[quote author=Goddex][size=16pt]Joe Igbokwe can keep bragging. In politics bragging is allowed but the last I checked . . . 1) PDP still controls 18 states while APC 16 2) The LP state of Ondo and APGA Anambra are in an informal alliance with PDP and will likely work for the PDP 3) Accord party too is in working alliance with PDP 4) I can bet, the Senate will never go the way of APC but I know APC may succeed in widening it's slim lead in the House of Reps 5) In summary, PDP still remains the party to beat Yea u got a nice statistics but you have forgotten the most relevant, which is population, out of 10 most populated state in the country APC has Nine states with PDP having only one |
I really love this, because I am not surprise that the G7 wil eventually merged with the APC. It is really good for this country, a strong and formidable opposition that will keep the ruling party on its feet. In its entirety all Nigerians(ofcourse except the bigots-few) are tired of this mess called GEF and his now ill-fated PDP. |

Actually bigotry and bigotism will never take us to anywhere as a country. The fact is that so far ,so bad. Buhari is the only Nigeria leader to be trusted because he was tested and has proven beyound reasonable doubts. We have people that can even do better than buhari but only God knows who!. Buhari, given his antecedent if given the chance can liberate this country and throw all these thieves we have as leaders to jail and return all our stolen wealth to the country for the benefit of all. |

President Goodluck Jonathan said on Friday in Shagamu, Ogun State, that federal, states and local governments must collaborate to deliver dividends of democracy to the people, irrespective of party affiliations. Jonathan made the remarks when he declared open the reconstruction and expansion works on the 127.6 km Lagos-Ibadan dual carriage way sections I and II. The N167 billion project, to be completed in 48 months, is being handled by Messrs Julius Berger Plc and Reynolds Construction Company (RCC) Ltd. Jonathan said basic infrastructure, particularly roads, whether, they belonged to the federal, states or local governments by classification, is meant for the use and benefit of the generality of all Nigerians. ``All of us belong to the Federal Republic of Nigeria and we are free to reside in any part of the country. ``My belief is that, whether a project is delivered by the Federal Government or the state government or local government, what Nigerians need is basic infrastructure. ``Therefore, good partnering by all the tiers of government, federal, states and local governments and good spirited individuals will make us deliver the dividends of democracy to our people. ``And I assure you that we will continue to work together," he said. The president said that the Lagos-Ibadan dual carriage way, was one of the busiest and most important roads in the country. Specifically, he said that with over 250,000 vehicles plying the road daily, ``it stands out as the busiest road in Africa’’. ``The road is an important economic artery that connects the nation's economic nerve centres. ``More than 50 per cent of the economic activities of this country revolve around Lagos and Ogun states, which jointly with Oyo State, host the infrastructure. ``The infrastructure is of great socio-economic importance, not only to Nigeria but also to the people of Africa," he said. Jonathan said that following the state of disrepair of the road, the recurrent fatal accident, unprecedented traffic jams and security breaches, government acted in good faith, by entering into partnership with a private investor to deliver the road. He said that after four years of evident non-performance by the private investor, Bi-Courtney Highway Services Limited, government, acting in the public interest, terminated the agreement. ``Today I am happy to inform you that we are ready to bequeath to Nigerians, a better and more durable road after 35 years when the first construction was made and commissioned in 1978. ``We are sure this will alleviate the hardship on millions of road users. ``This event reflects government's commitment to practically and relentlessly meet the yearnings of people and improve the national transport infrastructure.’’ The president charged the contractors to ensure timely completion of the project and appealed to road users to bear with the inconveniences the construction might cause. He also said that government had made adequate funding arrangement to see the project through to completion. Minister of Works Mike Onolememen in a welcome address, said that the Lagos-Ibadan expressway constructed between 1974 and 1978 was among the first dual carriageways in the country. He said the road is a major highway in the South-West geopolitical zone, which connects, Lagos, Ogun and Oyo states to other parts of the country. ``The road is a major artery that connects, Lagos, the economic nerve centre of the nation and most Nigerian sea ports, to other states of the federation. ``At the regional level, it is a section of the Trans-sahara Highway that links Lagos on the Atlantic Ocean to Algiers on the Mediterranean Sea. ``The road is, therefore, of great economic importance not only to Nigeria but the sub-region at large," Onolememen said Present at the event were Gov. Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun; his predecessor, Gbenga Daniel; the deputy governors of Lagos, Oyo, Osun and Ondo states, ministers, and traditional rulers NAN recalls that the Federal Government in November 2012 revoked the failed Lagos-Ibadan expressway concession contract awarded to Bi-Courtney in 2009. Onolememen, who announced the revocation, had explained that Bi-Courtney violated the contract terms, particularly, its failure to secure needed funds for the job. He had also announced that the road would be constructed by two construction firms, Julius Berger and RCC. Prior to Onolememen’s revocation announcement, Jonathan had during a Presidential media chat, last year, said that government was about to take a “definite” position on the failed road contract. ``The immediate construction of the highway is now underway and will be partly handled by Julius Berger and RCC. ``Due to the senseless carnage on this important expressway which is part of Arterial Route A1, the Federal Government has also decided to embark on the emergency reconstruction of the expressway. ``While Julius Berger would handle section 1: from Lagos to Shagamu interchange, RCC Nigeria Limited will be responsible for section II: from Shagamu to Ibadan," Onolememen had said then. NAN also recalls that the concession agreement with Bi-Courtney was for it to Build, Operate and Transfer the road. After completion, the company was to operate the expressway and its facilities for 25 years. Specifically, the agreement entitled the company to revenue recoup rights, stretching from charging food vendors to vehicular tolling and on parking lots. The Federal Judicial Service Commission (FJSC) has dismissed six judiciary workers accused of involvement in the leakage of an undelivered judgment of the Supreme Court in May. The affected staff are Mr Russell Ndenu, Mr Nathaniel Abraham, Mr Olayinka Abiodun, Mr Bada Kayode and Mr Festus Ilurimi of the Supreme Court, as well as Mr Stephen Izonebi of the Court of Appeal, Abuja Division. Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court, Mr. Sunday Olorundahunsi, said in a statement in Abuja yesterday that the FJSC considered their act as serious misconduct and therefore fired them. He said the workers were found through internal and Police investigation to have conspired among themselves and two outsiders to leak out the judgment before it was delivered on May 31, 2013. The undelivered judgment was leaked in the case of Anambra state politician Senator Alphonsus Uba Igbeke Vs Lady Margery Okadigbo and 3 others. The FJSC at its meeting held Tuesday approved the dismissal of the judiciary workers over their conduct. Olorundahunsi said their action ran contrary to Regulation 48 (1)(xi) of the Federal Judicial Service Commission Regulations, Regulation 49 and Regulation 60 (1)(i) and in violation of the Public Service Rule (PSR) Cap 3 section 4 (030401) and (030416). Meanwhile, the commission has requested the Minister of Justice and the Attorney General of the Federation to further investigate the motive behind the leakage and possibly take legal action against Senator Igbeke and Mr Collins Okechukwu for allegedly masterminding the leaked of the judgment. |
Jerry John Rawlings (born 22 June 1947)[1] is a former air force officer and the current African Union envoy to Somalia. Rawlings initially came to power in Ghana following a coup d'état in 1979 and, after initially handing power over to a civilian government, took back control of the country on the 31st December 1981, as the Chairman of the Provisional National Defence Council. He remained in power in this way until 1992, when he resigned from the Armed Forces, founded the National Democratic Congress and successfully became the first president of the Fourth Republic. He was re-elected in 1996 for a further four years.[2] Rawlings initiated his debut coup d'état on 15 May 1979, leading a group of military personnel in a coup attempt on General Fred Akuffo which resulted in him arrested, imprisoned and facing a death sentence. On June 4, soldiers sympathetic to his motivations broke him out of jail, and he led a revolt of both the military and civilians which overthrew General Akuffo and the Supreme Military Council, effectively leaving him in charge.