There's so much excitement in the air because we are entering a new year. Making new year resolutions is a common mark of this season: setting goals on how to achieve better finances, better grades, better social network, incresed job effectiveness, achieving career progress e.t.c. Despite all our numerous goals, more often than not, a lot of persons don't make goals towards having a better health. Unfortunately, our health is a major aspect of our but it's usually ignored as we forget that poor health or disease cn gulp down all the savings we have gathered throughout the entire year.

Sickle cell disease is a genetic condition that is still very popular in Nigeria despite being a preventable disease. It occurs due to certain genotypic combination like an "AS" +another "AS" or "AS"+"AC". Genotype testing is readily available and quite simple and affordable but we still see a lot of people still giving birth to children with sickle cell disease.

Cervical is 2nd leading cancer in women globally after breast cancer despite being a preventable disease. A lot of women still suffer terrible fate from the hands of this disease even though a lot of progress has been made in its prevention. Human papillomavirus is a major factor that has been found in more than 90% of cases and vaccines have been developed against this virus. Pregnancy is a physiological state and not a disease condition hence every woman who gets pregnant should have their babies delivered without any issue. However this is usually not the case as complications could arise and one of such complications is PREECLAMPSIA which could be a life threatening one that could claim the lives of both the mother and fetus.
It's important to note that preeclampsia despite being a serious condition is preventable and it's sad that PREECLAMPSIA is still claiming the lives of many African women as it's one of the 5 leading cause of maternal deaths in Nigeria and Sub-Saharan Africa .
