The Federal Commissioner of the Ogun State Office of the Public Complaints Commission (PCC), Mr. Morakinyo Akinleye, has caused significant damage to the property of a resident in Degun Estate, Laderin, Abeokuta.

The PCC, established in 1975, was created to address social injustice by government or private sector officials and to help reduce the burden of cases in the court of law through alternative dispute resolution, aiming to resolve various disputes among the people of the state.
It comes as a surprise that Akinleye, the National Commissioner of the PCC and also the chairman of Degun Estate, prevented a resident from re-roofing her apartment, chased away workers after the roof was removed, and allowed rain to destroy her property.

The victim, Mrs. Olayinka, rents the apartment from a landlord who has since relocated abroad.

Reports from PidomNigeria reveal that in December 2024, Olayinka informed her landlord about severe roof leakage in her apartment. Unfortunately, the landlord was unable to address the issue at that time due to financial constraints.
On Monday, March 10, around 6 AM, the landlord sent workers to fix the roof leakage while Olayinka was preparing for work.

The workers began by removing the old roofing sheets to carry out the repairs as she left for work, expecting the job to be completed by the time she returned. However, when she contacted the workers around 2 PM to check on the progress, she was shocked to learn that Morakinyo Akinleye, the chairman of Degun Estate, had stopped the contractors from reinstalling the roof.

Despite multiple pleas from the workers, Akinleye refused to allow them to continue the job. He reportedly ordered the estate security to forcibly remove the contractors from the estate, leaving the entire building exposed.

Tragically, before Olayinka could reach her landlord, who is currently overseas, heavy rainfall had caused extensive damage to her belongings.
Keeploss reports that in an attempt to seek redress, Olayinka shared video evidence of her damaged property in the estate’s WhatsApp group to alert the chairman and other residents. Shockingly, instead of addressing the issue, she was removed from the group, and her messages were deleted.

Akinleye, however, maintained that the landlord did not seek his permission before attempting to re-roof the house, and as such, the work could not proceed.

The estate committee has, however, tendered an apology to Olayinka. This was made known in a statement signed by the general secretary, Mr Adewale Gbadebo.

He said: “First and foremost, on behalf of the Executive Committee of our dear and enviable estate, I wish to sincerely tender our unreserved apology for the lost and pain the owner of the affected apartment had to go through in the process of getting her roof repaired.
However, it is important to mention that whatever happens was not in anyway intentional nor deliberate.

“In the past, the exco had been involved in argument among the residents of a section of the high rise building where someone was trying to install solar panels on the roof and mistakenly affected the side of a fellow resident. It took the intervention of the exco to settle the argument that erupted thereafter.

“It is on this note that it was resolved that before any repair or installation is carried out within the estate, especially on the roof of the high rise building, all other residents in that block and the exco should be informed and adequately carried along to prevent any unnecessary argument that may emanate thereafter.

“In the case of the repair in question, the allottee and his tenant failed to informed the exco on the repair before the commencement of the work hence, when the report got the Chairman that the roof had been removed, in his wisdom to maintain sanctity in the estate, he directed that the repair be put on hold till the owner do the needful which was expected to be sorted same day.

“It was however regrettable and unfortunate that while the exco was holding an emergency meeting same day on the issue, rain fell unexpectedly.
Consequently, the apartment was immediately given a go ahead to carry out the repair without further delay in the spirit of fairness.

“The havoc done to the apartment by the rain is highly regretted. Once again, on behalf of the executive committee of our dear estate, I wish to tender our unreserved apology to the occupant of the affected apartment.”

Keeploss gathered that the committee’s resolution from last night’s meeting was to ask Olayinka what she wanted from them and how they could assist.

Please I will try to be brief as possible as i can.
I work with a firm that sells construction equipment, and head the logistics and warehouse department. I have this junior colleague that has been with the company for 8years(long before i joined cos i have only been there for 2+ years), he is experienced and good at his job.
But yesterday i caught this guy trying to steal two pieces of 70ah batteries, it really broke my heart because he can not even sell this things for up to 100k. I have tried everything in my capacity to make sure those working under my dept enjoy every benefits that are due to them; from hazard allowance, overtime, and so on. I sign all this allowance without asking questions even when sometimes some of them are questionable. I was doing all this so that nobody has any reason to steal and they have small change to augment their salary.
Personally i hate theft and frown at it and they all know it cos i keep preaching against this at every meeting, and if i escalate this to the management at the HQ in Lagos, he might be sack without benefits after 8 long years and he is a family man.

Though I have scold him and told him he would hear from me by Monday morning, the truth is given the situation I don't know what to do with this guy.

I am really confuse cos i don't even know how long he has been doing this shit.

Pls, don’t report him to the management. Calm down. Take your time to see what is really going on. It is possible that he is not the only one stealing right under your nose. I’m writing from experience. My brother got a job from a big firm that supplies groceries for some companies in Nigeria. After 3 weeks on the job , he discovered that his junior colleague was supplying expired goods to these big customers and instead of him to use street orientation to tackle the matter, my brother being a strict Christian decided to write a memo to the HQ as regards to the matter. He was assassinated two days after , we buried him last month. It’s so painful, he wouldn’t have died if he had confided him rather than telling my sister alone. I got to know about the story of the junior colleague after he was killed. It’s so painful. Chill bro, don’t be in a haste to report him. Take your time before you decide on what to do. Your life is important, if anything happens , your company will not close down because of your absence.
