 5. Start learning new skills or updating existing ones.
Remember, your life is not wasted. You have the power to change your narrative. Take small steps, and progress will follow.
Keep in mind that I'm not a mental health professional. If you're struggling with depression or severe anxiety, please seek immediate help from a qualified professional. Wow! I need job |
