The Interior Minister, Ambrose Dery is asking the police service, in collaboration with the other security agencies to do more to improve the security of Ghanaians.

He says though available statistics reveal Ghana is safer today than the same period in previous years, Ghanaians still do not feel safe, a situation he describes as unfortunate.

Even though available statistics as now further confirmed by the Ashanti Regional Minister suggests that the Ghana Police Service fighting with other security agencies have made Ghana safer place today, that is fewer cases have made Ghana a safer place today, that is; fewer cases of crimes of murder and robbery of the last six months, that is the first Six months of 2017 as compared to preceding years, regrettably, the facts still remain that Ghanaians do not feel safe.

Speaking at the National Police Command Conference in Kumasi, Mr. Dery is convinced a transformation agenda being pursued by the police administration which will increase police-civilian interactions, will help bridge the gap.

He assured the Inspector General of Police of government’s support in his quest to transform the police service to become one of the best in the world.

The two-day conference, which is under the theme Transforming Ghana Police Service into a world class police- the role of Regional Police Commanders seeks to brainstorm and strategize to position the Ghana Police Service as an effective policing department.

It is being attended by senior police officers, including all commissioners, deputy commissioners, regional and district commanders, among others.

According to Mr. Ambrose Dery, the government in an effort to bridge police-civilian ratio will recruit 8,000 new officers, with women recruits being targeted.

A planned meeting between officials of the Ministry of Interior and the Inspector General of Police to ensure more women are recruited into the service has been scheduled.

Former Ghana and Anderlecht star Nii Odartey Lamptey says he is ready to start his life again after securing a divorce from his estranged wife Gloria Lamptey. Lamptey on Wednesday (June 14, 2017) was granted a divorce from Gloria after a protracted legal battle (three years) over how their assets would be shared.

The court headed over Justice Cecilia Don-Chebe Agbevey allocated Mr Lamptey’s property at Dome as well as 40 percent of a GHc500,000 sum as alimony to his ex-wife. The 21-year relationship between the married couple hit the rocks in 2013 after DNA results revealed that he was not the biological father of their three children.

However, Lamptey says although he has lost some of his properties to Gloria in the ruling, he is happy to be a free man.

Today, with the final judgment, I thank God that my properties, my school, and others I have kept them. She can take the little awarded her. Today the divorce has been granted and that burden that was on me is gone. Now, I’m a free and happy man, ready to start life again, Lamptey said in an interview after the verdict was announced.

I thank God for taking me through this fight successfully because I didn’t know how far I could go. I’m grateful that the toils that I have gone through for the past 21 years did not go in vain. Though I have lost a few properties, I’m very content that at the end of this case, I have retained most of them and I’m still alive too.

Lamptey who had two biological children with his girlfriend, former Ghana’s Most Beautiful finalist, and actress Ruweida Yakubu during his separation from his ex-wife also disclosed that he nearly committed suicide when he found out that he was not the father of three kids he catered for 21 years.

When I was informed that the [three] children were not mine, I know how I felt. Playing the role of a father to children I thought were mine for 21 years and realizing otherwise later, I nearly committed suicide. God gave me renewed energy and courage to withstand these pains and today, I can say I have gotten over them all.

Lamptey owns the Golden Lions Soccer Academy and Glow Lamp International School.

Ex-Ghana international, Nii Odartey Lamptey has finally revealed what he wanted to do after being told that the three children he fathered for 21 years were not his.

In 2013, reports emerged that DNA tests had uncovered the fact that Lamptey’s three children with now ex-wife Gloria were not indeed fathered by the former World’s best juvenile player.

After suspecting the wife of infidelity, the former midfielder, who represented Ghana at the 1992, 1994 and 1996 African Nations Cup tournaments, secretly took samples from the three children and did a DNA test, which reportedly revealed that none of three girls were fathered by him.

An Accra High Court on Wednesday declared Gloria Appiah as officially an ex-wife to the former Anderletch midfielder.

