All the while, we have had great leaders that have led Nigeria since after independence till the present Administration. They may have had good intentions for the nation, for none will seek for the exalted position of a President without good intention for the nation. But, with all their good intentions; none has been able to deliver Nigeria from poor governance. What will usher Nigeria into the type of country all has been yearning for is the kind of personality that occupies the presidential seat. It is no secret that Nigeria has all the resources that can make it the best country anyone can think of. Some of these resources include: Great human resources – I consider Nigerians best in the world in terms of quality. Natural resources – We have them in commercial quantities – Oil & Gas, limestone, marble, good sunlight, fresh water, good soil, gem, gold, iron ore, etc. Good climate – We are not prone to major natural disasters. Leadership of every nation is responsible for the generation of enough wealth that will be equitably distributed among the citizens of that nation. And, it is the sole responsibility of the head of that leadership to ensure good governance during his or her tenure. In life generally, there are people that have the ‘grace’ for creating and sustaining wealth; and I am not forgetting that there are also ‘graces’ for other things. When someone who does not have this ‘grace’ for creating and sustaining wealth is the head of leadership of any nation; there may be challenging times for the economy of that nation as all the resources will not be well harnessed. That leader without the ‘grace’ for creating and sustaining wealth may know what to do; but, will not be able to do it or achieve a desired result. When a wealth creator and sustainer is in charge of the affairs of any nation, that nation will surely be harnessing its resources for the benefit of the citizens. This wealth creator and sustainer kind of a leader will see opportunities in all the sectors of the economy and ensures that his or her team members take advantage of those opportunities for wealth creation and distribution. He or she has ‘natural’ wisdom for good leadership and assures that the majority of the citizens of that nation are happy. And, when more wealth is being created in all sectors of the economy; wealth will begin to go round for the betterment of all in terms of good health care delivery, employment opportunities, quality education, good roads, security of lives and properties, etc. Which of the presidential candidates for Nigerian 2019 elections do you think that fit into this position? https://www.goodgovernance.com.ng/nigeria-needs-a-wealth-creator-and-sustainer-as-a-president/ |
It is an open secret that the creation of Nigeria by the British Government was mainly for their interest. But be it as it may, something will always make something to happen; and I think, that the so-called creation could have become the best thing that happened to the entire populace that made up Nigeria if we had done the right things from the onset. Each of the regions that made up Nigeria is blessed with resources that can make them great nations. But coming together as an entity has the potential of making Nigeria far greater than each of the regions as separate nations combined together. The key challenge was that the federating units did not plan together before the amalgamation to define what to expect from the marriage. And, for the federating units to still remain together, despite all that had happened or that is still happening; means that we can actually as Nigerians be enjoying this nation called Nigeria if those saddled with the responsibility of running the affairs of Nigeria will retrieve their steps and start laying a solid foundation for a prosperous nation that the citizens will be proud of. I think Nigerian leaders especially the legislatures should enact laws that will strengthen Nigeria as a nation while putting its diversities into consideration. For instance, each federating units should be allowed to harness whatever resources God has blessed them with and pay tax to the central government. I believe this arrangement may deliver more resources to the Federal Government… And there are a whole lot of diverse demands from the federating units that the National Assembly has to consider and selflessly address them. There should be accountability on the implementation of budgets by the executive. Every amount spent by the executives should be accounted for in full. The welfare of the people should be paramount in the budget process. The Judiciary should be fair to all. The citizens should begin to pay accurate taxes, dues, licenses, etc without being forced by the government to do so. And, the citizens should be able to determine who their leaders should be. These are just my thoughts; go ahead and contribute. https://www.goodgovernance.com.ng/let-us-begin-to-lay-a-solid-foundation-for-a-prosperous-nigeria/ |
New minimum wage in Nigeria: Simple ways of truly resolving the challenges of setting new minimum wage Considering the economic realities in Nigeria, all the parties involved in the current new minimum wage faceoff are right. Labour is right when the pegged the minimum wage at N30,000.00 as that will not be enough to take care of an average family in Nigeria. And, those saying that they will not be able to pay the N30, 000.00 are equally right considering that they’ve not been able to easily pay the current minimum wage of N18, 000.00. We have to understand why we are here in the first place, and that will help us to know how to get out from this ugly situation if we want to. First of all I think if we are having proper planning at all levels of government, it will give us a better picture of what to expect from our actions or inactions. Most of the states depend mainly on federal allocations for salary payment as well as to execute other capital projects. Apart from the ghost workers syndrome, some of the employees are just working in the public sector because their people are in power not because they have jobs they are doing that are positively contributing to the economy. Also, the nation is depending mainly on petroleum and other sectors are not being harnessed properly. The infrastructures to power small businesses are in short supply and in return most businesses do not willingly pay taxes to the government and the list of the reasons why we at this sorry state is endless. The simple ways to truly begin resolving the issue of minimum wage that will not be disrupting the Nigerian economy again include but not limited to these suggestions. 1. Setting of minimum wage should be based on prevalent economic realities 2. State governments should consider generating revenue internally 3. Recruitments into the public sector should be based on required need of manpower not just for settlements 4. The Government should consider lowering the salaries and allowances of the Executives, Legislators and others with outrageous pay cheques to reasonable amounts. 5. Each state should determine what they can pay base on their productivity 6. Government should have the political will of making it possible for each state to control their resources and pay tax to the federal government. Kindly keep your contributions coming. https://www.goodgovernance.com.ng/new-minimum-wage-in-nigeria-simple-ways-of-truly-resolving-the-challenges-of-setting-new-minimum-wage/ |

First of all consider your location - it's key. Is your location where there a lot of poor or rich people? Where you are located will help you know the kind of customers to expect and how to set up your saloon as well as in fixing your price. Always treat your customers as kings - if possible have their list and go the extramile of knowing them beyond just coming to your saloon. and lot's more, |
