chosen04: So its grammatically right to use inferior for a position one occupies? Pls can you kindly tell me one inferior post occupied by some one that you know of? Is the position of a vice president superior to that of the president? Is it equal or inferior? Also, is it right to use runned as it used in this sentence 'Thats why govt is runned by 2 persons . . ? |
Politics › Re: Dame Patience Jonathan And Her Poor Communication Skills by agabaI23(m): 6:19pm On Aug 04, 2010 |
Grammatically, superior and inferior go hand in hand. But it is a grammatical suicide to say 'runned' and it is worse when one is casting aspersion. |

Apart from few hiccups, his replies were not that murderous if the transcriber did justice to the interview though. @Chosen04
I did not see 'Thats why govt is runned by 2 persons'. . . in the interview. Did you make the 'runned' mistake yourself? |

VALIDATOR: if america was so bent on speaking and writing english the exact way england does there will be no american english today.maybe also america would not have been as great. It's hi time we learned to focus on what gets the job done rather that sticking to some colonial era pattern of thinking.
the meaning of "it is not easy to carry second" is understood by virtually every nigerian including the poster.that is good communication. Awww! Thank you my bro/sis from another mother |

hercules07: @David,
Small correction French is also spoken in Canada, please continue to lecture the agaba guy on why a public figure should be able to articulate herself properly. My mum did not attend Secondary school but her spoken English is probably better than mine. Are you talking about articulation or spoken English? One can speak impeccable English grammar-wise but cannot articulate his point. You made two sentences and one was supposed to support the other but both were saying different things? Articulation is a component of communication skills which is very different from your ability to blow grammar. |

obiem: @Nchara, agreed my english is second rate but is definitely better than the Dame's
I think i'm wrong classifying her problem as 'poor communication skill' , it's isn't it is simply ' inability to speak the language' What's that? |

mikeansy: But lets be fair to the ladies. They did not sign up to be first ladies, theyy did not get elected nor did they apply to be first ladies. They only got married to a man so many years ago and their journey in life as a wife brought them to where they are.
I will rather question Jonathan's communication skills because he chose to be Nigerian leader. His wife only got there by default. Suscribing partially |

davidylan: you will notice it has both SPEAKING and LISTENING modules (the most important portions of the test). Indians dont speak English that well . . . but they do take AND PASS these exams . . . its not how fluent you are in the language that counts but a demonstrated ability to understand the way English is spoken and be understood in countries where English is the primary mode of communication. Son You have answered well. So why should Nigerians whose official language is English be subjected to the latter assuming TOEFL is peculiar to America? The international community should have known better? Abeg make the falconets carry second jare!!!!!!!!!! Nothing do the dame Our official language is broken !

davidylan: 1. The core of the TOEFL exam are the SPOKEN and WRITTEN portions.
2. You are given the test to determine your ability to UNDERSTAND the American intonation and the subtle differences in their uses of the language.
3. The test is NOT to determine whether you can speak English IN Nigeria or anywhere else. And IELTS? |

And by the way, which English are we talking about here? Is it the one a Nigerian will speak and an average foreigner will ask him to repeat himself? Keep deceiving yourselves that you speak English as national language.
Why do you have to sit for TOEFl and IELTS if English is your national language and you are native speakers? |
Politics › Re: Dame Patience Jonathan And Her Poor Communication Skills by agabaI23(m): 2:09am On Aug 04, 2010 |
Eziachi: Continue making excuses! What is another man's language? English is the only language of education and official business in Nigeria from the day she was born till now.
And she is a public figure, that was expected to speak in public, an aclaimed university graduate bt speaks so poorly in your behalf and you wanted to be spared? She did not blunder in Ijaw language. Let her be. davidylan: then what is the point of you commenting on it? I commented on the issue surrounding the interview not on the interview my friend! |

David, I am not making anything up. See my first post on this thread and then check the second. I did not watch the said interview and so I cannot comment on her communication skills. I was up in arms when the Original poster was referring to lack of English skills as lack of communication skills. Someone can be thrown off balance if the language of communication is not solid in his mouth. I have seen scholars struggle to make their points in a field they are experts in just because of language barrier. Spare the dame please |