And Odartey has finally broken silence on what came to mind when he was first told about the DNA test results.

I’m the only one who knows how I felt when I was told of the results, Odartey told.

Initially, I had resolved to hang myself and end it all but later on, God strengthened me and it appeared like nothing had happened,

I will advise all me never to take their life because, with God, all things are possible,

I never thought I could have the courage to withstand this. He added.

An Accra High Court on Wednesday declared Gloria Appiah as officially an ex-wife to the former Anderletch midfielder.

Gloria failed in an attempt to gain 50% share of his assets after an Accra High Court ruled that having three children out of wedlock is an “adulterous” life.

At the Court Complex in Accra, Justice Cecilia Don-Chebe Agbevey put finality to the bitter divorce battle between the estranged lovers which had lingered on since 2013.

During the court sitting, Gloria Appiah’s motion to be awarded half of each of the ex footballers properties was completed quashed.

She has however been allocated Nii Lamptey’s property located at Dome as he had proposed.

The estranged wife has also been ordered to vacate Nii Odartey Lamptey’s 7-bedroom apartment in East Legon within 30 days.

A Nigerian model based in the United States of America, Nneoma Anosike, has filed an action against Wema Bank PLC before a Lagos Division of the Federal High Court for allegedly using her photos for commercial purposes without authorization.

Ms. Anosike, 22, sued the bank through her father, Frank Anosike, who doubles as her lawyer, claiming N97 million as damages.

According to the plaintiff, the bank on April 11, 2016, used her photo for a commercial on a social network platform, Instagram, without her permission or authorization from Ford Models Inc, her American management company.

Among her prayers, the plaintiff is seeking an order directing the defendant to pay N75 million for allegedly passing off her services.

She is also seeking an injunction warning the defendant from passing off or causing others to pass off her professional services and a declaration that she is entitled to her privacy of her correspondence under Section 37 of the Nigerian Constitution.

The plaintiff is also seeking an order directing the bank to pay her N20 million for the breach of her privacy by advertising her private correspondence; an order to publish a written apology in two national dailies in Nigeria and in the U.S.; and N2 million as the cost of filing the suit.

According to the statement of claims attached to the suit, the plaintiff claimed that she is a trustworthy international model who had won many laurels within and outside the country, including the ‘Elite Model Look’ 2013 in Nigeria.

Ms. Anosike said based on her reputation, Pepsi-Cola Nigeria made her its brand ambassador for Aquafina water.

The plaintiff further averred that her contract with Ford Models Inc took her to the U.S. and that prior to the defendant’s advert of her, she was in negotiations with the company for a renewal of her contract.

But on April 11 last year, according to Ms. Anosike, the management of Ford Models summoned her to a meeting on April 12 wherein she was presented with her photo advert procured from the Instagram account of the defendant.

She alleged that the defendant mutilated and edited her professional photo for the said advert uploaded on the internet, adding that based on that action, her contract renewal with the American company has been jeopardized.

But in its statement of defense, the defendant averred that the bank was not a party to the alleged modeling contract between the plaintiff and the American company and was not privy to it.

The bank also stated that the photo in question was sourced from social media for its weekly online motivational and educational series, intended to inspire going online users.

The bank denied using the plaintiff’s photo for any advertisement purposes or for any commercial gain but for a purely free educational purpose under its Corporate Social Responsibility program.

Justice Ibrahim Buba adjourned the matter till June 15 for further hearing.

Two people are reported dead in an exchange of gunfire at Taifa Burkina in Accra on Thursday, 11 May.

According to an eyewitness, one of the victims was shot dead while the other was butchered by a mob.

The eyewitness, who only gave his name as Ben, told Accra News’ Ama Brako Ampofo that he saw a mob chasing after two men, one of whom was holding a pump action gun.

According to him, the one with the gun entered a house but turned his gun on a guy who followed him in an attempt to arrest him for an alleged theft, killing him instantly.

