Sports betting online or in-shops now proliferates every corner of our dear nation, Nigeria. Based on a research by Aza.ng Hub, the government makes a lot of money from the businesses, and the betting companies are living large, multiplying in numbers daily. Betting/gambling is legalized in Nigeria. Gambling in form of sports betting is now like a plague in our land because of what it truly costs us all. To a gambler and any other average citizen, all they feel gambling costs is the money. Yes, gamblers lose a lot of money. But is that all it costs? I'll shock you. This message goes to all Nigerians, young or old: #quitgambling #sportsbetting #financialintelligence #financialliteracy See What Young Nigerians Truly Lose While Betting, Gambling 1. Money, a whole lot of it Understandably so, young Nigerians lose a lot of money while gambling especially online football betting. There is no easy way to state the statistics but it should be in billions every single day. To understand this, consider the balances of these betting companies in Nigerian banks. The account balances of the likes of KC Gaming of Bet9ja, Sportybet company, 1xbet and all of them. If you have a banker friend, ask his opinion confidentially, you'd be alarmed. And to make matters worse, these billions in these accounts come in trickles of your bet slip amounts. Another issue is that most young bettors don't keep track of their spending. They only remember when they win and/or cash out. Little do they realize they have most certainly lost more than times ten of what they called winning. This is a huge part. Lets leave it like this for now. Gamblers lose a huge lot of money. 2. Time, valuable time o As if losing a load of money is not enough, valuable time is lost by sports bettors and gamblers. Lets focus on the rampant online and offline sports betting in Nigeria. betting shops proliferate every street and its usually always crowded with young Nigerians wasting valuable time competing to lose their means of survival, to lose their sweat and hard-earned money. The gambling thing as I found out is a mentally tasking exercise and this takes lots of time. This is why many gamblers have relationship problems as they do not spend time with their families and loved ones. Their works also struggle as well as career because their time is eaten deep into. From my findings, chronic bettors visit their betting app every opportunity they have, except they run out of cash. In the toilet, in transit, driving, everywhere. They rarely have time to face real life. This is a great loss. 3. Brain, lots of mental ability As stated earlier, gambling and sports betting require load of mental job. Analysis, comparison, historical check, calculations, worry, probabilities and so much, the bettors get weighed down mentally with fatigue because they end up straining their brain. And when they do lose, which 99% do, the mental pressure becomes larger. Meanwhile, imagine what that amount of mental abilities could have been applied to: learning, business, solving problems, helping others and many more. In fact, not only do the gamblers lose here, the entire nation is losing. How are we so sure that our next Nigerian Bill Gates is not wasting away on his phone dying over sporty!!! Very worrisome. 4. Future, career loss When someone loses 1 to 3 above, how can he have a sound future? I see many businesses struggling because the owner is a chronic gambler. I see many students drop out because of betting problems. I saw a news recently about a 16-year old begging #Sportybet to return his tuition he just lost on their platform. Is that not worrisome? I see many young people on the street who do nothing else other than sports betting. When i took time to interview some, they do this because its like the ONLY HOPE because they don't see much opportunities on the street. Imagine how much the nation could gain if these bright wasting brains could be put to use. Right use. 5. Life, good life When someone loses 1 to 4 above, what's left? These will follow: loss of self-esteem, loss of means of sustenance and survival, loss of relationships and families, loss of concentration on normal life activities, loss of peace of mind, loss of spirituality, loss of focus, loss of rest of mind, wow, this is loss of EVERYTHING! Some end up attempting unspeakable things to end their own lives. But that should not be. There is actual help available. ARE YOU HOPELESS? Do you feel you're losing it all? There is hope. You can still win this battle. It is a battle you're fighting against this evil spirit. You can win, with a little help. You are struggling because you have not got the right help. This is not your fault, so, just reach out for help. Join the #StopGambling group here: groups/select and receive updates on this help. Help is coming your way = NOW!
