Politics / Re: "Human Rights Watch" Ask Obama To Make Buhari Endorse Gay Rights by Adzuana: 7:51pm On Jul 20, 2015 |
saintopus: Maybe you did. Nevertheless, something that is detrimental is detrimental. A society/community should address ALL issues not just the ones that are seen as "bigger" or "greater". Would you say government shouldn't address the issue of child marriage or desert encroachment or illegal immigrants simply because corruption & greed are bigger? Hope not |

saintopus: I like the phrase you used ("as much as he or she do not go against the social norms in the society" Glad you did. So do you believe or can you point to any evidence that OPEN DISPLAY of homosexuality or same sex marriage is the "social norm" in Nigeria?? What about Africa as a whole or the Middle East or Indonesia, Asia or Eastern Europe, Russia etc?? are homosexuality, same-sex marriage and trans genders the social norm or publicly accepted? Because of how powerful the Western media is, they want to paint the picture (to convince people like you) that it is not socially abnormal & shouldn't be restricted, whereas even in the America itself there were states that had banned it by public vote of state residents. Even in America MILLIONS don't want it and I'm talking from my experience living there With all due respect, In your attempt to be "diplomatic" or "fair" people like you end up leading nations and societies into deep wells of perversion I'm glad your type of mindset in regards to homosexuality is limited to online comments etc. May God never ever give us in Nigeria lawmakers or presidents who will use their mandates to LEGALLY usher in this degrading atrocity into our society. 989900: Actually according to Nigerian citizenship laws & the constitution, you are NOT a Nigerian citizen simply by being born in Nigeria. (You may verify for yourself) To be a citizen 1) one of your parents must be citizen belonging to a tribe indigenous to Nigeria as of Oct 1,1960 2)The President/government can grant you citizenship (naturalised citizen) but you must apply and renounce previous citizenship and you must have lived in Nigeria for at least15 years straight If you as a naturalised Nigerian citizen apply elsewhere for citizenship, your Nigerian citizen will be voided, revoked 3)If you are the wife (but the law doesn't mention husband) of a Nigerian citizen you can also apply, but there are requirements you meet The vast majority of foreigners who live here in Nigeria (excluding expatriates etc) are by constitutional LAW illegal immigrants, even their business are legally not allowed but the system is still lax for now, so that's what you get. |
Politics / Re: S’east, N’central Must Have Principal Officers, Dogara Insists by Adzuana: 12:38pm On Jul 11, 2015 |
AlPeter:Excellent question! The day is soon coming when a Nigerian citizen will be chosen based solely on their integrity, merit, work experience and ability to get the job done, not all this "he's igala, she's yoruba, i'm ishan, etc" This limiting system we have created, of making tribes and regions the number one factor in deciding issues that affect national progress will soon backfire and be thrown in the dustbin of history where it belongs. A nation that expects to reign on the global stage cannot succeed carrying this myopic mentality. It is only a matter a time...so we actively wait for this house of cards based on tribe and region to fall, because fall it shall. Then we can begin to build a Nigeria where unity, nationhood and brotherhood comes before Igbo, Yoruba, Tiv or Hausa 1 Like |

Politics / Re: Enlightenment On Senate And House Of Representative. by Adzuana: 7:51pm On Jun 27, 2015 |
The aim of House of Reps and Senate is to give additional "checks and balances" The intent of the founders of this system was to make sure that all legislation would be carefully considered, taking both the short and long-term effects into account. House of Rep members are elected by and represent smaller limited groups of citizens living in smaller geographically defined districts within each state. Whereas Senators, on the other hand, represent a larger, widergroup of voters of their state. When the House of Reps considers a bill or law, individual members tend to base their votes primarily on how the bill might impact the people of their own local district, while Senators are meant to consider how the bill would impact the entire nation as a whole. This is just as the Founders of this system intended. By setting the constitutionally-required minimum age for Senators higher than that of members of the House , the Founders hoped Senators would be more likely to consider the long-term effects of legislation and practice a more mature, thoughtful and deeply deliberative approach in their deliberations. That's why most Senators are more experienced in government. e.g former governors, ministers etc The idea is that the Senate is meant to be more cautious, cool minded and less likely to be tempted to vote rashly or according to the short-term passions of public opinion but look long term. For example, here in Nigeria the majority of the physical fighting, chaos, shouting aggressively, jumping of fence etc...has taken place in the House of Reps chambers not the Senate.....to show you the less self control and order In the US major bills are often debated and voted on by the House of Reps in a single day, while the Senate can take weeks to carefully deliberate on the same bill. Necessary checks and balance. Worth it in the long run I believe 1 Like |