The mob, realizing the accused had shot and killed someone, turned on him and butchered him.

Asked if she has ever been approached with a Kumawood movie script, Joselyn said Nobody has ever approached with a Kumwood script for me to even say no! It breaks my heart because I want to be able to speak Twi and Ga in movies. There is a side of me that most people don’t know and I feel with a movie like that it would be very good to show that side of me.

The “Adams Apples” Actress said it’s just a perception out there that the likes of her and other English movies stars look down on Kumawood movies but that is not the case at all.

Joselyn’s comment comes at a time when a 14-member committee to select a film to represent Ghana at the 90th Oscars which will run in 2018 has been appointed and according to the committee the basic rule of the foreign language Oscar category is that film must be in a Ghanaian language and capture the true essence of Ghana as well as meet world filmmaking standards.

However, Joselyn said she is not stating her readiness to star in a Kumawood movies because of the Oscars opportunity, because this is something she has being longing to do all this while but

unfortunately, the movers and shakers of Kumawood have not looked her way yet.

Ghanaian actress based in Kumasi has thrown shots at individuals who tag her with the name ‘Kumawood’.According to the screen goddess, she hates being called a ‘Kumawood’ actress instead of a Ghanaian actress.

Speaking about her new movie, one panel the beautiful actress was a bitterly disappointed-panel member in the studio who referred to Emelia Brobbey as ‘Kumawood’ actress.

Explaining the genesis of the word ‘Kumawood’, the mother of two sons emphasized that ‘Kumawood’ is not for actors but for a respected company which is noted for organizing awards festival for Akan movie actors based in Kumasi.

When you were talking, you mentioned the word Kumawood, I was looking at you critically but if I wasn’t on radio I would have frown. I hate that name Kumawood. Kumawood isn’t for actors, it’s somebody’s company name someone who has organized awards, his company’s name is the Kumawood and Akoben Awards so it isn’t a brand name for actors from Kumasi. We have Ghana Actors Guild which most actors and actresses in Ghana are members, so I don’t get this brand ‘Kumawood’. I think automatically people are dividing the actors, she noted.

The award-winning actress seems to have the thought that once an actor or actress is called a Kumawood star then he or she has been underrated.

She noted that an actor or actress who is known for Akan movies should be called Ghanaian Movie Star.

I don’t believe in that name Kumawood because it pisses me off. Once we have a group recognized by Government (Ghana Actors Guild) stop branding us with other names.

Emelia Brobbey premiered her latest movie ‘Adanfo Bone’ last Saturday, May 6 at Miklin Hotel in Kumasi. The movie featured most of the known Movie stars like Bill Asamoah, Bishop Bernard Nyarko, Kwadwo Nkansah Lil Win, Nana Ama McBrown, Akrobeto, Akyere Bruwaa and many others.

She noted the rapid increase in foreign Telenovelas being shown on most Television stations across the country as the worst to have crippled the movie industry, rendering most of the Ghanaian Film makers jobless and incapacitated.

I produced a movie in January 2017 and because production has totally gone down I wasn’t able to come out with another movie until now in May, so how can I eat since market is low. I pray to God that those soap operas will be curtailed so we can have our jobs back, Emelia said.

The Executive Director of the Consumer Protection Agency (CPA), Kofi Kapito, has charged the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration to demand better services for Ghanaians from foreign missions.

Mr. Kapito explained that it was time Ghanaians spoke against unfair treatment because we are not slaves.

Cataloging a countless of problems, Mr. Kapito said he would petition the ministry to take action in the interest of Ghanaians.

He told Class that Wednesday, May 3, that the US Embassy, British High Commission, and other foreign missions must refund visa fees if they reject the applications of persons who wish to travel to that country.

He explained that in the case of the British High Commission, for instance, visa application fees vary depending on the duration of one’s stay in the UK. However, an individual who pays a higher amount for a particular duration could be given the approval to stay for a shorter period while the difference in visa cost is not refunded.