[2] Rawlings and the soldiers around him formed the Armed Forces Revolutionary Council (AFRC) and conducted what it termed "a housecleaning exercise", whose aim was to purge Ghanaian society of all the corruption and social injustices that they perceived to be at the root of their coup d'état. [1] The AFRC organized an election and it was won by Hilla Limann of the People's National Party (PNP). On 31 December 1981 Rawlings and the AFRC overthrew Limann, citing economic mismanagement. Rawlings then installed the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) with himself as the Chairman. In 1992, Rawlings retired from the military and set up the National Democratic Congress (NDC),[2] legalized political parties and organized Presidential and Parliamentary elections, in response to demands for a more democratic process concerning the governing of the country. Rawlings and his party won with 58.3 percent of the vote, with outside observers declaring the voting to be "free and fair".[1] In 1996, Rawlings went on to win a second term as President. After two terms in office, barred by his constitution from standing in any election, Rawlings endorsed his vice-president John Atta Mills as presidential candidate in 2000. Background Jerry John Rawlings was born in Accra, Gold Coast, on 22 June 1947, to Victoria Agbotui (born in 1910 in Dzelukope near Keta in what is now the Volta Region of Ghana), and James Ramsey John, a chemist born in 1907 in Castle Douglas in South-West Scotland. Rawlings is married to Nana Konadu Agyeman. He has three daughters: Ezenator Rawlings, Yaa Asantewaa Rawlings, Amina Rawlings; and one son, Kimathi Rawlings. Military career This section needs additional citations for verification. Please help improve this article by adding citations to reliable sources. Unsourced material may be challenged and removed. (December 2012) In March 1968, Jerry John Rawlings traveled to Sekondi-Takoradi in Ghana to study as a pilot officer. He graduated in January 1969, and was commissioned a pilot officer, winning the coveted "Speed Bird Trophy" as the best cadet in flying and airmanship. He earned the rank of flight lieutenant in April 1978. On 28 May 1979, Rawlings, together with six other soldiers were arrested, by the Ghanaian Militia for a coup attempt on the government of General Fred Akuffo, and Rawlings appeared before a General Court Martial, charged with leading a squad of soldiers on 15 May 1979. While awaiting his execution, Rawlings was sprung from custody on 4 June 1979 by a group of soldiers.[citation needed] He led the insurgent that ousted the Supreme Military Council from office with Armed Forces Revolutionary Council (AFRC). On the night of 4 June, lives were lost in both the forces fighting against the military government and those fighting on the side of the insurgency. As one of his first acts in power, Rawlings signed the orders for the execution of a former military president of Ghana who was later executed: Ignatius Kutu Acheampong, and Air Vice-Marshal Yaw Boakye. Four other generals—Kotei, Joy Amedume, Roger Felli, and Utuka—were also put to death. Rawlings has never denied responsibility for this. The AFRC, under the Military Marshal of Rawlings, carried out, what Rawlings described as a much wider "house-cleaning exercise". Meanwhile, following a programme already set in motion before the 4 June insurgency. On 24 September 1979, the AFRC military allowed the governing of the People's National Party (PNP) under Hilla Limann. The killings of the Supreme Court justices (Cecilia Koranteng Addo, Frederick Sarkodie, and Kwadjo Agyei Agyepong), military officers Major Sam Acquah and Major Dasana Nantogmah and the killings and disappearance of over 300[3] other Ghanaians occurred in his time in Ghana's history. Limann's administration was cut short on 31 December 1981, when Rawlings deposed him in another coup. The Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC), composed of both civilian soldiers and mercenary soldiers, was established with Rawlings as the air marshal and field marshal. The PNDC, led by Marshal and Flight Lieutenant Jerry John Rawlings began the process of what Rawlings said to be a decentralisation. Post-military In Jerry John Rawlings' first official speech subsequent to the removal of Hilla Limann, he announced the creation of the National Commission on Democracy (NCD), which began decentralisation and dissemination. Opposition to the PNDC, with pressure from the United States through the CIA began demanding a return to multi-party democracy, although a referendum showed mixed feelings on this. The National Commission on Democracy was put into high gear to begin the process to return to multi-party elections. National Commission for Democracy (NCD) was