He was not enthused that foreign missions could easily obtain information on Ghanaian travelers from their banks when such information is supposed to be confidential.

The dissatisfied consumer protection advocate could not understand why Chinese travel to Ghana and obtain a visa on arrival yet Ghanaians who wish to travel to China cannot also obtain a visa after they have arrived in the Asian country.

For him, foreigners do not come up against such hostilities when they travel to Ghana and it was bad that the country’s leaders have done nothing about the ill treatments meted to Ghanaians.

Mr. Kapito emphasized that the time had come for such mistreatments to cease and called on stakeholders to ensure Ghanaians were treated fairly.

A policeman stationed at the Anyaa police station in Accra, Gabriel Tabiri, went berserk Tuesday by physically assaulting a taxi driver for allegedly jumping red traffic light.

The cab driver Kwabena Danso, who is traumatized, was disgraced in the open by the peacemaker with service number 36832. The officer allegedly approached him at a Fuel Station after allegedly jumping the light and ended up tearing apart his clothing.

Frequent users of that Anyaa stretch of the highway know that particular traffic light is faulty. It is usually on amber or switches to red and within a blink of an eye it turns green then amber than red, Danso explained that and has been corroborated by drivers who use that road often.

I was surprised the police officer came all the way to the filling station and said I was under arrest. I explained to him that the light doesn’t work and it’s a fact and even pointed it to him, but he insisted I have disobeyed traffic regulations.

“He kept pressing that we should go to the police station and I said he should sit in my car so we go together. However, he refused on the basis that there was someone already in the car. But I told him I can’t walk to the station when there is a vehicle which could make our journey faster and easier.

This resulted in an altercation and suddenly he held my shirt and began pulling and squeezing me by the neck. I restrained myself because of his uniform, but he went beyond his boundaries when I realized my dress was torn in the process. I was expecting him to give me some level of respect when it was left with my boxer shorts on, but he didn’t and kept stretching that too until I was stark naked in public, Danso narrated his ordeal.

According to the civilian, when I realized I was being disgraced, I decided to defend myself and that resulted in a physical brawl before I could gain my freedom. It took the intervention of the boys around to free me from his grips.

Danso had to go to a nearby shop to get a new attire to cover his unclothedness. He said he is currently suffering some pains on his forehead, chest, and neck after struggling with the police officer. The law enforcement agent left the scene and never pursued the case again, Danso added.

He has since reported the case to the Police Intelligence and Professional Standards (PIPS) Directorate.

According to Caroline Sampson, she was not allowed to take the passport picture because her dress was short.

She tweeted with a picture of the dress she wore to the Passport office to take the picture.

Interestingly, she is not the first person to have experienced that.

Others also tweeted that they had been bounced also before for similar dressing issues.

We are equally surprised because her dress is not that short and moreover the passport picture would just be her head to the shoulder area.

Multiple award-winning gospel artist and nurse Diana Hamilton has revealed she makes £26,000 annually from her career as a health professional in the UK but will always put her music before her role as a nurse.

The Yehowah Behwe hit maker, speaking If you put my two professions nursing and music on the table, I will always choose music over nursing on any day and any time.

When I was very young and about to write my exams at junior secondary school, my parents told me that I had a divine gift which was my voice, but that the music could wait and that my age and education could not and so I should finish my education then I could pursue my career in music.

My parents didn’t want to see me go hungry in the likelihood that I was not invited to perform at events or was unable to sell my music and so asked that I pursue nursing, as that will put food on my table every day while I practice my music on the sides.

Now, as we speak, I make £26,000 a year as a nurse, but I cannot measure how much I make in music. However, I can tell you that by the grace of God my music is not doing badly, I do not borrow money to pursue my music career.

Diana Hamilton, born Diana Antwi Boasiako, who is now based in the United Kingdom, started her musical career at the age of 13 as a backing vocalist for celebrated gospel artist Francis Agyei.

The ongoing debate about the AMERI deal and questions about its ingenuity and or rather an ingenuity remains with former Minister of State Vicky Bright joining in the controversial discussions.

For her, the previous NDC government and the energy ministry is solely responsible for the leakage of some government documents which were vital for the contract negotiations to the company in question.

Ms. Bright stated that records on the contract reveal there was some negotiation between senior government officials and AMERI prior to the committee’s arrival in Dubai for the signing of the agreement.

According to her, internal documentation between the Volta River Authority and the Ministry of power which should ideally have been in the possession of members of the committee were in Ameri’s possession before the agreement was signed; a situation she says goes to show that the documents were leaked.

The former Member of Parliament for Asunafo South George Boakye has rejected a case of Visa fraud leveled against him by the UK High Commission.

The former legislator’s dismissal of the charge comes after the UK High Commission in Ghana fingered him and three others in visa fraud.

According to the commission, the lawmakers used their diplomatic passports to apply for visas for persons traveling to the UK and never returned.

They are Richard Acheampong, NDC MP for Bia East in the Western region (NDC), Joseph Benhazin Dahah, NPP MP for Ntotroso in the Bono Ahafo region, Johnson Kwaku Adu, NPP MP for Ahafo Ano South West in the Ashanti region and George Boakye, former MP for Asunafo South in the Bono Ahafo region.

The UK’s High Commissioner Jon Benjamin in a letter dated January 20, 2017, to the Speaker of Parliament Mike Oquaye said: The British High Commission considers the actions of the MPs completely unacceptable. In some cases, these behaviors may arguably be criminal in nature.

He added we are also circulating this letter widely to other Diplomatic Missions which issue visas in Ghana in the expectation that some of them will consider similar action to ourselves against the above-named individuals.

But in his reaction to the development, Mr. Boakye said there was nothing fraudulent about his actions explaining that the visa was legally acquired.

Mr. Boakye on September 11, 2012, according to Mr. Benjamin’s letter applied for visas for himself and his 37-year-old daughter, Joyce Boakye to visit a friend in London for 17 days which were granted September 14, 2012.

The former lawmaker on January 17, 2013, traveled to the UK with his daughter but the latter did not leave the UK with her father remaining until January 6, 2017. In other words, she lived in the UK for over three years illegally.

As a result, Mr. Boakye is highly unlikely to be issued any further visas to visit the UK in the next ten years for his role in facilitating his daughter’s travel to the UK, including should he be re-elected to Parliament in a subsequent election, Mr. Benjamin’s letter to the speaker read in parts.

Admitting his daughter erred in an interview on the Morning Starr, Mr. Boakye said he accepts in good faith the punitive measures being taken against him by the commission, noting that when your son or daughter goes out and whatever he or she does and there is a credit to it you’ll take and in the same vein when it is the other way you have to take it.

African women, especially Ghanaians, should cease from using wigs, hair extensions, and other unnatural forms of hair styling, psychologist Dr. Carnita Groves has urged.

She raised red flags concerning the health implications of chemical products and the adoption of foreign lifestyles that do not promote Africanis and confidence among African women. For her, Africans are not born needing wigs and hair extensions and are not natural to the extent that we African women do it around the world.

The health professional highlighted physiological problems and other physical conditions like alopecia and fungus infections on the scalp among numerous health implications from using materials like weave-on and others.

Dr. Groves bemoaned the low self-esteem of African women which makes them shun natural hair and also blamed some men who put unnecessary pressure on ladies to look good by adopting such lifestyles.

She wonders why some Africans internalize colonialism and white supremacy while at the same time negating our Africanism and not enjoying the glorious wonderful hairstyles and textures that we are divinely endowed with.

The psychologist explained that there is a prevailing mentality which makes ladies believe that ‘I am prettier this way the closer I am too looking like a white woman the better off I am.