empowered to hold debates and formulate some suggestions for a transition to multi-party democracy. Opposition groups complained that the NCD was too closely associated with the PNDC, the commission continued its work through 1991. In March of that year the NCD released a report recommending the election of an executive president, the establishment of a national assembly, and the creation of a prime minister post. The PNDC accepted the report, and the following year it was approved in a referendum. Political parties were legalised by Rawlings—-with the provision that none could use names that had been used before—and a timetable was set for presidential and parliamentary elections. When presidential elections were held in 1992, Rawlings stood as the candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the successor party to the PNDC. Although his opponents were given access to television and newspaper coverage, and limits to the freedom of the press had been slightly lifted, no single candidate could match him. Election returns on 3 November 1992 revealed that Rawlings had won 58.3 percent of the vote, for a landslide victory.[4] Almost immediately, the opposition parties claimed that the presidential election was not fair, and that widespread abuses had occurred. The leaders encouraged their followers to boycott subsequent Ghana parliamentary and presidential elections, with the result that NDC officials won 189 of 200 seats in the parliament. Answering questions about polling place irregularities, he said he will initiate a new voter registration program. Rawlings and the NDC again held onto the Ghana parliament in 1992 and 1996. Per his constitutional mandate, Rawlings' term of office ended in 2001; he retired in 2001, Rawlings was succeeded by John Agyekum Kufuor, his main rival and opponent in 1996. Kufuor succeeded in defeating Rawlings's vice-president John Atta Mills in 2000. In 2004, Mills conceded to Kufuor and Kufuor ran for another four years. |
The government of Bauchi State yesterday dis-closed that it had uncovered a plot by agents of destabilisation to cause anarchy in the state and discredit the governor Isa Yuguda-led government. It further stated that it had uncovered the masterminds of the plot and would swoop into action against them as soon as it gets complete details of the plot and the collaborators. This was made known in a statement issued in Lagos by Ishola Michael Adeyemi, Chief Press Secretary to the Bauchi State Governor. The statement said: “The Bauchi State Govern-ment has uncovered a plot by some misguided and anti-progress elements to plunge the state into a crisis, using agents of destruction within and outside the state to cause disharmony and disaffection among the people of the state towards discrediting and destabilizing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led Administration of the Executive Governor, His Excellency, Mallam (Dr.) Isa Yuguda. “It has also been discovered that the brains behind this evil plot against the government and good people of Bauchi State have recruited and engaged malleable newspaper columnists, hack-writers, propaganda merchants and rumour vendors to spread rumour, raise false alarm, and publish deliberate misinformation about the state and the Chief Executive with a view to imposing hate, fear and terror, thereby scaring citizens, residents, visitors and genuine investors from engaging in peaceful, productive and legitimate business in the state.” The government said it was still studying the details of the plot and disclosed that its investigations so far had revealed the involvement of ‘three wealthy, highly-placed and influential persons’. “These three arrowheads of the plot have held clandestine meetings in some capital cities within and outside the country, especially in the high-brow districts of Maitama and Asokoro in Abuja where no less than five meetings have taken place with some top politicians, opposition figures and media persons in attendance. None of the meetings in Abuja lasted less than four hours,” it added. culled from dailytrust newspaper |
Jerry rawlings.....for his singular revolutionary act in the present day working! Ghana |
TY Danjuma is one of the very few elder states men still with values that Nigerians are supposed to be proud of. Unfurtunately i was disappointed wt the views posted on this page. But i get to understand that poverty and joblessness brings alot of selflessness and enviness. But people with the right knowledge knows that among other many deeds, TY danjuma still remain our dear most successful General, who had the clearest opportunity to serve Nigeria but proved to the world that his role in the 1966 coup was not a selfish one but solely an act of a very rarely- found patriotism to the Nigerian state. |