She added that such thoughts lead to chemicals being released to the brain that then keeps that attitude in mind making it so strong to break away from.

Dr. Groves revealed that African ladies need to embrace natural looks as beauty is not about how long or short one’s hair is.

I have seen bald women here in Ghana and the United States who are delightfully beautiful, so this is not about long hair but healthy natural hair, she added.

Dr. Groves revealed that there are so many ways of keeping one’s hair natural with home-made products and advised the public to seek more information through resources on the internet and YouTube videos that teach practical ways of keeping hair natural.

During the call-in segment, a woman charged the Ministry of Education to eliminate the practice of making female students, especially those in public schools, cut their hair.

She indicated that the practice makes the girls lose confidence and growing their hair after senior high school becomes difficult.

Instead, she wants authorities to expose girls in primary schools to healthy natural ways of maintaining their hair rather than enforcing mandatory haircuts.

Multiple awards winning Nigerian singer, Tiwa Savage, has said that the desire for glamor and appeal is the reason entertainers cannot stop being sexual in their performances.

She said this while addressing some pressing issues in the Nigerian music industry, According to her, entertainers cannot be stopped from adopting sexual scenes in their stage-craft but can be regulated through suitable guidelines provided by a competent body or authority.

She, however, disclosed that contemporary musicians were misunderstood in a similar way the late Afrobeat King, Fela’s dancers were misunderstood because of their sexual displays on stage.

Savage said: There is no way a movie and entertainment will not have sexual scenes. You cannot stop an artist from being sexual in entertainment. The only thing we can do as Africans is to provide guidelines.

When I performed initially in Nigeria, they screamed that it was too much; that it was too sexual. We are still fighting the same battle the Fela girls fought. Fela’s girls were misunderstood. What they did on stage was just entertainment.

What they do on stage doesn’t mean that they are loose off stage. People say Fela is godfather but people forget the women that added glamor to Fela’s show.

UK lawmakers are calling on the government to slip Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s wife of her British citizenship, for supporting her husband’s government during the country’s ongoing war.

The Liberal Democrats foreign affairs spokesman, MP Tom Brake, on Sunday accused Assad of using her international profile to defend a cruel regime.

(Foreign Secretary) Boris Johnson has urged other countries to do more about Syria, but the British government could say to Asma Al-Assad either stop using your position to defend brutal acts or be stripped of your citizenship, Brake said.

His remarks follow Johnson branding the Syrian president an arch-terrorist, in newspaper article calling on Syria ally Russia to end its support for Bashar al-Assad.

Brake’s comments echoed those of MP Nadhim Zahawi, from the ruling Conservative Party.

The time has come where we go after Assad in every which way, including people like Mrs. Assad, who is very much part of the propaganda machine that is committing war crimes, he was quoted in the newspaper as saying.

Once hailed as a progressive rights advocate, Assad has fallen from international grace during Syria’s ongoing war which has killed more than 320,000 people since erupting in 2011.

The 41-year-old, who is believed to hold joint British-Syrian nationality, has stood by her husband’s side in his rare public appearances, posing for selfies with supporters in photos posted to the presidency’s Instagram account.

The couple’s marriage was announced six months after he assumed the country’s leadership in July 2000. They had met at a party hosted by the British Syrian community in London.

Assad’s ongoing support for her husband allows Britain to deprive her of her UK citizenship, according to the Liberal Democrats, which served in an uneasy five-year coalition government with the Conservative Party until 2015.

If Asma continues defending the Assad regime’s murderous actions, the responsibility will be on the UK Government to deprive her of her citizenship or demonstrate that her actions are not seriously prejudicial to the vital interests of the United Kingdom, said Brake.

He is due to write to Home Secretary Amber Rudd outlining the view of the Liberal Democrats, which holds nine seats in the British parliament.

The home office would not comment on whether the government would take action against Assad, who previously worked as an analyst for Deutsche Bank and JP Morgan.

The Government takes its duty to protect the British public exceptionally seriously.
